I love Jimmy Buff's food still good owner cooks. Been eating here a long time. Used to read the meters here in 2017 and ate lunch here.

I’ve lived in WO over 10yrs and this was my first time at JB. If you have not visited Jimmy Buff’s of West Orange. I encourage everyone reading this to visit. You must get the Italian Hot Dog. Wow it is AMAZING!!

They really need to give this place a UNESCO historic landmark status. Unlike other "must see" locations... Here the food is fresh, amazing, and every bit as good as it ever was. If you've never had a Jimmy Buffs, you haven't lived.

The other day I got, Jimmy Buff’s West Orange, for lunch. I ordered their Double Combo. It comes with a Hotdog & a Sausage, topped with potatoes (home fries), onions, peppers, condiments, stuffed into a roll. I was absolutely taken aback by the sheer size of the roll. You can comfortably hold it with two hands. I am not a ketchup lover, but I have zero complaints about it being in the sandwich! This meal was absolutely phenomenal. I went there on a Tuesday and had no idea they have specials. If you go on a Tuesday, you get two for the price of one! I was expecting to pay close to $15, but to pay half of that was mind blowing. The food is excellent, and the staff was very attentive. I would absolutely recommend, Jimmy Buff’s West Orange, to anyone in the West Orange area looking for some classic, Italian style, comfort food!

I relocated to SWFL a long time ago. I miss the jimmy Buffs in Irvington on Springfield Ave. I’m dating myself! The BEST Italian hot dog and sausage sandwiches. Please open one in Fort Myers, FL! You’ll make a killing! Cape Coral, FL, too! Yum.

Still a great Italian Hot Dog! Stopped in Saturday and enjoyed a double. Packed full of potatoes, onions and peppers, smothering 2 tasty hot dogs. Always a treat and great employees

Its the traditional look small dine in for a few seconds if you like. You stand and wait for your order. But the food is still good and the original owner son has the location running now. And still good tasting sandwiches I order the Italian cheese burger and double hot dog for my husband. Perfect place to eat lunch or dinner.

Can't be beat, hits the spot every time! Cheap, filling & delicious. I love that they make them right in front of you too.

This place will never get old. Since I was visiting g family, I had to stop by one of my favorite places. There is plenty of parking in their lot. The workers are very friendly and always have a smile on their faces. I ordered a single hotdog with potatoes and onions.

This place has been in my bookmarks for a very long time and I finally made it here! I came for a latish lunch on a Wednesday, so there were no crowds. I don't know anything about the area and coming in from the side I was wondering if the address was correct or the place was even open - it was on both counts. The building is small to the point where if you have trouble parking you might be best returning on a different time or day, that's for sure. Inside, you feel out of place. Where is the menu? A bit off to the left side, and it doesn't tell you much. Okay, a double hot dog. Everything on it? No mustard. That seemed to work. Cash is the only way to get to the eating part of the journey so take that into account too when you visit. The meal is an experience. Those double dogs were buried in a huge piece of bread and covered with the potatoes and everything else it came with. You will eventually get to them and most likely you are going to need that fork it comes served with. The best thing I ever had? No, but again, it's an experience. Even if you don't fall in love with it, you need to fall in love with the fact that it exists.

Have been eating your hot dogs for decades. I live in South Jersey now and have been sick. I ordered on your website for the dogs, well it was horrible, just awful! The bread fell apart, it was dry. Can't tell u how disappointing this was! How can you send food like this! It sucked!!!!

Stop by for a national hotdog day the place was crowded. We didn't mind waiting for these great culinary treats. Service was friendly and courteous. The combo sandwich sausage and hotdogs were fantastic. You gotta give this place a try

Yes please. Double hot dog! This is the best hotdog sandwich ever. Great bread, peppers and onions and topped with a great helping of potatoes. They run specials during the week. Tons of parking and once you have a Jimmy Buffs you will be hooked.

As a lover of Italian sandwiches and a Philadelphian living in the Apple, I dont know how I missed the Italian hot dog until this week. We mase the pilgrimage to the Washington Street location. Plumped for two combos and a single hot dog. Friendly service and in a few minutes sandwiches arrived. The bread reminded me of a boule and gave adequate support to the heavy fillings. The flavor of the hot dog was lost, but the savory sausage shined through. I could have used a bit more of the sautéed peppers and onions. The potatoes were a little too plentiful, but were the best part. Well seasoned and perfectly cooked. I regretted leaving a few behind. Overall an experience I would repeat, but I might try the Kenilworth location for a nicer venue.

JIMMY never disappoints. Had a few guests over who never had it and it was my first time in a long time having the double Italian hot dog. Staff is always friendly. I got extra onions, lots of mustard, that bread held all that goodness up. Also got some extra potatoes. I tore it up! Glad to see that everything was still the same and my guests loved it as well!

I'm not happy . I went to get a hotdog based on a recommendation that the hotdogs are delicious, snapping skin, garlicky,robust flavor, NOT!!! First of all , I waited 45 minutes for "one"double dog sandwich that was greasy, soggy and flavorless. Soggy onions and peppers, greasy potatoes; I couldn't finish it. I'm a New Yorker, used to Coney Island Nathan's hot dogs. If you've ever had a Nathan's hotdog, then you understand my grief.

Since I was halfway here from another visit, my fam decided to take the extra 15min drive on NJ pkwy. First heard about this place on an episode of Man Vs Food on TV. No competition here, but back story was enough to let us try! Exactly as shown! We went with a single everything hot dog and hubby went with cheeseburger with it all! For the hot dog, def go double or ask for extra and go for 3. Everything is cooked in the same fry front so the flavors meld greatly! Single beef hot dog was $7.95 with mustard on quarter piece of bread with peppers, onions and fried round potato slices. Mustard on bottom, ketchup on top. Double would have been better, but that was my mistake. Cash only, but ATM outside and option to scan QR code and order using your credit card and come on in and pick up! Plethora of drinks to choose from! Old school faves like C&C, Yoo-hoo, Joe's variety of teas and my fave- Welch's grape soda! Offers other options like sausage and cheesesteak as well! Patrons were aplenty and they banged out every order quickly! Will definitely return when I'm in the area! Offer specials like free double Tuesdays and birth year Thursday's for doubles! Parents love it! Look up the history behind this joint it's quite interesting

Jimmy Buffs is a greasy spoon but who really cares?! The Italian hot dogs here are AMAZING & that's all that matters! Yes you have to dig through a bunch a bread and potatoes and onions and peppers before you get to the hot dog, but that's what makes it fun to eat! The smell of grease will hit you as soon as you walk in the door, but surprisingly the food was not greasy at all! Everything was tasty and filling and very easy on my wallet! I went in on a Tuesday during lunchtime, and it wasn't busy. I was told that there's sometimes a line out of the door so I was prepared for that. You can call in your order, but I wanted the full experience so I ordered at the counter. The workers were all friendly and a few of them were very funny. A few regulars came in and they were all greeted by name which was impressive! You order and pay at the counter, then the cashier will give you a receipt with a number on it. You then step aside and wait for your number to be called, then grab your bag of goodness and go! There are a few booths but it's extremely small inside and smell of grease is overpowering . For those two reasons, can't imagine eating inside. They have a private parking lot as well as street parking. They accept cash only! There's an ATM outside in front of the restaurant should you need to get cash! I'll be baaack!

I'm simply rating the Italian hot dog--it's perfect. The bread is hearty, yet soft; it absorbs the oil from the peppers, onions and potatoes, which honestly just adds additional goodness. This is a special treat for every now and again--when you have it, it hits. Go get one and post about how delicious it is, the people need to know!

Place was cool. Clearly has history. Kind of looks like a hole in the wall. The wait for my food was longer than expected. The food was decent. Seems like a cheat meal kind of place.

Went to Jimmy Buff's for lunch one afternoon because my dad wanted to try them. I've had their famous Italian hot dogs a few times before, but they're not terribly high on my list of things I crave. It's a deep-fried dog, served on Italian bread with onions, peppers, sliced potatoes, ketchup, and mustard. You can get a single or a double. I got a double which is a half round of Italian bread. It comes with two hot dogs, two sausages, or a combo of the two for a little under $10. It's pretty good, but extremely filling and it can get messy. They don't have fries. I got a side of cheese fries, but it was more of the potatoes in the sandwich covered with cheese (which i liked). It's not bad but not something I find myself craving

Came here after seeing JL Jupiter's video review of this place. We were looking for a place for a quick bite after a visit to the Thomas Edison National Park. It was very walkable from the park, though maybe a bit too far for the elderly. The restaurant had the old timey nostalgic look which I liked. We ordered the double combo sandwich and split among the both of us since we weren't too hungry. The sandwich is definitely hefty comprising of soft potatoes, peppers, and onions, and 1 sausage and 1 hotdog. Not sure if it was normal but the bread tasted stale, the hotdog was a bit too shriveled and the sausage is somewhat dry and also cold in the center. There are too much carb for me in relation to the small amount of meat. However, the potato with the red sauce was excellent and the portion is generous, but I'm not sure if it was worth the $12 and change.

Got hit with a ton of people after we went to Dickee Dee's saying we then needed to go to Jimmy Buff's. Apparently the two are in a secret underworld fight to the death for the best Italian Dog. Knew we'd be in the area and knew we'd be hungry...so why not?! This one is another big boy sandwich right here. A two hander. The kind of sandwich that forces a nap whether you want one or not. We are talking many many calories with no pass go, no collecting $200 on the way to your stomach, and ultimately your heart. This...is delicious. The dog itself was excellent, awesome flavor and good snap to it. At least from what I could tell of course because of it being under a mountain of potatoes, onions, and peppers with ketchup. Before anyone gives me crap about the ketchup, it's how the dog comes, and I trust in the process. I trust that I am getting their signature item and I am rating it against the signature dogs of other locations. The potatoes were fried well and the flavor of the peppers and onions was excellent. All around a really delicious dog. If I lived nearby I'd eat one weekly...so it's a good thing I don't live nearby! That bagel-esque roll was also something else. Really held the sandwich together nicely and had awesome flavor. Jimmy Buff's...you already know - Didn't Suck!

Ive been waiting -bout 25 min for 3 hotdogs. A bit ridiculous. Not lot of people in here either. Apparently they have online orders they are cranking out. There were few people that picked up a rather large order. If its going to be more than 10 min for few hot dogs then I want to be told. That's all I wanted. No communication from the people working here despite me standing in from of them for the whole duration. Like their hotdogs tho. It's a classic. Edit: james - im ok with your place being busy. I just wanted them to say " we have few big online orders ahead of you. It's going to take about xx minutes ".

The best known for Italian hot dogs in New Jersey. As I drove my order home, the smell of the onions & peppers were intoxicating. I almost pulled over to take a bite.

NJ staple. Big portions, good prices. Order online for easy pickup. Def recommend double dog so there's enough hot dog to roll ratio.

Legendary. What is it about NJ and hot dogs? Their classic single and double are gifts from the heavens. So much flavor and an absolute ball to eat. So flavorful. When I'm near Hiram's I go there. Near West Orange and it's Jimmy Buff's. Both different yet so good in their own right. I live in Manhattan and find the lauded Papaya King way overpriced and frankly disgusting. Their dogs are basically tough sodium logs. Much better is Gray's Papaya on 72nd and Broadway... But they aren't even in the same stratosphere as Jimmy Buff's and Hiram's. Nathan's are pretty gross, but their fries are superb. But I'm not making my way to Brooklyn for those. Lest we forget Jimmy Buff's superlative staff...watching them is worth the price of admission. So polite, funny, talented and professional.

The original is still the best! The perfect combination of hot dogs, potatoes, peppers, onions and bread. Quick service is also key.

JB's a great place for some real great Italian hotdogs and sausages with onions, green peppers and seasoned potatoes with mustard and ketchup. Quintessential simplicity. Need I say more. Check this spot out when you have a appetite for some savory hotdogs. And add a drink while you at it.

Here's the deal: 1st visit of this well known place ( I'd call of a Dive! In the most positive way) It's a small place with a few tables taped off due to quarantine. Friendly & helpful guy behind the counter took my order, due to Covid you can wait back outside or in car for order# to be called. I ordered the single combo ( hot dog & sausage w/ mustard/ ketchup onions/ peppers tucked inside of a pizza dough style roll with sliced potatoes on top). The sandwich was hugh.... hot, messy & delicious!!! They also serve burgers & cheese steaks which may be my order next time I visit! ** HINT** CASH ONLY !! ATM outside is needed ** HINT**. You can ask for less/more of condiments on sandwich... it gets messy!!!

I thought I ordered a double hot dog. I may have ordered a double sausage. All I know is I got a double sausage. I was looking forward to trying the hot dog, but that doesn't affect this review. Here's what does: * Things are very dry without ketchup. I asked for mustard, but it was a bare coating on the bread, not a drizzle or dollop like the ketchup would be. * The potatoes are wonderful. Get extra potatoes. It's worth the cost. Forget fries, these are where it's at. * You probably won't get all the flavors in one bite. With the meat at the bottom of the bread and the potatoes on top, you've got a decision to make. The bread won't bend enough for you to rearrange things. * Bread is great bread. Peppers and onions are fresh. No complaints about those. But the meat can get lost in there. This is probably a better experience with ketchup, but I don't LIKE ketchup! That's not the experience I'm looking for! I'm so on the fence between 3 and 4 stars. Deciding factors: * Patient staff * Low cost - need more meat? Order more meat * Old-school classic neighborhood joint So okay, 4 stars for an NJ treasure.

No doubt the hot dogs are good... maybe I just don't like Italian hot dogs. I think there's a lot better cuisine out there. This is not something I would ever eat again. Glad I tried it while in town.

I worked down the street from this location for a couple years. So I use to eat here all the time. Especially on Tuesdays. The food was just as good and had the same taste from years ago. Piping hot and a variety of sodas that bring back memories. Had the single sausage and a cream soda. Outside and inside still has that classic look and that's what makes it vintage. My only knock, they do not accept credit or debit cards. It's 2020, time to come out of the stone ages.

i've heard of this place from a youtuber I watched and he reviewed it. he loved it so I had to stop by, luckily I was in the area for work. I love old school places that are still standing throughout the years, it definitely shows they are doing it right. I got the single hot dog which came with peppers and onions and potatoes on a big roll. Everything was delicious, definitely would come back. service was good too. it's cash only so bring cash. very good spot!

I haven't had an Italian style hotdog in like forever, so when co-workers decided to order lunch from JB I was all in. I even went off my diet for this mess. What. A. LETDOWN! And what a total lack of care with our order. We spent almost $100 and: 1. The sandwiches were barely wrapped and just THROWN in the bags. The paper on one of the sandwiches actually came loose and ketchup was all over the inside of the bag and the other sandwiches. 2. The sandwiches weren't marked, so we had to handle all of the sandwiches just to figure things out (we got mixed sandwiches, so with the potatoes on top it wasn't easy to discern w/o manhandling everything). So basically we all got a side of germs free with each sandwich since everyone had their mitts on things. 3. Speaking of potatoes, you want to talk about OLD and stale tasting, which is surprising because you would think they would be fresh since they supposedly make sandwiches all day long. But, nooo. 4. The hotdog in my sandwich was so shriveled and hard to bite, it reminded me of a Seinfeld episode about a lone hotdog in a case at a movie theater that was spinning around for years. I tried to eat the thing but I couldn't. Totally frustrated and absolutely pissed, I decided nit to blow my diet on the disgusting mess, so I threw the thing out. 5. We didn't get any napkins, forks, or plates, which you typically get. But if JB can't spring for forks and paper plates, not even a damn napkin can you spare? This was my first and, goes without saying, last time at this crap place. While I haven't been to Dickie Dees in Newark in years, I'm told by a friend they're stuff is still solid. He was also surprised that we had such a horrible experience at JB. Well, we did, and it wasn't cheap money-wise, but the experience most certainly was.

Great establishment for its offerings. While a bit dated, it speaks to its history and cultural vibe that's known throughout the community. Service was quick, amicable and welcoming.

I used to eat there when I was a kid and loved it. I joined the military and would only go back home to get my Jimmy Buffs Italian cheeseburger fix. If it wasn't for Jimmy buffs, I probably would never go back to Jersey. Best place in all of jersey

I will start by saying that in this day and age it is difficult to find places that provide excellent customer service, quality products, and great value for the money. I have watched this place on television many times and have wanted to try them out and I was finally able to do that yesterday. I have to say that this place is awesome. Not only was the food great, but the customer service was awesome. From start to finish the staff were helpful, friendly, and made everyone feel like they actually mattered. I know that there are many places to get a hot dog, but this is not just a hotdog. It is a meal consisting of delcious Italian bread, fresh cut potatoes, and of course a hot dog or sausage. I tried both and I only wish that I could visit the place more often to enjoy this delicious meal that is well worth the price and the trip. If you are looking for a great way to spend your hard earned money on a meal then I would highly recommend this place. I hope they never change their attitude or the quality and value of their food. Keep up the great work!!!

I've been getting great food from Jimmy Buffs for a few years now. I have never once been dissatisfied with their quality nor quantity. A single can be split, and two people can be full, a double if you have a larger appetite. I get the Italian sausage with the works and am always pleased with the superior taste. The bread is fresh and delicious with great chewy texture. Superior, to say the least. The sausage is juicy and tasty, with great quality. My son loves the chicken sandwich plain style. He loves the potatoes. My daughter favors the cheese steak because of the bread it's on. My order is always carefully wrapped, and the items come fresh and hot. I'm a huge fan of the chopped onion and pepper on the potatoes, which is a meal in itself. I love their style of potatoes way better than others' home fries versions. We don't eat hotdogs in this house, but if I had to,I'd definitely get it from here.

Oh man.... Got a recommendation to this place and when I pulled in I thought it was closed down. Glad I didn't give up. Had the double Italian wish everything, wow!!!! Two hot dogs, peppers and onions in s pizza bun and... Topped with sliced roasted potatoes.. what can I say except this is lunch. Needed a nap after but that's ok.

Yelp let me down on this one! I understand it's a dive so I'm not basing this review on the ambiance or anything like that, but really I just expected an overall better hot dog experience. It's been on my list for quite awhile and on a random December cold night, decided to try it. We got the double italian hot dog of course. I really found the sandwich to be really sub par compared to other italian hot dogs I've had. The hot dog itself had literally no snap, was soggy and kind of nasty overall. Potatoes were over the top greasy. The saving grace of the sandwich was the bread. They use true pizza bread which is a must when it comes to italian style hot dogs. All of that being said, I'd pass on this one and stick to the other hot dog greats in Northern NJ.

Class act through and through. I was introduced by my mom who grew up in WO and taught me Jimmy Buff is a staple. It's s now a main food group in my life for a good reason. It always hits the spot and will always be there when I need it! I moved from Los Angeles to NJ for this place. Had to make this review as I'm eating, Jimmy Buff's for life!

Have been coming here for many years and not much has changed. If you're looking for healthy food this is definitely not your spot. They have a few locations and have been in business for many many years and serve up some of the best hot dogs around. If you've never tried I would highly recommend. Go to Jimmy buffs and not any of the knockoffs.

The BEST hot dog spot in the state hands down!!! Great hotdogs!! The originator of the Italian hotdogs, beef hotdogs on what appears to be rolls made from pizza dough, topped with onions peppers and French fries!! My mouth is watering just by describing it. Whenever I'm in NJ I try not to leave without grabbing at least one for the road!! They have burgers & sausages as well & they are all great!!

Just a good Italian hot dog, nothing more nothing less. I do think the owners comments do indicate that he's somewhat thin-skinned, egotistical. No, don't apologize for being busy, apologize for employees not communicating with customers. And after seeing owners response to this comment, I was obviously right about him. Thin-skinned, egotistical.

My father took me to Jimmy Buff's on Rt 22 as a kid. 30 years later im still eating it. Freshly cooked, well seasoned food yet simple. Never a miss at JB's.

Common foods in an unusual combination, the $5 single is a quarter loaf of round Italian bread, a deep-fried dog, onions peppers ketchup and mustard then piled with perfectly fried potato slices. Like sausage and peppers, but not with Italian sausage. All those carbs in the single were more than enough for me but you might prefer a double :-) This seems like perfect 2 AM food but they close early evening, I guess there's just no bars around here?

Full disclosure: I hate hot dogs. But I do think a proper Italian hot dog or a chili dog (or any of the inspired creations at Hot Dog Tommy's in Cape May) are damn delicious. But my kids were on a hot dog bender over Labor Day Weekend so I thought it was time to drop some knowledge in their skulls about where the Italian hot dog got it's start. This location is small, no nonsense (it's could definitely use a power washing, if we're being honest) and they only take cash. (And they have a cool little gizmo that checks all the bills you give them to make sure you're not trying to pass off some funny money.) And that double Italian hot dog with the works (sorry, I skip on the condiments) on that soft and delicious pizza bread? Worth the drive through some not-so-great parts of town (and having to pass the highly overrated Star Tavern as well). I think my kids learned a valuable lesson this holiday weekend.
