Jiāonest - Review - Dalston - London - The Infatuation

"Jiāonest is a Chinese restaurant in Dalston that appears to be the answer to miserable nights when the electric blanket doesn’t even touch the sides. It’s Chongqing-inspired and serves dishes like duck rice toast, slow-braised short ribs, and mushroom with jiggly pork belly." - Sinéad Cranna

Well done Jiaonest! The food was absolutely delicious, every dish packed with flavour and clearly made with care. The space is cosy and welcoming, perfect for lingering over a meal with friends. They also have a really thoughtful wine list that pairs beautifully with the food. Service was attentive and friendly without ever being overbearing. A restaurant that I’d happily come back to again and again x

I’ve always struggled to find a truly good, authentic Chinese restaurant in London. Most places are okay, but not quite something I’d rave about to my friends. Finally, Jiāonest. Every bite takes me straight home. What more could you ask for? It’s also a great spot for a date or catching up with friends — nice vibe, delicious food, and friendly people. Absolutely worth a visit, and I’ll definitely recommend it to my friends.

A really cute restaurant. So much love, care, stories and memories went in to the design of chairs, tables, food and menus. Had a really nice time enjoying food here with my friends.

the restaurant blends authentic Chongqing flavors with fresh herbs in such a creative way. I never thought herbs could elevate the taste of food like this, especially in the ribs — absolutely delicious!

Since Jiaōnest is still quite new we thought it might be more fair to give direct feedback than to post publicly but unfortunately the email address on the website is incorrect and non functional so I’ll have to post it here. We were quite excited to try your restaurant after seeing the menu but are sad to say we left disappointed. We ordered ceviche, duck toast and fried chicken to start, followed by the mama ribs and mapo tofu with rice and the pickled daikon. The ceviche was really great. The duck toast was a fun idea and the pickles were great, but we felt that everything was really lacking in flavour and depth. The few veggies with the ribs had great flavour but despite that the ribs themselves were very bland. The broth with the ribs could have been reduced for quite some time more to really hit. The fried chicken itself lacked flavour and seasoning - to be honest, the only tasty part of that dish was the peanuts. We were warned by the staff that the mapo tofu would be spicy but were left very underwhelmed by the depth of flavour and the spice levels. The rice side arrived 15 minutes after the main dishes. Good luck with the restaurant, we really like the concept, but for the price point it’s not there yet.

Amazing food with beautiful hand crafted tableware and furniture. Personal favorite is the flower mushroom with pork belly!

Really liked this place. The food was comforting and became more and more addictive with every bite. It all came out piping hot which we loved, too. The house salad was our favourite, but everything was delicious. They also had a lot of wines to have by the glass which was nice. Also, it really feels like a passion project. The staff were really nice and welcoming! The shared tables surprised us, but it wasn’t that bad! Of course we’d prefer a table of 2.

Authentic Sichuan style with a contemporary twist. Glad they do not hold back on the spice levels, had me sweating! 🥵
