Having lived in the area for about two years and passing Jerk House Eatery on a near-daily basis, I figured that I would finally bite the bullet and drop by this spot for a serving of oxtails. Although the restaurant has a patio area with tables, the restaurant felt more like a order your food at a counter, wait, and leave. Since I wanted the full restaurant experience, I decided to stay to consume my food. The patio area has about eight to ten tables, which nice for outside dining. However, the patio is pretty much bordered by the parking lot and a busy section of University Blvd (near Colesville Rd.), so the dining experience was not that great for me because of smoking and loud cars constantly passing by. Also, a couple of the other folks in the patio (probably regular customers) were playing their music WAY too loud for my liking. I will admit that it appears they were there to have a few buckets of beer, hang out, and watch whatever soccer/futbol game was on, so I cannot fault them. If I return, I'll more than likely will grab my food to go and eat my bites in the comfort of my home or make in the park that's down the road.
For my dining pleasure, I went with an order of oxtails, which came with two sides. I opted for side orders of cabbage and rice & beans. The plate of food was about $26 without tax and tip. Since oxtails tend to be on the pricey side, I thought the portion size was ok for the area. The food was fine, and I cannot complain too much; however, I did find the food to be a bit bland. Ok, I'm not saying that the food was necessarily bad, but I've Jamaican food from other places that had a bit more POP. However, a little hot sauce will go a long way to making the dish POP. I thought the woman working the counter was nice and very patient.
Since I'm area, I more than likely will pop by Jerk House Eatery once and a while primarily out of convenience/proximity more so than food.
