Beef & Liberty (Jingan)

"For those times when only a burger will do, there is Beef & Liberty. New Zealand grass-fed beef is ground in-house twice a day, in time for lunch and dinner, and then served in homemade buns. The ribeye burger boasts a juicy, 220g patty cooked medium or medium-well, alongside caramelised onions, mustard mayo and cheese. Their super-rich milkshake, made with just ice cream and whipping cream, is also well worth a try." - Michelin Inspector

Oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai dating back as far as 730 years. This temple is a tranquil oasis surrounded by the busy life of Shanghai. There is a small entrance fee to pay but worth the visit. Bring some coins as well to throw into the massive shrine in the middle of the temple it brings luck and fortune.

This is a really well-maintained Buddhism temple and it resides in a modern commercial district. The temple is just next to the subway station, in which the building is also made corresponding to this temple. It is not a huge temple but worships many Buddhist gods. In the ground, you can burn incense and pray. Besides, there is a tall incense burning tower that is actually not used for burning incense but for coin tossing. People believe if they can throw a coin into the tower from its windows, they will have good blessings. There are monks sitting in the hallway to answer questions from people. I love the atmosphere here, it is a kind of solemn relaxation. Everyone can talk their own stories to the buddha and pray for good things. I went there on the last day of 2024. There were many people, for praying, for touring, or just for relaxing. It is really interesting in Shanghai, such a modern metropolis, so many people work with technologies but live with traditional beliefs.

Jing'an Temple is absolutely stunning—a serene oasis of golden roofs and intricate architecture, standing in striking contrast against Shanghai's modern skyline. The way this ancient temple holds its own among towering skyscrapers is mesmerizing. Whether you're admiring the grand Buddha statues, listening to monks chant, or just soaking in the peaceful atmosphere, it's a must-visit spot that perfectly blends history with the city's vibrant energy.

Jing’an Temple is a Buddhist temple located at one big beautiful compound just in between modern building and luxurious shopping center in Shanghai. It was first built in 247 AD. Very well maintained, beautifully decorated and served as monastery too. The famous icon of four faces Lions in gold pillar stand tall stunningly.

Beautiful Jing An’ Temple it used to be free. but now you have to pay to enter £5 per person (50 yuan) but it’s really worth the visit. You don’t need to buy tickets in advance there’s a special queue where you can just go pay and enter.

Jing’an Temple is a large temple located in the central area of Shanghai. The interior is magnificent and golden—it’s a pity we didn’t get to see it at night; it would probably be stunning. There are many places inside where you can pray and make offerings. They also sell souvenirs and charms for safety and peace. In the middle, there’s a tall tower where you can toss coins to wish for safety, good fortune, and prosperity. It’s definitely a great spot for sightseeing.

Wonderful architecture! The temple is really full of people, but still feeling calm and relax. The gate fee is 50 RMB which is easily paid by both cash and alipay, and this is super worthy. I and my friend just followed local people to respect the holy gods. There are connecting bridges to walk around the temple. The incense smoke is all around the area, that made the temple more sacred. Highly recommend!!!

Its history can be traced back to the 10th year of Chiwu (247 AD) during the Three Kingdoms period. The entire temple is built with a temple in front and a pagoda in the back. It consists of three main buildings: the Great Hall, the Hall of Heavenly Kings, and the Hall of Three Saints. It is the oldest Buddhist temple in Shanghai. Jing'an Temple is one of the national key Buddhist temples in the Han area and one of the ancient Shingon temples in Shanghai.
