Dear black people: This restaurant does not care about your patronage. Spend your dollars at restaurants that understand humans come in different shades, but all money is green.
I moved into the area a few months ago and I'm still finding my "go-to" restaurants. I've been here 2x before, but was always the only person there when picking up. This Sunday evening there were a couple of full tables when I walked in. There was also a gentleman who walked in behind me. I approached the front counter as the lady who has helped me the past times was finishing up with a guy's takeout order. The guy who walked in behind me stayed off to the side, but still near the counter. She looked at me then went to package up some food. While packaging, she kept looking at the guy who walked in behind me. I just KNEW she was going to help him first. Lol. This kind of microaggression is not new. Anyway, I was right. She said something to him in their language, he responded, and she moved down the counter to grab his order and handed it to him. I felt unacknowledged but figured that since she helped "her own" first, she'd at least help me now that there was no one else picking up. NOPE! She disappeared to the kitchen, then packaged up some food, then went to the register area. It was like I didn't exist. There was an older gentleman also behind the counter but he had been busy packaging food and hadn't engaged with the other customers. After standing there a couple of minutes, I said, "Excuse me. I was here before that other gentleman and you helped him first. I'm here to pick up for Grace." She looked at me but said nothing, then left through the doors to the kitchen. The older gentleman handed me my order right away, but didn't acknowledge my concern. I said, "thank you" and left knowing I'd never return.
The food is not good or bad, it's just ok. It's a shame to ever experience anti-blackness. Luckily there are a surplus of Chinese restaurants around and most of them are welcoming. :)
