A Guide to Brewery Hopping in Fort Collins | Eater Denver

"A Funkwerks collaboration, find barrel-aged and blended beers in this converted 19th Century hayloft. Great for sunset views and vertical flights, so you drinkers can taste how a beer changes over time and with, say, tequila- or wine-barrel notes." - Josie Sexton

Google
We are a fan of barrel aged beers and this place offers a few selection that’s worth trying. We had a flight which included three barrel aged beers and they were all excellent. Our bartender, Maddie was very friendly and welcoming. We’ll be back for sure, almost wish we live nearby so we can be regulars.

Jessup is a must-stop on your Fort Collins trek. It’s located in a converted farm house which is super cute and cozy, with the surrounding converted buildings housing some tasty-smelling restaurants and whatnot. The main taproom is located upstairs, but there is a second small taproom downstairs, and a HUGE amount of comfy outdoor seating. Got the Barrel House IPA and the Local Area Network, and both were stellar. Service was awesome and the bartenders were ultra friendly. Stopped in on a 20-mile e-bike ride (the greenways are immaculate) and highly recommend stopping in on your bike ride!

We’ve been here several times and very much enjoy the barrel-aged ales, especially the sours. The staff is always friendly and we enjoy the unique converted barn atmosphere. If you come in with an appetite, there is a small snack menu to enjoy. Pleasant outside seating in the warmer weather Plenty of parking. Highly recommend.

Google
Seriously one of the most unique, enjoyable & delicious craft beer experiences ever. This place is a real class act! Bonus: restaurants, shops & an ice cream shop on the property. I loved every relaxing minute here!

Google
Visiting friends in Ft Collins for the weekend. The first brewery we went to was highly recommended and it didn't disappoint. Most are barrel aged, and they were very on point. I started with the Feats of Strength, BBA imperial stout at 11.2% and finished up with 3 Magic Letters IPA at 7.2%. On the to do again list next time in FOCO.

Google
Jessups checks all of the boxes! Great beer, lovely staff, and warm atmosphere, not to mention a great outdoor patio! Our fav place. Jeff, the brewer, has made a lot of our fav beers! I love dark and heavy (think stouts and porters), my husband likes lights, like pilsner and Jeff delivers 🍺🍺🍺

Visited the place last week. Great dinner options, very generous portion sizes, awesome atmosphere, pleasant service and overall great experience. We visited with a team of 8 and got seated very comfortably.

Google
Enjoy some fantastic craft brews in this upscale, rustic 100+ converted barn! Excellent beer and snack options combine with an incredible space for a fantastic place to relax, enjoy some drinks and socialize for a couple hours.

Yelp
Cute little brewery upstairs with lots of seating both inside and out. Lots of good beer to choose from with fun names. Kind bartender. There's a fire pit just outside of the fence around the corner that runs a little past 9:30pm. I had never been here but will definitely stop by again!

Yelp
Had a flight with a pizza calzone and then dessert with a pretzel w/ nutella and paired it with the super tasty Imperial Stout. All the beers were well crafted and interesting- some more simple and a few more complex. The old barn provides a fun rustic ambiance. The whole complex, including the old farmhouse (now restaurant) and she'd (now coffee house) was very impressive. There are also some new buildings with restaurants and other businesses.

Yelp
The beertenders at JFBH show amazing hospitality, they make this environment such a fun one to be in--very kind and bubbly. The patio (upper and lower) is one of my favorites in Fort Collins, I'm so stoked for patio bar season! I heard their barrel aged sours are almost back on the menu... YUM.
google avatar

Yelp
Jessup Farm is tucked into a little space off Timberline. The taproom is upstairs. We felt welcomed by the staff and they were very informative about their beers and the brewery. I had a flight of non-barrel aged beers. My favorite was the 1-900 Pils. My husband tried their 7yr Anniversary beer. That has some barrel goodness going on that made him happy. I think we will give this one another taste on a future trip to FoCo.
google avatar

Yelp
The beer here is pure art, pushing beyond basic concepts of styles to the point where new ideas elevate the flavors. Easily the best beer in the area and probably in the whole state.
google avatar

Yelp
I love this place! Great beer and a great atmosphere. Try their pretzel and cheese! You can't go wrong with any beer.

Yelp
Every time we visit my sister in Fort Collins, Jessup Farm Barrel House is our first stop for beer and the brewery we most look forward to enjoying while in town. I absolutely love the cozy atmosphere within the barn-like building their brewery is situated in. It's fun to pass by all the barrels & brewing equipment as you immediately walk in the door. Their beers are also some of the best around. They have an array of beer styles from pilsners and festbiers to sours and stouts. My most recent stop last week made me fall in love with "Joyful Noise" and "Festbier". In the past I've greatly enjoyed "1-900-Pils" and "Sangriaweizen". Although almost everything I've had has been completely enjoyable. Staff here is also very friendly as well as knowledgeable about their beers. We love Jessup Farm and will always make this our first beer stop whenever we're in FoCo!

Marianne D.

Yelp
Such a nice environment. Set up in the original, renovated barn on the Jessup Farm they serve a nice variety of beers from hoppy to malty to barrel aged. Glad we saw the posting about being closed for a private event. Social media sure makes planning your beer crawls easier. Averi was knowledgeable and friendly. She told us the historic background on the farm. Loved the beer and the experience. Will definitely return.

Yelp
We love it here! Whenever we are around we stop for a beer and a nice snack. The food and beer selection is great! I love how mellow the place is, the music is always good and at the perfect volume to have a nice conversation. Definitely recommend, it is a 5 star across the board for beer, food, service and overall ambiance!

Yelp
Very cool brewery in Fort Collins! I've been to all the breweries in town and this one has excellent beer! The parking lot is small on the west side, but there is additional parking down the hill to the east. The service is good and the bartenders upstairs are friendly and helpful. There is a lot of outdoor patio space, but not as much room inside for seating. I've tried several different beers from IPAs to barrel aged stouts and all have been high quality. The brewery has won some big awards over time, which shows their attention to quality beer. The upstairs bar is cozy and welcoming and that is where I prefer to sip on my beer. I'll definitely be back for more.

Richard S.

Yelp
Would give this place zero stars. I hope you got a lot of money to be closed on a Friday when many beer drinkers are in Colorado for GABF. NOT COOL. I come here yearly from Cleveland and recommend this place. Never again! You do not do this to all the rest of your customers. Maybe the company and the selfish newlyweds can pay to fly me back out there. Someone clearly has money.
google avatar

Kara H.

Yelp
They are operating at 50% capacity right now, which is wild considering how small the space seems even at that capacity! Very cozy, with great ambiance- I love the aesthetic and how they took an old barn and reused the space in such a cool way. They can their own crowlers, which was really cool to watch. Service was super friendly! Brought to you by the same people who did Funkworks, the beers are all really flavorful and complex, even the lighter beers that we tried (the Helles in Wonderland and the Senior Discount). I'm not a huge barrel aged or sour drinker, but if you are, this is the brewery for you.
google avatar

David K.

Yelp
Went there on 9/26. This was our first time there. There was 4 people and a dog. From previous pictures I knew they had a good size patio so my dog could have his own room. Tables are spread out and bartenders were wearing mask. The bar is upstairs. If you're sitting at a table outside they will come to you and you can order. They have a great selection of beers from like to dark, simple to barrel aged. They have a very good variety. We tried 3 of their pre determined flights. All were great. I really enjoyed all of their IPAs. The rest of my group really like the Sangriaweizen. Great customer service. Very attentive. They do also have a limited food menu. The pretzel is worth it. Will def be back! Cheers!

Yelp
This is totally a brewery for funky beer lovers. They have your IPAs, pilsners, etc. to suit everyone's taste. But also a huge variety of barrel aged, sours, and beers that are a bit out there. My personal favorites: "Unicorn Bubbles" (Oak barrel-aged golden sour with hibiscus, lemon peel, & orange peel) and "Feel the Peel" (Oak barrel-aged golden sour with fresh lemon peel, ginger, & lemon thyme). Feel the Peel was a surprise, it got brought to me by mistake so I got to try it. The thyme and lemon made it sour and fresh, but expect the sour. My least favorite was the "I'm an Autumn" too much cinnamon for my personal taste. Part of the farmhouse complex. When you walk into barrel house, brewing is downstairs, taphouse upstairs. Flights are four five ounce pours. They can their own crowlers. We walked out with big cans of my two faves :)
google avatar

Yelp
Me and my wife stopped in and had a delicious flight. First, the location and building are adorable. There are two floors. We sat upstairs where they have tons of fox decor and foxes jumping over barrels. The beers were delicious and the bar tender was very knowledgeable and helpful. It was a great way to start a Sunday in Fort Collins. I will be back for more beer in the future!

Yelp
My spouse and I were excited to go back to Jessup Farm Barrel House while visiting FoCo this week! Our local friends still say this is their favorite local brewery 2 years later (when we last visited). I enjoyed the Tequila Train Delay and the delicious cheese flight, while my spouse slammed the pizza panini along with the Pilsner and 3 Magic Letters. The space is very unique, well spaced out, and I appreciate the large outdoor patio. Accessibility: It's a bummer there is no wheelchair accessible entry to the 2nd floor bar/tasking room. The main level patio is partially shaded with bathrooms on the 1st floor of the barn. We definitely plan on visiting every time we are in town to try their new beers and soak in the atmosphere of the barrel house and Jessup Farm area.

Yelp
Wow, time to give Jessup Farm Barrel House a shout out with an updated 5-star review. This is a favorite brewery to visit. Friendly staff, great ambiance in or out, and always something delicious on the tap. If you are in FoCo looking to check out the local brewery scene, Jessup should be toward the top of your list!

Yelp
Steven & Co. do a great job the good, the service & the ambiance are phenomenal all around.....you are always treated like family. .......they do it right, they do it well and above all they care. Excellence abounds !

Yelp
Very cool little spot with ample patio space and indoor space to relax, kick back and enjoy a variety of beers. I tried a funky flight and really enjoyed the flavorful beers. Priced reasonably at $15, looking forward to trying more beers in the future.

Yelp
Great place for a casual beer and a great conversation. Fun staff and a great flight selection.

Issy D.

Yelp
This is one of the best breweries I've ever been too! The setting is an adorable old barn. There's a good amount of sitting outside and upstairs, but we opted for a picnic table outside. You really can't go wrong with any of the beer but getting a flight is probably a good idea. My favorite was the HoneyDew It and the Peel beer. The Unicorn Bubbles was also a favorite and tasted like a tart juice. The staff here was so kind and made the experience even better. The beer here made everyone at our table happy and left us all with big smiles!
google avatar

Becki H.

Yelp
With so many breweries to choose from in Fort Collins, this is my favorite for so many reasons. The barrel-aged beer selection is so creative and always delicious (Legal In Europe: a whiskey barrel-aged imperial stout with cinnamon, cacao and chiles is a must-try). Their sour program is producing better and better glasses of heaven each time (Hurry Up and Wait: Dry Hopped or Fruited, you can't go wrong!). Even the beers that they don't barrel age (Try the Helles in Wonderland if you're not ready for the barrel yet) are crisp, clean and exquisite. The staff is incredibly friendly and knowledgable, and has done a fantastic job turning customers into regulars. We regularly see the same groups of people each time we're there which speaks volumes to how every customer is treated by the kind staff. The building itself is a beautiful piece of history, built into a 120 year old barn. The sloped barn ceilings, exposed beams, and barrels that surround the tasting room create an expansive, yet cozy feel. The patio is large and bustling, and makes for a great view of the sunset on those warm summer nights. Bonus: They always have extra receipt paper and pens in case you have a game of Farkle that needs to be won.

Yelp
Stopped int o try this brewery while my husband and I were in Fort Collins. We tried Transfer Day IPA it was the best of our whole trip. They did a great job with social distancing and handling all those changes. The only reason it did not get a 5 stars is the food menu was a tad over priced for our taste. So we filled a growler and got food somewhere else. I highly recommend the beer!!
google avatar

Jake J.

Yelp
Another super cool brewery in Colorado we were very impressed with the barrel aged beers

Yelp
A little bit away from other FoCo breweries (only about 15 minutes), and located in a small "village" of other shops and a restaurant, Jessup Farm Barrel House turned out to be one of my most liked craft breweries on a recent Colorado beercation. Housed in a converted barn, the atmosphere is very woodsy cozy, yet sleek. Downstairs is filled with tanks and barrels tasting room is upstairs. High vaulted ceilings lend to the overall charm. Their focus is on barrel-aged brews (love!) - about half of their 16 taps. Choose a beautiful flight of four or by the glass (they also fill growlers to go). One of my favorites brews was their Feet of Strength Imperial Stout. At a whopping 11.1% abv, it was incredibly smooth and gentle on the tongue - a lot of fruity and smoky notes present. Jessup also does a fine job on IPAs, some German-styles, and even have a nitro tap. JFBH has a very different overall feeling than you might expect from most breweries. It has a lot of character and they offer a small food menu (e.g., Olives, Bavarian Pretzel, Sandies). The seasonal Cheese Plate with olive oil crackers really complimented the beers I sampled. Be prepared to stay a while. It's just that kind of place. :) Highly recommend! Cheers!

Yelp
Some of the best beer I've had in NoCo. The atmosphere can range from quiet and chill to lively and loud- I guess it depends on when you go and who you go with. Some sandwiches and snacks are served- I loved the pickled okra!
google avatar

Ray D.

Yelp
I love this place. Great variety and relaxing atmosphere to hang out. I love the indoor and outdoor spaces.
google avatar

Monique H.

Yelp
Seriously, every beer I had here was on point. I love barrel aged beer though so I was easy to please. This was a very unique spot with the tasting room on the second story overlooking a quaint neighborhood and green fields. The bartenders were accommodating and forthcoming with interesting stories about the location and history of the brewery. This stop is a must when visiting FoCo breweries.

Justin S.

Yelp
This place is great! We went there for pizza and drinks on a Wednesday evening and it was fantastic! They had live jazz playing outside, and the atmosphere was really chill. The pizza from the food truck (Misfits) was delicious, as well! The old barn is really cool with great history and the bar upstairs is very cool. If you're looking for a great atmosphere, with delicious beers, this is a great option!
google avatar

Jasmine W.

Yelp
*during coronavirus* Adorable rustic brewery! I'd love to have a wedding at this spot. The outdoor patio is fantastic with great spaced out seating and overlooks the pastures. They brew mostly in barrels, which leaves a heavenly depth of flavor in the beers. We had: - Older Fattier and Happier: a gin barrel aged DIPA that is super smooth. I don't love DIPA but this is very drinkable - Weiss with Age: gin barrel aged Hefeweizen with chamomile, elderflower, lavender, lemon peel - Sangriaweizen: red wine barrel aged wheat ale with black currant, pink guava, and blood orange It's a ways from downtown Fort Collins, but well worth the detour.
google avatar

Melyssa F.

Yelp
This is such a cute small barn brewery! There's a decent amount of places to sit and if it gets packed you can always share a table as well with others like we did. As you sit they give you a pretzel snack which is a very nice touch. They have small plates you can order from as well but we didn't since we were having dinner at the Italian place next door. They have lots of beer options and extra points for having barrel aged beer! Would highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Marc B.

Yelp
Fantastic barrel aged beers. Transfer day IPA is a phenomenal balanced IPA; what an IPA should be. There beers are tasty, balanced, and on target. The facility is beautiful and warm. A must visit when in Fort Collins. Go Rams!
google avatar

Jordan C.

Yelp
Super a cute beer stop! In such a cute building! In such a cute area! I was driving in from Salt Lake City and needed a stop after a long drive. The beer was totally worth the stop. I got a flight and enjoyed every beer I tried. The staff was very accommodating and helped us figure out where to eat next. The brewery was busy, but didn't feel over crowded. It's a cozy build out and feels intimate and like you're in someone's living room. It's a clean space with wood and white all around. There's also barrels lining the walls, which is fun to be drinking good beer knowing it's coming from the barrels you're sitting next to.
google avatar

Raymond J.

Yelp
This is one of the places that has the most character of all. Excellent building and decor. Menu with awesome attention to detail. Desserts that focus on providing flavor without too much sugar. It's like the chef is most interested in health which is welcome. Great concept of daily donut feature and coffee. Fantastic find. I wish these guys success

Yelp
If you love barrel-aged beer, Jessup Farm Barrel House is right up your alley. I'm not a huge fan but my husband loves them. So naturally he was excited to check this place out when our girl Megan suggested it. The atmosphere is comfortable. After ascending the stairs to the second floor of a building that resembles a farmhouse, a small tap room awaits. Outside there are picnic tables and some table seating, but we opted to stay in the tap room. I tried "Wheelhouse" (a brown ale) and "Fake News" (IPA), which was my favorite. I had a full pour of that. I don't remember what my husband had but of course it was something barrel-aged. JFBH has sandwiches, cheese plates, and small plates but we didn't order any food. I have to admit that their giant Bavarian pretzel looked amazing, through. Overall it was nice to visit. I liked the atmosphere, service was prompt, but the beertenders weren't exactly warm and friendly. I might give it another try when I'm back in the area.

Yelp
I remember on trips to Fort Collins when I was little the Jessup Farm being an active farm and throughout a few decades that followed when I lived in Fort Collins. But as development increased in Fort Collins many farms got sold and the property that was once farms became subdivisions. Many of the old buildings usually got removed in place of brand new buildings but in the case of Jessup Farm the buildings are preserved and remain intact for the farm. In the barn or at least what I think was a barn is now home to a brewery, the Jessup Farm Barrel House. This brewery is excellent as many of their brews are experimental in nature and dares to be bold with unusual ingredients. Something that I am always looking for when exploring new breweries. At Jessup Farm Steve and I had two of their beers. I had the Legal in Europe which is a barrel aged imperial stout spiced with cocoa nibs, cinnamon and chiles. Truly a delightful and memorable beer! Steve had the Unicorn Bubbles. It is a sour beer and Steve has been on a sour beer kick lately and it too was excellent! This beer was a barrel aged golden sour ale with hibiscus. The sour pucker feature was not too overpowering like how some sours are which made it an extremely enjoyable beer! The atmosphere is great obviously since the setting is in an old barn and the service is knowledgeable and friendly!
google avatar

Yelp
Great tap list and even better atmosphere! They have curated flights that are delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
The food was great but unfortunately the staff was awful. I don't know if it was an off night but we went once and will never go back.
google avatar

Danica S.

Yelp
My partner and I hit up this place about a month or so ago when we were getting away to Fort Collins for the weekend. It's a cute area with a handful of business nestled in a neighborhood. We each got a flight of beer, split a pretzel, and had a sandwich. The beers were great, the cheese with the pretzel was my partner's favorite part, and the sandwiches were solid. We'd definitely make a stop here the next time we're in Fort Collins!
google avatar

Bob B.

Yelp
Unbelievable! Beers that are so amazing! Clean, crisp perfect execution. Fantastic flavors. Great diversity of selection. Super chill, relaxing environment. Oh man am I glad we strayed from the usual places to try the JFBH. Like I said, unbelievable!
google avatar

Aleigha H.

Yelp
Least favorite brewery of the night. I'm sure they have good beers, but I didn't taste them. Whatever you do don't order the honeydew it- more like the honey don't. The smell is horrible which made me not want to drink. I also had the two year anniversary. Way to much going on in that beer. Like I said I'm sure they have good ones. I just didn't try them.
google avatar

Christopher B.

Yelp
A local distiller recommended this place to us, and it makes sense if many of their beers are barrel aged. I was more intrigued with the concept of the entire area so I was pretty excited to check this out. What surprised me was how small the space is. I guess many breweries seem to open up in such huge areas and this was really hit the mark being upstairs in a former barn. I only had the Fancy Pants beer and it really impressed me. I think I really like the yeast taste so it really resonated with me. What I wasn't a big fan of is that these are $3-4 pours for 5 ounces. It's a great option if you don't want a full beer but it's a lousy choice if you want to try various beers and have to drive I like did. I'd like to see them add some 2 ounce pours like other local breweries so there is an opportunity to taste a vast array of beers than to be limited to one or two. I'm definitely a fan and looking forward to coming back to try something else although it might be hard to sway too far from Fancy Pants.
google avatar

Matt C.

Yelp
Walking in my favorite thing is the smell. The building has a delicious smell from all of the different barrels that they use to age. The bottom floor is all of their aging barrels and brew house with the top floor as the tasting room. It has a neat rustic decor. Their beer is extremely drinkable. They focus on short term barrel aging, but keep the beers in the 4-5% range. They're some of the most smooth and drinkable beers that I've had. My favorite was the Grifter which is a rum-barrel aged brown. All of their barrel aged beers have a touch of flavor from the barrel; but aren't overwhelming. They're also beers I could easily sit back and have three for four of, quite tasty. Their barrel aged taster tray is a good deal so if recommend starting there.
google avatar

Yelp
What a gem. As you can see I'm a bit of a beer traveler. This joint is a must stop in boulder. Very unique a farm house style place where you're sitting at the bar in a loft. They have barrel aged products. They speak my language. I'm glad a guy at a bigger brewery put us on to Jessup.
google avatar

Victoria T.

Yelp
I've visited most breweries in Fort Collins, and this one surpassed even my wildest dreams. Not only do you get a small bowl of snacks upon visiting the barrelhouse, but the variety of beers offered there is amazing. My favorite of the night was a whiskey-barrel aged boysenberry sour, and it made my tastebuds sing. The rustic decor creates a cozy, comfortable atmosphere that's perfect for winding down after a long day at work or hanging out with a small group of friends. We will definitely be back many, many times to enjoy this laid-back gem.

George G.

Yelp
The best brewery in Fort Collins. And I don't say that lightly. Every single beer they brew is incredible, and they're doing many unique things there. They care about every step of the process - the atmosphere, the smells, the unique combinations of ingredients that are delicious and not just "different", even the glasses they serve the beer in - not just plain glasses, but fluted or specially shaped glasses to highlight the flavors and nose of the beer. The perfect place to enjoy perfect beer.

Yelp
This was our second stop on our self-guided brewery tour Friday night. Awesome beer and atmosphere!! We started with the Bloode Orange, Legal In Europe, Wheelhouse and a flight of pales. We loved every one of them!! When we didn't think it could get any better....we tried the Nib Knot Nitro, Wood Knot and Fancy Pants. Unbelievable!!! We won't hesitate to go back!! Btw- the service was just as good as the beer!!

Yelp
What can I say, other than pleasant surprises come in all forms, shapes, and sizes. Let's start with the most important part, the beer. Many of the beers were Barrel aged and came with a very different taste. They were as much of a surprise to me as any brewery prior has offered. They varied to sharp and upfront to the oh so subtle vanilla flavor at the end. If you don't care for your basic beers, I recommend given these at least a chance. There is a beer for just about anyone. The beertender, Colleen was most excellent. She was very personable and attentive. She gave us plenty of service while we were on the patio even though she was the only worker. She even gave us recommendations of where our dog was welcomed throughout the city (yes dogs are welcomed here on the patio only). She is absolutely amazing and would love her as a beertender anywhere I would go. Now onto the space. The outside patio is simple but welcoming to all people and pooches. It reminds me of growing up in the Midwest and and socializing with all the local neighbors. The downstairs is the bread maker where they make the beer!!! Upstairs is a small but comforting space to enjoy your beers. Not sure what it's like during normal drinking hours but during lunch time it's absolutely perfect. If you have time for a snack, get the cheese tray. Coming from the Midwest it's hard to impress me with cheese but Jessup Farms certainly did so. If you don't read anything but this line, I insist you give this place a try.

Yelp
I am already looking forward to returning. Everything we tried was spectacular. We purchased three bottles to take home. Thank you for an excellent experience. Keep up the great work! Oh-and thank you for being open on Memorial Day.
