Gaza-Based Roaster Covo Coffee Finds a Temporary Home in Oakland - Eater SF

"Jerusalem Coffee House, a relatively new cafe in Oakland, has become a community hub and a warming station for activists. Owned by Abdulrahim 'Raheem' Harara, the cafe has partnered with Covo Coffee to provide a temporary storefront for the displaced business. The partnership highlights the cafe's commitment to local and global community work, especially supporting recently-displaced Palestinians." - Paolo Bicchieri

Eater SF’s Best Things to Do This Weekend: March 15 - Eater SF

"Now that the holy fast is on for observing Muslims in the Bay, it’s high time to find cafes for that evening iftar to keep the caffeine shakes off until the next morning. Jerusalem Coffee House is keeping the lights on late, putting Palestinian and human rights front and center as the Telegraph Avenue shop hosts People’s Programs and other local organizations to raise money through its evening community gatherings starting this weekend." - Paolo Bicchieri

The date tahini is AMAZING!! Absolutely delicious and worth the commute no matter where you are in the bay. The staff was very friendly and helpful and my drink came out super quickly. Atmosphere is amazing and the community feel of this place cannot be understated. This is the best coffee and it’s Palestinian owned!!

Had an amazing and hospitable experience here. You can tell that they really care about the quality of their drinks and provide an atmosphere that welcomes you in. I will be back again for sure.

Google
Beautiful cafe; lovingly created *delicious* creative beverages and menu; outstanding coffee. Do yourself a favor and stop going to Peets, this is what you're looking for. Warm, welcoming cafe and chef. Others have posted the cafe, my photo is moments from the oven foccacia that is the best I've ever had. So grateful for this wonderful shop! 💓

Google
Locally owned and operated coffee shop with a unique and beyond tasteful menu. This has to be my new go to cafe in the Oakland and broader East Bay. A lot of unique drinks such as orange blossom, cardamom spice, and date/tahini lattes that are honestly out of this world. The staff are all very helpful, kind, and knowledgeable. We highly recommend you give this place a try and we advise you try one of the more unique lattes to get the full experience.

Google

Google
I visit this bakery every time I visit Oakland from Compton. The tahini date latte is my go-to joint. This time I had some homemade savory scone from heaven. But what I like best about the cafe is the spirit of kindness and community they provide for humanity. They simply want justice to win for everybody. I’m in. ✊🏾❤️✨

Google
Hands down some of the best coffee you'll have in Oakland. The latte flavors are unique that is hard to find anywhere else. We got the Rose Blossom and the Date Tahini hot lattes (with Oat milk). Both were really good. Next time I'll definitely try the Orange one and others. The place has a cool vibe with friendly staff and chill ambiance. Next time I crave a latte, I'm going to this spot.

Google
I’ve lived in the neighborhood for decades and saw this place change a few times. I finally stopped for coffee on a walk with my dog. The owner was very friendly and welcoming, explaining all of the amazing pastries they had, and talking about growing up in the City and wanting to build a community space for artists and creative people. I can’t wait to go back and try some of the other pastries! 🤤🤤

Yelp
Amazing drinks, ambiance and atmosphere is world class, great location w/parking. Quality ingredients and phenomenal service that's timely!

Yelp
Excellent service, excellent coffee. Love the tahini latte...staff is super friendly and drinks have so much flavor with the perfect balance of boldness and richness. Also love that the place is a Palestinian themed coffee shop, which brings a uniqueness and not just another coffee house making a standard drink you can get anywhere.

Yelp
Local Palestinian owned coffee shop in North Oakland. Welcoming environment celebrating rich cultures reflected in the taste of coffee and service. I got the Iced Date Tahini which was so delicious! It was so busy in on the Wednesday morning I was there. People gathering to catch up, people working with their laptops, and other enjoying community. Ample seating for about 20 people with shared small table or the couch at the back. Definitely making this my local spot and coming back!

Yelp
Perfect lattes made with love. Kind and attentive staff. Beautiful interior and always good vibes. Definitely my preferred coffee spot in the bay area. Favorites: Cardamom-Rose Latte Ginger Latte

Yelp
My sister got a coffee from this place and it was quite good. I got the cardamon latte and it had a great flavor. The issue was the floaties, something that I don't like. My sister got a date latte and I'd like to go back for one of those too. The people were very nice. I can see myself coming back here and working on something because it is that type of comfy spot.

Yelp
Such unique coffee and flavors. Loved the orange blossom. The owner makes all the syrups by himself with good raw materials so you simply can't find this taste anywhere. He was also incredibly friendly and gave my friend a sample to help her decide what to get. Love this place!

Yelp
Excellent coffee shop! The lattes especially are very inventive. I love the date tahini latte and the orange cardamom latte - that are fantastic hot or cold. Solid parking lot too and ambiance.

Yelp
I was killing time in the neighborhood, so decided to try Jerusalem coffee. I ordered a orange blossom latte. I really like it. I had to go with whole milk, but the flavor was very good. Could definitely taste the orange blossom. Unfortunately, they don't have decaf so I had to take a chance. he did offer me a single shot, I like my coffee strong. The service was good. The ambience is casual.

Yelp
Jerusalem Coffee House is where Well's coffee was. Same infrastructure with new decor, vibes, drinks Limited seating inside. Parking at side of building. Offerings: coffee, latte, teas, muffins... Quick service once i decided what wanted. Drink: rose blossom latte (6) -choose oat milk, blended smoothly with the housemade, natural ingredients -don't usually drink lattes, this one's fab! Eats: zucchini blueberry lemon muffin (5) -lightly sweetened, layered flavors of fresh fruits & natural flavors. Yummy! Bathroom mural created by Whitney Rombery

Yelp
Highly highly highly recommend! The most unique flavored lattes, amazing customer service, abundant seating and cozy vibes throughout the cafe! Visited JCH today for the first time and will be back many, many more times. Truly in love with the Cardamom Spice latte! Also tried the cardamom rose and the tahini date (so unique!) and can vouch both were delicious. I've been to all the new middle eastern cafes and can honestly say this place takes the gold for best lattes. And the owner is just the kindest soul! 10/10 hospitality! Thank you!

Yelp
Hands down some of the best lattes you'll have in Oakland. This is a cool and chill coffee shop with delicious lattes. You'll find flavors you can't find anywhere else. The staff are friendly and the baristas are truly excellent at their craft. We got the Rose Blossom and the Date Tahini and they were both good. They provide both Oat and Whole milk at the moment. I can't wait to go back and try out the other items. I'll definitely back in the next week. This place will be popular so go there before it gets busy!

Yelp
My partner found out about this new shop on Instagram, so we decided to come by on Sunday to give them a try. I ordered a rose blossom latte which is $6 before tip, and I chose whole milk (the other possible option is oat milk). The difference between the rose blossom late and rose blossom spice, which is another drink on the menu, is that the rose blossom spice has cloves in it. The drink was finished quickly and with some latte art on top, and came in a compostable cup. I could taste the rose more at the top but after that it mostly just tasted of coffee to me, although when I tried some of the leftovers the day after, I was able to make out more of the rose flavor again. I personally am very sensitive to the bitterness of coffee, so I would've liked an even stronger amount of rose or other spices/flavors. The space is nicely decorated, though, with some gold lined furniture and a couch at the back.

Yelp
Friendly staff. Yummy lattes. Lots of flavor options and other drinks (besides coffee) available. Nice, cozy spot with beautiful decor. Really can't complain. Looking forward to coming back to try another drink and maybe their muffins!

Yelp
Loved the coffee, and the staff was super kind. They had a nice ambiance, good place to study or do some work!

Yelp
I happened to show up the first day they were open before the menu was even available and fell in love with the flavors and warmth of the proprietors. We've been back multiple times now and can confirm, they only get better. Beautiful space, beautiful people, beautiful coffee. (Cardamom rose is my favorite)

Yelp
I love that they are prop. Palestine and I was happy to see so many folks keffiyahs. My friend and I got a rose cardamom latte, and a date, tahini latte, so I was able to sample two flavors. The rose cardamom was really nice - the flavors were strong, but not overpowering, and nicely balanced. The date tahini was very subtle. It tasted like a sweet latte with a little bit of molasses... I like molasses, but I would've liked more bold and distinctive presence of both date and tahini. They don't carry decaf beans which means I probably won't go back. They were out of dairy milk, and just had oat, which was disappointing, and no food or snacks available, which was also a bummer. The shop has some tables in the front part and a couch and cushy chair in the back. So, nice seating options. However, the ambience is off for me because it was so loud. I'm glad that they're so popular, but I found it physically uncomfortable. It may be because the space is small or built-in an echoey way.

Yelp
Excellent customer service, along with Excellent coffee ! I was greeted upon arrival and felt at home immediately. Visiting Jerusalem Coffee House is a must if you are located in the Bay Area .

Yelp
Went to Jerusalem Coffee House today for the first time. What a beautiful cafe! I had a cardamom spice latte and it was delicious! I'm slightly picky about my coffee and wish the actual coffee tasted stronger, but I have come to expect that most Bay Area coffee shops use beans that are mostly a medium roast. I'm from Seattle so coffee is a bit stronger tasting up there. Anyway, I will definitely come back to JCH as I want to try the rose cardamom latte.

Yelp
I love Jerusalem Coffee House! I found my new favorite coffee shop that feels like home. they're located at 55th & Telegraph & can be easily spotted by their mural out front. Inside you'll find enough seating for friends, beautiful lamps, & lush plants in abundance. Their menu includes coffees, teas, & small treats. I ordered the tahini date latte & accidentally scarfed it down in three minutes, I'm obsessed. I also had a cookie & it was delicious Their Hibiscus Rose tea is really popular & they of course serve your basic americanos & cold brew. There's a drink for everyone, I'm on my way back to try the cardamom spice tea. The staff is so sweet, the location is darling, & the drinks are divine- what's not to love?! I'm so thankful to have @jerusalemcoffeehouse in my neighborhood, it makes me feel seen & safe.

Yelp
Loved the amazing vibe and super friendly staff! The rose cardamom latte was unreal! It's a must-try for coffee enthusiasts. 10/10, would come back!

Yelp
When I saw the JCH menu I was shocked at the incredible flavor options in front of me. The rose latte has risen in popularity over the years, but tahini date and orange blossom are incredibly refreshing! There are many others too! On top of this they have the cutest little vegan muffins that are delicious! I love the graphic design, the music on, and the cozy interior design of the space. Plus they have a really nice coffee machine! There were two people behind the counter when I visited and I couldn't have asked for better service. Thanks JCH!

Whitney F.

Yelp
Absolutely the rudest business i've ever encountered. The barista was lovely, but the manager was aggressive and confrontational to several customers. Such a shame, I was excited to find a new coffee house, but management actions have a way of infecting the rest of the business and are never solved.
google avatar

Rebecca W.

Yelp
I really enjoyed the latte offerings, and the customer service was kind, warm, and welcoming. They're a very community oriented establishment. Good vibes all around and can't wait for my next visit.
google avatar

Sharee R.

Yelp
Friendly people, great place to hang out and have good conversations. The lattes are seriously amazing especially the rose cardamom I believe is the one I had. The espresso is good. I've found parking right out front and on the side.

Yelp
This Palestinian-owned coffee shop in Oakland is a hidden gem. The date tahini latte is pure bliss, and the cozy vibes make it a must-visit spot. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Theresa H.

Yelp
The orange blossom latte is so refreshing! I was worried about the caffeine before my wisdom teeth extractions & they accommodated me with a half shot. Lovely people & amazing space. They had a fundraiser for the Palestinian children's relief fund (PCRF). Shout out to People's Programs for sharing this place!
google avatar

Erin R.

Yelp
I got the rose blossom latte with oat milk and I have to say it is one of the best floral lattes I've ever had; I'm not a huge floral coffee drinker, but this really did it for me. Also check out the art! How gorgeous, truly. If I could have sat here and worked for the day I would have. And the staff is so kind, very patient, put real care into every cup of coffee this place is incredible.
google avatar

Yelp
Cozy little coffee shop right on the corner of 55th and telegraph so it's a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of Temescal! The coffee is delicious + strong coffee and the employees here have a warm and welcoming energy! It's a nice spot to enjoy an afternoon and then you can grab a bottle of wine and some bread from the Wine Mine and Mariposa next door :-)
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
I make sure to stop here whenever I'm in the area. The date tahini latte is just unbelievable. Latte flavors you can't get anywhere else in California, as far as I know. The baristas are always very friendly and attentive, and make wonderful drinks.

Yelp
i love this cafe! i was having a meh day and i remember wanting to check out this cafe, sadly by the time i was estimated to arrive, it would be 4 min before closing. i drove over anyway because i would rather be told no we're closed vs not trying at all. i'm so happy i went anyway! the barista was so kind, i walked in and asked if they were still taking customers and she reassured me that i still had time and that they still needed to break down the bar. *yay* i was conflicted with ordering the tahini date latte or the cardamon latte so she suggested, why not combine the both. *mind blown* i gladly accepted the suggestion and im so happy that i did because it was DIVINE! i mean... that latte has to be savored and sipped on slowly because the flavors were soooo delicious. i can't wait to go back

Renee R.

Yelp
The service is terrible, the workers are very rude and unwelcoming!!! Would not recommend this place! Even Starbucks is better
google avatar

Yelp
If you're looking for a place that offers creative drinks with a strong community vibe, you gotta check out Jerusalem Coffee House! They also offer the traditional coffee options as well (coffee, etc.). There was a good mix of folks coming by for coffee drinks to-go and folks who are gathering to chat or do some work/reading. It's spaces like this coffee shop that make the East Bay special. The service is amazing, too. The staff are attentive and friendly.
google avatar

Sofia C.

Yelp
The atmosphere of this place is amazing!! I had two drinks here and both tasted great! The menu has a good variety of flavors as well as standard coffee options. Esraa is the manager of this place, she is a sweetheart! I definitely recommend this place for seating and take away. Will be back with friends!

Lila S.

Yelp
I wish I lived closer but I am from Sacramento, this would be my go to every day if possible! If you are on your way in or out of the Bay Area make sure to stop. You won't be disappointed! The service is above par, the ambience allows me to feel a connection to my people and the coffee has so many flavor nuances, I can hardly describe them. We tried 4 different combos and all were delicious but the combinations of the date and tahini as well as the rose and cardamom coffees was what will have me thinking of this coffee for a long time coming. A conversation with Raheem (the owner) was inspiring. Thank you.
google avatar

Damaris P.

Yelp
I had their date tahini latte as recommended by their lovely barista Esraa and it was incredible!! They have a parking lot as well so I didn't have to struggle for parking. I'm looking forward to trying out more of their lattes!

Jinan T.

Yelp
i saw JCH on instagram and knew i had to check them out & support a palestinian cafe! the barista and owner were lovely. everyone else was also so friendly and chatty with one another. the environment is so warm and welcoming, it was really beautiful i tried the rose cardamom latte and fell in love! i was also given a sample of the bebsi which was a sparkling qahwah, and i've truly never tasted anything like it. i was recommended the date tahini latte and can't wait to try that next! definitely coming back soon! (JCH does close for prayer on friday, around 1-2)

Zahia K.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, hospitable hosts, and great ambiance. Their coffees have the perfect amount of flavor and sweetness - not overwhelming. Looking forward to trying their cardamom rose latte next time.

Erinn G.

Yelp
I finally spent my Sunday at the Jerusalem cafe. It's popularity is on the rise ....why? Because from my observations it's a WHOLE vibe of peacefulness, great taste in overheard tunes, beautiful decor and excellent coffee. My current favs are the Tahini and the Cardamom Spice. I love the attentiveness and friendliness of the staff...they treat you like family and are completely humbled that you come in to patronize and visit. Once I came in I didn't want to leave!

Yelp
Y'all. The Date Tahini Latte. The Cardamom Spice Latte. The service. The quality of the microfoam even. Just so good! Please check out Jerusalem Coffee House for the coziest most delicious drinks, good music, and always friendly baristas!

Yelp

Yelp
I can tell they really care about the quality of the coffee, tea, and food they serve! They also care a lot about their community and the world. I got a rose oat latte and it was spectacular!

Ayaa A.

Yelp
the best hangout spot of the century workers are super super lovely, friendly and knowledgeable they have some of the most delicious sweets on the planet, definitely get some!

Lex J.

Yelp
Horrible coffee and costumer service. Rude employees have no idea what they are doing. I got food poisoning from this place

Angelica B.

Yelp
Jerusalem Coffee House is the best!! Not only do they proudly support Palestine but they also integrate delicious flavors of Palestine into their beautifully curated menu of amazing drinks. The rose cardamom and orange blossom are divine!!! Plus the baristas are so sweet and friendly. The cafe itself has cute plants basking in the Oakland sun, and it's very cozy and clean to bring your laptop to work. The cafe offers oat milk as plant milk so the lattes are vegan friendly and the best ever!!! Shukran Jerusalem Coffee House, we love you!

Chris T.

Yelp
Super tasty Palestinian owned coffee shop. Excellent customer service and the tahini date and orange blossom lattes are wonderful. Very relaxed vibes - a good place to meet people or read.

F S.

Yelp
The rose cardamom spice latte was amazing. I got very friendly professional service. They were playing very soothing instrumental music. The place is in very nice area of Oakland.

Blair N.

Yelp
Delicious coffee, cute space, and friendly staff! The rose cardamom latte is amazing.

Shwiv G.

Yelp
This place not only has incredible coffee but its spirit is truly authentic. Everyone is incredibly friendly. When you walk in you can feel a sense of community. Locals stopping in to just say hello, old school hip hop tunes I havent heard in ages. My mind is literally blown. I wish they had a spot like this in Marin (specifically in Mill Valley where we are in dire need of authenticity and trying to get back to the hippie roots/ fight the yuppie takeover)- it would be a hit! It saddens me that I live so far away! This place is a MUST try!

Tarquin G.

Yelp
Go for the delicious cardamom spice latte! Stay for the decor and relaxed vibes. Owner is lovely and very nice.
