The Best Matcha Shops in Seattle | Eater Seattle

"Working with tea farmers in Shizuoka, this shop hand-whisks matcha for hot or iced drinks and pours creative lattes in flavors like black sesame, lavender, butterfly pea flower, and strawberry, alongside simpler options like traditional or sparkling matcha. The first location is in Tacoma, with a second coming to Downtown Seattle, and you can also try your luck at getting a ceremonial matcha tin, which is available in limited quantities." - Aleenah Ansari

I love their matcha, it’s really good! I’ve been coming here whenever I need a refreshing drink. Their teas are handcrafted right in front of you, which is such a treat to watch. The atmosphere is super welcoming, with plenty of cozy seating where you can relax and enjoy the vibe. It’s especially nice after midterms or a long shift. Even when the line gets busy, you never feel rushed, it’s actually kind of calming. I’ve tried quite a few things on their menu. The range is impressive! Along with their ceremonial (premium) matcha from Japan, they also serve Hojicha, Chai, and Pu’er. Their rose matcha is especially popular, and for good reason, it tastes smooth and delicate with every sip. In the photo, I ordered the pistachio matcha, which has a buttery, earthy flavor that’s really satisfying. Though their hours are a bit limited, I think it adds to the charm. It feels like a place made for unwinding rather than just grabbing a quick drink. It can get busy, but the wait is totally worth it for something fresh and thoughtfully made.

Love love and love this place! It’s been years since I came back and it’s still the same amazing quality! It lives up to its name, if you spot this in your area don’t miss out! Last time I got the chai latte and today I got blueberry and strawberry matcha. The person helped us pick out what’s best for our palate (we are super indecisive). I personally like a drink on the sweeter side so I went for the blueberry matcha and it was super good. The matcha taste is the best I’ve had so far, not too strong or anything crazy. Plus this place is so cute! They even had a sign that says “hot girls drink matcha” which is so slay, such cute marketing I love it.

Google
Great place to get Matcha in Tacoma. The service was quick, lots of options to pick from. The cookie was OK and while I did have better matches than this place, I still would come back and recommend this place, especially since there’s not many in the area. We both got the strawberry Matcha latte and the black sesame Matcha latte.

Google
I’m not a matcha lover but I have to admit that this tea house could make me a believer! Ordered their seasonal blueberry matcha iced from their summer menu after asking for recommendations, and it’s truly spectacular. Beyond my expectations. Loved the freshness, the sweetness - and visually, it was pure beauty. Drank it all before I could take a pic. My iced hibiscus tea was also perfect on a sunny summer day. Will return - loved sipping refreshing tea in this beautiful space!

Google
The best matcha lattes I’ve EVER had!! Every drink I’ve gotten was crafted to perfection— just look at the color. Not overly sweet and the matcha taste is prominent even with different syrups. I’m actually addicted and am gonna be so sad when I have to leave WA. Friendly staff & super cute atmosphere as well.

I love love love Jin Jin! The staff is always so amazing, but I have to shout out Emma specifically. She welcomes me BY NAME every time I come in and is always in the best mood. Such a great addition to the amazing matcha from the shop. Hands down the best I’ve tasted, I’m here at least once a week.

Google
Been here since they first opened and I promise you nothing has changed!! Quality is always top tier and unlike most matcha shops, you can still taste the matcha without it being overpowered by other flavors. I usually come here after school just to study for a bit and I wholeheartedly trust Emma and Gabby to handle my drinks! Always loved interacting with them while we're all doing our own thing :) FYI, all these bad reviews talking about how the workers are rude are the same ones who have really bad entitlement issues... and it shows... tremendously... anyways still thinking about that cereal milk matcha </3

Google

Yelp
Jin Jin Matcha is top tier. I don't think any other cafe can top the quality of their matcha drinks. Glad to see their popularity is growing because there was a line out the door by the time we left! Anticipating for their second location to open up this summer in Seattle. This time around I ordered their Strawberry Matcha. It's their most popular and sweetest drink on the menu. It's made with ceremonial grade matcha poured over oat milk, and stirred with strawberry syrup. My sister ordered one of their seasonal drinks, the Matcha Lychee Lemonade. I was hesitant about how the drink would taste because it's not your typical matcha drink. Surprisingly still delicious and very refreshing.

Yelp
Food quality: so fresh and rich in flavor Service: quick and friendly Atmosphere: so relaxing and peaceful! Overall experience: great! Notes: love their seasonal and unique flavors. Very uplifting and delicious flavors. Can't wait to go back!

Yelp
Jin Jin is easily the best place to get Matcha in Tacoma! My go to is an iced strawberry Matcha with Oatmilk - absolutely delicious. The regular Matcha flavor is good as well, but the strawberry gives the perfect hint of sweetness but not overly sweet. Good customer service, and the cafe is very aesthetic. They have baked goods, yet they sell out early in the day so be sure to come early. Parking can be challenging but it's downtown Tacoma, on a good day you'll find a space right out front. Don't fret, there are some paid parking spaces just around the first corner. Make sure to pay as the parking police takes their job very serious and will give you a ticket.

Yelp
Very cute, aesthetic matcha shop in town. Staff was super friendly and helpful try to explain the menu for me :) And their matcha was so good.So far I tried Rose Matcha latte w oat milk, Condensed Jeju Matcha Latte w whole milk and they all taste so good.10/10 but if you dont feel like drinking milk like me sometimes, try their Lychee Lemonade Matcha Drink. I guarantee you will love it. It's not too heavy cause there's no milk and it's not too sweet. I'm in love with that drink. They also sell some merchandise that imported from Japan that looks really cute and cool. It's a place to show off with your friend and family from out of town and just having drinks together. They also gonna have another location open soon in downtown Seattle which is closer to me so I probably just go there everyday haha.

Yelp
Visited Jin Jin Matcha on a Sunday afternoon and was excited to find a spot offering matcha in the Tacoma area. There was a line to the door and all the seats were taken when we arrived. Drinks: I ordered the lavender matcha with less sugar and the condensed vanilla Jeju matcha. The lavender one had the perfect sweetness, but I wished the matcha flavor came through more. The pastry/ dessert were already sold out and couldn't order any. Ambiance: The space is minimalist and modern, a nice place to hang out if you can find a seat. Service: Staff were friendly and helpful, though they seemed a bit understaffed. Drinks came out in about 5 minutes. Street parking is available nearby.

Yelp
I was exciting to try their beverages but it turned out taste watery (: the matcha flavor isn't strong. Almond milk isn't a good one to blend in the drink.

Yelp
FINALLY got a chance to check out Jin Jin Matcha a few days ago while I was on my driving from Seattle to Portland for the week. I've heard lots of great things about Jin Jin, so I was pretty excited to check them out. They seem to have a good variety of drinks, and the staff were very friendly. The Butterfly Pea Flower Matcha Latte stood out to me, so I had to give it a try. The cashier asked if oat milk was fine, and I thought "sure?" I'm used to cafes asking if whole milk is fine so it was a bit surprising. Maybe they ran out of whole milk. My drink was pretty good, it might sound strange so I may be the only one, but it lowkey tasted like a chocolate chip mint ice cream as a drink. Does anything else think that? No? Just me? Okay... well it was still pretty good! I do wish I had this drink with whole milk though, I prefer a creamier texture and to be honest I'm not the biggest fan of oat milk (sorry!!). I would still recommend trying out the Butterfly Pea, but I am definitely coming back again this month to try other iced matcha latte. Tacoma deserves matcha as much as any other city, so I'm happy to see them around and excited to see them open up in Seattle as well! The matcha revolution is growing strong in the Pacific Northwest!

Yelp
I'm so happy there's a good matcha place in town! I got the pistachio iced matcha and the flavor was deep and robust. There were many options that I am excited to try next time! The service was nice and quick

Yelp
Amazing matcha place in downtown Tacoma. They are opening up another location in downtown Seattle ! The interior design is so clean and cute. There are tables to sit and yap w your friends. The drinks are delicious I love the strawberry matcha latte. My friend got the sesame matcha latte and it was very delicious as well ! Overall 10/10

Yelp
Really cool spot in downtown Tacoma. Vibes are on point, the decor is cool and the staff is really nice. I went with a friend and we got a few different drinks - the pistachio and strawberry matcha. Both were good to me. I'm not the biggest match expert, so take my words with a grain of salt but I did enjoy the experience. Price for each drink was about $9-10 after tax and tip. Not sure if that's the standard but just putting it out there!
google avatar

Yelp
My favorite matcha place so far! Being a Seattle local, I find it really challenging to find a good matcha latte but Jin Jin does it so good! It's a trek for me to get here but so worth it any time I am in Tacoma. So far, I have tried: - strawberry matcha - golden matcha - black sesame matcha - chai matcha - lavender matcha - butterfly pea matcha - brown sugar matcha - hojicha banana latte I love the service and the vibes so much! Has individual seating, a bigger table and merchandise as well.

Yelp
Third visit and I feel like every drink I get is better than the last. Just wish JinJin was closer to home, because I'd definitely visit more often. Service and quality of matcha are as always, on point. My sister tried JinJin for the first time today and absolutely loved her drink (banana matcha), she said the banana didn't taste artificial or overpower the matcha. She also loved the simplistic decor and airy feel to the shop. Already looking forward to my next visit and hopefully it's not months later!

Yelp
I've had a my fair share of chalky/ watered-down matcha from cafes, so I was initially skeptical of all the good reviews. I'm glad I decided to give Jin Jin a hit anyway because it was really delicious! I got the iced strawberry matcha latte and it was about $7 - expensive but typical for cafes nowadays. You couldn't really tell that it was a strawberry matcha from photos because their strawberry purée did not have that bright red color. To my pleasant surprise, the strawberry flavor was actually very prominent but did not overpower the matcha. The matcha had a nice green color to it and had just the mildest amount of grassiness to it, which I liked. The cafe itself is very spacious, cozy, and calming. I'll definitely be back to try other tea lattes.
google avatar

Dennis T.

Yelp
Ordered the strawberry matcha and it was really good. The matcha flavor isn't too strong and you can taste the strawberries that are in it. The service is always nice whenever I stop by. They are friendly and nice. The ambiance of the store is really nice. A lot of chairs and tables to sit at if you are coming in with a group. A nice coffee and tea place on downtown Tacoma if you are in the area.

Yelp
This matcha shop is so aesthetically pleasing! It's a small, clean, quiet and cozy shop. There's also outdoor seating when it's a nice day. They specialize in matcha so we knew it was going to be yummy. We ordered an iced vanilla matcha ($7.50) and an iced pistachio matcha ($7.50). Both drinks were delicious! We got to watch our drinks get made and it was an amazing experience. I can't wait to come again! I highly recommend!
google avatar

Jboogie L.

Yelp
Located in a downtown location. I wouldn't say it is too cozy but there were a lot of seats that were filled. I got the ceremonial matcha with agave syrup. $6.50/cup. I got diarrhea from drinking this because maybe it was very grassy and stimulated my bowel system pretty quickly. Overall good matcha experience.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is a great spot after a walk around Downtown Tacoma! The vibe of the store is so minimal and cozy inside, the menu is also easy to read and understand! The staff that I've encountered there are very friendly as well! I love that they hand whisk their matcha, really mixing it well! The drinks are also pretty good! The matcha flavor is there however any additional flavors (like strawberry, mint, etc) are pretty light. I guess it's good it doesn't taste too artificial :) Would come back to try a few other drinks!!

Yelp
I am shocked it took my so long to write a review for my favorite business in Tacoma. I have been enjoying matcha for a few years now. Good matcha is HARD to come by. Jin Jin makes the absolute best matcha lattes I have ever had in my life. My go-to order for pick up is a rose matcha latte with oat milk. Hot or iced, it doesn't even matter. Both are delicious. The staff is always super lovely as well. Never change Jin Jin
google avatar

Jenny G.

Yelp
Decent Matcha drinks. Strawberry matcha with oat milk is creamy, and strawberry is prominent with slight matcha taste. It is a bit on the sweeter side. The traditional matcha tea has matcha taste. I like that the matcha is not too floral like some. The lady staff is sooo nice. She takes her time to explain to us the type of matcha she uses. If you are visiting Tacoma, give it a try.

Malia K.

Yelp
This quirky and stylish spot is a great place to grab a refreshing drink. LOVE their summer special menu and adored the blueberry matcha iced. Pure decadence. Feel free to ask for recommendations or to make requests - staff was friendly and super helpful to the "matcha impaired" me! Will definitely swing by if in the area again!

Yelp
What an exquisite cafe!!! It's absolutely gorgeous inside with a great zen vibe. The matcha selections are phenomenal. I've tried their black sesame matcha hot and their blueberry matcha cold. Both are so delicious and the flavors are perfectly paired. Service is excellent! The drinks are presented so beautifully too!

Cotton B.

Yelp
Sorry Seattle, this is the best matcha. 10/10 I'm embarrassed to admit, I found this place on tiktok. But the beauty of the internet is sharing! Their menu is big and satisfying if you have various flavor profiles you're looking to try or want specifically. The staff were so sweet to answer any questions about their offerings. The staff hand whisked each drink too! I ordered the misugaru matcha latte which has a nutty, slightly earthy, warm, toasted taste from all the grains, beans, rice and etc. the flavor was well balanced and the matcha was not bitter nor overshadowed. I was reassured that the misagaru powder wouldnt be grainy and was happy to find that it wasn't at all! Usually with matcha places, it's hard to find that striking balance of good quality matcha prepared well, sweetner, cream, syrups, etc, too dense, too watery...and being able to taste all the ingredient and a drink that is designed well. Jin jin sets the bar high for me! The vibe of the place is also classy and fun to see all the little complementary items they sell. From lovely glassware, soaps, whisking sets, chocolates. It almost has a certain lifestyle aesthetic. Would be super nice if you wanted to meet someone here and chat, study, quietly relax.

Yelp
This place blew my mind away. I've always been skeptical of matcha cause it's usually either watered down, overpowered by the jam, or gritty. This stuff was amazing! I got the strawberry matcha it was so good, smooth, not overly sweet or watered down. I came back the same day to try it again. Service was great and quick and the ambiance of the place was really cute. Would come back if nearby!
google avatar

Cindy H.

Yelp
The matcha here is one of the better grade matchas I've had. They offer a variety of drinks that compliments well with their matcha. From yuzu, to peaflower to matcha lattes with your choice of milk. My summer favorite is the sparkling matcha. It's simple, refreshing and brings out the matcha flavor without any other added flavors to that would've outshined the matcha. They also sell small baked goodies if you're looking for a bite to eat.
google avatar

Yesenia G.

Yelp
no joke some of the best matcha i've had! the matcha-ista was super helpful helping us choose our drink flavors & curating them to order. the spot is so cute and cozy, WILL be back!!
google avatar

Grace K.

Yelp
Good grade matcha! Loved the drink. But not good service, Not a lot of seatings inside although it's spacious room. Chairs are not comfy. Not sure if I will go back.
google avatar

Veronica L.

Yelp
We walked into the matcha shop hoping for a good drink but ended up with a bad experience all around. The young girl with shoulder hair length at the front barely acknowledged us--no greeting, no smile, just a curt "What you want?" We placed our order, and she responded with a blunt "Whole or oat?"--still no "please" or "thank you." We asked for whole milk, but she gave us oat milk instead. When our drinks were ready, she slammed them on the counter like we were asking for a free handout. And the worst part? The matcha itself was disappointing--way too much milk, overly sweet like straight syrup, and still clumpy. It tasted more like flavored milk than actual matcha. Between the bad attitude and bad drink, it's safe to say we won't be coming back.

Yelp
Headed here to caffeinate before a museum date with my man. This place is definitely cute. But I fear it's overrated. My bf ordered the strawberry matcha, and I ordered the matcha chai. The good: Ambience was on point, casual and cute. There's shelving in the place and a big game table (not sure what game but it reminds me of HunterxHunter:). On the shelving sits various matcha products: whisks, powder, cups, teapots, etc. available for purchase. Very very cute vibes. The bad: The drinks themselves were in my opinion just god awful. I love matcha and for other reviewers to rave and say it's "the best matcha in WA" that they "travel for" is so crazy to me because I feel the quality is overstated and overrated, while the flavor was criminally understated. The actual flavors of what we ordered were not coming through enough. $7.50 is pretty standard for a drink nowadays but at the very least it could taste good. The ugly: The most customization they have is milk type (and as a long time lactose intolerant person, their non-dairy milks don't taste good!) I wish they had hemp milk as an option. It was our first time in and I'm informed by barista when I place my order that they are not allowed to modify drinks (aka "stray from the menu") at ALL. No customizations, substitutions, additions, etc. She says this is due to the owner's preferences.. I get it's the owners business and you choose how you run it, but I really can't add vanilla to my matcha chai? :/ The drink I got tasted like water with a breath of matcha and probably the most bland chai concentrate ever. The strawberry matcha my man got was the better of our two drinks, i was expecting a strawberry puree or cheong but it tasted like strawberry milk (which is good and my bf liked it, it just doesn't give a balanced tasting strawberry matcha). My boyfriend comments on how it was bitter because of this imbalance, yet the sweetness of the strawberry tasted artificial. All in all, would not return or recommend to a friend.
google avatar

Yelp
I was craving black sesame something and this place showed up. This is now my go to matcha place. I have been here a handful of times. The studio is a calm venue with almost enough seating depending on if you're in the middle of a rush or not. The service is great and they hand whisk the matcha which is a huge plus. Will be coming back.
google avatar

Leilani S.

Yelp
I love Jin Jin! The drinks are amazing. The magical matcha makers are always so sweet and welcoming. The vibe is so cute. Some times they do run out of matcha.
google avatar

Courtney K.

Yelp
Was here for competition this week, coworkers, absolutely raved about this spot! My coworker got the black sesame, as well as the strawberry Matcha both loved a lot. I got the banana latte and it was delicious. I like my drinks a little bit sweeter and let the barista know, they said that they could make it sweeter to taste. Good customer service and high-quality taste. For banana latte
google avatar

Sofia P.

Yelp
Not your typical matcha place, I was looking for something more unique and not a lot of caffeine as I came here in the evening. The barista was very helpful and friendly. The hojicha latte hit the spot; and it had an earthy, nutty flavor that was on the border of being bitter but it was perfectly balanced out with a pump of vanilla.

Khulan E.

Yelp
I make a 30 min drive just for their matcha almost weekly. I wish their hours were a bit longer so I can come after work. The place is nicely laid out. My friend and I support the owners. They are very friendly and accommodating.
google avatar

Seleyna S.

Yelp
Ceremony grade matcha! No corner cutting here. Absolutely adorable little place and I strongly recommend the strawberry matcha ! Thank you for providing an amazing cup of green happiness

Yelp
Came here for a live music thing they were having one night. Based on what I saw from their social media, they just opened a few months ago last year and sell high quality matcha drinks. I enjoy matcha but hochija even more, which I saw they had. So on a Friday evening we swung by (they normally close at 4 pm or something) to enjoy the music and the drinks. There is limited street parking in front and along the streets down the block, and a few paid parking lots. Luckily it was free parking after a certain time, which I think was 6 or 7 pm. Upon entering we were entranced by a very intimate candle lit scene. I almost thought there was some fancy limited seating romantic dinner going on. The aesthetic was very minimalist, natural, and calming. They have the bar/counter where you order, drink preparation on the right and some baked goods and a refrigerated grab and go shelf on the left. They have some two-person seating along the windows and a long table near the back wall. They were also playing vinyl tonight before the performance. We ordered their classic matcha latte and hochija latte. The drinks were made expertly, with beautiful latte art, served in the to-go coffee cups. I loved my hochija latte - it had sesame milk and just a touch of syrup. The matcha latte was very clean and grassy, but a little too light and bitter. I think it would work a little better to bring it the matcha flavor more using coconut milk or almond milk and adding a hint of sweetness, maybe a matcha syrup or something. Price was your typical high end coffee shop, around $5-$7 per drink, so worth it if you consider this a treat now and then, especially because of the quality. As for the live music that night, we got to enjoy some lovely singing, guitar and cello from Chelsey Scheffe. It was really nice. We enjoyed it. Definitely a nice space for high quality tea lattes, snacks, and intimate venue supporting local artists. Wouldn't mind coming back periodically to treat myself to their drinks and snacks if I find myself this way in the morning or afternoons!

Yelp
the BEST matcha i've had in washington! they have seasonal flavors & use ceremonial grade & hand whisk all their matcha! the blueberry matcha with oatmilk was my favorite !!!

Yelp
Super cute spot. Cool location. Decent amount of Matcha menu options (and more) Friendly staff who gave great recommendations. I got the pistachio matcha and my friend got the strawberry matcha. SO GOOD!

Elexyss L.

Yelp
I love Jin Jin Matcha! The first time I visited, I came back 3 more times that week. I really enjoy their strawberry matcha with oak milk. Their hochija is pretty good as well as their baked goods. Their service is always phenomenal and they get the drinks out pretty fast! There are some tables and stools to chill at as well. It is in downtown Tacoma, so you will need to find street parking. I haven't had any issues with parking, so I find Jin Jin to be a great matcha spot!

Margarita K.

Yelp
Best matcha in town! I'm more of a coffee drinker and was never really into matcha but this place is the best matcha I've ever tried! I get the iced strawberry oat milk matcha with half the sweetener and it's the perfect drink!
google avatar

Ximena Z.

Yelp
Ambiance was great, but matcha was very bland/average, just tasted like milk with a hint of matcha. The lavender matcha lattes I make at home are better :/

Yelp
this is a really cute cafe in downtown tacoma. it's such a nice, bright, and quaint spot. it has several small seating areas and one large communal table, when it's busy it might be hard to get a seat, but seems like a lot of people just grab and go. they specialize in matcha, and hand whisk each drink to order, which is nice! they have a lot of fun flavors on their menu, we tried the misugaru and black sesame matcha lattes. i enjoyed the misugaru one more, it was sweet and tasted just like cereal/grains. i will say the matcha doesnt come through as much as i would like, but maybe it's because i got a flavored one. i think next time i will just try a plain/vanilla matcha latte.

Kayla Z.

Yelp
I normally never write reviews. I wanted to try matcha for the first time and THIS place is perfect! They use ceremonial grade and the flavor and choices are satisfying. I tried their seasonal Jeju Matcha with condensed milk and vanilla and their Matcha croissant puff. This is probably the best thing I've tasted in so long! The cafe itself has a nice calm ambience and the person working there is very sweet. Will be coming back to try new items
google avatar

Yelp
This is matcha heaven. I ordered the strawberry matcha latte, and it was absolutely delicious! The matcha was rich and smooth, perfectly balanced with the sweet and tangy notes of strawberry. The ambiance inside is super cute and has artsy furniture that adds a unique charm to the place. There is metered parking around the corner, which makes it convenient to visit. Great place for matcha and tea lovers!

Elizabeth M.

Yelp
Strawberry matcha with whole milk is pretty good! It's sweet, wish they added less milk , more matcha. The workers are pretty mellow, it's a quiet place.
google avatar

Giena L.

Yelp
Yum! All things matcha here. I wish there was a matcha tasting flight, there's so many things to try! I want to try them all. I think you'd be satisfied with whatever you drink you ordered. So many matcha options, hot and cold, and other tea options as well. Support local!

Yelp
A spontaneous trip still sometimes requires some planning ahead and a little bit of research when it comes to food and drinks.. and I already knew that my first time in Tacoma, that I wanted to secure a location that had good matcha.. Needless to say, I was not disappointed. This little, quaint shop provides amazing matcha drinks and offers wonderful ambiance to give people a much needed break from the stress of everyday life. Friendly service and a relaxing atmosphere.. I enjoyed it greatly!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely phenomenal selection of unique and delicious matcha drinks. Perfectly made and feels like such a treat when I get something here. My go to is anything on the menu with strawberry incorporated

Yelp
Customer service was great, drinks were great, and vibe was lovely! I got the hot lavender matcha. It was so tasty! I also had the savory pinwheel pastry, it was also delicious as well and big enough to share :)
