I'm from Memphis, so I know my BBQ. The thing is, I haven't lived in Memphis since 1997, so I've searched for good BBQ in many states -- Pennsylvania, Connecticut, Georgia, California and even middle Tennessee! You'd think that BBQ in Nashville, Tennessee, not even 200 miles from Memphis would be as good. I'm here to tell you it isn't. I've tried Martin's - weird sauces and the meat tastes like lighter fluid every time and Corky's (which is fantastic in Memphis) in Brentwood is just not even half as good as what you'd get at their Memphis branches, and I've sampled many other lesser known local joints. I'd about given up until last night.
On a whim and not wanting to cook after holiday shopping, I hit up Jim 'N Nick's drive- thru for a family pack. AMAZING! The meat was just right and had a fabulous taste, the sauce was just the right flavor and the slaw was heavenly (if there's not slaw on your BBQ sandwich, you don't know what you're doing). It had the perfect amount of mayo and vinegar in it -- it sat correctly atop the pork without being runny. And I didn't have to tell them "no pickles" -- that's a weird thing for a Memphian, to have pickles on their BBQ! Maybe if your slaw is lousy, you throw pickles on it, but like I said, Jim 'N Nick's coleslaw was just perfection. I almost forgot -- their baked beans were delish! Just the right amount of spice and heat. Yum!
And it wasn't just me saying this -- my husband and son were saying, "Somebody knows what they're doing!" We are so pleased to have found Jim 'N Nick's and we will definitely be back for more sandwiches and can't wait to try their ribs! If you want fantastic BBQ, this is the place!
