NYC Restaurants and Pop-Up Bars Decked Out for the Holidays

"Starting November 18, all three floors of the Dead Rabbit transforms into an Irish Christmas celebration. Jingle Jangle — now in its third year — offers festive drinks and a decadent decor. My friends and I were looking forward to this experience on our trip to the city, but unfortunately we did not get the experience we had hoped for. We booked the beautifully decorated Tavern that we walked into when we arrived with amazing views. We approached the hostess who notified us that we would not be sitting in the restaurant but be seated outside. I did speak up and say that I was under the impression that we would be inside the restaurant per the reservation in which I was told “this is part of the restaurant.” We were lead outside to this area that had very minimal heat, and minimal views. I will say it was decorated for Christmas which was nice. We had a party of four and our table was so small we had to hold our drinks in our hands so our appetizers would fit on our table. My friends and I did order the drinks which did have a holiday theme and the menu was small but the appetizers were decent. We just were so cold it was hard to think about making it to dinner. A staff member was very kind and helpful and actually told us that this area was not suppose to be for dinner it was just a “lounge” area for people outside the ice skating area, which made perfect sense with how cold It was and the lack of space for dining. We decided once we leaned this it was time to just cut our experience short. Per this staff member that they had overbooked tonight and this is why we were seated here. I usually do not post reviews, but just was expecting a much better experience after our research. I hope this was just an off night and others will have a much better experience than my friends and I. I was also disappointed in how I feel there was no desire to even try to accommodate.

This pop-up is managed by the Pier 17 Management Company (not Dead Rabbit). They canceled my reservation just a week before the date, claiming it was due to overbooking. In reality, the venue had been bought out. Why not just be honest? They also claimed they would arrange alternatives but never followed up or answered calls afterward. Overall, a very disappointing and unprofessional experience with this team. We were able to be accommodated by the Dead Rabbit in Fidi, which is the better bar you should go to!

Me and my group of 5 friends were so incredibly excited to dine at this beautiful establishment. We had the cottages on our list of places to go for weeks! We arrived and were immediately greeted by a very confused hostess who did little to make us feel welcomed. We all got the feeling that it was just wrong for us to even be there asking for a table. At one point we were all looking at each other questioning “can we even eat here or not?” After talking in circles with the hostess we were eventually told that they cannot handle doing more than two of the little cottages at a time due to staffing reasons. I understand being overwhelmed when understaffed, that’s not the problem, but why even advertise the cottages when you can’t even seat more than two at a time the weekend before Christmas? It was a complete waste of time and we ended up leaving and dining at one of the restaurant just downstairs.

Seasonal bar, very festive from November to early January. Ceiling covered in decorations and the bar channels its Belfast roots.

The massive ice block is half a drink. Ridiculous.
