Dig in to Barbecue, Fish and Chips, and Chili at These Black-Owned Restaurants in the DMV | Eater

"The Jerk@Nite owners started serving Caribbean food out of their dorm room while they were students at Howard University, and now operate two D.C. area locations (in Langdon Park and H Street), along with a food truck. Follow their social media for updates on where the truck will be next. Be sure to check out the jerk chicken and lamb chops, oxtail tacos, and beef patties." - Julekha Dash

I believe I saw the jerk chicken tacos in an Instagram post and saved it to my D.C. Yelp list, and I’m glad I did!! The tacos were worth the wait coming from Houston! The flour shells were soft and crispy, the chicken was well seasoned and juicy, and the peppers/onions rounded the flavor out nicely. The cabbage was bomb, wasn’t expecting much it was a pleasant surprise. The beef patty was average but solid. 9/10 overall. The inside of the restaurant was small but did have places for you to dine-in. Service didn’t take a long time considering the chicken was cooked fresh, but I also went after the lunch rush around 2 pm. If it was during busy hours I’d recommending placing a pick up order. Street parking is also extremely difficult to find and there isn’t a parking lot.

I came to this restaurant based on a reel review I saw on Instagram. When we arrived around 3:30pm on a Friday, we were told they didn't have most of the menu. Then we were offered entrees with double cabbage since there was no rice and peas. We were told it would take 10 minutes for the rice and peas, so we decided to wait. We ended up waiting about 25 minutes. The jerk chicken was about $16 (+tax), and the curry chicken was $23 (+tax). The size of the jerk chicken plate was rather small for the price, but it tasted pretty good. The curry chicken had a nice taste, but the jerk chicken seemed more flavorful. The vegetables that were placed on top did not seem cooked. Additionally, we asked for double rice and peas on both plates (no cabbage), but over half of my plate was cabbage. I don't care for cabbage in general, but because I waited almost 30 minutes for the rice and peas, it added insult to injury. The decor of the restaurant is nice, but sitting by windows during the day would be recommended since there is no window pane to prevent the flies that migrate there from entering. Citronella may help.

This was a surprising twist on Jamaican dining. The artistic flair was savory…Every bite was an explosion of flavors and spice. The portions were family style and the service was impeccable… we left no crumbs… We can wait for our next dining experience…Highly recommend.

I’ve been going here for years. Over the last year I would honestly say the times I’ve been it’s just gotten worse. But the last visit I had will be my last visit. It really sucks that this location isn’t what it used to be. It’s nice that y’all have grown but it seems that this place gets worse everytime another location opens. Which is extremely sad because DC is y’all original supporters! The prices have gone up. An the portions have gone down. But now it’s turned into the typical gamble of “Will it be good today?” Paying almost $20 for a platter of sides (Meatless Montego) is a bit of stretch. But I did it. Because I USED TO love the food here. But it’s not worth the gamble anymore. Sooo glad I didn’t go with my original order ($33 for pasta and ‘Rasta Bread’ that looks like plain old white bread crumbled in foil)! Seems the difference is probably the cooks. The Spanish women I’m sure are lovely but they seemed genuinely overwhelmed trying to keep up with the pace. And the confusion is coming out in the damn food! They rush to just throw anything together and give it to the cashiers. Also the cashiers were bickering loudly due to the busy atmosphere as well. Literally fussing with no care in front of the customers. I was going to change my former 5 star review to 1. But gave two. Because maybe you might catch them on a “ok” day…. Shared my order. The rice and Mac were luke warm. The cabbage was raw. Literally was crunchy like coleslaw. And honestly it was not even flavorful. Had to add salt and pepper. I asked for a resolution and was told they have to finish investigating. I am not sure how much more investigation is needed than the picture of the unappealing food in the photo. But they definitely lost a longtime customer!

So I’m used to Hst location , torch eats. So i thought to try the Queens Chapel location and it missed. The cabbage was a 5/10 , and the white rice was not cooked all the way. The service was nice and the people were nice but Hst location is way better in my opinion. The only thing is the oxtail being delicious. Presentation looks 10/10 but the flavors are missing

I saw this place on social media and decided to visit since I was in the area. I paid with cash but they had no change (coins) to give me in return per cashier. That's not good. Parking in the area not so great either. Everyone's palate for food is different. Rice wasnt bad but it taste like it had a sweetness to it. The Jerk chicken had no spice to it for it to be jerk. The Mac n cheese had a different taste then what I'm use to and I didn't really like it. Rice-7/10 Jerk Chicken 6/10 Mac n Cheese 3/10

***My response to business reply*** #1 Other customers got their food in 10-15 minutes. When I ordered something that takes 30 minutes, the staff should have made me aware before taking my money. #2 The staff told me to wait inside when I asked them. They called numbers inside (next to the loud speaker )so anyone outside wouldn’t have heard their number. #3 Please take constructive criticism instead of putting the blame on the customer. ***************** I have been wanting to try this place for the longest and it didn’t live up to the hype. The tiny takeout area has a large speaker on the wall just feet from where you place and pick up your order. They had the music up very LOUD! It created confusion for me and other customers because it’s hard to communicate with staff. I ordered the jerk salmon tacos and waited 30 minutes, on a Wednesday! I watched several people walk in, order and leave while I waited. I kept thinking they called my number and I missed it because of the loud music, but no. It’s so awkward to wait with no seats and nowhere to get out of the way of new customers coming in. I was thinking about leaving and disputing the charge with my credit card company and she finally called my number. I was so stressed out by the time I finally got my food! Good tacos, but not worth headache. I might order through GrubHub but I’ll never go again.

Worse experience yet. Food cold. Chicken wasn't cooked long enough. Ordered this same meal last month and chicken was perfect. This time i ordered today through uber eats chicken was cold and not cooked long enough. I'm disgusted called twice and they sent my call to voicemail. Would not return . Mac wasn't even seasoned like usual.
