3 Houston Restaurant Openings Diners Need to Know - Eater Houston

"Japan-born noodle chain Jinya Ramen Bar has debuted its newest location in the Heights. The restaurant at the Heights Waterworks development officially kicked open its doors at the end of last week, bringing a legit ramen destination to the growing development. This makes for the chain’s seventh outpost in Space City, and bowls of spicy chicken ramen, creamy vegan ramen, and more noodle options are on offer." - Amy McCarthy

Service was fantastic. I forgot his name, I believe it was Ryan, but he was great. I did have to remind something’s we ordered but no big deal as overall service was great. I didn’t get her name but the girl that was working was really sweet and helpful too. The appetizers and food were excellent. Including the strawberry lemonade.

Google
Delicious food, AMAZING service, the manager on duty Adolfo made GREAT recommendations! Our server Kat, super sweet, hardworking and attentive. If you stop by ask for her for sure! Highly recommend if you’re looking for a fun, up beat hang out spot with friends or your sweetie. We’ll be back for sure!

Google
All around pretty amazing loved the atmosphere. The food was 10/10 I am not a huge fan of ramen but this place definitely makes me want to eat it more. Service was amazing. One drawback is the lack of seating in the restaurant, it is a bit smaller than other ramen restaurants I been to, but there’s additional room outside. Overall pretty good in my book.

Google
Gabby was great!! Loved the food and the atmosphere. Gabby made sure we were taken care of. She was attentive and very kind! We got the spicy creamy vegan ramen

Google
We had an amazing lunch celebrating my daughter's 20th birthday. Ramen is the bomb! Gabby tended to all our needs! We had the Chilled Tan Tan Men, the Tonkustu Black (my fave), Creamy Tempura Shrimp and Takoyaki. So tasty!

Juliana was AMAZING! Very kind, sweet and knew all about the menu. From beginning to end she was very attentive. Not only did she do her job well, she made us laugh and made our experience a great one. My husband and I will definitely be back and will be requesting her as our server 😊! I tried the Birria Ramen for the first time, absolutely delicious!

Google
Everything was 10000/10! Sofia was the best waitress we could have had for our first time trying Jinya - super friendly. And the atmosphere great! We will definitely be returning

Yelp
Spicy ramen for the Win!!! Of course my favorite ramen spot; they have a unique menu! I have been coming to jinya since 2017! The spicy chicken ramen is always the order I gear toward most. The broth is just the perfect blend of spice and flavor. It's not watery, which is why I keep coming back. The shrimp tempura for an appetizer chef kiss with perfect crunch and sweet and spicy flavors. I always get the lychee martini here. There's a Ramen or a rice bowl for everybody. It's cute for a date night girls night or just a chilly cold night which is why we came. There is a parking lot so free parking!

Yelp
Best.Ramen.In.Town. I am obsessed with JINYA! I first discovered them in Atlanta and was so happy to see that there was a location nearby my home in Houston. I have been here 3 times already and ordered on DoorDash twice. To begin with, there is free parking and as soon as you walk in, you feel like you are in a super trendy spot with all the neat decor and huge bar. Service has always been great and the servers are very attentive. For the appetizer, you must order the JINYA Bun. It is literal perfection. For my entrée I always order the JINYA Tonkotsu Black because it is so delicious! Needless to say, I will keep coming back (just writing this review has made me crave some of their yummy ramen)!

Yelp
"Great Experience at This Japanese Restaurant" I decided to try this Japanese restaurant specializing in ramen, and it was a pleasant experience. I ordered the tonkotsu ramen with a touch of spiciness. The flavor was very good, although I think it could be a bit more intense to enhance the broth even more. The service was excellent. Tracy, our server, was very kind in explaining the drink options, and I ended up ordering one with orange, which turned out to be delicious and refreshing. The ambiance of the place also deserves a mention: the soft lighting creates a relaxed atmosphere, perfect for enjoying a quiet dinner. I would definitely come back to try more items from the menu and would recommend this spot to anyone looking for ramen in a cozy setting.

Yelp
We have gotten take out several times, but on a Saturday evening we finally went and ate in person! We had about a 20 minute wait, but it was worth it. The service was friendly and helpful. The ambiance inside was cozy and there were tvs playing football too. Our food came out pretty quickly and it was great as usual. It was a nice change to eat it there fresh. I got the spicy chicken ramen with the chili sauce in the side so I could add in as much as desired. I also recommend getting a seasoned egg if the ramen you order doesn't come with one. This is my favorite ramen spot in the heights area! Will be back
google avatar

Darlene K.

Yelp
Perfectly cooked egg. After arriving later than anticipated from SATX. It was nice and windy this night, so I felt ramen would be wonderful. I got the original tonkostu with thick ramen. Service was delightful and welcoming even though it was 10:30pm. I sat alone in a corner table and enjoyed the winding down of the restaurant. It was a nice ending to a long drive.

Anna M.

Yelp
The spicy umami ramen might be one of the best things I've ever eaten. I added some chicken wontons, but I think I'll add more of the ground meat next time because it was so delicious!
google avatar

Naomi H.

Yelp
A pretty good concept, loved the art the setting and the whole vibe of the staff. We came for happy hour, so we got some buns and then ramen, the ramen was very soupy and the broth was amazing, I think the meat was really flavorful but it wasn't the best one I;ve had, the buns those were amazing!!! need to come back soon to try other things on the menu, but will add it to my ramen spots. ++++++++++(order the JINYA bun and ask for crispy chili oil)+++++++++++

Yelp
Jinya is probably the most delicious and consistently good Ramens I've had in Houston. For apps the brocollini and brussel sprouts are a great start. For main my go-to is the tonkotsu black with an extra seasoned egg, thick noodles, and corn. I think the only con about Jinya is the add-ons are over priced for what they are. ($2.5 for corn!). Regardless I'll keep coming back

Yelp
Super chill place to go. If you are looking for a place that serves drinks, good food with plenty of options... then it is right here. The ramen has depth in its own right. This Ramen will fill you up like a warm hug and made with generous portions of servings of each item without overloading. Easily a date night place.
google avatar

Maddie F.

Yelp
Stopped in for some lychee martinis and appetizers for girls night and they did not disappoint! We sat at the bar top and our bartender was so sweet and attentive. Can't wait to try the ramen next time I come in.
google avatar

Alexandra K.

Yelp
They do not take reservations! I went on a Tuesday at 645pm with a party of 2 and was seated immediately. The service was attentive and continuously filled my water. Had a pretty good meal! I would recommend both dishes I got - the crispy rice and the tonkatsu spicy. The tonkatsu spicy was insanely mild so I might ask for extra spice if you're looking for it to actually be spicy. Overall I'd go back and I'd recommend for ramen in Houston.
google avatar

Mel F.

Yelp
Don't bother ordering an extra ramen broth. They hardly put anything in it! I usually have to order extra because there is never enough broth in the main bowl. I just don't understand the stinginess on the broth. Other than that, it's good.
google avatar

Jessica D.

Yelp
I love the black garlic ramen here. I always come here when I'm back in town. It's always consistent and I like that they have a good selection of sides you can add. I like adding bok choy to my order for some extra veggies.
google avatar

Diane P.

Yelp
I like this location! Good quality ramen always consistent. Very flavorful. Pros Clean 10 Quality of Food: 10 Service: 10 Ambiance: 10 Parking: 10 Cons None!

Yelp
Jinya in mid town tends to be crazy busy on Friday nights, hence we decided to try this place. Although there is big parking lot yet it was difficult to find the parking as Jinya shares the parking with other restaurants. The ambience is cool. Although it was not as busy as the jinya at midtown gets yet they took more than reasonable time to get our order i.e. spicy vegan ramen. The server was great. Ramen was delicious as expected. Overall it was a good experience.

Yelp
We visited the JINYA Ramen Bar - Heights Waterworks location on a week day after they opened. The restaurant is easy to find, but shares a parking lot with other establishments. Thankfully, we were able to find a great parking spot that fit our vehicle. The staff was very friendly and welcoming. The restaurant and facilities were very clean. We enjoyed: - Spicy tuna tacos - Edamame - Spicy Creamy vegan ramen (customized with an egg, brussel sprouts, crispy onion, and fresh garlic) - Chicken ramen with thick noodles - French fries - Chocolate mochi Everything was cooked to perfection. If we are in the area we will be glad to stop in. We hope you enjoy your experience at this Jinya location.

Yelp
RAMEN AMEN! This place is absolutely amazing. The food and service is outstanding. I ordered the Jinya Tonkotsu Black ....get an extra egg. It was like drinking from the holy grail of Ramen. As a starter I got the Tuna with sticky rice. I was lucky enough to make the decision to sit at the bar - good call - The bartender Andy was one of the best servers I've experienced in a decade. Rarely does food quality match service equally to such a high degree. This place ROCKS!

Yelp
Overall, the service was good and the food was served pretty fast. The ambience was pretty modern. Staff were super friendly and it was pretty quirky how they would say Arigato when people would leave the building. So here's the one by one on each food item: Chicken Chashu bowl: this was a pretty decent sized item. I think it's great for a lunch portion. It was seasoned pretty nicely. I enjoyed it with their hot sauce. Wonton Ramen: the wontons were pretty good and nicely seasoned with ginger. We ordered it with the thick noodles and the texture was nice and chewy. The broth was also rich and balanced and creamy. Crispy chicken: the crispy chicken was indeed crispy. The seasoning was definitely rich and Mami. I think it went well with the sauces that were available at the table. Takoyaki: overall the Takoyaki was executed well. Did not enjoy it. I thought that there was too much mayo and did not have a hefty portion of octopus. The seaweed salad was tasty. I really like that. They put it on a bed of mixed greens. The edamame was also fresh and adequately salted. Spicy chicken Ramen: the spicy chicken Ramen was not a spicy as I thought it would be. I ordered it with the Sapporo chicken. It was still a good portion and we had tons of leftover. I still enjoyed it when it was cold, and after reheating.

Yelp
Jinya is a master of their craft. I've tried so many other ramen places and nothing compares to their Tonkotsu Black. I order it with thick noodles, side of garlic, and side of extra broth for phenomenal leftovers. Side note, the fat kid in me discovered that a barbacoa taco dipped in the leftover broth is everything I've ever wanted and needed in life. I've always gone to the midtown location but we ordered to go from the Heights and I'm happy to report it's the same quality I've known and loved for years. They packaged everything with care and it was delicious. I was sick when I needed my ramen fix and I just wish they delivered!
google avatar

Chelsea F.

Yelp
Best ramen I've ever had! The spicy chicken is perfect every time and I always get extra to take home.
google avatar

Genesis M.

Yelp
First time coming here and I gotta say I really enjoyed it! I got the spicy chicken ramen and it was delicious! The broth was flavorful but not spicy at all. It had a nice kick to it but I tasted nothing spicy, it was more mild like. The noodles were good as well. I was a little disappointed that it came with only two pieces of chicken wish they would add more! For the price I think adding more chicken is justifiable. Service was pretty quick we ordered and they had our food ready in a couple of minutes! Space is nice and restrooms are so clean!!! Definitely will come back to try more items on the menu!
google avatar

Jordan W.

Yelp
Jinya is one of my favorite Ramen spots to go to. I love their shrimp tempura as an appetizer this time we also got the potstickers which did not disappoint. I had a strawberry margarita, which mostly tasted like juice so for my second drink, I just ordered a Don Julio and sprite, which was cheaper than the actual margarita, and had more alcohol in it. I would recommend just getting a spirit mixed with your favorite mixer if you actually want a stiff drink. My friends ordered the lychee mule and they liked it a lot. I always get the spicy chicken Ramen bowl with added brussels sprouts. This time I had the lady bring out the hot sauce to add to make it more spicy. If you're looking for a little bit more flavor, I recommend getting hot over spicy the spicy is not spicy at all. Parking isn't the best here since they share a lot with a few other restaurants so you may be waiting for a parking spot.

Yelp
Me: Hi there table for 2 please. Host: sure please follow me yells IRASSHAMIMASE!!! Damn thought the whole restaurant was celebrating me when I was greeted. I'm like alright roll out that red carpet cause I'm comin thru for some of that Spicy creamy vegan ramen!! You know the drill. I'm not sure why it took me so long to review Jinya everytime I go it is a bop. Service is always on point so friendly. The vibe is just so cozy yet upscale. Try the fried brussel sprout appetizer! It is sooo good. Ask for a side of spicy mayo. You'll thank me later ;)

Yelp
Easy parking, friendly faces and good customer service. The lychee martinis were so good.

Yelp
I frequent this place for lunch. I am not sure how busy the other locations get around lunch time but this place is pretty empty during lunch hours which I love!! I have been to a couple of locations and this one is my favorite! They have both inside and outside options which the others don't. Always super speedy and great service. Other locations tend to be more packed and therefore take longer on getting the food out. I have tried a variety of ramen plates here and every single one of them has been great. My favorite is the shrimp wonton. They have an option to make it spicy and omggggg it just takes it from great to amazing. Trust me on this! I also recommend the takoyaki octopus balls! They are a must for me every time I come here. S/o to Jinya for being one of my favorite work lunch spots in the area! I will continue to frequent this place for as long as I'm around!

Yelp
Stopped by the other day for dinner with a few friends since they've been raving about the food here, and they were right! Our server was Kevin T. and he treated us well with keeping up with our orders and drinks and generally being attentive. He was certainly charismatic and had a good sense of humor to share with us. 10/10 rating for both the food and service here, so next time you think about eating here try asking for Kevin LOL! I'll be coming back for sure.
google avatar

Kristi M.

Yelp
I really have no bad things to say here, y'all. Customer service was amazing, food was out to the table with a quickness while being hot and fresh, and it was absolutely delish. 10/10 suggest the salmon and tuna tacos and creamy tempura shrimp for apps! The chefs special was amazing. I believe they are doing it until May! Ample parking which is a huge plus.

Yelp
My wife and I always order tonkatsu black and tonkatsu original ramen and if we are hungry we order some appetizers time to time. I introduced Japanese ramen to my wife back in 2021 and Jinya was the first place I took her to. Ever since then, she fell in love with the Japanese ramen and she has been exploring ramen places all over in Houston. Her favorite is still Jinya! We like the heights location especially because of the parking space and distance from our home. Im

Yelp
Just like the downtown location the food will not disappoint! The parking is tight but it's Jan great location and a great area to walk after you eat. The service was great as always and I am sure we will be back.
google avatar

Anj G.

Yelp
Solid ramen meal. Best dish - tonkotsu ramen black, and ask for the spicy sauce! My kids had the vegan ramen meal b/c they love tofu and there was a lot of variety in the meal - soup, rice, taco, edamame, and veggies. This is a surprisingly family friendly restaurant with a trendy vibe and enjoyable food. Would come again!
google avatar

Reema G.

Yelp
I've been to every Jinya location in Houston and I think the Heights is my favorite. I think it's due to the great service, although katy location is pretty good too. I can eat here everyday if I could, but alas I probably shouldn't. I have yet to try another ramen place because I am satisfied with the quality of this one. Even when I travel domestically, I like to check out the Jinya in whatever state I'm in. 10/10 stars !!!
google avatar

Sonie P.

Yelp
Have ordered delivery, pick up, and have dined in at this location. More intimate than the one in Montrose. Food is just as good, as is the service. Prices are similar. One bowl of ramen can run you about $20 especially if you add an egg.
google avatar

Joiya A.

Yelp
My first time at a Jinya location wasn't good. This time I really enjoyed it! I ordered the shrimp wonton ramen. Omg the broth was delicious. The wontons were just ok I could actually do without them and be fine with the dish.
google avatar

Oliver C.

Yelp
This is one of the only ramen spots that I frequent. I wasn't a big fan of ramen dining until my wife introduced me to this place. I've been to 3 or more different locations and I can truly say, I've consistently had a great experience! From the Nigori sake to the spicy creamy shrimp appetizer to any entree of choice the food is always great! Their seasonal chef special gave a new prospective about noodles for dinner, very flavorful, good portion and fresh ingredients. I was very pleased. Thanks to the professionalism for our servers Peter and Jessica (sat at the bar), date night with the wife was a hit!
google avatar

Aranza P.

Yelp
experience 10/10 Jose killed it, from hospitality to experience this was just a pleasant outing and I will be back just to ask for Jose. Thank you for taking care of us so well!

Yelp
Best ramen to date in the US! Would highly recommend. Very fun environment, they always all yell Japanese phrases when people come in or they register a tip. Super fun place.
google avatar

Nivia B.

Yelp
An amazing first experience trying out ramen and I have been back many times since. The food is absolutely amazing & the staff do a great job answering any questions concerning ingredients in each menu item. Always a pleasure to go to this location (or any of them for that matter).
google avatar

Kathryn G.

Yelp
Delicious i will say the wonton ramen needed some hot sauce . The service was really great besides it took 20 mins to get our hot sake .it was a little loud in the place but it was really good!
google avatar

Amanda F.

Yelp
Ramen was great. Marquis was top notch! On top of everything and very funny. Excellent server- he's def (25) don't let him tell you differently. Great time - will def be coming back.

Yelp
Wanted a special meal for my birthday so I stopped. Y on a Sunday evening. The restaurant was busy but I was greeted quickly upon entry and directed to the bar for to go ordering. I saw a fee options that peeked my interest. The bartender was very helpful in reviewing each items and offering suggestions. Food took about 15 minutes to come out. I ended up getting the JINYA Tonkotsu Black, Hot with added corn and broccoli (3.5/5). It was okay. See below for more details. Wasn't as garlicky as I expected. Now that I look at my photo I see they forgot my egg I also had a pork bun (2/5). I love pork buns and are typically my go to. I believe I ended up paying around $18. It was an okay experience. I can see myself coming back if I'm in the area. Pork bun - it was okay. I've had better for sure. Had more an enlightened pork. I would consider getting it again but $5 for one bun was too much in my opinion. Ramen - it was good! Wish I could have ate in the restaurant for the full experience but assembling my to go order was easy. The added veggies made it hearty and I ended up having enough for 2 meals. I should have went down to medium in terms of spice. It was bearable but not the kick I was looking for that day lol
google avatar

Heavenly D.

Yelp
You really can not go wrong with their flying harvest ramen. JINYA is the only place I know of that provides 2 options for vegan ramen, and both are really good. They have a nice atmosphere- it's cool, modern, gamey/city like. It reminds me of the fast and the furious Tokyo drift. It's cool to look at, the style stands out. The customer service is great. It is a little pricey- things range from $10 (appetizers) to an easy $20 per meal.
google avatar

Daryl K.

Yelp
Jinya is a great place to come to for great food and great service. For appetizer the pork gyoza is a must have. Spicy chicken ramen is my favorite and never once have been disappointed. I like the heights location when we want to get in quicker, the one in midtown can have a wait but both are great vibes. Service is always great and the whole staff is friendly. If you haven't been, definitely try them out.

Avery ..

Yelp
Ramen was ok. Happy hour menu is the best. Pork bun and chicken is good. I don't know if I would come back. I would probably give it another shot.
google avatar

Emily F.

Yelp
The food is pretty good but shrinkflation has affected the portions. The meat is $4.50 for one piece of chashu cut in half. That's crazy pricing all the toppings are at least $2. Other ramen places are better priced.
google avatar

Anthony J.

Yelp
Food was good but could be a little fuller, portion wise. Service was spot on. The ambiance will keep you coming back.
google avatar

Michelle V.

Yelp
With multiple locations, this one is my favorite. I love the spacious facility they offer with indoor and outdoor options. Customer service is great! Our server constantly check up on us. Food comes out at a timely manner. Each ramen is season to perfection. You can also customize your ramen based on your likely for additional cost. Overall, never a bad moment here.
google avatar

Alex L.

Yelp
Digging the music here . It's kinda like rave / hip groovy music . Nice vibe inside . I order the Spicy Chicken Ramen $15.50 . The spicy was definitely like a mild . Served with thin noodles . You can order extra toppings on the side . I went ahead and got the cabbage $2.50 and the seasoned Egg $2.50. For mines . Plenty of other options to choose from on the toppings. Let's take about these rough napkins . When I say rough like sandpaper rough . The napkin under the cup was softer . Parking lot fairly huge. Came around lunch on Wednesday around 12:45 . Not wait at all .

Caitlin N.

Yelp
We had an exceptional dining experience thanks to our server, Ryan. He was attentive, friendly, and incredibly knowledgeable about the menu. He made excellent recommendations based on our description of what we wanted. The food and ambiance were great and I would definitely return again!
google avatar

Val G.

Yelp
It is truly a feeling of great satisfaction! They offer several choices where I feel they focus a lot on each of its quality. Though business seems casual, they try to make you feel very authentic in terms of your overall experience. The foods are not only enjoyable but very flavorful not only to its aroma but throughout its presentation. Price is decently fair and expected not to break the bank for the meal experience you got. Moreover, We were amazed at the staff as they complimented your present from the moment you entered the restaurant and up to the moment you leave where they acknowledge your business.
