Very comforting old ice cream place! I love the local history the location has, and I’ve always had a really pleasant experience when I’ve gone! Their soft serve is always perfect, and I love their fun sprinkles colors. Being able to get their flurries in waffles cones is also SO TASTY!!

Very solid ice cream spot. The chocolate milkshake was good and my friend liked the soft serve twist ice cream cone. It wasn’t anything special though (I don’t live around the area so I wouldn’t go out of my way for this place) but definitely a solid choice! 4/5.

1/5 stars I'm extremely disappointed in the service I received at Jim's Frostie Treats on 11 Mile Road in Royal Oak. Despite being a repeat customer, I was appalled by the young worker's handling of food and money. He wore gloves, but it seemed like he didn't change them often enough, and what's more concerning is that he applied hand sanitizer directly to the gloves. This is not only improper food safety protocol but also creates a false sense of security. As a customer, it's unsettling to see gloves being used in this manner, especially when handling money and food. Proper food safety procedures, such as frequent hand washing and replacing gloves after each order, are essential to prevent the spread of bacteria and keep customers safe. Given this experience, I won't be returning to Jim's Frostie Treats. Cleanliness and food safety should be top priorities for any food establishment, and unfortunately, this place fell short. This is hands down the best soft serve I have had in the area. The lines are always long and that's because it's absolutely worth it. The staff is always so friendly and I love supporting local. I'm sad to say that I only got to visit once this year so I said ... What's the biggest hot fudge sundae I can get? Spoiler alert: this isn't even the largest!! It was absolutely incredible. The hot fudge is decadent. It tastes homemade to me. This place has yet to be beat for me and I've been in the area for a few years now!

This place has big portions, I couldn't believe the size of my brownie treat, I can't wait to try there big banana split. 😋

Tasty ice cream! I had the apple deluxe (?) sundae, a seasonal treat with vanilla ice cream, apples, caramel, and pecans. Was darn good. Portion was huge. They're a bit slow, relatively, but the final product is worth the wait.

It is always a treat to come here as a visitor to Royal Oak! I always like to try new flavors. Butter Pecan is my favorite! Check out their Facebook page before coming. A Secret word might get you a discount.

Well loved gem in the neighborhood. Whenever I drive by at night, there's a line. Today I decided to try Jim's - lovely and clean ice cream spot with lots of outdoor picnic table seating. It's clearly well kept because there were no bees attracted to any of the trash cans. The store also smells very clean. Staff is swift and friendly. Our sundaes are soft serve based and enjoyable. Pricing acceptable as well. Long list of sundae options. And more. But if you're looking for hard scoops, they only have 3 flavors (Butter Pecan, Michigan Pot Hole, and Superman). Great spot! Would recommend.

Jim's has been around forever. This was the ice cream place that I went to when I was growing up. And it definitely hasn't changed, and that I guess is a really good thing. It's still just personally owned dairy Queen type business with a personal flair. Right down to Superman in the phone booth out front. If you want to jump back to a little nostalgia, go to Jim's, the soft serve is delicious and the people that work there are always so friendly.

I've seen this place a million times because of Superman and stopped by on a late summer night. This place is quite unassuming but they have some pretty solid ice cream. The soft serve was super smooth and creamy and priced well. Service was super friendly! Not a ton of seating outside but enough!

Glad we finally stopped and tried them out--Jim's is a Royal Oak gem! Lots of choices from banana splits to their blizzard-equivalent, hot dogs, etc. definitely recommend you go to their FB page before your visit as they occasionally offer coupons. We were able to score a 20% off coupon the night of our visit!

I was expecting a very different experience based on all of the reviews I've read on here. This place was very inefficient - loooooong wait time. By far the slowest ice cream place we've ever been to. It's summer, it's hot, so a wait time is absolutely expected, but not like this. We both got the same thing (small dole whip) so we weren't waiting on some sort of elaborate thing. On that note, this place has far too many options - but everything feels really random. Why is an ice cream shop service hot dogs and bosco sticks? It's very inefficient, and it's really frustrating watching how much slower it makes everything. I will say, I think this is probably a really great place to bring your kids if they want to have some fun experiment with different toppings, they will probably get a huge kick out of the long list of options here. They do have dole whip, which is the sole reason I came here, but the portion sizes are tiny compared to anywhere else. If they have two flavors, the two flavors are already mixed and you can't get them separate. I do think there are much better options in terms of flavor and bang-for-your-buck in the area, but I might come back and give them another shot.

Easy, convenient "hometown-feel" ice cream shop. However, a bit overpriced for what it is: basic, sugary treat with stale toppings. Service was unpleasant and seemed rushed for a slow evening. As an adult, I wouldn't return. When I was younger I enjoyed seeing the Superman figurine in the retro phone booth out front.

Jims is consistently great. Decent prices, plenty of flavour and topping options. I typically get the frostiie, or a dipped cone. They actually offer test cones and chocolate dip, butterscotch dip and cherry. Service is slow, but it's a local place we like to support.. No wasps near the garbage cans and seating in the shade was clean. It was quiet, lots of people bringing their dogs out and it's relaxing to see them play.

A great spot with some delicious frozen treats! I tried their Michigan pot hole, which is super decadent for the chocolate lovers out there. I also got the Strawberry shortcake, which was fresh with the fruit and the ice cream was creamy and delicious.

This place has way too many options. It had my head spinning... I'm not saying that's a bad thing but when the soft serve tastes that good by itself, do you really need that many options?

What a great local spot! It's open quite late, and there is always a line, wait was about 7 minutes. Parking lot is quite busy too. But it was totally worth it! The Twix ice cream so as the vanilla custard with sprinkles was delicious Service was nice and friendly, we also asked for some water and they were happy to help. And the atmosphere is great, ambience is nice with all the neon lights, and there is a lot of seating spots around!

Quick and easy soft serve or sponge bob square pants for the kiddos. When it's nice out there's always a decent and at times a long line. There's benches by the grassy empty lot next door. Prices are reasonable and it's a no frills ice cream spot for the family. Nothing super fancy or high end here, but decent and what you might expect from such a place. You can always count on the super man mannequin guarding and hanging out in the empty phone booth out front. During the winter the empty lot is a Christmas tree lot. Think 75 and beaches and warm weather to come...

Great place - sometimes on the slower end but they are very busy. They have a large menu with other food items like hot dogs, etc. The line is somewhat longer but it gives you time to decide on what you want. Definitely one of the best spots in RO.

Were looking for a place with dole whip and this one came in my Yelp search. Nice place with a lot of options and a huge sitting area. Staff was very nice and dole was delicious. You can pay with card which is a plus.

Jim's is fantastic! It's a cute little stand with "Clark Kent" changing in the front, you can't miss it! Everything is delicious and they have a lot of options to pick from. I went with the classic twist cone with rainbow sprinkles. They also have novelty popsicles, slushes, ice cream mixed with the slushes and a wide variety of sundaes. I highly recommend hitting this place up during the last few days of nice weather!

I've been hitting a lot of Jim's around the country, but this one didn't seem to help my muscle grow, just my tummy. Cute little Custard Stand with low prices and tasty creamy custard and mediocre service. It would score 5 stars in most cities but Detroit is a paradise full of custard Perfection, so much like Milwaukee - the Detroit standards are higher, so unfortunately four stars will have to do, because I've had a couple dozen in Motown that I've enjoyed more.

It was a small hut with many options for ice cream and limited outdoor seating. It just wasn't the experience we expected based on reviews, we prefer Ray's Ice Cream in Royal Oak instead.

Fairly tasty. I've only been here once so I'm not entirely sure if it's deserving of 4 or 5 stars, but I'll update this review if/when I go back. I walked here with some friends yesterday, one of them lives near 10 and Campbell. She's been here many times and said she usually gets their version of a Blizzard - I think it's called an Arctic Freeze. I ordered a simple sundae (vanilla soft-serve with caramel and peanuts) and it was about $3.75 for a small, which is reasonable. The small was larger than I thought it would be, too. The line got long by the time we received our ice cream, too - it seems like it's a popular neighborhood place. All of the custom sundaes and Arctic Freezes looked delicious, too, so hopefully I will try more of them this summer. They also have non-dairy Dole Whip as their one non-dairy option, and the flavors change daily; that day's was lemon.

Very excited to see dairy free / vegan options. Blue raspberry dip vanilla almond milk was delicious.

Wonderful place, I always get my dog a pup cup she gets so excited to walk for ice cream! They have a large variety and clean tables and grass to sit and enjoy!

my mom has been going to jim's since she was a little girl and every time we're in town we have to stop by. everything is so delicious, especially the chocolate soft serve. there is ALWAYS a line, so be prepared. no real seating but this is truly a community gem

All employees wearing gloves...but they are handling money and then handling ice cream...without washing hands or changing gloves in btw money and food prep. Watched this as we waited in line for 15 min without line moving...gross practice. What other poor food handing prep practices are they performing?? Disgusting. We left without ordering. Stay away.

Great ice cream, unreal selection, but definitely the slowest service around. It was much better in the past. If you're okay with spending up to an hour waiting for ice cream on even a weeknight, then by all means. If youre looking for a quick wait, theres much better options around the area for similar quality and price.

This place reminds me on an Ermas. Same kind of setting. Same type of Menu. They have a huge list of different shakes, flurries, cones etc. I'm more of a basic gal most of the time. Just a vanilla or maybe even twist custard on a cake or sugar cone. Sometimes sprinkles also haha. Their custard isn't my favorite by itself. But it's delicious when it's for the flurries and etc. I would come back but not my first choice though I do like how they close later than most places!

Ice cream treats for my dogs as well as me??? I'm sold! Humans love the malts and arctics.... But I drove 20 minutes here for my dogs!

We were dying for ice cream and headed to try Jim's the other night. We got there right before they closed and there was a small line. The line moved quickly and social distancing efforts were fantastic. All the staff were wearing masks and there was a glass divider in between the customer and cashier. I got a chocolate soft serve in a chocolate dipped sprinkle cone with rainbow sprinkles which was soooo good and my boyfriend got a flurry. We were super happy, this will be our new spot!

So tasty and delicious! I love coming to Jim's for many reasons. First their Boston Cooler is pretty darn tasty, second they have a nice little grassy area with picnic tables to hang out and enjoy your ice cream, and third because they have the most adorable doggie bowls! (See pic!)

Drove past this place the other day and there was a huge line so today was the day to try Jim's! The twist of vanilla and chocolate has a nice smooth texture and it's just as good as your average soft serve. While the vanilla custard had good flavor, the texture was off. It had tiny pieces of the egg in the custard so it wasn't a nice smooth texture. Overall, their soft serve and custard is good. I would come back if I'm too lazy to drive all the way to Erma's.

Great local spot for good ice cream. They have a lot of good flavors and seasonal specialties. The people were great and let me try flavors. The sizing is huge, so bring a friend.

I love this place! You can substitute froyo for ice cream in your flurries making it an almost healthy snack. The staff is friendly, lots of picnic tables, and it is very clean. They also have lots of fun flavors and creations. Plus, they have puppy treats for dogs.

This place is a piece of Royal Oak, from the big ice cream wood sculpture to the Superman Phonebooth. All your standard and favorite braizer treats are here. I like the peanut parfait. It's not summer until I have been here at least once.

My favorite place for ice cream! What I appreciate most about Jim's is the wide variety of unusual and unique flavors to choose from that are difficult to find in generic/franchised ice cream places! They allow you to mix and match in any way you want. Also, the base ice cream itself is very tasty! My personal favorite is the samoa arctic flurry with kitkats. Service is quite fast even though there is usually a big line. Jim's is easily one of my guilty pleasures

Jim's is a great local ice cream shop! They remind me of my child hood. If you like fruit with your ice cream, would recommend asking what they have that's real fruit, lots of different options! I also got a slush with softserve, really good. I got mine blended, but would probably choose to get it unblended next time to taste more of the slush. Also their sizes are incredibly large. A baby size was more like a small at a normal ice cream shop.

I love this place. It's not really even about the ice cream. Ice cream and other treats are good of course, but the whole experience is what we love... This place really is the neighborhood hang out. From kids getting done with sports games, to couples in their 80s. It's such a neat compilation of people. Service is good, staff is primarily young persons... But they are very friendly and work hard. We visit nearly every week :)

Delicious selections and it's family owned! I got the cotton candy artic frostie and it was amazing. Only gave a 4 star due to the long lines and wait time.

YES. Classic ice cream spot, best in the area! There was a line in front of the place on a Friday night, don't let that scare you.. It goes pretty quick. They have all of your classic soft serve treats. Cones (dipped if you want), sundaes, shakes and flurries. I ordered a flurry and there were big pieces of toppings, so they definitely don't skimp. Sizes are huge! A "baby" is enough for me and way bigger than you would expect. Plus the prices were reasonable. Flurry and a sprinkle cone was about $6! Tons of families there, tons of people brought their dogs, they have a large field next to the shop and they were projecting a movie on the side of the building, so cool! Nothing bad to say, I'll definitely be back!

I've been here a couple times and although there's always a long line (because it's so good) it's SO worth the wait. They have many varieties to cater to everyone and their tastes! There are also benches beside it to sit at if wanted.

I made it a personal goal of mine to visit multiple ice cream parlors this summer, and if this is any indication of how this summer is going to go, I'm stoked! I mean come on, I just got a tasty ice cream in the same spot where Superman hangs out. Cruising around the Royal Oak area we decided to check one off the list and visit Jim's Frostie Treats. It's so obvious when pulling up that this is a local favorite for ice cream. How can I tell? Well for starters the phone booth where Clark becomes a super hero is free of graffiti and the glass was still in one piece. The picnic tables we sat on were aged but were free of carvings and your usual tagging. The people that worked the stand were hospitable & the ice cream was reasonably priced. We ordered a couple medium cones with smiley faces for the kids and had a ball watching them trying to lick the ice cream faster then it melted on this beautiful spring day. The wife & I got blizzards, holy crap they were big. I think we payed less then 10 dollars for four treats and I can certainly understand why Jim's has had such success. I think I'm gonna leave Jim's Frostie Treats on the list and see what else is good here this summer. So unless your from Planet Krypton you have no reason not to come check out Jim's for yourself.

Classic walk up ice cream place. On warm days, be prepared for a long line. Always great service! Best flurries around; can't drive through the area without stopping for one.

I like stuff in my ice cream, ya know, m&ms, brownie bites, ect. And jims delivers on that front. Quality ice cream and lots of variety. Good prices for the sizes and fast service. 10/10 would recommend
