The One Dish to Eat in Seoul, South Korea

"Another must-try is the delightful galmaegisal at no-frills Mapo Jeong Daepo in Mapo-gu. Here, pork is sizzled over charcoal with a ring of scrambled egg encircling it. The rendered fat drips into the basin with the egg, transforming it into a porky-delicious omelet."

Went twice whilst in trip to Korea. 1st time was with a korean bbq tour and our guide Jeff took us there. Was so good we decided to go back on our last dinner in korea. Family run by 3 sisters, amazing meat which is cooked over charcoal to give an awesome smokiness. Definitely the place to go for authentic korean bbq and will be back there whenever in seoul.

Amazing service and food. It is our go to spot for bbq every time we come to Seoul. The owner/family member speaks English so she gave us tips on how to eat the dishes and ordering the food was super easy. After the egg is poured in the pan, add a little bit of scallions and kimchi. Once the meat is cooked, you can place it near the outside of the pan where the egg was so it doesn’t get burnt but it still keeps it warm. It is a charcoal grill so you can’t lower the temperature. They accept credit card and has an English menu.

Really great experience on Korean barbecue. Pork rib is the best - tender and nice. This is the last to go as they need to change to a bigger hot plate. I love they pour the egg liquid at the side (see photo). You can add kimchi, garlic on it and wait for the egg to be cooked. The soup is nice and not salty. Expect the place to be smoky because it is a barbecue place !

Loved everything about it! Juicy thick cuts of meat, all the sauces. Everything very fresh and clean.

Very popular Korean bbq place, since Anthony Bourdain ate here as well, but it’s popular around locals too. The food is delicious, the whole bbq experience is great!

To be fair, this was our first Korean barbecue restaurant. So we can't compare it with others. But, the food was delicious and the service was very helpful. The server realized we spoke English and provided an English menu and coached us on cooking our food. Plus they took credit cards. All of that earns them full credit in our book!

I used to visit this restaurant very often, but i don’t think i will visit here anymore… :( the meat taste was not good that I couldn’t even finish half… the side dish are little pricy too.

We came here twice during our very short trip in Seoul. Haven’t tried enough of its kind to say this place is the best place for Korean barbecue in Seoul, but it’s certainly good. Simple menu, offers three types of pork ranging from 170g to 250g. Unlimited refill of egg, scallions, and kimchi. Charcoal grill. Pairing with a bowl of Korean Magoli is a must. Packed with locals around 7-9pm. Came at 11pm and it’s cool and comfy. Closes at 1am.
