20 of Chicago’s Most Beloved Closed Diners | Eater Chicago

"There was no Jim at Jim’s Grill, a hole-in-the-wall diner that began its tenure as a hot dog spot in the early 1980s. Instead, there was David Choi, a chef who moved to Chicago from California in 1984 to help his sister run the business. Choi’s arrival was a catalyst that transformed Jim’s into a restaurant ahead of its time, serving Korean and vegetarian food while luring a host of then-underground musician regulars like Smashing Pumpkins frontman Billy Corgan and Dead Rider guitarist Todd Rittmann throughout the 1990s. The diner closed in the mid-2000s, but Choi’s cooking can be sampled at Amitabul." - Naomi Waxman

There's no option to give 0 stars so, one will have to do. This restaurant offers average American food that's overcharged for and most of the time, they don't have half of what the menu supposedly offers. Call before you commute!

Last few times I've been here the food hasn't been good. The burger patties are similar to McDonald's, as opposed to the high quality beef sold right next door. And certainly they pale in comparison to anything one would make at their own home. You feel weird even eating it. They messed up the order. Weird. I'm not trying to be rude, I just want restaurants to take pride in the food they serve

Half the menu was not in stock....food we did get was not what we ordered ...example I ordered a club... but it was 2 slices of ham and 4 slices of tomato... not a club... after we told them about this their response was "well its the same price sooooo?" .....no ice in drinks because we were told the ice machine was broke and the manager won't fix it..... BUT THEY ARE CONNECTED TO A GAS STATION.... WALK NEXT DOOR AND BUY ICE!!?? The waitress did nothing but complain and cry to another table. Watched 3 tables get up and walk out because they waited 45 mins for food and people were being served theirs before them.... very small restaurant so no reason one waitress couldn't handle the "crowd."...... place could be great with a positive attitude...food in stock that they have on the menu.....

I tried to call an order in for 45 minutes and later found that the staff had the phone off the hook after they had 6 orders in. Who does that? Jim's Grille used to serve a great breakfast. But no longer. Today, I had the special, which was catfish. The catfish piece was small and the best part of the serving was the very small hushpuppies. If things don't change, I would recommend going to Floyd or Christiansburg for a meal.

Small breakfast place, nothing fancy, just great food and great service. If it's been awhile since you've had a good home cooked meal and some good conversation you just come on in here and you're bound to find both. I visited with my church group and we talked about God and guns and ate fried meat. It's real America here, don't go looking for "gluten this" and "cage free that", just come in hungry and leave happy. For a real good price too!

I can't give a half star. My husband said he would rather starve then eat here. Bad service and bad cold food. I have never been however I don't think I'll go.

Yelp
Food was good and portions good. Service wasn't bad. Ambiance was as expected- homey.

Yelp
This diner doesn't have enough recent reviews, so here goes. We eat at this little restaurant a few times a month. It serves simple food, but it is always tasty. The staff are friendly and the service is quick. If you're looking for fancy or trendy food, keep looking. But if you want good country eating with decent portion sizes, give Jim's a try.

Yelp
Came in with about 15 people on a random Saturday morning. I personally always feel bad coming with a lot of people, especially at such a tiny little place like Jim's Grill. But let me say, the employees and the overall service that my friends and I received was absolutely amazing!!! The waitress was very nice despite having to deal with a bunch of college kids early in the day, which made all of us feel a lot more welcome. Not to mention that the food did not take very long at all to be prepared! The food itself was absolutely amazing and very well needed being in an unfamiliar area not knowing where to get some food, all while being fairly cheap. If you're ever in this area and you don't know where you would want to eat, go on down to Jim's Grill. They'll make it feel like home!!!

Yelp
I've been going here for over a decade and I love it. Good solid comfort food (macaroni salad and macaroni and cheese are listed as vegetables) plus local color. I've stopped ordering biscuits and gravy at other places because they're never as good as the stuff at Jim's.

Yelp
Jim's is the local Willis go-to restaurant. Anyone that lives in Willis has been to Jim's Grill (probably once a week or more). My favorite is the turkey sub all-the-way!
