"Jiou Chu Dumplings, a division of the 85C Bakery Cafe, is opening its first U.S. location in Rowland Heights. The restaurant offers a modern atmosphere and a variety of Taiwanese comfort food such as dumplings, noodles, and soups. The venue features trendy decor, and its menu includes exclusive creations like black sesame noodles. The flagship location will serve as a culinary testing ground for future expansion." - Kristie Hang

"As big, buzzy dumpling shops go, it’s hard to compete with Jiou Chu Dumplings. This latest Taiwanese export, from the 85C Bakery Cafe family, already has a very loyal following in Taiwan, and has now landed stateside in Rowland Heights, one of the most competitive areas for dining in all of greater Los Angeles. The restaurant’s pork xiao long bao and pan-fried dumplings should be able to keep up, though curious customers should expect busy days at the large 2,700-square-foot ultra-colorful new space." - Eater Staff

Ordered three items for dinner. The cons: the soup dumplings were luke warm. It was cold in no time. The wife and I did not care for the beef noodle broth. The pros: plenty of soup in the dumpling. The beef and tendon were tender. The noodles have some chew to it. The fried rice with pork was the star. The fried pork was spot on. The taste, flavor, and tenderness were great.

Google
In the area and went in for lunch. Recognized the 85 degrees Bakery logo and wanted to see how tasty the soup dumplings are. We ordered some of the most common dishes and it was pretty good. The wrapping of the soup dumplings is a bit thicker, but it's packed with great flavors and lots of soup. The beef wrap has lots green onions and cilantro. The pan fried dumplings have lots of soup wrapped inside and are pretty flavorful. It's worth another visit when in the area again.

This is the newest entry into the Chinese fast food segment by an established Taiwanese bakery, 85c. This place was clean, spacious and had attentive servers. The food was decent, but some can be a bit better. It’s most famous/popular dish - crispy dumplings. Although the dumplings tasted fine, but they were hardly crispy. The noodles that we got was decent as well. Its combo of soup, crispy dumplings and a drink was a good deal at $14.

Google
A Taiwanese pork dumpling spot by 85° Bakery. Wonderfully juicy pork dumpling. Their beef roll is also great too. Restaurant is well managed and clean. It's a great spot for a brunch! I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Google
If you’re looking for just some simple for lunch. Here is a good choice for you. The dumplings are super cute and crispy skin, different type dumplings have different colors which is very thoughtful. Of course , don’t forget to order the fried squid. All they taste so so so delicious! Unfortunately, except dumplings, noodles, few vegetables….., not too many choices. If you come with big group, maybe not right place. Good to try!

Google
What a surprise, I am picky about my Dim Sum but this place is delicious and the service was great- shout out to Stephen. I am a beer roll nerd and they were awesome, the soup dumplings were amazing and everything was delicious 🤤! Plenty of parking out front. Mango dessert 🍮 was silky smooth.

Google
One of the great dumpling franchise from Taiwan. Come early to avoid crowd. Food can be ordered by scanning the QR code placed on the table. The ordering website has full description and pictures of the food. The atmosphere is nice for friends and family gathering. The staff noticed it's our first time and lead us in every steps and made excellent suggestions of what to order. All in all, it was a positive experience.

Google
Good service. Lunch Combo has a very good price compared to others. Food is decent but not authentic. Recommend Chives & Pork Dumplings and Noodles with Minced Pork & Sesame Paste. Winter Melon Tea is also good in my opinion. Probably one of the places will be back because of cheaper prices for lunch.

Yelp
if you're in rowland heights and craving some bomb taiwanese dumplings, jc dumplings is where it's at! they're collabing with 85 degree bakery, and everything on the menu is super reasonably priced and delicious. my faves were the beef roll and beef trio, which they'll serve as a weekend special, so you gotta try them when you get the chance. start off with the iconic pork xlb ($8.99) -- so juicy and flavorful, and the cabbage and pork pan-fried dumplings ($10.99) are a must too. don't skip the marinated cucumber salad ($6.99) as an app, it's light and refreshing. their red grapefruit tea and milk tea ($4.20 each) are perfect drinks to pair with everything. they'll also be offering weekend combos soon, like the beef trio ($15.99) and taisu steak (12oz for $35 or 24oz for $68), so i'll definitely be back for those. overall, jc dumplings is a solid spot for dumplings, and i'll be saving some room for their jiou chu dumplings next time!

Yelp
Jiou Chu Dumplings presented by 85 Degrees Bakery has been on my radar for a while before I finally decided to give the place a try. I heard good and bad things about the place but didn't know what to believe until I actually had it for myself. I do want to say the food was okay, it's not the best Taiwanese place I've been to for beef wrap and soup dumplings but it wasn't bad where I didn't like it at all. The pork soup dumpling was hot and juicy, the chives & pork panfried dumplings weren't bad. The salted egg fried squid was a little overcooked and didn't have a strong salted egg taste to it. The scallion pancake is made super thin that it didn't have the right flavor and texture to it. Service wasn't the best but I get it, it was super busy. It seemed like the place was understaffed. Most of the time my party and I were just waiting around for our food to come and/or to try to get the servers attention. Other parties were experiencing the same issue. Jiou Chu has lots of room for improvements is how I see, hopefully things get better!

Yelp
Yum! I stopped on my way from Temecula to Los Angeles, hungry but unsure where to have lunch. Dumplings sounded good, so I popped in here and I'm so glad I did! I got an order of the beef & mozzarella dumplings, which sounded strange but the server recommended them. So good! Very mild flavored. I also got a bowl of hot & sour soup which was flavorful and good. They have table service and the waiters were friendly and helpful. It looks like you can also order at the counter like you would at a fast food restaurant, which is probably convenient for take out. The interior is nice. Very clean and modern. Lots of comfy banquet tables!

Roy C.

Yelp
Very solid place. Liked the food and service. Need a little help in table that tilted and no condiments on my table. Soup dumplings squirted and gave us 7, that's a strange number, maybe due to not fitting in steamer? Beef noodle soup was good, went with thin noodles and had good amount of beef and tendons.

Yelp
I've always seen Jiou Chou inside of this plaza and I was always intrigued since this business is owned by 85c. My boyfie and I decided to go check it out since my friend recommended and I'm soso glad we did :) We ordered SO much for just two ppl -- beef noodle soup, chives & pork pan fried dumplings, pork xiao long bao, and beef rolls. My favorites were the pork XLBs and the beef noodle soup. I actually added some chili sauce from the self serve sauce bar into my beef noodle soup because I like my soup SPICYYY. Everything was so flavorful +++ the service was QUICK and the server who helped us out was the sweetest thing ever :') Everything was reasonably priced -- will definitely come back in the near future! This was quick & easy and satisfied me and the boyfies cravings.

Channary V.

Yelp
Everything tastes really good here, we order fried rice pork cutlet, beef role, xiao long bao, and salted egg squid. The pork is very tender and fatty, definitely will be back for Thai! The Xiao Long Bao is juicy and fresh, the beef role is pretty good as well! The only thing about salted egg squid is it's too greasy, other wise it would is bomb! And for some reason the vinegar to dip the xiao long bal is kind of weird, so it kind of affect the flavor of xiao long bao

Joy C.

Yelp
Food was yummy, loved everything we ordered! You order online, they bring it out and the service is very efficient. They have a self serve condiment station, their house special sauce is good. We enjoyed the pork XLB more than the mixed. We also enjoyed their beef wrap.

Brian W.

Yelp
Jiou Chu Dumplings in Rowland Heights was a new dumpling shop that opened. My friends and I decided to check it out after hearing good reviews, and wow it did not disappoint. The beef noodle soup hit a perfect nostalgic spot for me, while the dumplings were nice and juicy. I will say the beef noodle soup was definitely more memorable for me, and I've been coming back whenever I have a craving for beef noodle soup. The service is extremely quick and efficient, as nearly everything is done on your phone. The restaurant is clean and has a lively feeling to it! Overall, I highly recommend Jiou Chu for an authentic Taiwanese experience, specifically a nice bowl of beef noodle soup.

Denise V.

Yelp
Stopped here again and happy to report there was no line. The staff were efficient and friendly (as usual). Ordered the braised tofu,, garlic broccoli and corn chowder soup - all were very delicious!

Kirsten S.

Yelp
Got the beef roll, pan fried dumplings, green beans. Green beans weren't as good as Din Tai Fung. But flavors were decent overall. No line at 5pm

Alicia L.

Yelp
Everything that we tried - didn't have anything to complain about. In comparison to Din Tai Dung, you can't go wrong with this place as an alternative. I liked that they had various meat rolls. I'm usually partial to beef rolls, but this time we got the pork roll - but decided to try a pork roll, which was a good choice. Also enjoyed the kimchi dumplings with it's nice and flaky crust. XLBs we're so delish. I liked that the dough wasn't very thick, but held together nicely. They weren't too piping hot that it'd burn my tongue when we got them too.

Karen F.

Yelp
Came back for a visit and saw that the menu has changed. That said, we still enjoyed our meal and I like the new bento boxes, which are super convenient for me taking meals back for others. Service was still great, and now there's no crazy long queues.

Akane T.

Yelp
Service was really good! We got here at 5pm on a Thursday and there was only 1 person seated!! Whaaaat?! The last time I drove by, they were so packed they weren't taking anymore customers. Everything was good!

Susan L.

Yelp
What I ate: - Assorted XLB: These were pretty tasty. I liked the flavor of these better than the regular pork XLB. Juicy, rich, thin dumpling skin. - Pork XLB: Juicy with a thin dumpling skin. But the flavor was a bit monotonous. I found the assorted XLB better - Hot and sour soup: This was just okay. Yes it was hot and sour, but nothing to write home about - String Beans: Good, but definitely on the salty side - Marinated cucumber: Exactly what you would expect. Garlicky, crunchy, fresh - Scallion pancake: These were nice and crispy - Pork scallion roll: This is where the scallion pancake really shines. Stuffed full of cilantro and green onions - Pan fried pork and chive dumplings: These are always a nice texture combo - juicy dumpling with that crisp filigree of crisp Pros: - A much more convenient and little to no wait din tai fung knock off. Once the initial business of opening had died down, there are always plenty of tables whenever I come in for dinner - Staff are pretty attentive - Order online or order with servers. Ordering online also lets you pay online too - A small assortment of desserts, but they're always out of the dessert I want - Great place to order takeout. They have their takeout container game on point. Everything is well packed Cons: - While the food is all decent, nothing is really great. That is to say, if you didn't live nearby, I'm not sure if it's worth the drive. Does that mean the food is bad? Of course not. All the food is really good, what you would expect, but nothing is truly exceptional. - Parking lot can be hit or miss. Those tight asian parking lot spots. It's a busy plaza on the weekends since it's full of other competing restaurants - This is a restaurant that is striving towards the rote standardization that din tai fung is trying to bring to the rest of the world. Due to this, it lacks the homeyness or mom and pop restaurant feel. There isn't a sweet older aiyee auntie slapping down chili oil and pickled veggies when you ask - instead you have to pay extra for a small condiment sized plate of pickled veggies and walk over to the sauce bar to get your own chili oil. I guess this place a bit too sterile and cold for me to come often, but it does in a pinch if I don't want to drive all the way to SGV/din tai fung for XLB. Would I come again? Sure

Yelp
Upon arriving, the staffs greeted us and told us to take any open table. The restaurant was nice and clean. It was during dinner hours, cam around 7pm, the store wasn't as busy which it made it faster and easier to place our order. The food was pretty good. I definitely like the pan fried dumpling and the xiao long bao. Definitely their staple food to get.

Cindy L.

Yelp
This place is solid! Really hits the spot once in awhile Located in Yes Plaza, there's an abundance of parking. However, if you've been to this plaza, you know that it can get very compact and claustrophobic during peak hours. I'd recommend parking closer to the restaurant - in my experience, there seems to be more spots on that side! Restaurant is nice and clean - love that you can just order on your phone through the QR code at your table. Of course, you can also order directly with the staff for any reason. We usually get a variety of different items and always have some leftovers to take home. To name a few: - Juicy Pork Dumplings - Beef Noodle Soup - Pan-fried Dumplings - Stir-fried Eggplant Basil and Minced Pork - Fried Pork Chop I've really had no issues here but all the items can add up fast. Our bill for two people is usually around $100 which makes me sad because we're so used to the food & price in Taiwan!

Leticia L.

Yelp
Visited Jiou Chu Dumplings last week and our experience was OK. We got seated right away; the server went over the menu with us and told us to place our order using the QR code placed on the table. After our first encounter with the server, we only saw our server when he was bringing our food and he was always in a rush. We had to flag the server on several occasions for a single water refill and the check. The food was just Ok; our favorite was the cucumber salad and the tofu skin.

Adam C.

Yelp
I love the food here especially the xiao long bao. The waiters are especially nice! My favorite foods were the xiao long bao, beef noodle soup, hot and sour soup, and red grapefruit green tea.

Amanda G.

Yelp
We decided to try them out on afternoon. Overall everything was just okay. I know that they are newer, so I'll give them another try.

Michelle L.

Yelp
I found this place on Yelp and decided to give it a try. Upon walking in, we were greeted and seated right away. We were informed that we could either order from a server or use the QR code. After they placed our water down, we never saw the waitress again. We tried to flag them down to order but eventually gave up and used the QR code instead. We ordered a few items: the pig ear dish, beef roll, beef noodle soup, sesame paste noodle, and both types of XLB. The beef roll was very flavorful and delicious. The beef noodle soup could definitely use more flavor. The sesame paste noodle had some issues with stickiness, causing the noodles to not break apart. Thankfully, the chef noticed and brought us a new dish. The pork XLB was good but had something slightly off that I couldn't pinpoint. The seafood XLB was super fishy. Regarding the service, I understand why other Yelp reviews have complained. Some of the staff seemed to lack awareness of the tables, and we always had to flag someone down for water. Overall, the food prices were decent, and the taste was okay.

Yelp
THIS IS THE BEST DUMPLING AND BEEF ROLL PLACE I'VE BEEN TO. Not sure why this place gets the mediocre reviews that it does. I have been here during the soft opening where I had to wait an hour for a seat last year, and I came back again this year because I was in the neighborhood. One thing to note is, get the C03 - Pork, Scallop, & Shrimp Xiao Long Bao and avoid the Pork Xiao Long Bao. If you want pork, go for the pan fried dumplings. There is a sauce station and I recommend getting the special house sauce for a flavorful taste. The next dish to get is the beef roll. This is probably THE BEST beef roll I have ever had, and I've had beef rolls from Taiwan! Sometimes, my friend and I would order two orders of beef roll when we are hungry. I have visited this place three or more times now and you can bet that I will come here even more times in the future.

Darlene K.

Yelp
The start of service was good. I liked that our server read our order back to us. It's very sparse inside, and I like the lack of clutter. The end of service was just ok. We tried to get the servers' attention for some boxes. It took a while after they walked past a couple times. The XLB was ok. The wrapper was very chewy, which is a positive, but it was also very sticky and stuck to the parchment paper in the steamer basket. Sometimes the wrapper broke. There was one that was broken before I tried to pick it up. When I moved the basket, there was a sad puddle of soup on the table. The green beans are not good. Some were undercooked and the pork didn't resemble meat. I liked the saltiness of the beef noodle soup and the meat was wonderfully tender. I'm glad I got the thick noodles, but I wish they were a little chewier. The beef roll was ok. I liked the sauce bar, but I felt that the food itself was pretty bland, with the exception of the noodles, but other than salt, very little spices came through. I had high expectations based on the full restaurant and the association with 85°, but I would prefer more spice in my food without having to add more myself.

May L.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to try this! There's no shortage of good xlb/beef noodle soup restaurants in the SGV and this adds to the list. Their xlb was juicy and delicious, although made with a skin thicker than what I prefer. Beef noodle soup was perfectly flavored with tender beef and chewy thin noodles. I'm in the area pretty often recently and will probably come back when wanting something clean, nourishing, and yummy!

Alisa M.

Yelp
PROS - order on your phone - tasty - prices are moderate - menu variety CONS - long wait time to be seated - not much customer service Overall a great place but keep these above in mind when planning your visit

Party_of_five _.

Yelp
Everything we ordered tasted really good. We ordered the pork xiao long bao and Braised pork chop bento. The xiao long bao were fresh and had a good taste to them paired with the chili soy sauce. Compared to other dumpling places we've tried these are our favorite.

Jasmine A.

Yelp
Stopped by on Saturday, 06/15/24 for the first time (lunch). Dined in and ordered the following: - 1 G02 Shrimp Fried Rice = $14.99 - 1 D01 Beef Noodle Soup Thin Noodle = $15.99 - 1 D06 Noodle Pork/Sesame Thin Noodle = $8.99 SUBTOTAL = $39.97 TAX = $3.79 TIP = $10 OVERALL TOTAL = $53.76 Wait time was minimal. This place got busier and busier after. After paying the bill, I asked the employee for 2 to-go boxes - he forgot and I asked again (no biggie - it happens). I love the interiors - very modern (marble tables!) and clean.

Ticha B.

Yelp
Food was good. The Taiwanese inspired food was authentic and tasty. We ordered the XLB dumplings, shrimp fried rice, cucumber salad, and Dan Dan (sesame) noodles. Everything was good. Jiou Chu has a scan and order process which made it easy to review the menu and order. Food came out quick. There are a lot of places in this area for Asian food, Jiou Chu's dining area was modern and had tons of tables to accommodate customers. Will definitely be back.

Reagan L.

Yelp
We had hoped this place was better. We really wanted to like this store...but it just missed the mark for us. The restaurant had too much of a fast food vibe, though it's a sit down restaurant. We ordered XLB, but they said they ran out of ginger...really? All the food we ordered was not bad...but also not hitting the spot. Maybe we were there a bit late, but they weren't closing yet. Will come back to give it another shot before crossing off our list for good.

Peter P.

Yelp
The XLB is as good as DTF. We have additions items like minced pork noodle, fried calamari and beef roll. They are good. The difference between this place and the big DTF? No line to wait and cheaper. My kind of combo

Vera L.

Yelp
Located at the corner in Yes Plaza and boy was it difficult to find a good parking spot during a weekend night. They were all tight compact spaces so I ended up parking across and walked over to avoid any door dings on my car. Put ourselves on the Yelp waitlist in advance but it was still about a 45 min wait. Their service shouldn't be that slow but still ended up some time waiting for a seat. We scanned a QR code on the table to order, or you could also wave a waiter down to get your order in. There's also a small self-service sauce bar that has a spicy soy sauce and a special chef sauce you could grab to your table. Food was alright, can't say it was satisfying and delicious. The noodles were a bit soggy with a subpar beef broth/soup. It would be pretty good on a cold winter night but it was just OK. Dumplings were fine , somewhat juicy but I wished it was crispier as a pan fried dumpling. I may say the corn soup (regular size) was the best , only $5 for a huge bowl with a bunch of corn/toppings in it. I'm used to braised pig ears being a cold dish but it was served warm and soft. Overall not really worth it for the wait. I just wanted to come try here since it's somewhat new. Admittedly I get influenced by all those IG influencers too easily lol...

Esther P.

Yelp
We ordered via qr code, paid online, and food was brought to our table. Liked their soup dumplings!

Tellie N.

Yelp
Went here with my friend for lunch date. My friend saw this on IG and she's been wanting to go. So this restaurant partner with 85 degree and that's why their drinks are from 85 degree. Food was great. I really enjoy the beefroll because the bread is not that thick and it's very crispy. I like the dandan noodles but I prefer a little spicy. I think it needed that kick. The assorted XLB or soup dumplings - I couldn't tell what the difference because we got the assorted. I feel like all the soup dumplings I got is the same. Service was fast. It's more like self service because you can scan the QR code and place the order online. The condiments you have to get it yourself on the counter. I think the food is a bit pricey but I would still come back.

Kyle W.

Yelp
I went here with some friends after my friend sent me a reel about this place, which is a dumpling restaurant from the owners of 85C Bakery. Given it is a fairly new restaurant and is somewhat viral on social media, wait can be pretty long. Peak times can be over 1+ hr waitlist, but when we went at a relatively off peak time around 2:30pm, we still had to wait 25 min to be seated. Fortunately, we leveraged the Yelp waitlist to our advantage so we waited minimally in person. We tried the A2 chives & pork pan fried dumpling, C1 pork xiao long bao, F1 beef roll, and G1 minced salmon and chicken fried rice. The chives and pork pan fried dumpling was really good - there was also quite some juice inside so if you eat fast, some will get squeezed out! I liked that there is a thin sheet layer of crispiness under the dumplings. The xiao long bao was also really delicious. Beef roll had minimal sauce which is good for less salt, but it did not carry as much flavor as I had hoped. I would skip the beef roll in favor for more dumplings. The fried rice was good, a bit oily, but flavorful and well executed. I'd still prefer the dumplings which, after all, is their specialty. Service is minimal as expected for a Chinese restaurant, but it was annoying to have to even flag down a host when the Yelp waitlist is ready, as no one literally went to the host stand area to check people in. That gave a poor first impression of the restaurant, for an otherwise really delicious dumpling restaurant in Rowland Heights.

Nate C.

Yelp
Came over Memorial Day weekend. We joined the waitlist and it told us we would be seated in about 20 minutes, but we ended up waiting closer to 45-50 minutes to get seated. Ordering is easy because you order on the phone and the food came relatively quickly. It took a while for us to get our waters though, because there were only two people working the entire dining area despite the rush. Food was decent, nothing was particularly noteworthy. Pork XLB - not bad but not mind-blowing. Pretty juicy though! Beef and mozzarella dumplings - wouldn't recommend because the cheese flavor is way too strong. JC Noodles with spicy sauce - not really flavorful, wouldn't recommend either. Veggie roll - one of the better dishes. The pancake was light, crispy, and not too greasy and the fillings were tasty. Tofu skin appetizer was basically what was stuffed inside the veggie roll (we didn't realize until after the items came), but it tasted good. Pan fried pork and leek dumplings - mediocre flavor-wise but pretty juicy. I would come back to try the soups and get the dumplings again since the prices are decent, but probably during an off time since they seem to be chronically understaffed (based off other reviews)

Paula H.

Yelp
The dishes here are good! There was no wait on a rainy Sunday afternoon and lots of parking when we visited. We got a lot of different dishes to try but my favorites were the String Beans with Garlic Minced Pork, Corn Chowder, Tofu Skin, Beef & Pork Roll. The string beans were very tasty and I loved the garlic and pork on top. Corn chowder was also delicious and smooth. It was perfect on a cold day. I'm a big fan of tofu skin and this was was delicious. I do wish there was more or a bigger dish, even though it is an appetizer. Lastly, the beef roll and the pork roll were both delicious. There is plentiful meat and flavor in there. The rolls are a little smaller than I expected. The JC noodle with spicy sauce was pretty spicy, like the numbing spice. That and the Noodles with Minced Pork & Sesame Paste were a little saltier than I would like. At the end, we were wrapping up but they gave accidentally gave us someone else's dish. There was a bit of confusion and lack of communication from the server. they were about to give us 2 drinks that weren't ours either! we resolved it eventually. Overall, it was a good experience and I would visit again!

Sklar T.

Yelp
Came in around 2:30 pm on a Saturday when they weren't busy, but with no host around, I thought I had to add myself to the Waitlist. I sat down on the bench in the lobby area waiting to be called. Big mistake. At least 5 servers walked by and no one bothered to ask if I had been helped. I finally had to stop an employee on the way out to get seated. I sat and looked at the menu for what I wanted to order. I looked around waiting for someone to come by and introduce themselves as my server. No one did. I felt invisible. This place did not present a good first impression for me. I had to approach a server to get my order taken. I ordered the soup dumplings, boiled dumplings, as well as the corn & chicken soup. While the soup and boiled dumplings were tasty and well made, and the soup was also tasty, trying to get seated and trying to get my order taken soured my overall experience here.

Stephen P.

Yelp
Looking for a slightly different menu to Ding dai Fung and a much short let wait then try this place. Although, I still think DTF tastes better. Pork chop with noodle soup was ok; chop was thin and sliced on a separate plate. It's easy to miss the pepper that you dip the meat in. That makes all the flavor difference. The hot & sour soup was full of ingredients, but not as spicy as other places. Beef roll is pretty good. The various pan-fried dumplings are good; don't forget to add vinegar and the special spicy sauce you can get at the front of the restaurant. Accommodating staff who helped rearrange the table for our party of 8. Good AC, so wear a sweater.

Eileen S.

Yelp
Located in the southeast corner of YES Plaza off of Colima Road, parking in that corner of the plaza was plentiful and not hard to get. We popped in for lunch on a Sunday and it wasn't crowded or busy at all. Green Beans and Beef Noodle Soup were just fine, nothing to rant and rave about. But this place isn't called Jiou Chu Green Beans and Beef Noodle Soup right? The dumplings, however, were great! XLB came out popping hot and were juicy and flavorful. The pan fried Kimchi & Pork dumpling were something I'd never had before and were also a pleasant surprise. Def would come back for more dumplings and try the varieties we didn't get this time around.

Chewson H.

Yelp
So this is the up and coming Instagram famous dumpling place by 85 Degrees. The plaza that it lives in is a super busy parking lot where it's like very challenging to find a spot. This plaza really needs like an underground parking lot. The interior of the place is modern. They have a Yelp check in so you don't have to wait as long. For some reason they keep two Chef Special Sauce" near the entrance. They don't keep this refilled so I could only try one of them and it is essentially "Spicy SoySauce". You don't get any dipping tray for making your own soy sauce at your table and you have to get it from here. On the table you get normal soy sauce and black vinegar. So I ordered a bunch of items and I would have to say that their dumplings are pretty good. I ordered pan fried leek and pork, boiled cabbage and pork, and XLB. I'm usually not a huge fan of leek but they do it very well here. There are some misses here like the Pig Ear Mix with Seaweed and Tofu is pretty bland. It' looks flavorful but it's not. The pork chop for the fried rice is soggy and pretty salty. The cucumber salad is also not hitting the spot, its flavor isn't as strong as other places either. The beef roll is also hit or miss, they make it on the sweeter side here so I liked it. Portion sizing is quite small. Between two people I ordered like 7 items and we finished everything. I wished the filler items like fried rice were a bit bigger, it's only enough for one person realistically. Service here is pretty good. They come check up often and refill water. You can have a server take your order or use a QR code scan at your table. It's quicker to use a QR code since the staff is moving around a lot. Overall, I really enjoyed my experience here. They ran out of string beans with minced pork so I must try it the next time I come here. I recommend trying this place out.

Yelp
Finally tried Jiuo Chu after reading about its grand opening. They have some weekday combo items (see menu pics) that makes ordering turnkey and lets you try a few different menu items. The XLB was good but there's only 7 in an order -- I thought 8 is the lucky number. The XLB wrapping is a bit thicker than DTF. Overall, the food was good (see pics) but the service could have been a bit better with better menu knowledge but guessing the employees that night are still new. I asked about ingredients for some of the sauces and they didn't know what ingredients are in the sauces. While I didn't ask specifically if the sauces have any nuts or nut oils, they should know that since many people (not me) have nut allergies.

Yelp
This "sniffs in" at 4.5 stars... I do not know what they call their EGG TARTS but oftentimes they are "Portuguese egg tart" style. -- tons of stacked thin layers of traditional pie crust -- mini size -- most tops have the desired torch mark from the flame -- very nice custard creme and nice texture -- lightly sweet -- a very solid rendition of this favorite of mine RATING = A-

Yelp
Very good. I would come back. I ordered 3 types of dumplings (Pork XLB, Pan Fry Cabbage, Pan Fry Beef w/ Cheese) cucumber and green beans and it came out to about $62. Since we ordered online, we used some special that got us a drink for $1. After placing the order it estimated it would be ready in 30min, but I got a text in about 10min saying it was ready for pick up. My husband and I were full but felt like we could have ordered one more set of dumplings, meaning it can add up quickly and become pricey. Nevertheless, would definitely come back to try more.

Yelp
Bryant H was my server and he was on top of things suggesting what was good and checking up to make sure everything was good. I had ordered the jasmine green tea since they didn't have the winter melon tea. I ordered the pork and chives pan-fried dumpling (picture worthy) and also the pork roll and the mango sago pudding. Everything came out perfect and delicious!! I would tell my family and friends about this place, they do it right on!! 5 stars for sure!! The ambiance, service and food were all 5 stars in my opinion!! I'll be back!! Very easy to find off Colima and nearest cross street is Fullerton. Look for the Yes Plaza sign. It's on the southeast corner, near the Starbuck's.

Yelp
The experience was very good, as expected and did not disappoint. I love 85degree bakery, their cakes, drinks and fresh breads. Their quality of bake goods are high standards and consistent so, when they opened a casual dining restaurant specializing dumplings, noodles soups and popular home cook menus, I knew it was going to be good. Pan fried pork & chive dumpling was so juicy, tender and tasty. Bottom outer skin of dumpling was crispy with browned nicely. The size was perfect for one bite mouth full. Each bite was meaty, juicy, tender and not greasy or oily. It was delicious, Beef roll was okay, pretty standard. To me it needed little more flavor. It tasted little bland. Too much green onions. Service was very friendly by cashier and server. Over all good experience, would love to come back and try different dishes and invite friends.

Yelp
Came back to the place again to: 1. try it out once they've gotten their rhythm after the soft opening 2. because my friends haven't tried and wanted to see for themselves The atmosphere had largely stayed the same as in my previous review; always filled with people and there's least a 30 mins waitlist but it's open for lunch too now. We had ordered the following: Pork Xiao Long Bao: decent for the price, while it didn't stand out like the rest of the dishes I think you'd get what you expect for this. My friends were half mixed on this as well. Green onion pancake: It felt like it got to our table significantly cooled down already. It could be flakier with more layering when they make it especially if they focus more on the comfort food aspect. Fried Rice with Pork Chop: the fried rice was decent but the star, being the pork chop, could be so much better. It didn't feel like it had the juicy fresh fried pork chop taste. the pork chop did come to us cut already so devil's advocate , maybe they cut it too soon and the juices flowed out. Beef Noodle Soup: Round 2 attempt at the beef noodles. It did not taste remotely similar to traditional beef noodle soup that I've had. In fact, it tasted more like a pizza than I remember and half of my friends agreed too. It wasn't my cup of tea but it might be yours. Beef was relatively tender though. String Beans with Garlic Minced Pork: the best one of the bunch that we've had. It could be drier because the string beans when bitten into didn't have the snap texture to it but the flavor was there. My key takeaway is that the presentation of the food seemed to be the main focus, such as the green onion pancakes and pork chop fried rice, but what I think they'll need to work on is making it taste better first.

Yelp
I didn't know I never reviewed this place. I had this nearly a year ago now. I remembered it because it was like a week or two after I came back from Japan/HK. I thought about giving Jiou Chu a 2 but Jiou Chu really has been the worst food I've had since I came back and it's been almost a year now. It's not that anything is rotten or the service is bad but the food itself is really bad imo.... I don't think anything beats how nasty the "fried rice" was. It's a fried rice that was not so fried rice....idk how to describe it. Although Jiou Chu is not exactly expensive, I just thought all of the items were pretty awful so I will definitely not be back...sorry to be so harsh.

Yelp
This has been on my list to visit places in such a long time. Found out they actually have a restaurant in Taichung, Taiwan. The restaurant was packed when we visited on a Saturday around noon 12:30 pm. We weren't seated until like 45 min later. Ordering is easy by scanning QR code and ordering through phone. Our table ordered five items: 1. String bean with minced garlic-it was ok. Don't particularly like vegetables that are fried but they did not have any other variation such as steamed or soupy vegetables 2. Pan fry chives with pork potsticker- very delicious , crispy skin on the outside 3. Shrimp fried rice - this dish did not particularly stand out. Didn't find anything special about it 4. Pork rib noodle soup with thick noodles- the star of the meal!! Noodles were chewy and soup was not salty. Full of flavor 5. Pork roll- fillings tasted fresh and I liked that the roll was not too huge. Bite sized I loved all the dishes except the shrimp fried rice and the string beans. Didn't particularly think there was anything outstanding about those two dishes. Would come again with friends or if I'm around the area

Yelp
We got here around 6pm on a Saturday and got seated right away - there is a yelp waitlist that you can join ahead of time as well. We got the following: - Xiao Long Bao: very juicy on the inside but given it's not piping hot, it's better to just take one huge bite or else you'll risk spilling the juice - Beef roll: the crust is really crispy and there's a good amount of beef in there but nothing overly outstanding - Eggplant with minced meat: To be honest this exceeded my expectation - very flavorful and the eggplant is very chewy - Bulgogi and cheese dumpling: probably would skip this next time - the outside is a little hard and I could barely taste the bulgogi and cheese and it felt more like the regular dumplings There is a self serve station at the front where you can get additional sauce. Service is great! Overall a solid spot for dumplings but I just have a somewhat high expectation for dumplings in general.

Yelp
Pretty good dumpling and Taiwanese dish spot with a lot of the XLB restaurant staples! XLB is pretty tasty. Soup holds in the dumpling well and skin didn't break for me. The dumpling skins are nice and thin. Only complaint is it's 7 pieces and most places charge the same price for 10 pieces. Pan fried kimchi and pork dumplings were our fave though! Nice spicy flavor and even these had a little soup inside and were nice and juicy. Definitely try out their secret spicy soy sauce and the hot sauce from the sauce bar! I mixed in a little vinegar and dipped my pan fried dumplings with it and was definitely a nice flavor boost! Hot and sour soup also really good. Perfectly spicy and vinegary. Again smaller portion than other places for a large bowl. Only serves 3 cups versus other places would be more like 5. JC noodle is like Zha Jiang mian. Nice flavors. Noodles are chewy and was even better with the house made hot sauce! I'd get this again too. Calamari was a bit dry; might pass on that one next time. Overall I'd call this place a great weekday dinner option and I'd come back!
