When Chefs Become Storytellers

"Chi Kinjo, another venue by Coterie Concepts, features a modern sushi restaurant and basement bar inspired by Mona's Japanese love rival. The venue's story is integrated into its offerings and staff interactions, enhancing its thematic appeal." - Rachel Tan

Just visited Jinjo at Shaw Centre, Singapore — a modern sumiyaki spot where traditional Japanese charcoal-grilling meets a cozy, contemporary setting. The prefecture-focused menu showcases the best of Japanese charcoal mastery, with each dish infused with a delicious smokiness. Portions were small and delicately presented - perfect for sharing. While no single dish particularly stole the show for me, the overall experience was solid and enjoyable, especially when catching up with a friend from overseas. Special shoutout to the service team - warm, friendly, and impressively attentive, making the meal feel even more welcoming. If you're looking for a laid-back, well-executed Japanese grill experience in town, Jinjo is worth checking out.

Food taste is good but the service is poor. The waitress dont bother to explain much even it is first timer to the restaurant. Place can get noisy when it is crowded. The unagi claypot rice can be better but the waitress mashed all the unagi with the rice. You can't really eat the meat.

The grilled food here is delicious. The truffle chawanmushi has a very light texture. We ordered many dishes but my favourite for the night is the grilled pork ribs that comes with fried garlic and kimchi at the side. The grilled chicken meat balls were soft, juicy and flavorful.

Superb grilled kushiyaki esp the chicken wings and momo. The chawanmushi was also divine altho on the smallish size. Fantastic service by Don who saw to our every need even when my dinner companion wanted an oolong tea and he went all the way out to get one despite it not being on the menu. Great recommendation on dishes by him as well. Kudos to this man !

The highlight here would definitely be the service. Staffs were attentive and friendly. Shout out to Alvin and team who made the lunch incredible. Food was great. Especially the different varieties of skewers available. Try the Bishops Nose - burst of flavour from the fats Unagi omelette - omelette was fluffy and complimented the umami and charred flavours from the unagi Beef lunch set - beef was thinlu sliced, tender and flavourful. Do give it a try for their lunch set as they are offering 50% off for the 2nd set.

The food was amazing, as expected from the Les Amis Group. You must try the Kotsuzui (Bone Marrow) and Yaki Goma Tofu. I'm sure their version of these dishes are something you won't find anywhere else. The Tontoro, while delicious, could have done with a side of rice. It was simply too much to digest on its own. While my server was lovely, the preference for wine drinkers was a tad too blatant across the board. And this is despite me having spent over $150 on just 1 person. They also served me the wrong dish by accident (Thank god I didn't eat it, I hate monkfish).

Google
Unagi dishes which were marinated and cooked to perfection respectively. The various grilled dishes were executed impeccably as well - such as the Miso Cod with smoked Daiko Tsukemono on the side and all the different types of yakitori! Food quality is nice and a must try if you are at this area. Truffle Charawunshi is super nice

Yelp
I've been here twice and the food does not disappoint. Service can be a bit slow and at times inattentive but don't let that stop you. The yakitori here is as good as some of the yakitori I've had in Japan, with the smoky and delicious flavors going straight to your mouth but not on your clothes! I love the chicken skin, gizzard, and chicken thigh. The seasonal vegetable skewers are also amazing, the Japanese onion was incredibly sweet. Don't forgot their small plates either, the tomato cold dish was a very simply dressed excellent momotaro tomato. The grilled pork dishes, bone marrow and more unusual items like the monaka wagyu were all excellent. At the end of the meal, it's always nice to round things off with their claypot rice. While the truffle one is good, I prefer their seasonal pots - I've had the fresh bamboo shoot (in spring) and the hairy crab (in summer). Both were ridiculously good. Oh and the sake recommendations are great, ask if you haven't a clue like me and they'll recommend a great pairing. I'm already looking for my next excuse to go there :)

Yelp
Will be a favorite splurge for yakitori. Food quality is high and fresh. Grilled dishes are perfectly cooked. But pricey!
