1515 West Chophouse

"They’ve certainly nailed the classic American look at this nicely styled chophouse. Start with a cocktail in the masculine, wood panelled bar before passing by the inviting bakery into the restaurant. All the favourite steakhouse dishes are here, from Caesar salad mixed at the table to steak tartare and cheesecake. However, it’s the grill that takes centre stage – the various cuts of dry-aged Australian beef are chargrilled to perfection." - Michelin Inspector

Summer Palace

"This smart and sumptuously decorated Cantonese restaurant is divided into three distinct areas, each serving a different speciality. You'll find dim sum in the Pantry, claypot dishes in the Lantern and sophisticated Cantonese classics in the Imperial. Every facet of Cantonese cuisine is covered, alongside seasonal offerings such as hairy crabmeat and roe for a Shanghai twist. The private rooms are impressive, as is the wine list." - Michelin Inspector

"Hotel heavyweights Kohn Pederson Fox Associates and Hirsch Bedner Associates masterminded the look and feel of Shangri-La’s third property in Shanghai , opened in June 2013 on the Puxi side of the Huangpu River. The centerpiece of the 4.8-million-square-feet mixed-use complex Jing An Kerry Center, located near Metro Lines 2 and 7, the property occupies the top 29 floors of the 60-story tower. In rooms, pops of color and rosewood paneling accent the silvery design scheme, and bathrooms have heated marble floors, satin glass, beveled mirrors, and separate bathtubs and stand-alone showers. Crystal appears liberally throughout the property—more than 4 million pieces of it, from the canopy of lighted crystal rods above the porte cochere to the floating crystal clouds that appear over the Event Center’s driveway. More than 200 pieces of art by 50 international artists further enliven public areas."

Jing An Shangri-La West Shanghai (Shanghai, China) 1 Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"In case you’re not already familiar with the Shangri-La brand, here’s a hint: it’s all in the name. Asia’s über-luxurious five-star hotels feel, indeed, like some sort of earthly paradise. Provided that you’re not a “less is more” type — because here, more is always more. This is as true in the brand’s original landmark, built in Singapore in 1971, as it is in its opulent contemporary outposts, including the Jing An Shangri-La West Shanghai." - Tablet Hotels

A truly outstanding hotel! The Jing Shangri-La impresses with its excellent location, elegant atmosphere, and consistently friendly and attentive staff. From the very first moment, you feel genuinely welcomed and well taken care of. A special highlight is the exceptional hotel bar on the 4th floor – true excellence at its finest. Outstanding drinks, stylish design, and a unique atmosphere that perfectly completes the experience. Highly recommended – I would definitely come back again.

Was there on my 24 hrs off from business meetings. Wanted to stay in the cool area where I can walk to French Concession and Bund (that is a bit far of a walk but doable). The hotel is lux - as also indicative of a crowd. Located in Jing An area, that is upscale shopping area (akin to Madison Ave in NYC). Hotel is gorgeous, offering amazing views of beautiful Shanghai. Room is comfortable with all the amenities (no Japanese toilet, unfortunately). Breakfast is plentiful. Service is impeccable. Hotel is an easy walk to French Concession, down the street from a fancy mall with really good dim sum. Hotel has a nice restaurant and bar on the 4rth floor. Bund district is either an hour walk or a 20 min taxi ride. Airport is about an hour. Traffic in Shanghai is insane so plan accordingly. Take a ride up one of the multitude of towers in Bund district to appreciate the views. And have a red rice wine latte in one of the cute coffee shops. Great place to visit

Excellent hotel and location. Right by everything. Staff was wonderful, bell boys were great- they called us cabs daily. Food was wonderful (the buffet was actually a great perk each morning), and they had tons of spaces to do work. I even did a livestream downstairs. And the room had a fantastic view. Also wonderful gym.

Inspired by the idyllic paradise depicted in "Lost Horizon," Shangri-La set out from Asia and embraced the warm, refined philosophy of Chinese hospitality, gradually winning the hearts of guests worldwide. As early as the 1970s, Shangri-La had plans to establish a presence at the Bund in Shanghai. While that vision did not materialize at the time, the brand eventually entered the Shanghai market with its first property at Shanghai Centre. This was followed by the openings of Pudong Shangri-La, Jing An Shangri-La, Qiantan Shangri-La, and Hongqiao Airport Shangri-La. Together, these hotels have become integral to the evolution of Shanghai’s hospitality landscape.||Located in the heart of West Bank of Yangtze River, Jing An Shangri-La Shanghai is the brand’s second property in the city. This urban sanctuary stands atop the Jing An Kerry Centre, and its striking silhouette often catches the eye of those passing by on the Yan’an Elevated Road. Soaring above the clouds, it offers sweeping views of the city’s skyline. As one of the flagship properties in mainland China, my recent short stay in Shanghai finally gave me the opportunity to experience it firsthand.||While the design of Jing An Shangri-La may not aim to dazzle, it exudes a sense of timeless elegance through its attention to detail. Having opened in 2013, the hotel still showcases thoughtful material selection and meticulous maintenance even after more than a decade. It retains Shangri-La’s signature understated sophistication while incorporating a more contemporary lightness, thanks to HBA’s design touches. The overall atmosphere remains comforting and reassuring.||It is perhaps these subtle balances that form the foundation of the hotel’s enduring appeal. Situated in the city’s core, it boasts unobstructed views and is supported by the well-established Kerry Centre, which offers comprehensive amenities, high-end meeting facilities, and efficient operational capabilities. From the very beginning, the hotel has cemented its status as an irreplaceable business landmark. With its solid hardware, consistent quality, and deep understanding of business travelers’ needs, it continues to attract a steady stream of guests. It may not be the most profitable hotel in China, but it is said to be one of the most financially successful properties within the Shangri-La group. Without relying on marketing gimmicks or chasing trends, it stands quietly high above Jing An, securely ensuring its lasting success.

I stayed here last week and, unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the hotel's 5-star reputation. My entire floor constantly smelled of cigarette smoke due to other guests smoking in their rooms, which made for an unpleasant stay. Additionally, my experience at the in-house Chinese restaurant was poor. Despite being the second person seated right at opening, I was completely ignored while later arrivals received their food. I eventually had to flag someone down just to place an order. For a luxury hotel, I expected much better attention to detail and policy enforcement.

Back to the top. Last time, I noted four points regarding the lack of service, the quality of the breakfast and the standard of the lounge. I am happy to report that they are back! I was at the Shangri La Jing An twice this week and I have to say… outstanding in all departments! Thank you for the great days, and I look forward to seeing you in January.

Lives up to the name. You cannot go too wrong with Shangrila branding. I wished the toilet was designed better. The layout was a bit strange. But otherwise everything was great. Unbeatable location - so near everything!
