The 25 Best Sushi Restaurants In Los Angeles

"You’ve no doubt stumbled past Jinpachi on a late night out in Weho and wondered what actually goes on there. Well, we can tell you—really, really good sushi goes on there. Jinpachi is one of our favorite sushi spots in Central LA and it starts and ends with their omakase: quality, crowd-pleasing cuts of fish in a calm atmosphere. It’ll run around $150 (or more, it's billed at market price), so if you’re looking for something more affordable, their $50 special with eight nigiri and a roll is also excellent." - garrett snyder, brant cox, sylvio martins

The 19 Best Restaurants In West Hollywood

"Being a high-end sushi bar within walking distance of Sushi Park can be a tough gig, but Jinpachi has found a way to do it. Located in Boystown, you may have stumbled past Jinpachi after too many vodka sodas at Hi Tops and not even realized it. But this spot is serving high-quality sushi at half the cost of its famous neighbor on Sunset. If you aren’t looking to go all-in on the $100 omakase, they have excellent lunch specials, sashimi bowls, and a spicy crispy rice you need immediately. " - brant cox, nikko duren

Jinpachi Review - West Hollywood - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"If you’re heading down to Santa Monica Blvd. between La Cienega and Robertson, chances are you’re looking for vodka sodas, crowded dance floors, and a cheap slice of pizza you can throw into your mouth on your way home. You’ll spot a few chain salad spots, a yogurt shop, and a Guisados nobody goes to, but the reality is, this part of Weho has very little in the way of actual dining - making Jinpachi all the more essential. Located a half block down from the totes masc/jock/bro Gym bar, the first thing to realize about Jinpachi is you probably don’t even realize it’s there. And if you have happened to notice it one night while crawling back to your apartment, you’re unclear what actually happens inside. So we’ll tell you - really fantastic, relatively affordable sushi happens inside. photo credit: Jakob Layman Now, to be clear, you can drop some serious money if you want to at Jinpachi. Their omakase situation generally runs in the $150 range and no matter who you are, that’s a big chunk of change to drop on raw fish. Is that omakase worth it? You bet. But it’s not every day you’re looking to drop a monthly utilities bill at lunch either. The good news is Jinpachi’s prices drop off considerably beyond the omakase, prices drop off considerably. Especially their crispy rice with spicy tuna (yes, you need this here), all their simple rolls, and the fantastic yellowtail carpaccio. If you’re looking to mix and match a bit, their premium sushi combo gets you eight cuts of whatever the chef chooses and a roll. Considering how good this sushi is, you’re not going to find a better value than that. The point of all this, however, is not to bargain hunt your way through Jinpachi’s menu. The point is that this small, subdued sushi joint is absolutely worth driving to - and having some affordable options is simply the bonus. Whether you’re using this place as a solo lunch spot you never invite your coworkers to, or for a second date when you want to show that you know more about LA sushi than Sugarfish, Jinpachi is the quiet power move. Let the rest of the neighborhood get rowdy tonight. Food Rundown photo credit: Jakob Layman Crispy Rice With Spicy Tuna There are many versions of this dish around town, but we’ll tell you right now this is the best one. The spicy tuna on top is as fresh as it gets, but it’s that glorious block of perfectly crisp rice underneath that takes it to the next level. photo credit: Jako Layman Yellowtail Carpaccio Jinpachi has a few different carpaccios on the menu, but the yellowtail is our favorite. The slices are actually massive and that jalapeno off to the side is the added little kick we all need in life. photo credit: Jakob Layman Sushi Moriawase This eight-piece sushi platter with a full roll (not to mention soup and salad) is one of the best sushi deals in LA. All the fish (chef’s choice) is fantastic but if you can, request the toro. It’s insane. Omakase $150 for omakase is a lot of money. But we can assure you this is among the best in the city. Expect 25+ dishes, ranging from clam miso soup to uni-topped oysters to a cream cheese dessert pudding, and expect all of them to be tremendous." - Brant Cox

Google
This is an effortlessly chic sushi restaurant. Healthy mix of couples, friends and solo eaters. It’s easy to sink into the dark wooded, close quarters venue with soft jazz as background noise behind the bustling of the staff. Infatuation will tell you to order the crispy rice with spicy tuna and sushi moriawise, which a lot of folks were getting. If you have the $200/person (after tax and tip), it’s a special omakase. The ocean trout with kelp is non-pareil, sweet and umami flavors. Worth a visit.

Google
Jinpachi is some of the best quality and best prepared sushi in Los Angeles. The chefs were very talented and friendly and enjoyed explaining the preparation of each fish. This is the type of sushi ya that carefully adds a little flavor to each piece of sushi and it works phenomenally. The atmosphere is slightly upscale but still relaxed and intimate. Despite the great quality we were a little disappointed that their online menu was not up to date. The prices in restaurant are twice as much as was listed online. I realize this isn’t necessarily the restaurants fault, nor the chef or staff but we weren’t able to order as much as we had hoped to. Additionally, 10 pieces of sushi, a miso soup and 1 drink (beer) ran us $125 per person with tip.

Google
Very delicious sushi spot that just blends in with majority of the closed shops near it, especially since the entrance was roped off as if it was actually closed, from the outside. If you’re looking for a kikkoman soy sauce spot, this isn’t for you. Ordered two carpaccios, one with fresh wasabi and ponzu, can’t remember the fish, and another carpaccio, think either halibut or albacore, that had yuzu juice and mushroom and those two dishes were phenomenal. Every bite was simply amazing and irresistible. Great fish quality, not a single piece was questionable in appearance, texture, taste; the quality was delicious. The assorted tempura was crunchy, the batter didn’t disintegrate when you dipped it and didn’t break up when you were biting it. A delicious batter that kept its integrity and highlighted the beauty of each ingredient being used. Loved having a tempura mushroom and the white fish was a unique and different touch. The nigiri- where the begin. All of it was delicious. For a party of two, we each walked away with eating $190 each which is a lot for how much we ordered truthfully but because the quality of the food was better that majority of the places we had, it was worth it and can’t wait to go back. No alcohol either. It was a treat to eat here and treat ourselves. The most delectable and fragile scallops that just melt in your mouth, the albacore was a dance in your mouth as well as anything else that had a drop of yuzu on it. Ended my experience with uni and it was pure velvet. The most underwhelming item I ate was a spicy tuna since I was genuinely curious but I wouldn’t order that again and just stick with nigiri. Each nigiri order is 1 piece and sashimi is 2 pieces. Thank you Jinpachi for a cozy atmosphere and a delicious treat- can’t wait for more!

Staying in West Hollywood for work and not crazy about the area or well versed. Saw this mentioned in the Infatuation and was truly impressed. Totally unassuming spot but delicious really high quality fish. The yellowtail jalapeño yum! Definitely expensive but worth it.

This was the place my husband propsed to me. We had been here many times over the years and the quality is always on point. It can be hard to get a seat but it's worth the wait.

Google
YES YES YES!! Jinpachi is no question one of the best sushi spots in LA. it is unassuming and authentic; the owners are from japan and the fish is fresh and absolutely delicious. I was a regular at Jinpachi when they opened in 2007, then moved away… and after 15 years they are still absolutely top notch! Highly recommend the carpaccios (all of them) and also the spicy tuna crispy rice is a MUST. can’t wait to come back on my next trip to LA.

Prices need to be updated. This menu was from about 10 years ago and sushi was 2x expensive ($56 vs $28).

Yelp
Wow- This was my first omakase experience and it blew me away. All the seafood was so fresh and had impeccable taste. One of the dishes is raw oysters and as someone who doesn't really like raw oysters, these were full of flavor and super fresh (no slimy textures here!). Each plate was curated to perfection and I will say the halibut with truffle and yuzu was one of my favorites of the night. The staff are great and quick to bring on the plates as you enjoy your experience. Jinpachi is a small restaurant, but it has two levels with a bar on the first level and seating on the second floor. I will have to come back again and try more for myself!

Yelp
Jinpachi might just be my favorite sushi restaurant in all of LA, which is a bold claim but everything was freaking delicious. Cute and simple interior - everything is focused on ensuring you have a good meal with great and attentive service. I definitely recommend making a reservation. We had the pleasure of going during Dine LA Week and the deal was so good. The Wagyu nigiri wasn't on the Dine LA omakase but we had to get it...and then proceeded to get several more orders. I will be going back!!!!

Yelp
Jinpachi is one of those rare places that by hard work, consistency, and superior fish quality had manage to still be a place that gets excited visiting even after 10 years in this city. Nothing about it is fancy, everything about it is filled with genuine care for their customer's experience. To me that and the fish quality is everything.
google avatar

Niaz K.

Yelp
Went here on a Friday night and it wasn't that busy but they do accept reservations! They have an upstairs seating area too (I think). We were seated at the sushi bar which was a prime spot in my opinion. We tried a variety of nigiri and rolls and everything was so fresh and the fish melted in your mouth and was properly dressed. I 100% recommend this sushi spot! It's awesome and very under rated!

Yelp
Best sushi I've had in LA so far. I ordered the sushi moriawase and my partner ordered the sashimi moriawase - pieces were all fresh and delicious, comes with miso soup and a salad. Recommend sitting at the bar so you can watch the chefs slice and craft each piece so carefully and efficiently. I also really loved the neighborly, cozy feel of the space, as well as the efficient and helpful service. Definitely on the pricier side (a la carte sushi items were up to $12 per piece!), but worth it for a special dinner experience in my opinion.
google avatar

Andrea M.

Yelp
Simply spectacular. Please sit at the bar, let the chefs do their thing, sit back, and enjoy. Thank you and you're welcome.

Yelp
What an experience! Fish was so clean and delicious, perfectly cut. Server guided me through several suggestions and they were all absolutely fabulous. newfound favorite was the Amber Jack... had to go back for more. Service was top notch with empty plates being whisked away moments after they were finished, and somehow it seemed my water glass never emptied even though i was drinking through the whole meal. Obviously a respected local spot with a warm friendly atmosphere. Worth every penny and then some. Chef skills were apparently next level.

Yelp
Great spot for my sushi fix in Weho. The staff is friendly and sushi chefs are prompt and experienced. If I can't make it to the valley for my regular spot, I hit Jinpachi!
google avatar

Dionne M.

Yelp
Wonderful experience - omakase, and very bite was memorable. The chef was attentive and the sushi was subtle and surprising with excellent seasoning throughout. We loved it!
google avatar

Yelp
Hidden gem. One of the best sushi experiences you will have. Fish was incredible and the environment was welcoming and cozy. Perfect for a small intimate part or a place to dine alone.
google avatar

Nicole Z.

Yelp
Jinpachi is great. An unassuming spot hidden right on Santa Monica blvd in West Hollywood. Easy to walk in without a res and fish is high quality.
google avatar

Yelp
This place is great, you can get an authentic sushi experience, price point is good, and it's always super fresh
google avatar

Yelp
10/10 for sushi quality. Took my super picky friend here and he said this was the best sushi he's ever had in LA! I will say it's definitely top 3, will be coming back again and again. The service was super quick too and the price was not bad for the quality of the fish.
google avatar

Maxine D.

Yelp
Very nice place to have great sushi. Not too loud and feels like an authentic Japanese experience. Quality sushi and attentive service.
google avatar

Yelp
Extremely belated review! Went with my boyfriend for Valentine's Day. Small, cozy spot in West Hollywood. The octopus carpaccio was so out of control good- it's been almost a year later and I still can't stop thinking about it. Servers are attentive. Highly recommend!

Alan B.

Yelp
Go here if you want to experience heaven on earth and amazing sushi - you will never regret going here!
google avatar

Yelp
There are some sushi places where the only things you should order are the Americanized dishes..and then there are others where the fish quality is so good, the authentic options are what you should stick with. Jinpachi is the latter. We tried the yellowtail serrano sashimi, salmon sushi, toro scallion roll, and yellowtail roll, all of which were amazing. We also ordered a spicy tuna roll, crispy rice spicy tuna, and lemon roll. The lemon roll was pretty awful, the lemon on it was extremely bitter, which was disappointing. Even with the lemon removed, the fish quality didn't seem quite as fresh as in the sashimi. Jinapachi doesn't offer many specialized rolls, but based on our experience, they are doing you a favor by not offering them. If quality sushi and sashimi is what you are after, you'll have a fantastic experience in a unique space in West Hollywood.

Brandt A.

Yelp
A fantastic quiet spot in West Hollywood. Fish was extremely fresh and flavorful. Service very quick and nice. Highly recommend for next date night or solo dinner night
google avatar

Kevin A.

Yelp
Jinpachi serves up terrific and fresh sushi and sashimi, mostly in classic styles. It's a small sushi bar that people sit around with a few ground floor tables in West Hollywood. There's an upstairs that can accommodate another half dozen dining groups. The tiny affair is minimally decorated, nothing worth mentioning, but consistently good... The one drawback? It ain't cheap. Know that going in.
google avatar

sparky c.

Yelp
The sushi was good but it was the prices that were amazing! In a first for me at a sushi restaurant, a sushi order is priced for *one* piece, presumably so you won't choke on the price for the standard pair. A salmon avocado cut roll was $16. Yellowtail carpacchio for $30. Oysters at $5 each. A very modest dinner for two adults and a nine-year-old, with only water to drink, came to $213, plus tip. Neither food nor service nor atmosphere was good enough to justify those prices. Maybe that's why the tiny place was almost empty at 7:30 on a Friday night. It doesn't matter how wealthy you may or may not be. No one likes to be ripped off.
google avatar

Itamar T.

Yelp
I love this place. They have some of the best and most fresh sushi. You can't go wrong with any of the sushi or sashimi that they have to offer. They don't have many specialty rolls if that is what you are looking for. Of course the basic spicy tuna cut rolls they do but i believe they have very limited specialty options, which is not an issue since their fish tastes so fresh. Their service is also very good, I personally enjoy sitting at the sushi bar. The ambiance is somewhat dark, but not enough where you can't see what you're eating. They have a few seats outside. You should make reservations. I like this place and recommend it.

Yelp
Went here with family for a late Thanksgiving celebration. We were a party of 4 with a reservation at 6, and were promptly seated when arrived. Everyone in our party chose the omakase, but it was a shame we couldn't sit at the bar to watch the chefs make our dishes. Instead, we got a table on the second floor, but got a balcony view of them instead! I was absolutely starving when we arrived and the halibut yuzu carpaccio was a beautiful and fresh start to the tasting menu. The star of the show was definitely the first set of the nigiris, (tuna, salmon, yellowtail and red snapper). Although these are typically the cheaper cuts of the fish, the quality was superb. The fish practically melts in your mouth, and the wasabi was an extremely gentle compliment. Overall, it's quite a comfortable and cozy restaurant nestled in West Hollywood. It's definitely worth giving it a try.

Yelp
might be my favorite sushi spot in LA! in a great location in west hollywood with very fresh fish, can't wait to go back

Renee M.

Yelp
Everything we had was high quality and delicious. From the miso soup to the sushi and crab hand roll, I would get it all over again and again! The spicy tuna crispy rice was my least favorite bc the sauce a bit sweet but the albacore crispy onion was amazing!
google avatar

E Z.

Yelp
Delicious & authentic, not "Americanized" if that makes sense Great flavors and very reasonable prices for the high quality of sushi
google avatar

Monika R.

Yelp
Amazing food! So glad my friend recommended this place. Will definitely return when I'm back in Town for another conference
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
This is my favorite neighborhood sushi joint. The fish is always fresh and the sushi chefs are always welcoming and helpful. I would definitely recommend sitting at the sushi bar and getting their omakase menu. My only suggestion would be they make it more clear how many pieces come in their omakase menu so that it is easier to know how to budget for the meal.
google avatar

Sabina B.

Yelp
Better than I remembered it to be. Great quality fish and selection. Will definitely be back.

Robin B.

Yelp
Fish quality and service were excellent. Intimate, quiet atmosphere. I would have given 4 stars but the vinegar in the sushi rice was so strong that it overwhelmed the taste of the fish. The chef stated that the rice was that way on purpose. He wasn't happy that I mentioned this. We would like to return but probably won't because the rice ruins the experience.
google avatar

Navid L.

Yelp
The food is great and the service is also on point. If the quality of food was a bit better, I would love probably given it a 5 star but I've had much better sushi in LA. I would for sure go again if I was in the area.
google avatar

Shanit K.

Yelp
Be prepared to $$$$pend. Decided to come here for dinner with a friend after not having been here for a few years. We ordered miso soups, cucumber seaweed salad, 2 sashimi dishes, crispy rice, a few sushi dishes and 2 hand rolls each. We were a bit surprised when the sushi was served as individual pieces (had to end up ordering 2 more orders of each thing after already ordering 2 of each). The fish was honestly whatever. Even the yuzu and ponzu weren't so great. Really felt like place is so overpriced and the sushi was just OK (definitely doesn't justify the price). Probably won't be coming back here.

Aj D.

Yelp
One of the absolute best sushi spots. Reliable and easy for either takeout or eating in, also has an upstairs where it's nice to have larger groups. Very much agree with the hidden gem comment!
google avatar

Danny Y.

Yelp
Street meters available for parking. Staff is nice and helpful. A great surprise for yummy sushi. It is quality so the pricing is fair. Restaurant is a bit small so reservations recommended.
google avatar

Brehon Q.

Yelp
Tomosan is an exceptional chef. Sit at the counter with him. Sweet Shrimp and fried heads for the win.
google avatar

Minji K.

Yelp
The best sushi I've had, super fresh, and service was great. We sat at the bar and it was nice.

Kate C.

Yelp
Always amazing. They consistently have some of the cleanest, most beautiful tasting dishes you could ask for.
google avatar

James Christian B.

Yelp
I arrived late on a Saturday evening, after having made a reservation using Yelp. Although the restaraunt never received the reservation on a busy Saturday night, they accommodated us. The staff was patient, and kind, and i believe, seated us in the most intimate spot in the house - upstairs in a secluded corner. There's nothing to focus on but yourself and your date, hidden from the bustle of LA despite being on Hollywood. The rolls we ordered were simple, elegant and excellent. The rice was expertly prepared and sticky, which I believe as a want-to-be chef, is sometimes tricky and presumed to be easy by the uninitiated and unattended. Do not miss out on Jinpachi.
google avatar

Ashley K.

Yelp
Come here for good sushi. They don't really offer anything off the menu or daily fish/seafood like some Japanese restaurant but everything on the menu is good.

Toktam R.

Yelp
My favorite sushi place, we been going for years and never ever disappointed. Great service fresh and delicious fish always, and you always see regulars which mean once you go here you never stop. My apology for taking this long to give you guys all the star that you deserve.

N S.

Yelp
Food is good but extremely expensive and small portions. Honestly it's just highway robbery what they are doing. If you don't care about spending a lot and then still being hungry after then this place is fine. Ambiance is cool but nothing to allow them to charge what they are charging.
google avatar

Lish S.

Yelp
Jinpachi used to be my favorite Japanese restaurant in this neck of the woods. I loved how authentic their sushi was and the fresh ingredients they used. Over the years, as newer sushi restaurants such as Matsumoto and Sushi Ginza Onodera popped up near by, I stopped coming to Jinpachi as often. I decided to come here for dinner with a girl friend this week and was sad to see that both the food and the service had declined since my last visit. My baked blue crab hand roll tasted fishy and stale - I dropped it right away when I sensed a hint of ammonia. The service (or lack thereof) was frustrating. For starters, we stood at the entrance for a long time waiting to be seated for our reservation and servers would just pass by us without paying us any attention. This set the tone for the rest of the night. They were so understaffed that only 2 servers were attending to the entire restaurant. As a small business owner, I know that staffing is challenging at this time, but perhaps they should not be taking more reservations than they can handle. I'm sad to say this but I don't think I'll be back anytime soon.
google avatar

Harrison D.

Yelp
Hands down my favorite sushi restaurant in the city! The restaurant has a low key, intimidate vibe despite serving the best quality fish I've come across. The prices are high but well worth the level of service and delicious Japanese cuisine. We've never had a bad experience here and always look forward to a night at Jinpachi.
google avatar

Kayla W.

Yelp
This place is so good. Everything here was amazing!Y friend and I got the Sushi Moriamase, spicy tuna tartare, and the grilled eggplant with rock shrimp. Everything here is absolutely amazing and just so delicious. I think it's kind of a hole in the wall vibe and it's just so cute!
google avatar

Carolyn K.

Yelp
Amazing service, great quality sushi, great restaurant, the only complaint I have is the hot saki was terrible and the ambiance is so so. Could use a renovation but amazing food and service
google avatar

Joya E.

Yelp
Been here a bunch of times!!! I recently got to go and I highly recommend the crispy rice spicy tuna, yellowtail jalapeño sashimi, red snapper with garlic chip sashimi, and the spicy tuna roll!! The sashimis are on the pricier side. Expect to pay $40+ a person but it also depends on how much you order. It's a small restaurant so when it reopens for dining expect a wait if you don't have a reservation especially on Saturday nights.
google avatar

Jennifer C.

Yelp
Came here for date night and I couldn't be more impressed! All the sushi was extremely fresh. The yellowtail jalapeño and spicy tuna crispy rice were my favorite. So delicious that we ordered them again even though we were full! Staff is attentive and sushi chefs are very friendly. Can't wait to be back!

M A.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food and ambiance. Authentic and always fresh. The service is very friendly and professional.

Sareen C.

Yelp
Ok, ok. I've literally never wanted to give this review because I don't want anyone to ruin my reservations for me by being overbooked but honestly even their sushi takeout is amazing and a savior during the pandemic lock down. Been going here for nearly 10 years and I absolutely love this place. Omakase is everything here-absolutely must try. And they always have fresh Uni on hand. Worth the price and the wait.

Darby C.

Yelp
Incredible at atmosphere with the most amazing hand rolls in LA. Don't sleep on Jinpachi and their true wagu!
