The LA (Quarantine) TV & Takeout Guide - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"TV Pairing:Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) “First off, whether you’ve seen the show or not, you need to watch this clip. Second off - if you haven’t seen Avatar: The Last Airbender, what the hell are you doing? Not only is this the best show in television history, but it’s also a perfect binge-watch during quarantine. While it’s technically “made for children” (with the goofy animation and action-filled escapades to match), the writers also deftly sneak in themes like socioeconomic division, class war, and genocide. They also, as my one friend put it, “Include a surprising amount of horniess.” Like I said, the perfect show. But to return to the egg custard tarts we began this blurb with, one of the best places to find them is at Jim’s Bakery in Monterey Park. Flaky puff pastry is filled with a bright yellow, silky cream custard - and is definitely fit for both the Avatar, master of all four elements, and you, the master of getting crumbs all over your bed. Jim’s Bakery is available for takeout, call (626) 573-5757 or pick-up in-store.” - KH" - brant cox, kat hong, brett keating, james montgomery

Jim's Bakery

Google
BEST CAKES IN SGV!!! P.S. their egg tarts & Portuguese egg tarts are also very bomb good!!! If you are into the crispy flakey tarts, try Jim's Bakery~ Remember to call early on the weekend to reserve the egg tarts because they do sell out quick during the busy days. If you have a celebration going on and want to purchase asian cakes, come here and you will not be disappointed. I have tried both mango and fresh strawberries cake and they only use the best products for them. The fruits were very fresh and sweet, with the cake texture very sponge-like and yummy. Pricing is not bad at all but do remember to call ahead to reserve! :)

Google
Was gifted this AMAZING fresh mango cake from Jim’s and it was to die for. Perfect presentation, thinly sliced somewhat ripe mangos that still had a crunch to them that was the perfect balance to the fluffy cake on the inside, and a light airy cake center that wasn’t too sweet. Want to pay them a visit myself now!

Google
This is a great spot for Chinese baked goods. Their egg tarts and Portuguese tarts are some of the best in the city. The Portuguese tarts have an egg white filling instead of the traditional egg yolk filling. Their buns are also very good! My favorite is the barbecue pork pineapple bun.

Google
Wow. Do not pass this gem by. Tucked away in a plaza in San Gabriel valley is a Chinese bakery with some deliciously crafted and reasonably priced treats. Do not sleep on the po tarts. If you only get one thing, get these. Deliciously fluffy and smooth egg custard is nestled in some of the flakiest softest pastry dough I’ve had. Ours were fresh out of the oven, which made them taste incredible. I would also highly recommend the taro delight, which is a ball of taro paste housed in a swirl of purple dough. Then pastry was light - and the filling was light, smooth and not too sweet. We also enjoyed the napoleon, flaky pastry lightly layered with walnuts and some sort of cream layered in. The pork floss bun was interesting, a fluffy roll with a sweet pork coating. Next time I would be interested to try more of their savory offerings as well. They also make beautiful cakes and fruit tarts to order as well. The interior is small and simple, with only one table as an option for seating so the shop is more of just a place to grab your goods as opposed to sitting for a while. I would highly recommend to stop in to experience the goodness!!

Google
Both of the po tarts and the egg tarts were not too sweet, I like the po tarts more. Reasonable price. Their breads were just ok.

Google
Visited LA searching for delicious egg tarts but these were very mid. Lacks flavor and no butter aroma or taste

Google
I love egg tarts — ideally not too sweet and very, very eggy. Jim’s Bakery delivers with a smooth, rich custard encompassed in a crispy exterior. It is probably pretty calorie dense, though 😅

Google
Get their Mango cake if you come here because you won't regret it. Their Mango cake is delicious and spot on. There plenty of parking here so you shouldn't have any issues finding a spot. You order at the front entrance because they closed off the inside of the store. They do get busy later in the day but if you come in the morning, you shouldn't have any issues. My sister also got their Steamed BBQ bun here and she liked it.

Yelp
Got some breakfast goodies got the family. Not too busy in the store when I went, but the shared parking was crazy busy. Staff are quick and friendly. Too many choices. Always get the Po Egg Tarts and sweet pastries. Prices are fair. They take cash and credit cards, but there is a minimum purchase of $20.00. Rating: 5 Stars

Yelp
Jim's bakery is a local asian bakery that's known for its egg tarts around town. This place was well recommended from my local family and friends. I tried the traditional egg tart and Portuguese egg tart here. Both egg tarts were smooth in its own way-- the egg tart being custardy and silky; the Portuguese tart being creamy and flowy. The tarts themselves are not overly sweet. As someone who has tried egg tarts from China multiple times and from family, I can say that I don't prefer these egg tarts solely due to the crust. The crust is thicker and flaky, which isn't my preference. However, I do know it is a preference, so I'm not docking any points down for that. Service was quick and simple. Ambiance is that of a standard asian bakery with pleasantly fresh bread and custardy aromas. I recommend this place if you want to grab a quick egg tart bite! (Just keep in mind of your crust preferences on tarts.)

Yelp
I keep finding myself coming back to Jim's Bakery every time I'm in the area. They just have the breads and pastries I like, and the prices are still great at about $2 to $3.25 each. Their sizes and flavors are always consistent. The selection isn't huge, but they carry all my favorites: Curry Beef Bun, Pineapple BBQ Pork Bun, Hot Dog Bun, Curry Pie, and BBQ Pork Pie. A lot of people com here for their egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts, and I high recommend those too. I just don't get them all the time since they don't keep for long. I usually buy a bunch of breads and pastries and freeze them so I can enjoy them throughout the week. They heat up really well in the microwave or air fryer, even after being frozen! Even though there are several Chinese bakeries closer to me, I still prefer to stock up at Jim's Bakery!

Yelp
Yummy yummy food. I have come here multiple times and the pineapple bun is always good. I also love the mango and tiger roll cake. The pastries are always so yummy and the service is good too. The ambiance is really sweet and chill like typical Chinese bakery. I would recommend

Yelp
I was prompted to visit this establishment after viewing "The Brothers Sun" on Netflix, where Jim's Bakery was lauded for having the finest egg tarts. While I cannot definitively confirm if they are indeed the best egg tarts, I certainly savored them while they were warm. I personally find their po tarts more enjoyable than their egg tarts. I would consider returning here to purchase egg tarts as a gift, and I would inform the recipient that, according to "The Brothers Sun," these are considered the best.

Yelp
The place isn't very big, so i imagine most orders are to-go. Best egg tarts in the area. They have their usual one as well as the Portuguese-style. I like them both for different reasons. Service is solid. No complaints there. Plenty of parking, but storefront currently seems hidden from all the construction. There's only one small elevated table if you are looking to enjoy there.

Yelp
Great pit stop on our neighborhood walks, and their coconut cream buns are still the best I've had! No almond croissants, though...perhaps too costly for the ingredients to keep making them for selling. Service was friendly and efficient and although I haven't stayed to enjoy my baked goods in the bakery, they have a nice cozy seating area for those who wish to stay back and enjoy the slow and easy pace of consuming the baked goods in-house.

Yelp
I'm surprised this place doesn't have a higher average rating! This is my favorite location for buns/baos! My favorites are the pineapple milk custard bun, BBQ pork bun, pineapple BBQ pork bun, and pineapple bun. This place is unique because these buns are way above average size! And they're delicious! I love coming here to leave with a bag or two of them for the week. They're perfectly baked, the fillings are generous, and the carb to filling ratio is perfect. The service is what you'd expect from a bakery and it's pretty quite overall. Unless there are a lot of customers of course. They always run out of these buns before the day is over if that offers any insight into how delicious and popular these buns are! Highly recommend this place! I look forward to visiting every time I'm in the area.

Yelp
This is one of the OG Chinese Bakery for egg tarts in Monterey Park. Be sure to stop by early in the morning for freshly made egg tarts and meat pies. Ordered the Pineapple Custard Bun, BBQ Pork Pie, Chicken Pie, & Portuguese Egg Tarts (aka Po Tart). Everything tasted good. Quick and nice service. Plenty of parking and located in the same plaza as NBC Restaurant and LA Fitness on Atlantic Blvd.

Yelp
Really good egg & Portuguese (Po) egg tarts here! Even though I tend to gravitate towards the Po tarts, they are both solid options. The Po tarts, in particular, are on the sweeter side with it's caramelized surface. On the inside, you'll notice a warm and creamy/custardy texture - perfect for a bite sized pastry. In terms of the crust, it is buttery and a little flaky (still has a texture to it). However, it's not as flaky compared to other egg tart places I've had growing up in the Bay Area where the crust falls off when you bite into it. But despite this, it's still one of my favorite spots for egg tarts in the SGV area. When I stopped by yesterday ~ 1 pm, they only had 7-8 Po tarts left. Not sure if they make more after it sells out, so make sure to stop by early.

Yelp
The po tart (portugese) was shocking and incredible. Flavor was so good and it melted in my mouth. Skip the pineapple cake.

Yelp
Tried the egg tarts and WOW these were yummy, creamy, and subtly sweet. The beef curry pie was also very savory and flavorful with a good balance of pastry

Yelp
This rating is in regards to their egg tarts only as I have not had a chance to try their other baked goods! Jim's has, hands down, THE BEST egg tarts in the area (I am a self-proclaimed egg tart fiend and WILL try an egg tart if it's ever available on any menu). The pastry is light and flaky and crumbled into buttery bits as you bit in. The custard is "not too sweet" and perfectly smooth and creamy, with that anticipated jiggly texture when you give your box a shake. Highly recommend also trying the Portuguese egg tarts-- the slightly bruleed surface really adds an extra element of DELICIOUS with that hint of caramel. They also have an assortment of other sweet buns, cakes, and cookies to select them if those are also of interest to you. This place is pretty accessible off the main road with a HUGE shared lot where it won't be an issue finding parking (it does get busy with the gym rush though because it's adjacent to an LA fitness). There's usually a small line in the AM on the weekend (when I usually go) as people hope to get their tarts when they're freshest right out of the oven but the wait is never unreasonable and definitely worth it for the best egg tarts in LA!

Yelp
Taro pastry amazing! Highly recommended. Just look at the photo - how much taro is inside. Mango cake so good! The cream and the cake and so many mango slices.. such a perfect combination.

Yelp
Tried this bakery after watching a YouTuber raved about their egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts. They said it's the best in LA so of course we had to try. I had high expectations, but was greatly disappointed. The egg tart was ok but the ratio of the crust and the egg custard is not balanced. The crust was too much that I couldn't taste the custard egg much. I had to take out some of the crust so then I could have a better taste of the custard. The Portuguese egg tart is not the ones you get from Macau. It was kinda like crème brûlée or cheese tart texture and there seems to be a sour after taste. Sadly, I didn't like it. I was disappointed with what I tried. I'm glad Bay Area has better egg tarts and Portuguese egg tarts though.

Yelp
jim's bakery has the best egg tarts! i've been here frequently to get their po tarts and egg tarts. their tarts are so big and perfectly flavored every time. this most recent time i tried their mango cake. it was delicious but the cake to filling ratio was a bit off (needed less cake and more filling). flavor was great , however, and not too sweet. their cookies are also yummy, i will definitely be back to try other pastries

Yelp
Jim's Bakery- it's one of my favorite bakeries, and it's located in Monterey Park inside the NBC and LA Fitness plaza. My favorites are their mango cake (I used to get their mango cake for my daughters' birthdays when we lived in Alhambra) and their famous egg tarts. My hubby was craving their egg tarts yesterday. Their egg tarts prices are $2.1+tax, Portuguese tarts are $2.3+tax each. They were hot and fresh and so delicious! Their mango cake also tastes so good with a generous amount of fresh and sweet mango slices, and it's not too sweet. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Selene S.

Yelp
Came back for their egg tarts again. The regular egg tarts are now $2.10 each and Portuguese egg tarts are $2.30 each. There is plenty of parking in the plaza. Staff is quick at the register. I also tried their tiramisu slice ($5.50) and it's good! Not too sweet and the sponge cake part is moist.
google avatar

Lillian B.

Yelp
I had heard the Po Tarts (like Portuguese egg tarts) were really good here. Meh....crust wasn't flakey. But the filling was good, cooked perfectly - not under and not overcooked. I just prefer a different crust.
google avatar

Jenny T.

Yelp
Jim's Bakery is a popular local bakery known for their tarts but their selection of bread and pastries are solid. They also have cakes as well. I called in the day of to order a cake for a birthday and the sweet lady on the phone told me good thing I called because I just ordered the last cake, she confirmed pick up time with me and when I went to pick up, the process was really smooth. They also give out candles and a birthday sign. The mango whole cake is so good, the mangos were so fresh and sweet while the cake itself was soft, light and airy!
google avatar

Maggie C.

Yelp
On our egg tart tour, we visited Jim's Bakery known for delicious egg tarts at reasonable price. Both the Po-tart and egg tarts have flakey crust with rich creamy custard. The shop is clean and efficient. Worth a stop in the area and buy in bulk!
google avatar

Yelp
I love coming to Jim's Bakery. These are the best egg tarts!! I love egg tarts that have a flaky thick crust Jim's bakery knows how to make it the best! Their egg tarts taste even better when they are warm. It's so good. The filling is also creamy too. I order both their Portuguese egg tarts and regular egg tarts. They are both really good! I prefer the regular egg tarts because I like the crust more and egg tarts are a bit more sweeter so I prefer that. But both are good! I would order both of them! They also have other bakery items such as sponge cake, variety of breads, cakes, and other desserts. I'll need to try some of their other options because their egg tarts are so good! I highly recommend this place They only accept credit card if you spend a minimum of $10. But if it's less than $10 you can use debit card or pay with cash Note: -They have plenty of parking spaces available -They are across the street from NBC restaurant and the LA Fitness. It's also a perfect treat after a nice workout xD if you happen to have a LA fitness pass. That's what I would do if I had a pass lol -There is no indoor and outdoor seating. -If you take them home put them in the toaster oven but they taste best to eat them once you order them

Yelp
Card and cash accepted. One of our go-to for mango birthday cake! Cake is always fluffy and not too sweet. I always call in to reserve one before arriving just in case they sell out that day. So glad I always do. One time I arrived there was a line of about 5-6 people ahead and a lady ahead of me wanted a mango cake, bakery said they're sold out on a Tuesday morning. There were 3 on reserve, one of them was mine. Their egg tarts are great and I always grab some along with some buns they have laying out.
google avatar

Yelp
This bakery has most of your Hong Kong style pastry. Such as pineapple bun, coconut cream bun. It's best know for the egg tart, the regular Hong Kong tart or Portuguese. Try both of them and see which one you like the most. They are also famous for their mango cake, it has a lot of mango in it. There are hot chicken pie, curry beef bun, BBQ pork bun. The place is clean and there is a small booth you could sit. The shop closed on Monday and Tuesday. The staff is knowledgeable on the patry, they checked out you items quickly. They spoke Chinese too. This is one of the best pastry shop you can get in Monterrey Park.
google avatar

Yelp
Egg tarts and Po Tarts are delicious. Staff was attentive and informative. Cozy Asian mom and pop bakery vibes.

Yelp
THE BEST TARTS I'VE EVER HAD! PORTUGUESE TARTS ARE FIRE! My students parents gave me a box of these egg- tarts, and my gosh; They were the absolute best I've ever had! Food: 5.5/5 I am a sucker for all things DESSERT. When I tried both kinds of egg tarts, my mouth literally watered! They're not too sweet, and they honestly melt In your mouth. Fruit tarts, egg tarts, all tarts are my favorite. . BUT these right here, OMG. Little round slices of heaven! All around: 5/5 I will go and order myself some, because that's how much I loved them. As I passed them out to friends and family, everyone said the same thing. . . What a treat. I will for sure be ordering some soon! If you're looking for a small dessert that's affordable, not overly sweet, and a for sure crowd pleaser, definitely stop here! :)

Yelp
4.5 stars! I usually come here for their egg tarts which are hot and fresh (my favorite in Monterey Park area), but I also get their baked goods which while it is not extensive, it is usually stocked. I have gotten their tiramisu a few occasions (smaller but fitting for the occasion for about $9) and it was perfect. The only downside is they don't have any Happy Birthday signs like 85c would offer.
google avatar

Linda L.

Yelp
We arrived on a weekend morning and there was a line but it moved pretty quickly. There's a lot of delicious baked goodies and desserts. This is a very small bakery but a loved one in the community, especially for their egg tarts. I would definitely say this is a stop for takeout. There's a small table for seating but with so many ppl coming and going, I would just order to enjoy at home. This is in a busy plaza so parking might be difficult to find but there's an underground parking garage.
google avatar

Yelp
I love love love egg tarts so much; they remind me of my childhood!! Jim's Bakery has the best egg tarts I've ever tasted. The crust is perfectly buttery, flaky and soft, and the middle is the right amount of silky. I've tried both the regular egg tarts and the po tarts, but I personally prefer the regular. These would be a great treat to bring to a party! There's only a couple seats inside, so you'd likely be taking your baked goodies to go.
google avatar

Yelp
I had Jim's Bakery bookmarked a while for their egg tarts/Portugese egg tarts but ultimately decided to come for the purpose of picking up a mango cake for my dad's birthday. I called in the morning to schedule an afternoon pick-up for the cake, and also made sure to reserve some egg tarts since I read that they may sell out on the weekends. We saw the Portugese egg tarts come out straight from the oven so we all shared one to eat in the parking lot despite being crazy full from lunch. Between the HK egg tarts and Portugese egg tarts, I personally like the Portugese ones more but this is totally personal preference. I would recommend trying both! The egg tarts are quite large and had a perfectly flaky crust. I'd recommend reheating them in a toaster oven. The mango cake was a big surprise. In addition to the layers of mango on the exterior of the cake, there are HUGE chunks of mango inside the cake as well. The cake is a sponge cake with a light layer of whipped cream. Not too sweet, the ultimate compliment. My family really enjoyed the cake. The staff even offered a birthday sign and candles, which was super nice! Prices are super reasonable and the baked goods are delicious. I was surprised not to see any line at 2-3 PM on a Saturday, but to be on the safe side I'd recommend quickly giving them a call to reserve your baked goods.

Yelp
After seeing the long lines every time I pass by this bakery .... I decided to see what the hype was about. I visited around lunch time on a Sunday and surprise surprise NO line! I am a sucker for fruit tarts so I got one of those and their staple egg tarts. The crust on both the tarts was soft and crispy. It was flaky and delicious. The inside custard in both tarts was thick creamy and custardy. The fruit was really fresh and ripe as I bit in. The cashier was friendly, the place was neat and tidy. The tarts were totally worth the hype! But I won't be waiting in line. Super grateful to have been able to walk in and out with delicious goodies. This place was also featured on the tv series Warrior.

Yelp
Called to order an 8" mango cake 2 days before and the lady that picked up the phone was super nice. All she needed was my name, order, and the date/time I was picking up. Pay when you arrive. The parking lot is shared with a popular dim sum restaurant and a gym so it can be challenging. I thought the mango cake was not bad! The cake was a delicious spongecake and they were very generous with the cake portion - which I loved. The cream tastes fresh and fluffy. They don't skimp on the mango - the cake is literally loaded to the brim with mango. My only gripe is that perhaps mangoes are not in season but they used really under-ripe mangos so it was a less than pleasant experience to munch on crunchy mangos. Otherwise, their cakes are delicious! I've had their egg tarts before as well, and they are certainly worth all the hype.

Yelp
Excellent egg tarts. Easily my favorite spot to get them. During my first visit, the worker at the front was helpful in explaining the difference between their two tarts; the Portuguese-style (po-tart) is a mix of egg and cream in their custard, while the classic egg tarts are more egg-forward. The po-tarts are a tiny bit pricier, but it really comes down to preference in taste. What I ordered: -Egg tart: Absolutely perfect. They come out warm and flakey. You get the butteriness from the crust and enough egg flavor in the custard which I definitely appreciated as some spots lack this note. It's smooth and delicate and just hits the spot. Still great warmed up in the air fryer, but nothing beats enjoying it immediately in the parking lot haha. -Po-tart: It's hard to tell if I like these more or the regular egg tart because they are both so good. Like the employee mentioned, these are a little less egg-forward and more creamy (the center is more white when you bite into it). The consensus among my family, however, is that these are the winner. -Spiral Taro Pastry: Really enjoyed these however the exterior is more of a soft flakey rather than a crispy/crunchy pastry the way egg tarts and croissants are. I don't mind but if you are looking for the crispy exterior, this one is a little different. Plenty of taro filling, not too sweet, and much more moist than other spots I've tried. They are also a tad larger than I've seen at some other bakeries so that is a plus but I would split it in half and enjoy it as two servings because the filling can get a little heavy all at once. Parking and the shop: This bakery is located in the same plaza as NBC seafood/dim sum and LA Fitness in Monterey Park. The front face of the shop is a bit awkward because you need to walk directly across the entrance to the plaza where all the cars are entering if you happen to park on the NBC side. The shop itself is small, however, I have never encountered a line longer than maybe 3 people on all the times I have visited (both weekdays and weekend). They have a selection of non-refrigerated baked goods such as buns, cookies, and breads. Their cold glass case has the various cakes they offer like mango cake and cream roll, both full sized and smaller portions/slices. Then, they have a small hot case where they have the egg and po tarts as well as some savory pastries that look like empanadas. *Do bring cash if you don't plan on making a large purchase. They require a $16 minimum if you want to use card!!! *Also the boxes that hold your pastries are awful. The lid is connected to the sides so it forces you to pull the entire thing open, which makes the side connecting tabs looser so they no longer hold well once you attempt to close the box. If I had any critiques for the bakery, it's that they need to get a different box/packaging design. Overall: Excellent pastries. Already thinking about my next visits!

Yelp
I've only had their egg tarts and po tarts, but they are the best! I absolutely love to have egg tarts whenever we have dim sum. Lately though I've been skipping them at dim sum and we would just make the extra trip to Jim's Bakery. They're that good.

Yelp
Good egg tarts (just not my favorite in town). It is reasonably priced ~$2 and freshly baked. This is a local favorite for sure. There is a big parking lot and there can sometimes be a long line but totally manageable
google avatar

Chelsea C.

Yelp
Jim Bakery is my favorite spot for egg tarts and po tarts. I love the thickness of the custard and the flaky crust. I also tried their other baked items and cakes, and they're all really good. Their cakes are affordable as well. They're located in the same plaza as NBC Seafood and LA Fitness in Monterey Park. Parking is decent but can get busy around lunchtime. Despite the occasional parking struggle, the delicious pastries and friendly service make it well worth the visit!

Yelp
Jim's Bakery is super local to me. My husband and I have purchased from the bakery a few times already - usually to gift to people or bring to parties! I was recently craving some Portuguese Egg Tart (po-tarts) after watching Brother's Sun and seeing the mini shout-out and feature (mpk pride!) I last visited on Valentine's Day 2024 and wanted to bring some po-tarts for my coworkers for them to try! Prices as of 2/2024 I ordered po-tarts 12 for $27.78 including tax - without tax they are $2.10 each. The po-tarts were warm, crispy, and flakey on the outside. The inside was a creamy, custard with a little torched detail from the oven. The custard was filled, and didn't feel like they skimped out on it. These po-tarts are creamier and more dense than traditional egg tarts. They pair well with hot tea or coffee to balance out the sweetness, which I don't think is too sweet (what a compliment lol). All of my coworkers, family, and friends have enjoyed them! All smiles, no complaints! Other prices: Mango Cake - 6" - $32, 8" - $44 Strawberry Cake - 6" - $27, 8" - $37 Tiramisu Slice - $5 Mini Square - $8.50 Credit Card: Please note that there is a $16 minimum charge for credit cards so be prepared if you have a smaller order - bring cash in case. They also charge $0.50 for a box. Hours: Mon, Tues: Off Weds - Sunday: 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM Parking: The store is located in a plaza with multiple parking spots. It can get quite busy, but we have still managed to find a spot. Customer Service: I called in the morning before I picked up so that the order could be ready when I picked up. They picked up after a few rings and answered my questions. They speak both English and Mandarin/Canto (I'm assuming!). I'll be back! The prices have been rising slowly but that's to be expected with inflation. I always enjoy their quality po-tarts and still recommend them to others! Maybe next time, I'll try their cakes!

Yelp
A small-handmade bakery shop. Many chinese bread and pastry are available for breakfast or a lite snack. It's self-service and pay at the register. The staff are friendly. They have fresh-made egg tarts and Portuguese tarts. But, it's the best Portuguese tarts in town!

Yelp
As we pulled up to NBC Seafood, we saw Jim's Bakery within walking distance. We recently saw them mentioned in The Brothers' Sun, so we were curious to see if the egg tarts lived up to the hype. We interior was tight and hard for the customers to move around. People kind of pushed and shoved their way around. It was stressful. As we were waiting I couldn't help but notice all these price gauging signs. $16 minimum for debit and credit. $0.50 for the box. Nickle and diming everything. We ordered 3 Po Tart ($2.10/each). It tasted pretty average, nothing special. The filling was runny and the pastry could be flakier. Definitely not feeling the hype, another Brothers Sun disappointment. It's only average and we weren't a fan of all the nickle and diming from the business so we probably won't come back. So many places to get egg tarts in the SGV so there are so many options.

Yelp
Short and sweet: you can't go wrong with their traditional egg tarts or their Portuguese style egg tarts. Small mom & pop bakery, no thrills or frills....nothing fancy but the quality is there. Warm, fresh and delicious. Parking can be a hit or miss. Sure it's a big lot but if you come during prime lunch or dinner hours....good luck. There's a Chinese family style seafood restaurant and a gym in this plaza (amongst other small businesses that are also located here). Every time I'm back home in the SGV, I try to make it a point to get some egg tarts here.

Yelp
They might have the best egg tart in LA. The crust was so buttery & flaky. The egg custard inside the pastry tasted so creamy & a bit like Asian flan/pudding.

Yelp
It's a very small bakery without a big selection of pastries, but hands down the best egg tarts in LA. Their egg tarts are big, buttery, and delicate. Old school, no weird ingredients like tapioca or coconut milk. Definitely the best I've had in LA.

Yelp
Stopped by after lunch since we were in the area. There's lots of parking in the lot. Walked in and there were about 5 people in line but service was really fast. Got an egg tart, Portuguese egg tart, curry beef pastry, chicken pie, and durian roll. Egg tarts were still warm when I got it. I tried the egg tarts and they were pretty good. The crust was very buttery and flaky. The egg custard was a tad on the sweeter side but would be perfect with a cup of tea. If I had to choose between the egg tarts, I would get the Portuguese egg tart again.

Yelp
This is one of my go to spots when I am craving Chinese bread. I love their pineapple bun with custard. It is so good and the bread is so soft and chewy. I also love their coconut cream bun here. The whipped cream inside is so delicious and not overly sweet. I've also had their baked bbq pork bun and although good, the meat inside isn't hot, so I usually eat it at home so I can warm it up. I've had their raisin bread and taro bread too and both are good too. I don't usually like to buy a lot of bread at a time because it doesn't taste fresh anymore after 2-3 days. The only suggestion I have for this bakery is to have all the bread for the day prepared and ready by the time they open. I've been here several times during opening hour and only a few bread are available for purchase because they are still prepping the rest.

Yelp
Dear Jim, Your bakery skills are unmatched. I came back twice now for more egg custard. I understand the hype for the Portuguese but I really think the original is where it's at. I have yet to be here when the line is out of control but there seems to be a steady flow of people coming in for these! Jim is on to something! I enjoy how flaky they are! Gotta eat 'em when they're warm!

Yelp
BEST PORTUGUESE EGG TARTS ! Been coming here for years after a friend introduce them to me at a pot luck. These little sweet angels taste amazing, it's like heaven in your mouth. It's so sweet, moist and flakey crust, you honestly can't get any better than this. It taste even better when you get them fresh from the oven! I usually order by the dozens for family gathering, parties or welcoming gifts. I usually call ahead of time to make sure they have enough. Plus these are usually good the next few days! Just pop them in the microwave for 30 seconds and bam, still taste just as good. I've tried their other baked goods (egg tarts, bread, cakes etc) and the only good thing is their Portuguese egg tarts. The only thing that sucks are the prices of the tarts, it's $2.10 for one now (2023)! Use to be $1.25 a few years back (2015) T__T
