Well, I ordered The Standard size, which ended up being a mistake. Don't make the same, and go for at least The Signature. The pricing doesn't make sense otherwise.
2 1/2-scoops = $7.15 = $3.58 per. "The Standard"
3 1/2-scoops = $7.95 = $2.65 per (marginal cost is 80¢). "The Signature"
4 1/2 scoops = $9.25 = $2.31 per (marginal cost is $1.30). "The Study"
Kind of reminds me of movie theatre concessions, where a small popcorn is (for e.g.) $9, a medium is $14, and a large is $15. The medium does exist in that it can be ordered, but in reality this structure is made to nudge you towards a small or a large. Here, it seems the pricing is made to nudge you towards "The Signature."
Here, I suspect this is part of it, as well as a larger portion of The Standard is overhead/fixed costs vs. food costs (likely why an extra half scoop is not $3.58.
Where it comes to the Ice Creams themselves, they are true to the name: Splendid! I was able to try, and subsequently ordered some seasonal options. These were all creamy, savory, and had scrumptious, prominent flavors other than just sweetness. The service is very friendly, and if happy to let you sample flavors before you buy.
The vibe inside is light and clean. There is also ample seating, and I've not encountered a time when I wanted to sit but couldn't, but please take this with a grain of salt, as I've only visited in fall and winter, not on summer days (especially during the weekend or evening).
Yet, what cost Jeni's a star is the price, namely the value. Yes, I will 100% admit that their ice creams are fantastic. At the same time, this comes at a very high price: 1 1/2 relatively small scoops for almost $8 feels excessive, and more like a luxury, as opposed to a place one could frequent on summer evenings.
