The food is overall decent. I got the spicy soup base, lamb, black beef tripe, and a veggie combo. The soup base tasted good my first sip and became more flavorful over time. To echo another review, I think the lamb is unsatisfactory, since it feels frozen and defrosted. The beef tripe and veggie combo were both decent and tasted how they should be.
I was delighted by the ambiance. In contrast to other hotpot restaurants that played relatively loud pop music, Jin Fu played slow instrumental music, which made my experience relaxing. The service was good and the servers spoke very politely. However, I just could not understand why the sauces were in a cart and distributed somewhat at the servers' discretion instead of in an all-you-can-eat style like other restaurants.
As for the price, it is on the pricy end especially given the location and the general quality of food. It is, though, the only hotpot restaurant that's within walkable distance in New Haven.
