Jimmys Old Town Tavern

Nice bar with adventurous menu. The parking was non-existent, but I warmed up with a bowl of chicken stew. It had plenty of meat, veggies, and potatoes. It was very hearty. The buffalo wings were saucy and had a nice kick. I really came for the cheesesteak. The amoroso roll was nice. The portions of ribeye were good, but the texture was too fine. There were not enough grilled onions to notice, and the whole sandwich was mushy and bland. It was a disappointment. On a brighter note, the waiter was amazing. He kept my diet coke full and even brought a pitcher to make less refill trips. I look forward to returning to explore the rest of the menu.

Jimmy's is the heart of Herndon. This was the first time back here since I moved to Texas earlier this year. Friendly service, the owner running the weekly trivia game, and food that a guy who grew up north of Buffalo can appreciate. Having lived on and off in Herndon for over 25 years, I have had more than a couple of meals at Jimmy's. However, nine times out of ten, I go for the Buffalo Platter. Beef on weck, pierogis with kielbasa and onions, and of course chicken wings. That's Buffalo wings to most people, but just wings if you grew up in Western New York. I'm hungry again just thinking about it.

We were greeted with a warm and friendly smile from the start. The server was amazing and patient with our kids. The environment is warm, spacious and friendly and it’s very military friendly. The Halloween decorations are amazing and plentiful. The food choices are outstanding. I’ll post up on how the food was but so far, we can’t complain one bit. Lovely lovely restaurant that we accidentally stumbled upon.

Jimmy's is a fun place to visit. Great atmosphere. Lively. Bartenders are friendly. I've been going there for years. My only gripe is the portions of food they now give are smaller. I use to love their turkey club. I'd go there just to get it. They use to put a mound of turkey on it. Now you get two slices. Still taste good but not has satisfying.

It was a busy night right before Christmas. The atmosphere was festive and unique, something you don't find nowadays. Service was a bit slow due to the sheer number of people. The food was good. Had their Friday Fish Fry, wasn't a big fan of that but other items like the roast beef was delicious.

Great spot for solid chow and a fun atmosphere. Great holiday events and giveback to the community. Service is the dent here. Outdoor bartenders are always in the weeds and hardly make eye contact even if slow. No other way to say it...arrogance like a DC club bartender needlessly. Compare them to Jackson's bartenders at like a Jackson's in Reston and u have night and day comparison. Take from an old bartender. They are weak there.

A MUST STOP AND EAT PLACE! What an incredible venue! They truly treat you like a local from the minute you enter the door. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was fantastic, and the staff is over-the-top friendly and fun! Highly recommend the Philly Cheesesteak - bread is delivered fresh from Philly daily! TJ and Irene behind the bar were super and we even got to meet Jimmy himself. Thanks for the intro tour! Can't wait to be regulars here soon!

Very welcoming staff. They made feel like you were one of the locals. The atmosphere was chill. A place you want to come and hang out for a few hours to grab some beers. The poutine was great. Their brown gravy that they put on it was out of sight. The burger had so much flavor and it was cooked to a perfect medium. The Buffalo platter had a bit of everything and it was all really good... especially the pierogies and kielbasa. We would definitely return.

We've probably driven by Jimmy's over a thousand times since moving to Reston way back in the 90's. It's been a staple in downtown Herndon forever. If you want to catch a game, grab a drink or indulge in bar food you've come to the right place. The Cheesesteak is legit...definitely one if the best in Nova. The cheese is melded into each bite and reminds me of Philly. The wings are also top notch. Funny thing is it took us 25 years to stop in and now we've been back 2 more times in the past 2 months. Good stuff.

Good solid food and cold brew Very much a Buffalo Bills fan. Wait staff was acceptable, not super friendly. But it's more about the food then great convo. Got Philly cheese w/ Wiz Would go back for sure

Lovedddd the food! But loved the service even more Justin is the best.. Justin for the first time made some henny margaritas! 7+ to be exact! Justin was behind the bar running around but I never felt left out. The place is super chill and has some good music! I would definitely go back

Herndon Virginia is 22 miles from downtown DC with an urban suburban mix feel; a historic rail station depot, the NextStop theater and the one n only Jimmy's Old Town Tavern. Cheers is the one in Boston with the 'everyone knows your name' catch phrase but right here in Herndon, we have this amazing and warm establishment that aces that! I met the awesome owner Jimmy just before Thanksgiving when he was donating and dropping off a beautiful Thanksgiving feast at a business in Herndon, Virginia. He came across as a good guy with a big heart and a fun spirit. He mentioned that he had loads of family in the USMC and he was a big supporter of our military and veterans. His staff - I met bartenders Joshua, Gabriel and TJ - echo with the same level of care, kindness, enthusiasm and ultimate service. The moment I entered Jimmy's I felt the love and the great vibe. Gabriel and Josh gave me an awesome and friendly welcome and took really good care of me. The Friday fish fry was fantastic! The accompanying kielbasa and pierogis took it over the top. The gents kept my glass of soda refilled through the evening. We also enjoyed Sunday football watching the 49ers Eagles game with some amazing wings and an absolutely stellar grilled salmon over greens salad. Delicious foods, great specials, an owner with a beautiful heart, awesome prices, his team on the same wavelength, a wonderful local following, a calendar full of fun events including Trivia every week,, a great location on Elden St in downtown Herndon and our great flag flying outside - does not get any better!

I had a great dinner experience here! I sat at the bar by myself, but felt welcome and like a local. The grilled Buffalo chicken was delicious and served quickly. It has a great warm local sports bar vibe, divey in a great way. Decent selection of local beers made the dinner even better!

A welcoming and friendly place to eat! Staff were attentive and personable. Good selection of food at reasonable prices. I would be happy to go back again.

My husband and I are from PA (live in Herndon) and are so happy to have found a legit local cheesesteak! Also, our kids love the green napkins:) ‍We typically order takeout (pictured below) but finally got the opportunity to eat at Jimmy's and try the Tuesday night trivia (7:30p) which was challenging (in a good way) and so fun! If we didn't have little kids we'd go weekly. The trivia is more pop culture focused (music/sports/movies) while we prefer academic, but had a great vibe. I liked that the trivia was paper-based, so we could go at our own pace and didn't have trouble hearing. I also liked their drinks selection, which had a decent selection of both beers and wine (I really enjoyed the sparkling!) and we also enjoyed an Anita root beer. This was our first time not doing takeout and we were pleasantly surprised by how nice the side salad was with the cheesesteak (substituted salad for fries) and also how spacious Jimmy's is. Trivia questions are announced over the PA system so you can sit anywhere (including outside) and play and they collect your answers. We were able to have a nice conversation too (noise level was perfect and tables were spread out). Everyone was very chill and we just overall had a relaxing, enjoyable night. We'd like to try the poker tournaments sometime!

We decided to go here after I asked Yelp to do one of their "surprise me" things. I looked at the menu and immediately recognized Buffalo, NY (where I spent my early childhood) influences. I thought this would be perfect comfort food for after a few days of dreary rain. My husband had the Tavern Chili (made with beans!) And the Philly Cheesesteak with swiss and fries. The chili was loaded with cheese and very flavourful! Even I, (not a chili person) loved the taste of it. And he said the Philly Cheesesteak was the best he had ever had. He especially appreciated the bread which is reported to be authentic brought in from Philadelphia. I'm telling ya, bread can make all the difference in a dish, and Jimmy's is doing it right. Also, the ratio of filling to bread was perfect. He said he would go back to Jimmy's just for that sandwich. I ordered the Pierogi and Kielbassa dish. The Pierogi were filled with cheese and potatoes, and cooked just how I like them: firm/crisp on the outside and soft on the inside with a grilled onion topping. I am not a sour cream person, which is what came with the dish, but rather a melted butter person. However, the pierogi did not NEED the melted butter. The kelbassa flavour and little bit of juice was enough for me. And the kielbassa was tender in the center with a slight snappy skin on the outside. Overall, I loved the dish, it was a perfectly sized portion I actually finished in one sitting, and we both would order these dishes again. Well done, Jimmy's and thank you!

I thought I already did a review of this place. But since I liked it so much I'll do it again. The food was awesome. They had live local bands inside and outside. They all sounded great. The service was perfect. They all had numbers on their shirts that told how many years they had been working there. A lot of them were 20 plus years. That says something right there. Check them out I'm sure you'll love it.

This place is such a great spot to watch a game, listen to some live music, or grab a quick bite/drink. Food is pretty good,, service is top notch, and it's always a great time!

Food is ok, service is touch and go.. Ambiance is really busy.. If you are in the area, it's good place to stop through and get some wings. But that's about it..

Recently arranged to host a reception following a service for the death of a family member. Wanted something close to the church and took a chance on calling Jimmy's. Was pleasantly surprised that they didn't hesitate to help. They arranged for use of the side room away from the bar (comfortable for 30-35 people) and dedicated a server to fulfill drink orders. It was the middle of the day and their chef helped us pre-select an assortment of sandwiches, salads, sides, dips, and deserts in a buffet. Everything was fresh and delicious and presented nicely. We received many compliments from guests. Prices were very reasonable and they were terrific to work with. Please consider Jimmy's if you're planning an event in Herndon, I don't hesitate to recommend them.

Excellent service, food and atmosphere in this Buffalo bar in Herndon, VA. Love that I can get quality beef on Weck, authentic Buffalo wings and more all in the same platter.

Enjoy a classic American Pub at Jimmy's! Easy going vibes perfect for a low key night out in Herndon. Cream of crab soup is served every Friday as the soup of the day, highly recommend! Service is usually quick, however this day was particularly busy so slower than usual. But, we still enjoyed ourselves.

Best buffalo wings ever! Huge, juicy and very delicious. Service is very nice, atmosphere is nice and welcoming.

The ambience is very laid-back and the staff are very friendly and accommodating for gluten sensitive diet. The grilled chicken was a little dry but still tasty so this review is more about how inconsiderate customers for inside dining. A family of 3 was sitting a couple tables away (thank goodness) and coughing and hacking almost the entire time we were there for dinner. I asked them politely if they could please take their coughing outside? I just got a mean stare from all of them. The staff heard this but I don't think they wanted to lose business. It's a cute local pub for happy hour, dining and and live music, but I think I will prefer to only eat outside If the owners are not going to be considerate of all of their customers as well as staying healthy to keep coming back!!

If you are a local or are visiting from out of town, Jimmy's is definitely worth checking out for some good eats if you want some pub food! So far I've tried a regular burger (because I'm basic lol), chili, buffalo wings, and their poutine. I keep coming back for the poutine though because where else can you easily get poutine around here? The service is also always super friendly regardless if you choose takeout or dine in. That's what I like about local places. I haven't been to any open mic or trivia nights or anything, but I do hear they are really fun and well organized. There is some free street parking at the front and overflow parking across the street that is easily walkable. If there was a movie about Herndon, Jimmy's Old Town Tavern would be that one pub all the locals go to and know each other at. :P

The food is fantastic, the atmosphere is fun and Kellie Ann is by far the best server. Always kind, quick and professional, she remembers your name and even your favorite drink. I even see her her on her days off and she still makes the rounds acting hello to all the patrons. She's the reason Jimmy's feels so homey.

I have been going here for many years and absolutely love their food and atmosphere. But the food is taking a downturn recently. 1 month ago I ordered the Buffalo platter, my favorite, and there were 5 chicken wings and not 6. One week ago I ordered the Buffalo platter to go and the Polish sausages looked like old coins. There were 3 and cut so thin and overcooked that I had to question what they even were. Their business has really grown. Yea! But the food to me is taking a nose dive. Please pay attention to detail Jimmy's.

In town with my family for vacation and ended up here twice! Food, drinks and the service was amazing both times. The kids meals are huge and my son loved his both times. The price of everything is also extremely reasonable, especially with how big the portions are. I would highly recommend this place.

Second time coming here ... great local tavern barroom atmosphere; draft beer selections are not bad at all; rather average. Waitstaff are attentive (Chloe, the waitress, was AHH-MA-ZING!!). Wings were ok, the poutine kind of meh, as the fries weren't to my taste (kind of overdone). I had the grilled cheese with bacon (very good) and my dining companion had a burger that he loooved ...! There was a band warming up and the vibe and clientele was friendly and lively. If you're in Herndon, it's a must see!

Hands down my favorite bar spot for cold brew, amazing food and great sports gathering and old time atmosphere. Love coming to JOTT!! Cheesesteaks are amazing, wings are incredible, great selection of beer. Sandwiches are great and the poutine is delicious.

The owner is honestly so kind and so down to earth. Highly recommend. Jimmy was so proactive in making sure I felt comfortable at the venue and the food and drinks were absolutely delicious! The service is quick and the bartender is phenomenal. I was out on the patio and I loved the atmosphere, I highly recommend this venue! Whether you are grabbing lunch or want to grab some brews in the evening this is the place to go!!!! Love it!

Love, love, love this place. The menu is awesome, and the food is excellent. I love my upstate NY foods, and we were not disappointed. Everything we tried was great, and well priced with service that was right on par with everything else in this little gem.

The food here is great and the bartenders are super nice. My only gripe is the amount of shady people that come here, and should bump up their security. Definitely a place to go to if you're in a group

We just moved into Herndon and Jimmy's Old Town Tavern was the best welcome "home town" feel restaurant we could ask for. We've eaten all over the country- and Jimnmy's gives you the ambiance, the quality of good, and awesome service you'd be looking for no matter where you're from. Gizmo (outside bartender) was a rockstar and so knowledgable, while Kelly Anne had that "welcome to my home- let me buy you a cold one" kinda feel. We'll be back soon and recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried. Those that have tried- well you already know :-)

Amazing Staff and food at good prices. Indoor and heated outdoor bars allows for choices all year round. Outdoor bar is dog and smoker friendly. Our dog gets so excited as we arrive as all the staff love on her.

Best buffalo wings in town. Seems like a great place for all people to hangout and grab a drink. The bartenders made good drinks and were attentive for such a busy environment. Parking was easy. 2 lots close by but are dark. I would probably ask security to walk me to my car if I was a female by myself at night.

What an incredible atmosphere! I was in town on business, and popped in before my late flight out back home. It was hectic when I walked it, but I quickly learned the just had a lot going on. There was a live band out on the patio, a birthday party in the dinning area, and a fundraiser up at the bar. It didn't matter, Jimmy was welcoming and personable, and Mike (server) was great! I went with the Heat Rush wings and a steak salad. I wish I ordered the wings well-done/extra crispy, but the sauce was tasty. For being hotter than hot, I think it needs cranked up a few levels, but I'd order them again. The steak salad was great to, decent portion and the taste I was looking for.

One of my favorite places in Herndon!!!! I love everything about Jimmy's. The food was excellent, the service was wonderful, and the ambience was so fun!! I can't wait to try their other menus for my next visit! Love you Jimmy :)

I don't think I have to say much about this Herndon staple! Jimmy is such an amazing soul and you can feel it in the food! The cheesesteak has to be my favorite, wings and the crab soup You know it's good when you're place is always busy

Jimmy's is a great place to get food, drinks, or some fresh air. They have the nicest people working there. The customers all have good vibes. Everyone is welcome. The beef on weck is flavorful and juicy. The Buffalo wings are on point. Nice mix of beer on tap. Bring your friends or bring the family. I highly recommend Jimmy's Old Town Tavern.

Had another fantastic post-ride lunch @ JOTT! Wings, Beef on Weck, and a couple cold Devils Backbone Vienna Lager! Service by Simmi & Sarah was stellar, you guys are the best! We're already looking forward to our next visit!

My favorite local place to go for happy hour. I love their wings, brownie sundae, and their perogies. Thier new outdoor space is awesome.

Herndon's version of Cheers and a favorite neighborhood haunt of ours for Buffalo wings and beer. Service can be a little variable at times since it's nearly always busy, but our experiences have been good and the character of the place keeps us coming back.

I've been going to Jimmy's since the first week it opened more than two decades ago. However the last two years have been trying. Saint Patty's day ordered Beef on Weck and it did not disappoint. Fantastic in every respect. However for the zillionth time the fries were disgusting. Again they were soggy and dark like the fryer was way over due for cleaning. I wouldn't mention this but I've mentioned/complained about this for the last two years. It had the effect of being a steaming pile of poo next to the sandwich I loved to eat. Again disgusting. If this was the only thing then that would be whining. But it's not. The great potato skin catastrophe was stretched over three in-house visits and it is like some Costco potato skin left under a warming light for several hours. This is no longer some Buffalo NY transported bar in Northern Virginia. It's a has been location suffering neglect.

A solid 3.5. Jimmy was going around and making sure everyone was enjoying their meal. Good bar and pub ambience and you need to order the Poutine and share it with nobody.

We held our 2nd annual Christmas lunch at Jimmys yesterday. What a great place! Great atmosphere, great food, and reasonably priced. What's not to like? We had a group of 18, everything was setup when we arrived. Maggie, our server, did a wonderful job. Looking forward to returning!!
