Where to Eat and Drink in Chevy Chase | Eater DC

"With several locations across D.C., Jetties has become a solid deli known for its specialty sandwiches, soups, and salads. Seasonal offerings, such as the grilled ham & goat cheese sandwich and turkey apple salad, are regularly rotated into the menu. On the soup front, don’t miss out on the Maryland crab soup and New England clam chowder. The kids’ menu features one entree, two sides, and one drink for $9.95. Owner Bo Blair is bringing his Navy Yard Southern staple Due South to Chevy Chase later this year." - Mekita Rivas

I'm usually a big fan of Jetties' salads, but my latest visit was a bit of a letdown. Unfortunately, my bowl was only half full, which was disappointing considering the price. Hoping this was just an off day, as I've always enjoyed their fresh ingredients and tasty dressings. Photos are of an untouched salad. Bowl looks half empty.

The manager at this location his name is Freddy is absolutely fantastic and so is the entire stop here at this establishment. Please tip them They are very good people and always with a smile on their face. My husband and I just ate inside and had the most delicious sandwiches and ice cream.

Waited 30 minutes for grocery store "quality". They forgot about our orders until after waiting for 30 minutes (you know, to give them grace because they are busy), we went up to the counter and asked where they were. The orders took maybe a minute to "make", aka bring pre-packaged food from out back. They just forgot. And then one of the items wasn't what we asked for. No apology for any of that. And of course they make you tip upfront. They sure were on top of handing out Doordash orders, though. Food quality is what you can get from the premade section at the grocery store. The space is tiny and hot. Overall waste of an hour.

Google
Cute little place that serves hot food, salads, and ice cream. I stopped by on a whim to try their strawberry and vanilla ice cream and loved them! I picked up a double scoop of each to bring home and still have a little left to enjoy later. It's really good, in my opinion: not too sweet for my tastes. I'd go again for more. The interior is nicely set up: tables for dining in, some outside, cookies (which I'd love to try another time) at the counter, a kiosk by the wall... easy layout that feels inviting. Not much else to say about Jetties, as I really only came in for a few moments and specifically wanted to try the ice cream, which I can now recommend. Give this place a try! 5/5 stars (based off ice cream).

Google
I have been meaning to stop by this location for ages and so glad I finally got the chance. This place and their food is frickin awesome! I came in the other day and had the Clark Cove sandwich aka Roasted turkey, coleslaw, white american cheese, and Thousand Island dressing on toasted sourdough. I also had their seasonal salad with Spinach greens, goat cheese, butternut squash and all sorts of filling deliciousness.

Very nice place for you, your Family, friends, and love ones to come to scoop up some delicious ice cream. Online orders available, pick up and delivery service is great...delivered right to your door. Check them out. Let me know what you think.

Google
Jetties is a sandwich shop with owners and employees who care about what they're making for their customers. The food is fresh, the portions are large, and the choices are plenty. Take out is quick, but the shop also has several tables for "eat in". The prices are slightly higher than I'm used to back home in Michigan, but I could only eat 1/2 of the sandwich that I got, so it ended up being two meals!

Google
The toffee cookie is amazing. The sandwiches taste good and decently portioned, but the "toasted" bread was not really toasted. We did not get "hot" sandwiches, but it still took about 15 minutes to get them. Prices a little above average for not having fountain sodas. Pasta salad was different and tasted good, but a little dry.

Yelp
This is my go to place for sandwiches and quick lunch items. The food is always fresh, prepared quickly, and I feel like the ingredients are solid and top-notch. I'm surprised at these lower rated reviews because I've never had an issue with jetties and I've been ordering from them for over 10 years .

Yelp
I stopped here for lunch on a busy Saturday with nice weather outside. I was glad I was planning to eat outside, because inside is really noisy even with only a few guests- I think it's just how the building is. I like the kiosk ordering, but after 10 minutes when I went to the front the staff had no idea I had ordered. They made my sandwiches in the next two minutes. The good news is that the sandwiches were incredible! I got the Steps Beach and my friend got the Nobadeer without Mayo or cranberry. They were both delicious, with really fresh ingredients. They were also perfectly made, with crispy toasted bread and assembled well. With huge portions and lots of other sandwiches to choose from, I'll be back!

Yelp
I don't come here often but when I'm in town I try to go. It is a cute little shop on They have both pre selected options and customizable sandwiches. My favorite is the Thanksgiving sandwich, just the right amount of sweet and savory with some chips.
google avatar

Yelp
Jetties is a delivery staple for us at work. Sandwiches are fresh, tasty and consistent. Yesterday, they forgot my sandwich modifications but it was great nonetheless. I had the cisco (love the caramelized onions) and my coworkers got the dreamland and stilldock.

Yelp
The food is generally good enough. However the ventilation is horrendous. It's is visibly smoky in the restaurant - and you will 100% come away smelling like cook oil. Incredibly unpleasant. You'd think doing take out would resolve the problem, but their order ready times are almost always way too optimistic - so you're left sitting in the terrible environment. Seems to be a health and safety issue to me - they have a giant vent hood but it looks like all the actual electronics were pulled out and it is not working. The tiny vent over the cook top is obviously inadequate. Do not recommend going here in person.

Yelp
This is a cute place that is usually not too crowded and has a nice indoor and outdoor seating area. They are a bit on the slow side but the ingredients are fresh and food is great. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
Didn't have lunch when i saw Jetties pop up i said let me try this . I'm kinda a plain Jane with my sandwich, i ordered roasted Turkey , havarti , bacon and red onions on sourdough. Very very good
google avatar

Jason L.

Yelp
Poor Ventilation -- Thought I would take a moment to provide customer feedback. Today a spent 2 mins inside the store to pick up my order, and in short time my clothing smells like food. Don't get me wrong, the food is great, but the odor is not flattering. I've heard this sentiment from others as well. Hopefully you can add some sort of ventilation system. I'm certain your employees will also appreciate it. Can't image they enjoy working with the smoky and orders conditions!
google avatar

Yelp
Food was meh, indoors is very smoky and loud. The cashier was rude. Can't hear, ESOL, took my mask down so she could hear me and she yelled about my mask. But it's ok to eat with mask off. Get a life. We won't be back. We are outside and left to never return.
google avatar

Jill S.

Yelp
Love the food. But I am waiting almost 30 minutes for my order. They are very busy but they maybe need to shut down online orders to take care of the people who come in.
google avatar

Tom F.

Yelp
Tried to pick up an order placed early in the week. They were confused and the language barrier is stunning. Of course they mandate masks but the worker preparing the food had no mask. Finally found the order after 30 minutes and a phone call from my daughter in law who placed it. Order was not ready but they finally had it 15 minutes later. This may be good for some but I will never use or recommend.

Yelp
I was wary from the reviews, but I had to get on here and mention that I built my own salad and it was just what I was looking for. It was missing an ingredient, but it wasn't one I paid extra for so it's OK! They may have room for improvement but the portion was huge, had fresh ingredients, and I really liked the balsamic dressing!

Danielle f.

Yelp
Stopped in here for a salad and a cup of soup. The Maryland Crab soup tasted pretty good although it may have come from a can. It was hot. I got the Tuckernuck salad. It was supposed to be romaine lettuce but instead I received kale. The turkey was seriously desiccated and the tomatoes were so old and shriveled that one actually tasted fizzy. Disgusting. The staff were very pleasant or I would give zero stars. Won't be back and don't recommend it. Sorry Jetties.

Nathan F.

Yelp
Only ordered takeout (small interior space) and got the nobadeer which is one of their speciality sandwiches with roasted turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo on sourdough and man is it good. All the ingredients were high-end and it tasted like a post home-cooked thanksgiving meal sandwich. Would recommend.

DC R.

Yelp
1 star for the chowder. The rest is all junk food with junk ingredients. Even salads are unhealthy with canned and jar ingredients. Not for us. Won't be back.
google avatar

Yelp
I am improving my review to four stars. Sandwiches are generally plentiful and delicious. This has become a regular staple to the neighborhood. I'm glad they increased their portion size over the last couple of years. My go to sandwich is the Nobadeer, Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce, on sourdough bread. But most of their sandwiches and salads are very popular. Hard to go wrong for a simple lunch at this neighborhood joint.
google avatar

Dominic L.

Yelp
I have had countless Nobadeers (Thanksgiving meal in sandwich form) which are still one of the best sandwiches around town. I just had a Still Dock (breaded chicken and Chipotle mayo) which is now a very close second. Delicious! Two other sandwiches I've tried are also good, the Quidnet (Italian) and the Surfside (turkey/bacon/avocado). Salads are good but are generally over-priced. They also serve ice cream and have other good desserts. Overall a great spot to grab a quick meal. A very welcome addition to this neighborhood.

Yelp
I visited this Jetties two days ago, and it was not the usual experience at the other Jetties. 1. The environment was not clean, and when I left, my jacket had a dingy smell. 2. This location should adapt to the use of technology payment; it's pretty obscure that a restaurant chain like this doesn't accept any form of phone monetary transactions. 3. The staff was not welcoming and seemed to have attitudes when making the sandwiches.
google avatar

Kurt S.

Yelp
Rarely have I encountered such rude employees. No hello. No thank you. Pushed the receipt in front of me to sign without saying a word. I'm not sure if the employees are challenged in some ways or just lack any social or customer service skills. Made me feel like I never want to come back and that I made a mistake walking in.

Yelp
EXPERIENCE: I ordered online and picked it up myself. It was relevantly quick and the woman who handed my food after asking for my name gave me a smile. ENVIRONMENT: Unfortunately, I didn't get a quick look at the place due to hunger.. **left palm on the face** after the food was handed to me, I immediately left.

Yelp
I love their salads, especially the Straight Wharf! I have to avoid gluten so I have only tried a couple things, but I do always look forward to them. All my coworkers love getting their sandwiches. It's always a treat. I love the beachy vibes in the restaurant too. A little cheesy, but very fun, and gives me some nostalgia for my CA days.
google avatar

Kevin B.

Yelp
Delicious!! $12 for a sandwich that was probably 800+ calories is a little pricey but oh boy it was good! I had the Still Dock which has: Crispy breaded chicken breast with blue cheese, bacon, iceburg lettuce and chipotle mayo on a toasted brioche roll. I also added some peppers. Tiny place so it was crowded during lunch but you can order online or over the phone.
google avatar

Yelp
This store handles no cash! That certainly was a surprise as I approached the counter. (That said, there was a tip jar near the register with cash unit!) A small restaurant (4 4tops and 2 2tops) so prepare to wait if you are not getting the sandwich to go. Full menu of soups (clam chowder, crab), salads and sandwiches. Lots of great sounding specialty sandwiches, or you can build your own with all the ingredients. I had a turkey, havarti, avocado, and bacon on sourdough that was delicious. Large Sammy, could easily be shared. My lunch companion had tuna fish and she said it was delish. If you are in the NW Chevy Chase Circle area and want a good sandwich, it's worth a spot. Finding a parking place was a challenge, but we were able to find spots at noon on a Tuesday!

Yelp
This is a simple sandwich shop that makes amazing sandwiches. The food is great. We had totally different sandwiches and both were amazing.

Yelp
This was my first time at a Jetties. Nice sandwich shop chain here in the DC area. They have a pretty decent selection of interesting hot and cold sandwich and salad offerings as well as ice cream. The menu itself was good though nothing that blows your mind or anything. I got the Nobadeer which was basically a Thanksgiving Friday sandwich. Turkey, stuffing, cranberry sauce and mayo on sourdough. The sandwich was pretty good all in all. The turkey was moist still, which is a plus since it can often be dry, though it was sliced deli turkey, and not like chunks you might get from an actual roasted bird. The stuffing brought nice flavor and the sauce kept the whole sandwich moist and added a nice sweetness to offset the savory. The bread was very fresh, but nothing spectacular either. For $10 i'd have liked to have had a pickle or some chips thrown in, but alas, not to be. The service was quick and friendly so no issues there. It's a nice lunch spot if you have an hour from work, but nothing I would really crave.

Yelp
Had to order through Doordash. After picking up order, & getting home, one sandwich was not in bag. Went back to resolve, no apology. 2 sandwiches didn't have a major ingredient on it. During this time of "social distancing & hygiene," staff not wearing PPE properly! Heard good things about the place, guess I was wrong!

Brenda S.

Yelp
I just read the negative reviews so I'm inclined to give a nice one. I like the shop. Cisco is my favorite sandwich but I have about 5 that I order regularly (dreamland, the meatball one, steps beach...). Sure... not as cheap as Subway but their food is better.
google avatar

Gladstone P.

Yelp
I don't know what happened to this place. Seems as nothing is cooked, made, baked or sliced on-site and the quality is notches below the original store which was a great. It used to be my go-to, but between getting the wrong order, less meat on the sandwiches and the general feel like they don't care as much as the original location, I'm not coming back for awhile. Since they've expanded I think it's stretched the quality control...I've seen other reviews saying the same and I hate that it's the case. Hope they fix their model.
google avatar

Loisann T.

Yelp
This place is amazing!!! We love their sandwiches and the staff is super friendly. They are so knowledge and helpful with choosing your sandwich. I haven't tried their salads but they look great. It's nice to be able to see how they make it right away in front of you. I love the Nobadeer with stuffing! The make your own sandwiches are great as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Jetties used to be better. On my last two visits they gave me the wrong sandwich. When it happened a few weeks ago they were very busy and had a long line. Today I was among 6 people in the store. I got it for take out and when I called they did not apologize. They did make a correct sandwich and I had to drive back. As well the sandwiches today were noticeably small (less meat). They charge a premium price and it was not a premium sandwich today. Jetties used to be my go to place for lunch.
google avatar

Melissa C.

Yelp
I visited Jetties with a group of 40+ people. This was probably the most incredible sandwich I've ever had and they got everyones order correct. I would go here again anyway.

Nick I.

Yelp
A guy was very rude to me when I showed up just a few minutes before they opened. 'Excuse me??!! We're not open yet!' Dude, there's a deli next door and a Subway next to that. You failed. PS-The deli next door is awesome, incidentally.
google avatar

Rosa L.

Yelp
Their service is a hit or miss at times but their food is really good for lunch. I wouldn't go there for dinner, their tuna sandwich is delicious and they have a lot of veggie options. Their kids meals are over priced and not the best quality. I do love that they have ice cream! That a plus :-)
google avatar

Thomas W.

Yelp
Jetties is a beach-style sandwich shop started in Georgetown and now a presence in the DMV. I love their Maryland Crab soup also, but their sandwiches are what should keep you coming back. Now that they have Gifford's ice cream, Jetties should be a mainstay for Washingtonians. I remember the days when people used to make fun of Washington restaurants. Jetties and others have made the Washington Metropolitan Area proud!
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
I base this 4 star review on its location and the steady business they have. The prices are up there. They serve sandwiches and have indoor outdoor seating. They're doing well during the short time they have been there
google avatar

Shannon E.

Yelp
Traditionally thisbisnmy favorite sandwich spot, I work less than a block away and eat here regularly. Today tho there was a steam of hair in my sandwich and it was upsetting because I was on the go and didn't have time to turn around and get another one prepared. I would ask that you start implementing hair nets.... I'll be back but I was disappointed this trip.

Matthew R.

Yelp
Please change your Door Dash settings to allow special requests. I'm allergic to both mayo and your multigrain bread, and it is ridiculous that I can't even ask to hold the mayo or use different bread. It's not like the sandwiches are premade. I would order jetties way more often if basic alterations were allowed.
google avatar

Alexis M.

Yelp
I love Jetties. This really should be 3.5 stars, but its not worth giving 4 stars. The flavors don't seem to be as deep as they used to be. I also got caramelized onions added to my nobadeer sandwich, but found quite a few pieces of the onion paper. Very unpleasant to find large pieces of onion paper as you are enjoying your sandwich.
google avatar

Jim P.

Yelp
Kind of an unorganized silly and a bit of a ripoff. OK...so the sandwich was good and the soup was too but the overall feel was of disorganized silliness with the attitude of you are lucky to be getting a sandwich from us. To explain: Went in cuz it was nearby and we could eat outside but the patio was silly crowded with chairs and tables...way more than could be used if there were actual people in them..as it was they were half full but everyone was cramped due to all the furniture. Take out a few tables and chairs and problem solved. 2nd, the ordering system is silly with the cards where you check boxes for what you want. For one thing it is a waste of paper, for another it is confusing (and there is another form for kids meal). I felt like I was doing my taxes. Ultimately I think the only reason they do it so they can hire staff that has minimal English ability. 3rd Drinks are expensive. $2.25 for a fountain drink?! After shelling out $8 or more for sandwich?! more on this in #4 4th back to the drinks...and the chips...there are no prices for drinks or chips ANYWHERE! And they are not on the silly order form either (unless I missed a form?). So, in my case I forgot to order a drink..which is probably best as I might have had a heart attack if I had seen the price, or worse realized I had paid $2.25 for a serve yourself drink. When I mentioned to the staff that they they might want to actually post the prices of the drinks they looked at me like I was from another planet. The look of confusion was hard to believe. Is this a "if you have to ask then you can't afford it" type drink fountain? I think maybe this works out great as people don't realize how much the drinks are until it is too late. I actually just grabbed a bag of chips without paying. I thought, for the price, they would have been included. . The only way I knew the drink was not included was because there were no cups out so I asked....forgot to ask about the chips though...we just ate them. Could be a decent spot if they had a little more insight into what a first time customer sees. As it is I doubt I will go back.

Yelp
If you are looking for a great sandwich, you will not find a better place than Jetties in DC. The bread is locally sourced and tastes incredible. In addition, the turkey they use is fresh roasted turkey, not the deli kind. The Pocomo sandwich is my favorite. It's portabello mushrooms, butternut squash, and goat cheese spread cooked in an oven on multigrain bread. Yes, it is not cheap, but these sandwiches are meals within themselves and you will get exceptional bang for your buck. Word to the wise, you are usually better off price wise selecting one of their premium sandwiches than making your own. They also have Gifford's ice cream, which is as good or better than Ben & Jerry's. Cherry Blossom and Muddy Boots are my favorite flavors.
google avatar

Kelly O.

Yelp
I have ordered from this Jetties several times through DoorDash. 90% of the time that I have ordered several of my toppings on my salad have been missing, but they charge me for these extra toppings. When I call the store to complain, they are unapologetic and offer nothing. So they basically get away with highway robbery. I do not recommend this store. They are terrible!
google avatar

Greg E.

Yelp
this place was dead empty on a Saturday afternoon around 4pm. Bad sign? Well it's not due to the service, food, speed, etc. They hit all those marks perfectly. There should be a line out the door. We will be back--great place to eat lunch/dinner before or after a movie at The Avalon.
google avatar

Jeff P.

Yelp
Great sandwiches! The food is always fresh made and it's quick. I prefer the nobandeer.
google avatar

Arya S.

Yelp
I got the Norbadeer--Thanksgiving style sandwich (turkey, cranberry sauce, mayonaise, on sourdough bread that is not toasted. Sandwich was good, but not something I would crave. I think Earl of Sandwich does a better job of it. I also think the price point (~$9) is a little much.
google avatar

Kevin G.

Yelp
Clean space, friendly staff, and great food. Conveniently located if you're entering/exiting the District between 11-7 daily.

Maeve O.

Yelp
Look their sandwiches are good... really good. But overpriced. Their service is so bad as well. I was the only person in the store ordered my sandwich and watched them continue to fill out online orders for 15 mins before starting mine. The price is too high. And the service is too bad. Not to mention the person that owns it is a bad person.
google avatar

Rick G.

Yelp
First time there and I had the Thanksgiving turkey sandwich called the Nobadeer. Turkey stuffing cranberry on sour dough. Outstanding. I'll be back.
google avatar

K T.

Yelp
The freshest salads. Always consistent. Service is fast and polite. You can get in and out in under 5 minutes. The salads are hearty and can be lunch and dinner. I've only had one or two of their sandwiches- both were good but all of the salad choices were excellent. Cash is not accepted for safety reasons, so bring a credit or debit card.

Anthony C.

Yelp
I don't know what experience other are having but I was greeted by a very friendly young lady and had an excellent turkey sandwich! Little pricey and they don't take cash or they'd get 5 stars!
google avatar

Sarah S.

Yelp
I have been eagerly awaiting the opening of this new location of Jetties, and my first try tonight did NOT disappoint! I had the Pocomo, but swapped goat cheese for havarti (I'm not a goat cheese fan; what can I say?) It had roasted butternut squash and portabello mushrooms and was on a toasted multi-grain bread that was so yummy. It was DELICIOUS. The ingredients are clearly fresh, they're tasty, and it was a pretty original pairing (I'm not a vegetarian, but sandwiches like these make me think I could be...) I also appreciate that they are open til 9 pm on Sunday nights...it's nice to have places to get a later dinner around Chevy Chase!
