"Jidori is selling a selection of yakitori to cook at home including thigh and spring onion skewers, tsukune (minced chicken), and teriyaki thighs along with sides, dressings, beers and, happily, some sustainable charcoal and firelighters aid diners in cooking everything to a tee. Boxes must be pre-ordered for delivery, and frozen yuzu margaritas are an attractive add on." - Helen Graves

Loved it here. It's clean and the place is relaxed and friendly. There were babies there with their dalston yummy mummies, so be warned if that bothers you. I had the £10 lunch of salmon sashimi don and an iced green latte. Both really good. There was a raw egg yolk in the dish, which scared me a bit but worked well with the rice. As well, there's a specials board. I'd try something new next time - hope it's soon.

You know I love a scotch egg and was excited to try the katsu one at Jidori... But felt a bit cheated that the katsu was just a side sauce. The egg was actually really nice though. Wheelchair access ✔️

Yakitori restaurant. The highlights were the tsukune and the katsu scotch egg. Truly exceptional. Chilli cucumber is also excellent - fresh with a little kick. The tebasaki and negima was a bit too fatty for my liking. The housemade pickles were also a disappointment. Looking forward to returning.

It's hard for me to recommend this place... so I won't. The food was average at best. Definitely not worth the price. The omakase had a set of things, all a bit lacking in flavour, salt and umami. The wings were soggy, and the rice wasn't great. The vegetables in the beginning were incredibly bland. The vibe was also super busy (uncomfortable) and the staff were a bit short. However, the tsukemono were delicious. Definitely the highlight.

Really cool and authentic Japanese street food spot. Favorites were the beef tataki and the shitake skewers. The margaritas were very tasty too! Only giving 4 stars because service was a little slow and they ran out of the aubergine miso skewers by the time someone got to us. Will have to try them next time! Other than that definitely recommend.

Really wanted to try that place and I was disappointed! Food is OK, but portions are really small and prices are up. Definitely try the scotch egg and the salmon. Great cocktails as well.

Good service and even better food. Top notch spot and great atmosphere. Highly recommended early on a weekday if you want it nice and quiet.

Ordered the pork tonkatsu don for lunch and the quality of which was a surprise. Deep fried pork Liam was tender with the Japanese yuzu sauce. Together with a runny egg, nori, spinach and kimchi, it was a good lunch. However not a 5 star because of consistency. Went there a few times before and quality does fluctuate nevertheless. At times chicken katsu was over cooked and burnt. Keep the good work!

Yelp
Wanted to try this yakitori place for a long time and it was really good. The only down point was he thigh skewers from the tasting platter it was very salty but every thing else was super tasty. We shared all the dishes: we had all of the specials. Purple broccoli tempura which had an amazing wild garlic and tofu puree (a must order if available), tempura white asparagus (good but nothing special) and the salmon belly ( very good I recommend this one too). We also share the tomehawk pork chop tonkatsu style. A great one to share as was the tasting platter which has a selection of Jidori chicken (chicken skewers) with pickled vegetable (those were sooo good) and the platter comes with a side of rice and an onsen egg to mix and pour onto the rice (really loved that part). Overall aside from one of the skewers hiccup, the food is delicious and creative. I would gladly comeback and try more!!! I will actually try their new venue in Covent Garden

Yelp
Jidori, Dalston (published 5th March 2016) Jidori, Dalston - Jidori was fresh - to the restaurant scene in Dalston, as they had just opened in December 2015 - and bright. The good lighting condition meant that we could read the menu properly but the bonus came in photographing food. In any case, Jidori needed that lighting. Because without an obvious front sign, it was quite tricky to find. You would want to look out for an eatery with a mixture of white to cream coloured interior of stools and bar seat. And of course, the obvious bar area. Jidori prides themselves on their poultry (Jidori is a special breed of free-range chicken) hence the menu has a spectrum of chicken dishes from eggs, breast, thighs to parson's nose! Yup, you read it right; even parson's nose! Dishes were priced in the range of £3.00 - £6.00, so expect tapas like portions. The distinction of starters to the yakitoris (skewer food) was mainly because Jidori specialises in skewer food. It adopts the casual and free style of serving food as and when it was ready. Jidori is perfectly good as a casual midweek dinner. Larger groups are also welcomed but an odd number of people would make it difficult to split the dishes evenly. We didn't book a table, taking for granted that as it was midweek there would be no problem, and we were early. The evening turned out to be busy but not packed so it had a good buzz. It is not everyday that I let someone else take full authority in ordering but with Tamsin, being a food devotee and enthusiast I knew I would be in good hands. I did silently pray she was going to save some room for dessert. And, she did, good girl! The easy part of the dessert was that there was only one choice.

Yelp
I went to the branch in Covent Garden with a friend. When you walk in the door, you're immediately greeted by the smell of fresh paint, so I assume they finished decorating that day... We started with tebasaki, nasu, mune and soba noodles. Considering it's yakitori, one would expect it to be quick. But we waited nearly 30 minutes for a couple of sticks to come out. The nasu was delish, the lemon with the tebasaki was great as it gave that extra flavour when we squirted it over and the mune was pretty good too along with the noodle soup. However we were still hungry, so ordered the katsu curry scotch egg. Didn't have to wait long this time. The egg was soft boiled and I think the scotch egg could have been served alone, it was so good (no need for katsu curry to dip in). Still hungry, so ordered another round of nasu. I love miso aubergine. Overall, the food is good but expensive for what it is. Service was quite slow and the wine was terrible.

Yelp
Not traditional but the dishes were tastebud-friendly. The spot specialises in Yakitori and small dishes. Clean, sleek, delicious. Start with the chilled udon, which sets the scene for the rest of your meal: aubergine, minced chicken, oyster mushroom on bbq sticks. Take a mid-meal break with large pieces of fried chicken, followed by the Katsu scotch egg. End with the ginger ice cream with sweet potato crisps. Basically, order it all. And eat everything. Then, go home, wondering how your eating habits betrayed you from ordering cocktails. Next time.

Yelp
We really liked the service in here, they were all really friendly and helpful and the atmosphere is great. We ordered lots of the dishes and about 50% of them were good, the other 50% pretty average. The minced chicken and egg skewers were best and the pickle plate and scotch egg too. We'll know what to order next time and give the other things a miss.

Yelp
What a superb place. Utterly loved the cocktails and selection of robata grilled items. If you're looking for good Japanese right in the thick of things, look no further. Extremely friendly service too.

Yelp
This place is basically a Japanese tapas restaurant. The menu is small and simple with chicken and veg the only things on offer. Dishes are priced between £3-6 and are all pretty small. All of the dishes were quite plain but for what they were perfectly tasty. A standout dish was the katsu scotch egg. It was very busy and the service suffered as a result, but all the waitresses were very friendly. Good for a quick bite amongst Dalston's hipster elite!

Yelp
I had a nice time here. The staff made a big play of an egg cooked at a low temperature for longer thtat you coudl pour onot your rice - but it just seemed a bit bland to me! Much better were the chicken skewers. I found the menu a bit confusing but the staff are very friendly and will talk you through it. And make sure you get a scotch egg - they were delicious!
