We wanted fish. Good NC fish and that's what we got. Huge chunks of Golden deep-fried (YES, mind ya own arteries) fish and piled high. The seasoning, moisture, and filet size was awesome. It came with a Cajun tarter and hot sauce. A side of greens (no meat) which were delectable and we got fries which were fried in pork fat (beware) which were delicious too. The Bubba chunks (hush puppy) with cinnamon butter was delightful. Unique spin with whole kernel corn. I wish they had a tad bit more seasoning like garlic and onion powder though. All in all it was delicious.

Listen, this was some of the best cat fish I've ever had, and their play on hushpuppies. If you're in Charlotte, the 7th Street Market is the place to visit. Everything was amazing.

Had lunch with the work crew at Jimmy Pearl’s at 7th Street Marketplace. The people working here are super nice and the seafood smelled fantastic. I picked Uncle Gene’s Fish Sandwich with Potato Things. The catch-of-the-day was catfish and the sandwich was crispy-fried to order — so expect to wait a few minutes. The food was really really good. The fish was crisp with great flavor and salt. The pea slaw had great acidity to balance the fried fish. A little hot sauce topped everything very well. The market can get crowded around lunch but calms down after 2:00. Parking is available in the marketplace lot or on the street if you can find a spot. Definitely check this place out if you’re in the mood for fresh, flavorful seafood.

Wow! The hype was real! I had to check out this place before they shut down on Sunday. The Ma Duke's plate w/catfish was delicious! Some of the best fish ever! Bubba chucks were awesome... light and fluffy. The stewed greens tasted great although a lil' too much sauce. The field pea slaw was like regular slaw. Jimmy sauce was tasty! Nice atmosphere eating at their bar. Very glad I was able to experience Jimmy Pearls. Best wishes to these guys in their next endeavor!!!

Google
This food was amazing. We got a crab cake, Uncle Gene's fish sandwich and potato thingies. Crab cake was delicious and perfectly cooked. Just enough binding to hold it together. The fish was cooked perfectly, crispy outside, tender inside and seasoned beautifully. The potato thingies were fried well and seasoned perfectly as well. Highly recommend.

After seeing their fish sandwich all over Instagram, we had to come in and check it out before they left 7th street market. Covid-19: you can order and pay online. They do curbside pickup too. We got the Uncle Gene's Fish Sandwhich (Corvina, Fried), Chesapeake Chick, Sweet Pea, and Bubba Chucks. The Chesapeake Chick chicken sandwich was my favorite! It was super crispy and I loved the seasoning. I really enjoyed the fish sandwich. I wanted it to be crispier though. Others I saw looked crispy so I think we picked the wrong fish for what I was looking for. The field pea slaw on top was delicious. The Sweet Pea was good, but I wasn't a fan of the bread it was served on. It tasted like a whole wheat pita and it was really dry. Both of the sandwiches came with two pieces of fish/chicken. They were huge and great for sharing. Get to 7th street market before 2/27 to check them out or follow them on Instagram to see where they are next!

Google
Ate here for the first time last weekend. Fish sandwich was amazing! Daily catch was catfish, which I’m not big on but I loved it. Hot sauce was perfectly mild (for those like me who like some heat but not hot-hot). Will definitely be back!

Blessed To Be A Blessing

Google
I don't know where all of these great reviews came from for this restaurant because it is absolute TRASH! The catfish is NOT catfish. The collard greens are tough and flavorless and served very sloppy. The pork chop sandwich was a large bone with barely any meat on it and tough and undercooked. The serrol drink is overpriced and bland. And the shrimp & grits were served with old lumpy, stale grits. The shrimps were not fresh. AND they topped it with those disgusting collard greens! I don't know where they got that awful recipe from but it needs to go back to the pits of hell. I spent $85 on this TRASH! I highly recommend going to any of the other places in the market besides this one. I want a refund! Better yet... I will NEVER come here again. This is a TRUE review!

Yelp
I had the awesome pleasure of catching Jimmy Pearls during one of their pop-ups at Free Range Brewing and MY GOSH!!!! My boyfriend and I ordered their dozen chargrilled oysters and fish hot link......bruh. SO GOOD!!!! I cannot wait for them to get their own brick and mortar so we can be regualrs. We absolutely loved this food! It was unique, super flavorful and cooked to perfection. Not a single complaint to be had. These guys know what they're doing and it shows, just look at these oysters!!! Ugh, just writing this I want some more right now. I cannot recommend Jimmy Pearls enough, definitely check them out for their next pop up!!!

Yelp
Phenomenal fish sandwich! I had the Uncle Gene's fish sandwich for lunch and I could not stop saying how good it was. We went for a last minute lunch, arriving as soon as they opened and getting first in line (yes there was a line). After about 10 mins my sandwich was ready. Piping hot and delis. The buns were lightly toasted, fish fried to perfection and seasoned in such a balanced way. The slaw was tangy but just what rhetorical sandwich needed. I would say in the future, in order to take my time and not have a soggy second half I would get the slaw on the side. Otherwise, whatever else was on the sandwich only enhanced it. My friend had the fried shrimp combo and kudos for the plump and delicious shrimp. Nothing was skimped on in either dishes and I will be back!

Yelp
I saw this place advertised online and was really excited to try. Hmmm... looks, feels, smells and tastes like whiting. Flakes were very thin and watery as whiting tends to be. Catfish is a very fatty fish with thick, hearty flakes. I get it, the catfish may not have been delivered today, but if it's not available, please say it's not available. This was a huge disappointment

Megan F.

Yelp
Fantastic crab cake sandwich! I loved the seasoning and the texture of the crabcake. Tried the side of bubba chucks, sweet cornbread flavor and honey butter were phenomenal!! I could make a meal of them. Good service too and they make each order on site so give them time for homemade food with excellent quality!! I see why they are nominated for the Beard award. In 7th street market food hall and parking is validated if you ask.

Jessica C.

Yelp
Such good food and service! Located in 7th st market, it wasn't my first time here but my first time catching them open for lunch! I ordered the kids shrimp for my 2 year old and two fish sandwiches. My kid LOVED the shrimp. The fish was fried to perfection! The slaw that comes with it is so good, I could eat that as a side alone!

Jo C.

Yelp
I must admit I was brought here by an instagram post going around and will say that just like the post, the food is as good as it appears people! Ok so let's start here, it's inside of a food hall located uptown: don't let parking sway you as the parking garage right by it is validated for up to 90 mins! So make sure to take your ticket with you inside to get it taken care of. So I went inside and it was the first restaurant on the right. Not only did the sign bring me this way but the amazing smell! I ordered a little bit of everything. The Uncle Genes Fish Sandwich, the mama dukes fish plate and the bunba chucks!! This was for 2 and I must say it was prepared quick and the smell was distracting as I tried to take it home and not devour it right in the car. Lol. Everything I ate from the fish, the pea slaw, the potato thingies, the bunba chucks, it was one satisfying taste after another. You will not leave disappointed at all. The only thing is the sand which didn't come with any true toppings which we had to doctor up at home but it was still pretty satisfying. Would love to try it as it comes in the pictures.

Kristy A.

Yelp
Saw a review on Instagram, and came in here a little before closing. They're located in a food hall. Everyone was very friendly, welcoming, and patient as I asked questions about the menu. My order was served in little time and made fresh. Taste wise, excellent. The serving of fish was large for a fish sandwich. So I was grateful for that. The slaw was good enough to be a side on its own. Overall, a good experience. Because it's uptown, they're out of the way for me, but this is a treat for those who work uptown. I'll be back one day.

Kamilia L.

Yelp
Insta brought me through and Darius sealed the deal. The food was Goodt! I didn't know that it was in 7th street market but It was a low-traffic day so I didn't mind.

Janelle Y.

Yelp
I can't believe this was my first visit to Jimmy Pearls. Best fish sandwich I've ever had! The fish was light but crispy and flavorful. Very fresh and not greasy. The slaw and hot sauce enhances this sandwich. The service was an added bonus and I can't wait to go back!

Latonya P.

Yelp
For folks who like chicken gizzards Go HERE! LOL Hubby had the fish sammy with potato wedges and scarfed it down! I also had the Pea Fritters - if you like falafel you'll like this and it was yummy! We spoke with owner who was very nice and gave us a lil history of being from Virginia and fusing many cultures together but with their twist! Oh yeah the stewed greens were delish too! Saturdays are busy at 7th street market so it's nice that this place offers reserved seating for their customers since the place was packed! Hubby also had the Sorrell Juice (house made fresh) and enjoyed that also.

Taitainia W.

Yelp
Ok so we walked right past this place when we entered the market. The customer service was top tier. We got the famous fried catfish sandwich with a side of greens and shrimp with grits. As a few reviewers have mentioned, the bottom bun on the sandwich is very soggy because the sauce is on the bottom bun and the pea slaw is on top of the fried catfish. I didn't really care for the bottom bun and would actually suggest putting the sauce on the top bun. The grits were a little too runny but Hubby ate it anyway. Those cornmeal nuggets with the honey butter was the best thing EVER. You absolutely have to get those! All together the food was really good. And the sorrel juice was really good, ask for a sample.

Samad R.

Yelp
Was in the mood for some fish during lunch, so I walked down to 7th St Mkt to Jimmy Pearl's. I was in luck that they had a fish sandwich that day, and boy, was it good. I thought it to be sizable, fresh, and oh so good. I got a side. I think it was fries and a water, and here is the only downside it was roughly $20. IMO,that's kind of expensive for lunch, but it's well worth the occasional splurge, so you know it won't be my last time flowing through.

Janelle B.

Yelp
Jimmy pearl is located in a food hall. There is a parking in the parking garage and will be validated up to 2 hrs. So talk to the person at the register about validating parking. When you walk in the food hall the restaurant is the first resturaunt on the right. The person at the register was friendly and helpful. She was very knowledgeable about the menu. We ordered the uncle gene's fish sandwich with wedges. The sauce on this sandwich made it a hit. They definitely have me as a returning customer.

Jennifer B.

Yelp
I'm still thinking about this CATFISH sandwich. The guys at Jimmy Pearls are the best of the best. If you haven't had their food yet...stop what you are doing and go now! You won't be disappointed. Catfish Sandwich

Pat G.

Yelp
I wanted to rate this 4 as penalty for not giving me more of that field pea slaw! I was trying to be good and got my catfish grilled. Daryl, co-owner said it was good fried or grilled. I can't verify that, but let me tell you, the grilled was the best I've ever had. The roasted potatoes are fried in pork fat...yes! It was all served piping hot. lastly, their special sauce is just delicious. I actually got a taste of their special seasoning and he shared the secret ingredient which I'll never tell. It wa the right amount of spice without oversalting, a unique touch these days. Do yourself a favor and get down here.

Denise H.

Yelp
Listen it's already gotten 5 stars from me bc the food and customer service is great! I just came back to say-if you don't like heat...don't get the greens bc they have some kick to them. Really Good! But certainly a kick. That is all. Still 5 stars!

Pamela H.

Yelp
The best seafood, always flavorful and they do not skimp on portions. Wish they had a restaurant in Dilworth or the SouthEnd.

Tanya C.

Yelp
Hands down...this is the best Fish Sandwich in Charlotte...and I would know cause I seek them out around town I mean it is exceptional and is now my "Go To", when I need some Fried Fish "good-good". Get you, thee, everyone you know, to "Jimmy Pearls" at the Market at 7th Street. The fry on the fish, the seasoning, the sauce, the field pea slaw...will do your soul right Service - Ah-mazing Ambiance - Fun

Mihail D.

Yelp
Service: 5/5 Atmosphere: 4/5 Taste: 3/5 Quantity: 3/5 Price: 1/5 Enjoyed the service and the atmosphere was fine. Can be a bit too busy and full of traffic for you to really enjoy your food but it's all about preference. In terms of the food we got the fish plate and really enjoyed the sorrel punch and the bubba chucks. The fries are good but the fish itself was really lacking. It's tender and well cooked but essentially flavorless. I was really expecting more spices but was pretty disappointed. Combined with the insane price of 22-23 bucks for it I can't honestly recommend it.

Bou B.

Yelp
Had the fried fish sandwich - it was really good! The service was friendly and helpful with figuring out my order. My chef friend says she likes everything she has tried on the menu. The cook/chef I was watching in the semi open kitchen scratched his head/hair whilst in the middle of preparing some food and didn't wash up or change gloves before getting back at it... I just can't forget it. Glad my food was already prepared!

Jon S.

Yelp
really great service. Locally owned. Best place to go if you want really good fish and chips

Carol R.

Yelp
Five star food and service. The fish sandwich is incredibly tasty. The fish rotates daily and we happened to come on catfish day. Score! The only issue with the sandwich was the bottom bun gets soggy from the sauce. No biggie though, used a fork.

Artianna S.

Yelp
I loved this place! I got the fish sandwich and it was HUGE, so filling and delicious! I also got some of the bubba chucks and they were delicious too! Service was excellent and welcoming!

Jermeka J.

Yelp
From the service to the catfish sandwich everything was delicious. The gizzards were tender and wonderful. I can't wait to get back to charolette

Keith H.

Yelp
It was a fantastic dining experience. The food was delicious and well prepared. The staff was efficient and cordial. My only issue (which isn't a major issue) is the lack of beverage choices. I plan to come back before I leave Charlotte in a few days, which is a testament to how highly I think of Jimmy Pearls.

Naim M.

Yelp
This place is the truth! Was visiting family so had to check out Jimmy Pearls since they are back in a brick and mortar location. Was never able to align previous visits with their food truck schedule. Stopped by on a Saturday afternoon to grab lunch to-go and ordered the fish sandwich with greens, Ma Duke's fish plate with red potatoes, and the bag of gizzards. I believe the fish of the day was trout, and it was executed perfectly. My mom's house is about 10 minutes from the market and everything was still fresh and hot when I arrived. My 1 year old enjoyed the potatoes and a few bites of the fish. Will be on my spots to hit next time I'm back home!

Jenn S.

Yelp
I came up to visit a friend and before the Hornet's game and she had told me there was a little market that had food. I wandered in looked at the other spots but then saw an unassuming sign for Jimmy Pearls. I was greeted and asked to get the special of the day on a sandwich, I then asked whether I should get the fries or collard greens. I asked if the greens were meat free and I was told they were and that to get them over the fries. This place and food did not disappoint. By far the best fish sandwich I have ever had and I live in Florida. The fish was moist and the sauce was delicious. The greens had a kick and were so tender. Everything was great; the service, the food, the prices and the company who ended up sitting next to me at the food counter. 12/10 would recommend and next time I am in Charlotte I will be back.

Debra W.

Yelp
Just know that instead of reading the reviews on this page, you should be instead driving to or at least planning your visit to Jimmy Pearls. This place needs to be on your radar - Now! The menu boasts of southern fare with Virginia Soul. We went here for our anniversary dinner and as low key as this place this, the food is nothing less than Stellar! Every.Single.Bite! The food is perfectly seasoned and has amazing balance of textures. The fish sandwich - you guys, it is what a foodie dreams are made of. The best you'll find in Charlotte. And that's on Mary had a little lamb. The field pea slaw - mind blowing. I love kale but raw it can be quite bland. But in this dish, it's pure love. Also ordered the box of yock - not really knowing what to expect, as I've never had it before but it was savory and delicious. Tender bits of meat and greens mixed in with noodles. Can't wait to come back! The Chefs here know what they are doing and it shows in the food.

Yelp
I'm saying it right now and I won't hear any objections: Jimmy Pearls has THE BEST fish sandwich in Charlotte! I've been familiar with the extremely talented chefs behind Jimmy Pearls but hadn't been to 7th St since they opened a stall. They will now quickly join my regular rotation of weekly take-out. I do need to note that they are open for dinner 4-7, however, the market closes at 5 p.m. I note this because the market CLOSES its doors at that time. Thankfully, JP's stall is right by the door and they can see anyone trying to come in but it's still very awkward. You're able to order either in person or online via their website. Okay back to the sandwich, I ordered the famous Uncle Gene's sandwich (you have choice of cod or trout) and chose the trout with a side of seasoned fries. The total time it took was around 8-10 minutes and I was out the door. Once I got home, I was delighted to see that my sandwich looked exactly like it does in their IG pics. The fish (and it's a large portion of fish) is topped with field pea slaw on a brioche bun which, I have discovered, makes all the difference! The sandwich was well seasoned as were the fries. I did put my fries in the air fryer just to warm and crisp them back up (due to the drive home) and everything was delicious. I look forward to trying everything else on the menu!

Zena T.

Yelp
My daughter and I went on a lunch date and I was surprised by the whole set up of the market itself. Was my first time in such an establishment but the concept is on point, surely to find something to please everyone. I ordered the fish plate and it was seasoned to perfection as were the greens. My daughter enjoyed her fish sandwich as well. Go check them out, you won't be disappointed.

Corey E.

Yelp
Delicious fish, friendly service and great quality. I love the 7th street market. The variety of locally owned shops and common area eating is awesome. Jimmy pearls is a great addition. It is a locally black owned business producing no frills, great food. I had the fish sandwich and fries. Everything was fresh, cooked to order and delicious. The fish was seasoned well. The sauce was also great. I highly recommend Jimmy Pearls if you like quality fried fish. Our son had the fish nuggets. They were also seasoned well which is a plus because many places have bland kid choices. My son, like us don't do bland, so he loved his fish nuggets.

A J.

Yelp
Thank you Oscar for the amazing lunch. We were traveling and stopped by this gem for a quick snack. Food was delicious, hot, and the price was unbelievable. I had the trout over a bed of dirty rice and it was a flavor explosion. True kindness is hard to find some days, but if you want a warm heart and a warm belly full a spectacular food, stop at Jimmy pearls. A must have if you are in town!!

Jelise H.

Yelp
I was told by two different people that this was the best fish sandwich in town. It didn't disappoint. Today's catch was NC trout and it was fried to perfection. However, I did cheat a little bit and used Old Bay hot sauce instead of the one packed. *chef's kiss*

Alex M.

Yelp
Man, I can't believe the line wasn't out the building for this place. It was easily some of the best food I've had so far during my time in Charlotte. The fish on this particular day was flounder (never had it before, but it tasted amazing). I got a Ma's Fish Plate with their red potatoes which were perfectly crispy on the outside and still soft and delicious on this inside. The batter on the fish was expertly seasoned (not too much, not too little) and it wasn't too thick either which was good to see. The slaw was different, never had something like that before but it too was delicious. Even their sauces that came with were phenomenal. Overall, it was definitely a little pricey, but honestly worth every dollar.

Shionda F.

Yelp
Look ‼‼ I'm going to sum this one up real short & sweet . If you want the best fish sandwich you will ever taste in Charlotte Nc make your way here ASAP.

Alicia S.

Yelp
I ordered online and there were specific instructions on where to park and what to do upon arrival. Once I arrived, I followed the instructions and they were right out. Very kind. The food was just the right temperature, the presentation was as good as the food tasted!! Too bad I didn't know about this place sooner. I am rooting for the brick and mortar location! Y'all have something amazing here!

AmirReza O.

Yelp
I got the catch of day, Catfish, sandwich and it was very delicious! Moist, light, and fresh. The sauce and bun just completed this perfect sandwich.

Solita J.

Yelp
Uncle Genes Fish Sandwich is amazing! It's perfect in ever unexpected way! It tastes like New Years Day in the South after finding fabulous deals at the Dillards New Years Day sale. Anybody feel me? WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND.

Dezmony T.

Yelp
I went to this place to try the bag of gizzards. On instagram they look really really good! However, they are very soft & chewy. It seems as if they are boiled first, then fried. Highly don't recommend. We also ordered the "potato thingies" for them to give us waffle fries. The shrimp were ok, could've been seasoned & same with the fish. Definitely wasn't work $70. Will not return.

Sherice A.

Yelp
I was in town visiting friends and they took me to Jimmy Pearls. I want to start by saying I'm not a big fan of fish but this spot changed all of that. We ordered the Uncle Gene Fish sandwich and it was amazing. It came topped with field pea slaw on a fresh brioche bun. Highly recommend! The fish was perfectly seasoned and fried and the slaw was the perfect addition to the sandwich!!!

David W.

Yelp
Best fish sandwich I've had in over a decade. Light, fluffy, crispy, flaky, and not to mention the fresh slaw. . This is real food for the soul.

Myron M.

Yelp
I recently saw an article in the Charlotte Observer about great fish sandwiches that you can get throughoutCharlotte during Lent. I was really excited to try Jimmy Pearls because it was featured in the Charlotte Observer and I believe their fish sandwich was the cover shot. I got the fish sandwich with the potatoes on the side all total it was about 20 bucks. I was extremely disappointed with every thing about the sandwich. I ordered my sandwich to go and was really excited about the fact that they put all of the ingredients that made up the sandwich separately for you to put together once you got home A+ .Once I put the sandwich together, I quickly realized why they made that decision. The bread can't hold the coleslaw the hot sauce, the remoulade and the fish, the bottom bun just falls apart. Catfish while I understand as a bottom feeder, it tasted like dirt literally tasted like dirt. The coleslaw with the beans had a sweet taste to it, but overall added nothing to the sandwich, a traditional coleslaw would've been so much better And provided a nice balance to the hot sauce. The remoulade sauce was very thick and chunky. I almost thought it was spoiled from the texture, tasted disappointing. The potatoes were horrific while they had a nice crisp crust to them. The seasoning fell flat. The potatoes would've been better if they had been boiled to almost completion and then fried and provided a nice fluffy on the inside, but was very dense and disappointing, all in all I would have much rather had Showmars and paid 799 for their catfish sandwich which taste much better than this one. Sorry Jimmy

E S.

Yelp
Came in from the 305 today attending the New Edition concert. Food was A1 ...Service was Even Better... Nice vibes Good Peps. Chef did his thing... DEFINITELY will revisit.

Heather K.

Yelp
Checked out Jimmy Pearls at food truck Friday last week. A long awaited meal and it did not disappoint. I got the uncle gene's fried chicken sandwich which consisted of de-boned trout, field pea slaw and hot sauce inside a bun. Delicious! I look forward to trying more of their menu soon.

Demetria M.

Yelp
Scrolling through IG, I somehow came across Jimmy Pearls page and all the mouth watering photos of their food and that they're VA natives like myself.....which meant I had to immediately order and support them.  Since then, I've probably tried almost everything on their menu and they offer something for everyone, vegetarian, pescatarian, vegan, they have you covered and it's curbside pickup....win win!  Place your order, pay and select your pickup time online and you're done(you can also walk up as well). I've tried the field pea fritter wrap on pita, bubba chucks(creamed cornmeal batter fried with smoked sorghum butter and ham jam), stewed greens, grilled cabbage, ma dukes(catch of the week with bubba chucks and field pea slaw), uncle gene's fish sandwich(local fish of the week, field pea slaw, hot sauce, on a brioche roll), crabber roll( crab salad on a brioche roll)  and a fried seafood platter that changes weekly which they call 'freako misto' which includes fried local seafood and veggies.  The platter I had included shrimp, okra, pickles and other goodies and it was amazing.  They've also added yock to the menu which I'm patiently waiting for the seafood only option of that but I know it will be amazing as well.  Once you try the bubba chucks with that sorghum butter and ham jam you will be looking for someone to slap because it's just that good but honestly everything I've tried was delicious but don't take my word just check it out for yourself.  You may already be familiar with the chef's here as they are also a part of Soulfood Sessions.

Yelp
Who ever said takeout couldn't be lavish and amazing! On New Year's Eve we ventured to 7th St Public Market and grabbed lunch from Jimmy Pearls. I was tired of seeing them post about their fish sandwich. It did not disappoint. After grabbing it togo and driving 15mins home, the sandwich was crunchy, hot and packed with flavor. I could have eaten both of them. These guys have something up their sleeve for the Charlotte community and WE LOVE IT!

Kendra H.

Yelp
The uncle gene's fish sandwich is perfection !! Highly recommend this food truck! You can't go wrong with anything on the menu!

Yelp
Jimmy P's food truck visited my apartment today. The cashier had a little trouble hearing my order, but she was super apologetic and sweet. I don't ordinarily order salads because I'm always thinking I can make this at home. Nonetheless, I'm sooo glad we did. I had a regular salad and my husband added fried chicken to his which was perfectly cooked. As pictured below idk if either one of us talked let alone took a breath until it was gone. Lol I'd definitely return!
