The Red Boat Restaurant Opens With Asian Fusion Menu on H Street NE | Eater DC

"On U Street NW, Peking Express appears to be transforming into a Jamaican restaurant called U & Jerk; Popville shared photos of new signage and a menu written in marker advertising $7 lunch specials on jerk chicken and large plates or curry goat or oxtails for $15." - Gabe Hiatt

I had an amazing experience at Jerk House! The food was absolutely delicious from start to finish. I ordered the Rasta Pasta with shrimp—top tier flavor and perfectly cooked shrimp. The whole red snapper escovitch was packed with flavor, and the pickled peppers gave it that authentic kick I was hoping for. What really stood out to me was the veggie patties. They came with jerk sauce automatically—and let me just say, that made my day! No other Jamaican spot I’ve been to does that unless you ask (and even then, they try to charge extra). Jerk House gets it right. Great food, great portions, and great service. I’ll definitely be back!

My husband and I were craving something truly satisfying, so we decided to visit Jerk House—and what an incredible choice it turned out to be! From the moment we walked in, the gentleman at the front greeted us with warmth and was wonderfully informative, setting the tone for a fantastic dining experience. We ordered the beef patties, oxtail, and jerk shrimp, along with the cucumber ginger juice, and WOW—every bite was an explosion of rich, bold flavors. The seasoning was spot-on, creating dishes that were nothing short of perfection. Beyond the food, the atmosphere was welcoming and inviting, making us feel right at home. Jerk House has truly mastered the art of delivering an exceptional experience through both service and taste. Highly recommend!

The customer service was okay, there were stares before a proper greeting was given. The menu advertise two different types of chicken wings plates: Jerk wings with sides $20 or regular chicken with choice of sauce $14. Requested the regular wings with Mambo sauce. But instead the order had jerk wings drenched in Mambo sauce. The jerk was too spicy and too sauce, that is wasn’t enjoyable to preferred liking or diet. The other members of my party stated the meats were too spicy hot. We are native Jamaicans.patties were too greasy and blend in taste. Not everyone wants to have their stomach on fire or upset. The was a nice ambience to sit outside while eating. The surrounding was decent and located in a accessible spot. The resturant offers a large variety of beer to purchase, especially Dragon Stout which is a favorite.

First, shout out to the owner Nick! His hospitality and that of the entire staff made the visit worth the while. Not pictured but highly recommended: Jerk chicken with rice and peas, steamed cabbage, and topped with oxtail gravy. Festival Sorrel (freshly made and bottled) When I say that I could not get enough of the food and that this place is authentic! IT IS! To know Caribbean food, be a born Caribbean woman, and to have been raised in Brooklyn, NY…I’m very picky about anything labeled Caribbean because my household cooks it and I grew up around it. This place did not miss one bit on the seasoning, fresh spices/ herbs, and the flavor presented in every bit. The jerk chicken had a nice kick to it and the rice and peas were divine! The festival was only missing a bowl of cornmeal porridge lol but it was so good! Overall, I found my new spot and as soon as their rooftop opens and they start selling breakfast, looks like I will be back!

I reached out to Jerk House the night before my wife's birthday, hoping to pull off a last-minute surprise. To my amazement, Nick, the owner, personally called me at 9pm to get the details. I told him it was a surprise for my Jamaican wife and asked if he could put together a few of their best dishes. Not only did he deliver, but he went above and beyond. From the moment we walked in, the staff treated us like VIPs. They laid down mats for us, let us order from the menu, and even brought out complimentary food. My wife was blown away, it was hands down the best surprise birthday she’s ever had. Now the food… WOW. Absolutely delicious. Every bite was packed with authentic flavor and love. This place is the real deal. We’ve officially found our go-to Jamaican spot. Thank you, Nick and the entire Jerk House team, for making the night unforgettable!

Visited 07/04/24 Ordered the jerk salmon. FOOD: 4/5. The jerk salmon tasted good. Nice sized piece of fish with ample sides and plenty of sauce. The jerk sauce is more of a bbq type than I’ve had in the past and wasn’t very spicy. I have a super high spice tolerance though so take that for what it’s worth. SERVICE: 5/5 The lady working the counter was nice. I ordered online so I didn’t have to deal with her too much but 5/5 because of the benefit of the doubt. ATMOSPHERE: 3/5 Thought the liquor store vibe was kind of weird. Large menu displayed when you enter from the University Blvd side. There is a little seating area added on to the lobby.
