Jimbo's - Escondido

Google
We have been coming to Jimbo’s every weekend for 3.5 years. One of our most important values as a family is to have our food sourced to the highest quality and health. Today no place is perfect but Jimbos is the next best thing to knowing your farmer or growing your own food for every item. My kids love to come here every weekend. And their team welcomes us with open arms every time.

I am so grateful for Jimbo's. I shop mostly at Escondido store. I love the quality of the food that is prepared for us customers. Organic food made fresh without the other ingredients that are scientificly made and added to foods. Thank you so much! I often purchase lunch, fresh snacks and shop at Jimbo's. Friendly staff and I greet them by name, they are genuine people. Thank you so much Deli Team: Eileen, Carlos, Mark (juice bar), Ryan, Matt, Teresa, Antonio, and the rest of the team. Cashiers: Haidy, Noe, Maggie, Saul, Juan, Christiana, Bird, and the rest of the team, Overall team: David, Jaime, Jared and rest of the team, Meat: Otis and rest of the team. Personal Products team and produce Team, I appreciate you all because you make my store visit a pleasant one. Also, I can't forget Michelle (Deli and I am not sure she retired yet, I no longer work in Carmel Mountain gor over a year) and Jaime (overall) at the 4S Ranch location. Thank you so much.

Google
Jimbo’s is hands down one of my favorite grocery stores! It truly stands out from others with its exceptional quality and unique offerings. The selection is amazing, and I can always count on finding fresh, high-quality products every time I shop. Their produce is consistently fresh, and the variety they offer is impressive. And when it comes to meats, I won’t buy filet mignon anywhere else—Jimbo’s is the best for that. If you’re looking for a grocery store that takes quality and freshness seriously, Jimbo’s is the place to go. Highly recommend!

Google
Conveniently located off of the 15. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables. They usually have great vegan and vegetarian options in their deli

Google
Quality fresh foods! Great selection of the gluten free baked goods. Expansive and interesting selection of cheeses.

Google
My brother and I go here almost every day to get food or do our shopping. Very nice people, high-quality produce, and yummy food.

Google
I went in today for some muffins the lemon-blueberry was good but the bran blueberry was not cooked through it was very mushy and chewy I had to throw it away. My daughter ordered their mango smoothie and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and welcoming.

Google
Beautiful store, amazing selection with quality foods. I have found flavors of kumbucha i haven't seen anywhere. When i need something very specific i can find it there

Yelp
Really healthy sandwich stop veggie wrap to the pesto mushroom . Organic don't panic . Having food restrictions there are plenty of options here. They have refrigerated drinks n snacks for a lunch stop. Also the organic herbs n supplements they offer has helped me through many stages. Faces are always friendly to help. Smaller cozy market but plenty of options for your needs. Recommend children's meds here.

Yelp
Love this grocery store! I shop here several times a week. They have the freshest produce and healthiest products. Today after going through the check out line, my husband, and I realized that we didn't bring any payment method! One of the employees actually offered to pay for our groceries and allowed us to Venmo her for reimbursement. It was so kind and reminded me of why shopping at small, local businesses is so important and enjoyable. Thank you to Maggie! You made my day!
google avatar

Lisa L.

Yelp
Produce is fantastic when they get things in season, meat department is great also juice department staff is so rude and take their anger out on customers I stopped buying there smoothies they always seemed pisst off I ordered one on their menu.
google avatar

Gabe J.

Yelp
Great selection of produce, organic and healthy options. Great juice bar, salad bar and gift items. Service, always professional and friendly Ambiance: Organized, clean and welcoming

Yelp
I love Jimbo's! The quality here is always outstanding, and I appreciate how many local products they carry. Their ready-made foods -- from sandwiches and salads to the chicken -- are absolutely delicious. The seafood and meat are consistently top-notch, and the staff is friendly and enthusiastic. Truly one of my favorite grocery stores in San Diego, if not my very favorite.

Yelp
Jimbo's is a version of Whole Foods without any discounts (I.e., Amazon Prime). We shop for organic and local produce whenever possible. We are used to high prices and this is in Carlsbad, so it's to be expected. I jut think there are more affordable options and places to shop - and the vibe here is a little snooty and not as polished as a Whole Foods IMHO.

Sara B.

Yelp
We've gone to Jimbos a total of 3 times twice to Escondido once to the one in 4S ranch. 4S ranch the cashiers seemed to be happy and at least were nice. The Escondido location however, every cashier seems to be up their butts about something when it comes to their customers. They are nice to their co workers but God forbid a customer asks for something, they respond aggressively or ignore you entirely. If Jimbo's wants business they need to train their cashiers to be more friendly. It definitely is a deterent.
google avatar

Yelp
Jimbo's is one of my absolute favorite health, food stores of all time. I really like the Escondido location because of how the store is organized. It's very well stocked as well. Some of the other stores have more to offer but this location still has a great salad and soup bar, and lots of really good offerings from the deli counter/deli case. Jimbo's is definitely a great place to grab lunch, organic juices, smoothies, baked goods, and coffee.
google avatar

Sunshine L.

Yelp
Prices are high, but they have a good selection of locally grown organic produce. They had a good selection of high end meat too. Place seemed clean and organized. Customer service was okay, but checkout could have been faster, I didn't like having to wait for employees to finish chit chatting and socializing while I stood waiting.
google avatar

Gina M.

Yelp
Check out the new sandwich menu! Carlos and Eileen in the deli are the best! Love jimbos

Yelp
As a frequent shopper of Jimbo's, I am continuously impressed with the integrity of the business and quality of store goods. The produce is consistently fresh and local, the atmosphere is cleanly and easy to navigate, & the wholesome partnerships intentionally selected across the storefront, are why I remain a weekly shopper. In the last half year, the customer service has improved. Unfortunately have never been impressed by the clerks at this specific location, as the quality of service is less than memorable. It's felt dry, lacking in connection, and clearly just a job. Additionally - as I speak for many, would love to see some kind of loyalty program implemented. It's a stretch for the average household to afford this quality of experience, and those that prioritize our health, strive to continue to support small businesses wherever we can.

mrs L.

Yelp
Beware - just at Jimbo's on Centre City Pkwy and the Bakery cabinet had a fly trapped inside it. What's worse is when I tapped on the glass, a flurry of baby flies (size of gnats) swarmed up out of the baked goods - when I pointed it out with alarm to the attendant, he didn't seem too bothered by it. Continued slicing fruit for the smoothie counter. Totally disgusting.

Yelp
We love this store for the most part. I dont know WHO is in charge of quality control but they are consistently incompetent when it comes to rotating product and discarding or donating (whatever they need to do!! for EXPIRED FOOD!) They are overpriced for the most part- but we are willing to pay what my husband calls the Jimbos Tax for convenience and organic local quality. I cant tell you how many times tho we get back home (35 minutes drive) only to find the chocolate milk is expired, the sour cream expired etc. I try and ALWAYS check labels but my other half is always rushed and it cant always happen needless to say that is not our JOB. I've had it with chicken that stinks and obviously was past due date when sold to us and milk that is sour etc. Get your quality up to meet your overpriced food JIMBOS!!!
google avatar

Jessi E.

Yelp
This is my standard go-to for organic groceries in Escondido. I love their selection of Asian foods and even organic sushi in the deli area! They have a good section of produce and don't use Apeel in their overhead produce spray. They're also very selective on who they partner with and all of the products that go on the shelves. I love saying hi to Otis in the butchery, it's always good to see regulars!

Kassidee S.

Yelp
Customer service is seriously lacking, almost every single time I go in there. I can count on my hand the couple of very rare occasions that the cashiers are actually friendly. It is such a deterrent, I've found myself choosing other health food store options whenever possible. Like a "hello" "have a good day" or even just a slight smile wouldn't kill them.... And the worst part is when they're being friendly with other employees, but then just turn back to the customer with resting bitch face not saying a word, rude.
google avatar

Alex D.

Yelp
Good place for more healthy food choices, but wow it is expensive here. My favorite section is the fresh foods and desserts. So many vegan options!

Yelp
I often go to Jimbo's for lunch. Their food are delicious and healthy. I highly recommend to go there around 11:00 for lunch because hot food came out around that time. The longer hot food sit on the warmer, the dryer they get. It makes a huge difference for the taste and texture. They sometimes have extraordinary fruits. The mango they got from Florida during fall/winter was life-changing. (No kidding). It was so juicy, flavorful and it had smooth texture. I probably purchased 5 pieces each week during the season. Later on, they had some delicious tangerine. I normally didn't care for tangerine. But theirs were different. Very juicy. I kept eating one after another. They had kiwi berry for a while. I was so happy that I discovered kiwi berry. I love dairy products from STRAUS. Jimbo's carries the majority of their products. I like they sell things from local and small farm. Please keep finding unique, delicious and healthy produce for us.

Barbara S.

Yelp
Great produce, excillent vitamin selection! I love trying new things that are better for you. Faboulous experience checking out. Maggie helped me out, she is amazing!! Thank you for the best possible experience. Jimbos you are doing a great job.
google avatar

David N.

Yelp
A fantastic grocery store! Excellent produce and meats along with plenty of fresh prepared food and a great salad bar.
google avatar

Jenn S.

Yelp
Love this place. Yes it's pricey, but you are getting farmers market quality produce all week long. The service at this location is always great and they are always willing to help. If they can't answer your question, they will find someone who can. Love the fresh meats in the back as well. It never feels horribly busy and congested in there either. They are able to keep a calm environment, be busy, but still make you feel like you are getting this unique shopping experience. They have water refills there as well, where you can fill your gallon+ bottles or jugs. Love that it's a San Diego company that works with local farmers!!!

daniel f.

Yelp
Just stopped by Jimbos today and was assisted by Maggie. She gave the best service today and gabe my kids some awesome disney stickers. Thanks Maggie!

Hanna A.

Yelp
Amazing selection of "healthy" and organic options but the deli area people are not very friendly or nice. The fresh baked goods area had good peanut butter cookies last time I went and this time had about 10 flies inside of it. Super gross. This was my second and last time coming here. People are not friendly who work here and we also got sick last time we ate the deli but I still went again to give them another try. Super sad since I love the concept of the store but I'll just be going to sprouts.

Yelp
This place is so delicious and fresh. Every time I come here it's so fresh and clean and many healthy options to chose when it comes to lunch snacks and desserts!! Noe at the front cashier is amazing, nice and welcoming. Thanks Noe for all your hard work and smile every time we come!
google avatar

Sheeva T.

Yelp
My go to for the best organic/gluten free bakery, deli sandwiches, fresh quality meat and foods!! The zucchini muffin is my absolute favorite. The sandwiches are quality and delicious!! They also have a gorgeous salad bar.
google avatar

Marlene S.

Yelp
I called the store asking for stinging nettles and a couple of people did not know if they had it. (I was thinking in my mind, uh maybe figure it out in case another customer asks) But thankfully an extremely hardworking nice employee named Debra Villa got on the phone and she went out of her way to help me!!! She told me exactly where it is located. I was so thrilled that she took the time to find out the answer for me and she was pretty quick getting back to me. I think she is a new employee too!
google avatar

k i.

Yelp
Best saladBar...love the setup....love how easy it is....easy to get everything to go...thanks Jimbo

Autum R.

Yelp
Ordered a gluten free sandwich at the deli. I told them I have a severe allergy, I am Celiac. 10 minutes after eating the sandwich I had a horrible reaction. Don't claim something is gluten free when it's not. Ruined the rest of my day. will stick to Sprouts Deli

Fayth F.

Yelp
Excellent customer service friendly people that work there I go there regularly and have never really had a problem. Food is always fresh and even though it's super expensive it's worth it. Excellent juice bar, smoothies, and prepared foods as well as produce, salad bar, and homemade soup Love this place will continue going there
google avatar

Yelp
I wanted to update my review to say that the meat department provides exceptional service and go above and beyond to help the customers. They are awesome!
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
What appears to be a simple health food store really packs a big punch once you walk inside. Their deli and juice bar are phenomenal, the staff is great, and their selection is top notch. I always find something new with the wide array of brands they carry but I always feel good leaving knowing I found all the best options. I've become a regular here for the lone star sandwich (pictured) but have found myself browsing every aisle to find the childish giddy parts of myself getting excited to try something new!
google avatar

Yelp
I have been a fan of Jimbo's since they were just a little hole in the wall in North Park 30+ years ago... They are definitely a bit pricey. But the quality and selection are pretty amazing. And the employees are always so helpful! Last week I was looking for some bulk herbs I used to get in Ocean Beach. I wanted to try somewhere in North County and a couple people suggested Jimbo's. They had an awesome bulk herb selection and I was able to get 3 out of 4 herbs I needed - and the 4th wasn't critical. I'm a fan! I didn't have much time to peruse the store during my last visit, but given how convenient it is as far as being near Trader Joe's, Major Market, Smart & Final -- it's worth a bit of a drive to Escondido to have so many good places near each other.

Sarah J.

Yelp
If there's a store in Esco that I can't live without, it's Jimbos! The quality of my food is what matters to me most, and so I am extremely happy to have a Jimbos nearby. Their produce is the best around by far, and their bakery and fresh juice is amazing! If you're looking for high quality meat, go to Jimbos! Anytime I want to find a vitamin or supplement, they have it in stock! Also, if you haven't tried their fresh guacamole, you're missing out!

Ursula E.

Yelp
This is a review JUST for the smoothie/juice bar. The employee working there who makes the smoothies needs to be trained in proper food handling. He began making our smoothies with no gloves and was touching the blender, sinks, handles, drawers, and raw fruit and veggies. We asked him to stop and remake our smoothies with gloves on and then proceeded to do the exact same things with gloves on and touching EVERYTHING including the raw fruits and veggies. You would think after Covid people had some more sense about these things and I know CA has strict food handling requirements which include having to pass a test to get a food handlers card. This smoothie/juice bar, while it offers lots of organic options, will probably come with a side of food poisoning.
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
Great place to get healthier baked goods, including gluten free or vegan. Probably the best specialty bakery in Escondido, with totally awesome scones and cakes. I don't mind gluten free or vegan, as long as it tastes good. Another favorite of mine is the fact that they carry Charlie's Best Breads. I don't really get to PB much anymore to go to the real Charlie's, but you can get a small assortment of their best sellers at Jimbo's. My Mom's favorite is the raisin challah, and mine is the Oregon Herb. There are some really delicious items from the deli. The real egg salad is great, and not heavy on the mayo (just don't get the stuffed eggs, they're horrible!). The rice pudding and potato salad are also very good. I haven't tried the lunchmeat or sandwiches. One warning: those cardboard trays they use allow the food to dry out, so transfer the food to your own containers as soon as you get home). They also have a great selection of chips and chocolate (they're located near each other in the store, so please forgive my reasoning). One of the best selection of unusual tortilla chips around, including the ever amazing Have'a Chip, which are made by Hare Krishnas here in SoCal (peace, love, light!). Good selection of GF pastas, organic produce, vitamins, and alternative cheeses & milks. They can sometimes special order things for you, so just ask!
google avatar

Tara V.

Yelp
We love Jimbo's!! Fresh, local produce, an excellent deli and delicious salad bar! The staff is consistently friendly and there are frequently samples at this store - very fun to try new products.
google avatar

Emma O.

Yelp
honestly i LOVE this place I was in Escondido for the day and needed a healthy quick lunch-- and this place seemed like the perfect stop for lots of options....now lemme tell you, this is a gluten free (and dairy free) HEAVEN. The deli serves the most delicious gluten free bread i've ever had, not to mention the fact that their overall sandwiches are 10/10. the bakery has many GF options as well as vegan + GF items to satisfy both dairy free and gluten free individuals such as myself. You can't even tell that these baked goods are gf or df! so delicious. and on top of that the staff are so friendly and helpful. will definitely be stopping by here again if i'm in the area! ps they have a wide variety of gf / vegan options in their pre made refrigerated sections; this health store has a big focus on organic / gf / vegan options so if you have dietary restrictions this is the place for you!
google avatar

Arin M.

Yelp
The only place in North County for real fresh organic locally sourced produce. The smoothie bar is a big bonus

Janice R.

Yelp
I was in the vitamin department today at Jimbo's in Escondido & this very helpful employee, whose name is Debra, helped me out. She was thoroughly knowledgeable & she went out of her way to point out different products that I was interested in. I met her one other time & she's quite personable. I believe she is new to Jimbo's & I was very impressed with all she knew. I hope she stays on at Jimbo's, as I think she's a real asset to the vitamin department.
google avatar

Yesenia A.

Yelp
It's a pretty pricey grocery store but it's full of super nutritious and healthy food so that is to be expected. Everyone is nice and helpful and the food sold here is amazing! I got a veggie sandwich and it seemed a little pricey to me for just veggies but I really enjoyed it

Brady L.

Yelp
Excellent choice of organic products. Prices are obviously higher, however, the quality of food is also much higher. I recommend the store to my family and close friends.
google avatar

Casey B.

Yelp
This location is my favorite! All the employees are very kind. The produce is really fresh and always organic.
google avatar

Garrett F.

Yelp
I love this grocery store! Sebastian is the man! I've been coming here for years and he is one of the main reasons that continue to keep coming. He does such an amazing job on the sandwiches and things he makes in the back it's hard to find better service or flavor for that matter. The organic grocery selection is huge! I believe 98% of everything in the store is organic. Hands down our favorite grocery store. Side note: things are typically pretty respectably priced here but there are a few things here and there that cost more than your typical grocery store.
google avatar

Angenette M.

Yelp
I love this place for lunch. I only have one complaint. The last two time I ordered the very veggie sandwich I have ended up with a bug in my sandwich. Maybe organic isn't the best choice for me
google avatar

Thomas O.

Yelp
I guess I better get the statement out of the way, that this place is not inexpensive! I guess that's to be expected, given the selection of organic and otherwise high end products. You can certainly eat for a lot less money at the big chains, no question, especially if you are a savvy shopper, clip coupons, etc. That said, the quality of the products, and the service at Jimbo's has always been excellent, if not outstanding. Lots of locally sourced produce, including these amazing oranges I've been back for three or 4 times now! I don't eat nearly enough fruit, but I might be starting to catch back up! I have yet to encounter an employee that not only wasn't able to answer a question promptly, but also didn't do so cheerfully and thoughtfully. OK, double-negative might be a little confusing here.. Everyone has given absolutely great service. The meats I've had have all been really good, the pre-made dishes are excellent, and the vitamin department is very well stocked. One slight negative, and it wasn't enough to lose a star. I ordered a smoothie/juice thing from the juice bar, and got sticker shock at the price for the little size of the thing. A large at Robeks is less expensive, and about 3 times the size. And the real kicker.. Yes, I know paper straws are fashionable, and it's probably a crime to serve plastic straws anymore, but this paper straw was SO bad, it turned into complete mush within 10 minutes or so. So much so that the plastic points in the lid, where you push the straw through, ended up piercing the straw, rendering it completely useless before I was halfway finished with the smoothie. For a 10 dollar 12 ounce drink, I'd expect a better experience. In summary, I wish I could afford to do all of my shopping here, but I will still come in as much as I can. Especially for those oranges!
google avatar

Jen C.

Yelp
Customer service is awful. Went to the counter in the center of the store for help but the gal there could not be bothered. Too busy chatting with her friend to notice first my husband standing in front of her and then both of us. Food is overpriced. Go to Sprouts down the street.
google avatar

Joe A.

Yelp
It has taken me a few years to write this review. The reason I say this is because I have been holding out hope that Jimbo's and their produce policies would change. Over the years I shopped at the Del Mar, 4S Ranch and Escondido stores and I see a repeating pattern of low quality produce. To charge customers a premium to get 100% organic and non-GMO is one thing but that is no excuse to sell sub-par quality at those extreme prices. So, this morning I went to Jimbo's to do our weekly shopping trip and of course, I see exactly the same old (bad) cucumbers sitting in the cooler that I saw a week ago (see picture). This is just the beginning. Last week, I went to grab green beans out of the cooler and ended up grabbing a handful of slimy beans. You see, they don't rotate their stock as they should. The fresher stuff was on top of the old and slimy stuff at the bottom. They obviously don't employ basic food rotation practice at their stores: first in, first out. It goes on. I shouldn't have to spend 10 minutes examining all of the berries in a container because you've been burned so many times. This is unacceptable. The practice extends to the deli area as well. I can't tell you how many times I've seen mold on the falafels. I bought some from the 4S Ranch store, brought them home and then was super disappointed. From that point on, whenever I wanted falafels, I would check them first. Every time I did, they were moldy. I've witnessed these practices and sub-par produce at all three of the stores I've mentioned. Since it is a pattern, I will extrapolate that this is due to top-down management decisions in order to maximize profits from already inflated prices. I think Mr. Jimbo should be embarrassed if he wasn't embarrassed enough by the rat infestation in his Del Mar store a few month back. If you don't believe me, contact the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health. If only Whole Foods was closer to my home, I would be shopping there exclusively.

Yelp
I come here almost daily for there kombucha. This is where I go to be healthy. Everything is organic with no GMOs or pesticides. So much good healthy stuff to choose from with a great salad bar. With all kinds of hot and cold lunch/dinner options. Full vitamin section as well as regular groceries =) A gem, check it out!! Happy eating!

Laura S.

Yelp
I had been looking forward to checking out Jimbo's (for my first time), and was disappointed. Things were high-priced, without the apparent corresponding quality. The store seemed dingy and was not particularly fun to shop in. Among other things, I bought a bag of peaches - which ended up costing $3.00 each. They were overripe and tasteless. I will not be returning.

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Linda is a vitamin and supplement expert! She is knowledgeable, and asks good questions and makes great recommendations. She's been at this location for years. We've used Jimbos for our grocery, freshest organic veggies and have relied on Linda to help us. Jimbos is an awesome place. David, our drive up and go guy treats us like family. Linda, your expertise is very much appreciated.
