Jiu Thai Asian Cafe

LOVE this place. I've been going to it on and off for years. It had been a while since I'd visited, so decided to with my mother. The decor was updated--looks GREAT. I was concerned my favorite dish (Tiger Tofu) would either be off the menu, or possibly "adjusted" by new chefs. Nope! It tasted just as amazing as day one/my first time having it. By far THE best tofu dish I've ever had, and I've tried a gazillion. Their hot and sour soup is great, too, although I personally prefer more "kick". They do give you a large bowl of it, though. My mother ordered the chicken-n-broccoli. Was very fresh and tasty, although she did say the chicken seemed fattier than prior visits. (One suggestion: Include knives with the cutlery; my mom likes to cut her broccoli into smaller pieces.) Regardless, the overall experience was great, and I'll visit again, of course.

Small cafe, nice atmosphere. I ordered hand pulled noodles beef ramen. I asked them to serve the spicy on the side and only put a little in the soup. It was perfect. Very large portion which I gladly took to work with me. I also ordered mango smoothie, it was good and not overly sweet.

Had Chicken Pad Thai and my gf had Tao's Chicken. Also had hot tea which turned out to be Lipton which made me laugh. Food was average, hot, filling, and decent serving size. Service was good, only complaint with the food was veggies in the kung pao were basically raw especially the broccoli, like it kissed the wok for 3 seconds. It's a pretty common thing with Chinese American food, no idea why.

Second time ordering so far I've tried the short rib noodle, beef dumplings, pork and cabbage dumping, lamb pulled noodle, wings and lamb sammich. All 10/10. Very delicious. Get the extra noodles, I promise it's worth the 3.00 because they are so perfectly chewy and delicious you WHILL want extra noodle. Very tasty. Good portions. Might be my new go to for noodle soup

The pad Thai was average maybe slightly below. However the atmosphere was dynamite. Very clean and great service. Maddy was my server and very good

Very much authentic northwest Chinese cuisine: noodle specialties! And many more other dishes: most of them are marked as spicy, but chef can accommodate the mild or non-spicy request for most of them. Service is great, too!

Got takeout, it was a generous portion and really tasty. Picture doesn’t do it justice sorry haha Peanuts on the side so they don’t get soggy = bonus points. I tried the Bamboo Thai place across the street to the north and it was a little dry, this place is better!

I've ordered many things from here before. I love their Pad Thai, Cold Bean Curd Dish, the Red Oil Beef, and Dumplings. For their deserts I highly recommend getting their tiramisu and dark chocolate crepe cakes! You won't be disappointed! I feel like there are so many yummy options that you couldn't go wrong. When dining in, our server was kind, friendly, helpful, and informative when it came to ordering.

It makes me feel bad to write this because the atmosphere of the restaurant is cozy and the staff was great. The food brought the rating down for me significantly, as I ended up leaving most of my meal uneaten. The best way I could describe the meal was that the entree had way too much of one flavor and the dessert had absolutely no flavor at all. The vegetarian biang biang noodles were completely soaked in hot chili oil. Tofu was undercooked and unseasoned. The dish had no flavor other than uncomfortable heat. The tiramisu crepe cake had the consistency of chewing on play dough. It did not taste like tiramisu or really like anything at all. So disappointing.

Was craving some hand pulled noodles to celebrate lunar new year and Jiu Thai was the answer! It had been a long time since my last visit, but was so happy the food was just as delicious as I remembered. Friendly, helpful server greeted us and we sat at a little 4-top in the middle. It wasn't busy at all, but we came at a weird middle-of-the-day time. Ordered pan fried dumplings, dragon eye noodles, and biang biang noodles. Everything was fresh and delicious. Biang biang noodle is my favorite and today it slapped. Perfect balance of tang, spice, fresh, and chewy noodles. It's such a perfectly balanced plate, it's hard to order anything else! Hubs ordered the dragon eye noodle soup and it was light, delicious, and a huge portion of hand-pulled noodles. Pan fried dumplings were a perfect starter (6 pieces per order.) Only took off one star because the cafe itself is just left ok'ing a little worn around the edges. It could use a tiny bit of sprucing up and cleaning. Absolutely no shade tho. I still recommend it!

Finally tried the beef noodle soup at Jiu Thai! Their menu ranged from traditional Chinese food to more Americanized dishes like sesame chicken, and surprisingly they even have macarons!! The noodles themselves were very thick and doughy, and the portion was filling. The broth wasn't as spicy as I thought it would be so I'd probably add some extra sauce next time. The beef slices and radish paired well with the soup and cilantro added extra flavor. I also tried the lamb skewer, which was cooked well with lots of savory and salty spice on it. There were lots of seats indoors and ordering was super convenient since you can order online using a QR code. Service was quick as well, even for our big group.

Starting with the best, the service was enjoyable, and the servers were very polite and helpful. This is only Northern Chinese cuisine restaurant in town. The atmosphere was that of a traditional noodle shop, that's how you know the food is good. The food was quite delicious, but for me, the Biang Biang Noodles are a must have. The fresh hand pulled noodles were very good and springy. Overall, it's a great place to eat and I highly recommend it. Biang Biang noodles are SO good. I ordered with extra veggies and it seemed like a normal amount to me. I replaced the beef in it with chicken and they honored it. Food is flavor and not overpowering with heat. Light and tasty. I have ordered take out several times and they travel well. Xiang cold noodles are another must haves for me. Food is fast and easy, definitely a must try.

Came here after the Columbus marathon for a nice hearty meal and this place did not disappoint. We tried several dishes, including those pictured, and each was amazing in its own way. I think this is a staple restaurant to go for comfort food, and would recommend you check this out

This is the first time I've been here and I absolutely loved it! Super clean restaurant, service was amazing, and food came out super quick. Our server was very helpful in knowing what to get, she was very familiar with the menu. The flavors of the broth in the diving beef was amazing, Ive never had anything like it. Very great flavors in the sauces and everything !

Omg what a hidden gem! This place looks like any regular Chinese restaurant inside and out. However, when the food comes out prepare to be mind blown. This was by far one of the best Chinese restaurants we have been to in a long time. The food was quite authentic. None of the oily americanized Chinese food but rather quite a few authentic Chinese noodles. We got the fried rice and it came out looking bland but soo much flavor! Would definitely recommend. We also got a bunch more dishes such as the diving chicken, biang biang noodles and eggplant and everything was so good. Chicken so tender and the spicy dishes were just the right amount of spice. Hoenstly everything we got was fantastic. This place honestly rivals the China town locations in flushing NY. Would not be able to tell from the looks but would love to come back if I'm ever in town again

My husband and I love Thai food, so we decided to give this place a try. I missed seeing some of our favorite Thai options here like spicy Thai basil friend rice and panang curry. We got most of the items from the American menu. We ordered online through the restaurant we site. I recommend ordering online from their website as I notice Seamless charges $1 extra for most items. Our order was ready to go on time. I saw a lot of reviews recommending the biang biang. I have never had it, so ordered it. Unfortunately, this was the only item both of us did not like. Although, the noodle was nicely made, the dish was essentially flavorless. I actually ended up mixing it with the other food we got to make it tasty. It also did not have much beef in the dish. The sesame chicken was nice, the chicken was super crispy. The hunan chicken was okay, probably would not order again. The combo and chicken fried rices were good. I wish the other entrees allowed you to choose fried rice as an option, they came with steamed white rice. We really enjoyed the mango crepe cake as it was very light, but for the price ($7.50) and size of the single slice, we probably would not get again. Overall, we would try this place again, but it was more of an American Chinese place for us. It was missing the heat and authenticity of Thai dishes.

The biang biang noodles are awesome, but I will say that things can be a little inconsistent! On my last order, they forgot the delicious pork sandwich I ordered and the protein was left out of one of our dishes. A slight bummer because Jiu Thai is usually such a nice treat and you really look forward to each thing you order!

How have we never been here? Wow- just fabulous. Rich lamb broth stretchy noodle soup, pork sandwiches with house made buns, squid and lam skewers. You will not find this at any other Chinese restaurant in Columbus. Great service, nice people. We will be back!

Guys this place is legit. If you are looking for an authentic Chinese cuisine this is your place! Our server was extremely kind and attended to us when we needed it. The atmosphere reminded me of mainland China in its simple decor. We ordered the diving beef, yuxiang eggplant, and lamb and onion steamed dumplings! YOU HAVE TO TRY THE EGGPLANT!! The diving beef had a very authentic flavor I haven't experienced in years. While I didn't like the flavor of our dumplings, my wife loved it! My friend, who was stretching noodles said it was perfect meal. Fresh, officiant and not overpriced. Great service, wonderful food. Had to take cake home, it's delicious, peach one is the best!

I want to add to my previous review after a second visit. What I was most impressed with were their hand stretched cut home made wheat noodles. Sloppy, raggedy cutting, but I guess that's to clue you in: "Hey! I'm rustic, dammit". And oh what noodles! Perfect bite, cooked just so to absorb the broth. I am honestly surprised I think so much of them. Other than fresh udon, I never thought there could be such a BIG difference. Bigguy Hand Stretch Noodle. What? Stretch Armstrong in a broth? Well I give it up to the Bigguy. I couldn't get over the broth. The flavors were so well balanced they were hard to separate. Yes, cilantro, maybe a bit of cinnamon or five spice. But there was a slight sour taste that really pulled it all together. Topped with thin slices of wonderful char chiu. Interrogating our server yielded no clues to the flavor mystery. Nothing sour added, no black vinegar, nothing. Only a miso base. Ok. Got home, put on my Nancy Drew hat and started searching. Possibilities: One site says yellow miso has a slightly sour taste (it was slight, but using at home I never noticed). A reddit says old over fermented miso can be sour (spoiled). Another says when used with katsuabushi that is over-boiled a sour taste can result. So fail. No matter what, I hope they keep doing what they are doing and thank you! Also had to get yaki again. A few kinds available, but went again with "squid feet" as opposed to bodies or "heads". Maybe heads some day when I'm feeling lucky. I like them because of not only the squid taste, but mostly the BBQ slathered on them....and the little bits of dried chilis giving a different crunch. You chew and you chew, and you enjoy and enjoy. Found out this spot has been around for years. I know why.

Stopped at this restaurant with four of my family members after an all day behind the scenes Columbus zoo experience. All of us are very much foodies as far as restaurants go. We picked this place because of its close proximity and the ratings it has received. All of us find Thai cuisine at the top of our lists for favorite places to eat. This place did not disappoint us at all. When we first arrived around 4pm there were only a handful of diners in there. A very nice server sat us close to a couple who were of Asian decent. The menu was not your typical menu and we kindly ask the couple what they were eating. The woman did not speak very good English but was happy to take her time to explain what they were eating and was explained some of their more authentic and known for dishes that they served. We ordered a couple each of the BBQ skewers, they were very good. Grilled with a dry curry mixture dusting. We ordered two of the cold noodle dishes which was what the woman said this restaurant is known for. The dish was excellent!! We had the lamb curry appetizer, edamame, and spring rolls. Each of these were typical and very good. Entrees we had Biang Biang noodles, red oil beef long noodle, red oil lamb long noodles, braised lamb long noodles. All these dishes we never had in the past but very excellent and each had their own unique differences to them. Their noodles are hand made in the store and could you could tell!!! Bonus stars for the care they take. I would rank this as one of my best Asian cuisine experiences. For some of the poor reviews that I have read I say this...... stop ordering door dash or other services to get your food delivered and experience the place. Fresh noodles sitting in someone's car for 30-60 minutes before getting delivered are going to suffer and to clump up and stick beside losing the subtle fresh flavors known in Thai cuisines. Fresh served at the restaurant is the only way to go and totally unfair to the establishment.

Loved it! First time visitor. Great food, super service. Wasn't sure what to have and the server recommended the Biang Biang Noodles. Just the right amount of spice, dense (in a good way) noodles (solid! Held sauces and flavor) and I plan to have it again. Took away some cold dishes for tomorrow's lunch. Looking forward to that.

They finally reopened dine-in. We had a good time there tonight. Great food, clean tables, and great service. Really miss their food. They put a piano there. Don't know who's gonna play it but kinda cool!

What you would imagine an authentic Chinese restaurant to be like only this one is in Columbus Ohio just north of the university. Flavor profiles are amazing. To their credit, they do not dumb down their menus to cater to non-Asian diners. Noodles buns and so many choices- go for it. It's about time a city this size had good Chinese food!!!!

Jiu Thai is a delightful Chinese restaurant that never misses. I mean NEVER. Their hand pulled noodles have a chewy yet soft texture and are excellent no matter which broth base they're paired with (lamb, miso/pork, beef). Their charcoal BBQ items are tasty, too, but heavy on the salt. My favorite item on the menu is the Delicious Pork Sandwich. It's a must-have and might actually be my favorite sandwich in Columbus. It's simple, juicy, and full of umami flavor. I have eaten in the restaurant with its humble dining room a few times pre-pandemic, but now I just order delivery. My food almost always arrives steaming hot despite the restaurant being 7 miles away.

How it's possible that I haven't reviewed Jiu Thai before now ! It's one of the most delicious hand pulled noodle shop in Columbus ! Seriously we've tried the entire menu ... it's all wonderful ! They pack so much flavor in every bite ! If you haven't been ... go now , you'll be happy you did !

So--have you ever said to yourself, "I really gotta try that place, their _______is supposed to be the bomb"? And then you get mad at yourself because once you've tried it, you realize how much time you wasted? This is the restaurant. And Biang Biang Beef Noodles was the dish I finally tried. It's amazing. Handmade noodles, spicy spiciness, thin slices of beef . . . well, now you know you need to try it, because Biang Biang Beef is the bomb, and if you wait you're only hurting yourself. The dumplings were delicious also.

They feature more Northwestern Chinese dishes, and their handmade noodle dishes are spot-on. The service is fast, and the price is reasonable too! Some of the dishes I order every single time when I visit: * Biang Biang Noodle: I love wide thick noodles, and you can tell it is fresh made when you have the first bite! I always like to add some vinegar to it to balance the spicy flavor~ * Xi'an Steamed Cold Noodle: Great texture and very refreshing! Chili oil is a must-have~ * Delicious Pork Sandwich: the pork was well-seasoned, and I loved the crispy bun outside~ I also tried some other dishes: * Lamb Skewers: the lamb was tender and juicy, and the seasoning flavor was really good but a tiny bit salty~ * Dried Bean Curd Salad: I like dried bean curd a lot, but I felt it was under-seasoned * Delicious Lamb Sandwich: as yummy as pork sandwich

Love this place !!! Authentic as it can be !! Well they want this to be at least some numbers of characters. Anyways this place is awesome!!

Food was a 4, service was a 5. Came in as a party of two during lunchtime on a weekday and was seated right away. Ordered the following: 1) Delicious Pork Sandwich: was not a fan of the aftertaste 2) hand-pulled noodles: oily but quite delicious in terms of flavor and texture 3) Yuxian eggplant: VERY flavorful to the point that we wished we had more rice/side vegetables to dilute the flavor. The Yuxian eggplant was definitely the winner. Overall a pleasant experience, and reasonably priced. May come back at a later date to try their desserts.

Awesome cold noodle dish! All the noodles here are amazing but I love this dish, the sauce is little spicy but so good! The cilantro and sprouts give it a great freshness! My husband had the pad Thai and loved it as well! Pan fried dumplings are on point as well! I've liked everything I've tried:)

Although it has thai in the restaurant name, most of the dishes you see will be from Northern China. I am not familiar with some of these dishes so I was excited to try something new. I got the Biang Biang Noodles since they were reviewed highly and the description sounded delicious. Noodles, chili, spices, cilantro... sign me up. The hand stretched noodles were truly delicious. I saw these noodles listed in some other dishes on the menu that I'd like to try at some point. My boyfriend got the Pad Thai and we'd probably skip it next time. It was good, but not some of the flavor that you'd expect. Lastly the vegetable egg rolls were great, I would order these again. I probably wouldn't get the boba from here again. I got the Thai Tea with boba and I didn't care for the boba, and the thai tea was just OK. I can't wait to update my review with some other tasty new dishes!

Good was good. You have to pay for tegils on lemonade. Had to park on the street. Server was her good.

Biang Biang Noodles were so good! Love the fresh bok choy and garlic. Perfect level of spice and loved that they brought vinegar to the table. Nice quiet atmosphere.

Jiu Thai Asian Cafe was a gem to find when I was in Columbus and craving biang biang noodles. It's a small cozy restaurant that offers great service and tasty food. I really enjoyed the biang biang noodle. It had the nice vinegary chili taste paired with bouncy wide noodles that I have been craving. The lamb noodle soup was also super tasty and hit the spot. The only downside was the portion sizes were pretty small, but still a place I'd come back to

This place does a lot of to-go pick up orders it seems. They have a table set up with all the different online delivery apps. They do have a couple of tables to dine in available. I got the beef pad thai, a thai bubble tea, and a matcha macaron. The pad thai was really good and there was enough for two meals. The macaron was really tasty too, it was filled with raspberry jam. The service was fast and friendly. This is a great little spot on Bethel Road.

Ordered: Biang biang noodles In my memory, the biang biang noodles, fish tofu skewers, and red oil hand-pulled noodles at Jiu Thai's slap. I would say that the biang biang noodles are similar to Xi Xia's but have wider noodles, so choose whichever you might prefer noodle-wise. In the past, I've only ever had Jiu Thai's through take-out/delivery. However, I was a bit disappointed by my dine-in experience because the food was served in takeout containers and on paper plates. Additionally, the waitress was an aggressive Chinese nationalist. I probably won't be back by choice.

Love Jiu Thai... fresh, flavorful, spicy, authentic. NOT A THAI RESTAURANT... I know, weird name. Think Chinese / Asian fusion. Hand stretched noodles are outstanding, and if you think you don't like Tofu try Tiger Tofu!

The service was amazing but the food was most definitely not Tai which was disappointing!

We had 7 people in our party and called ahead for a reservation this weekend. Kim was our server and did a fantastic job of recommending dishes including noodles and house made dumplings. The food is always outstanding. This was a first time trying more authentic Chinese cooking for many in our party and the service and food were exceptional. Everyone can't wait to return!

So I ordered a number of items, however, it was not that good. The hand pulled noodles were sticky and had an unpleasant taste. The seaweed had some julienne cucumbers, but none of it tasted fresh. The sticky rice was ok along with the chicken sesame. The fried potstickers were good along with the sauce that accompanied them.

I order from Jiu Thai all of the time, it always satisfies my noodle cravings. So far I've tried the red oil lamb and red oil beef noodle soups, the Biang Biang noodles, lamb soup, and the pan fried dumplings. Pictured here are the pan fried dumplings appetizer and Biang Biang noodles (not spicy). I've had the Biang Biang noodles (spicy) before and it was way too hot for me, so I prefer not having spice at all. The pan fried dumplings were tasty, hot, and crispy. It came with 6 I think and a side of soy sauce. The Biang Biang noodles are delicious! I asked for extra noodles. It's extremely flavorful and garlicky, which I love. It comes with thin slices of beef, bok choy, and bean sprouts. I've always enjoyed every dish from this restaurant. I order from DoorDash normally. The only downside- they forgot to add my coke that I ordered, but it's not a big deal. The food is fresh and delicious, and of all hand-pulled noodles I've had in Columbus, I find Jiu Thai's noodles the best! I would highly recommend checking them out. You can't go wrong with any dish you order.

Ordered tonight for the second time. This time it was very disappointing (first time was over a year ago so unsure of exact quality). Other than the piece of steel cleaning brush in my wife's pad Thai the biang biang noodles were basically flavorless with so little beef I had to search for it in the dish. The dumplings were tasty at least. I would not recommend to anyone as they must have gone down iQuality or maybe just a bad night....

Wow, I was very blown away by this meal. We went with the intention to try a good mix of different things. All of which were delicious in their own ways. The fried dumplings and the Bigguy noodles where the stars of the show. The broth was spicy and delicious, the meat was tender and the noodles were fabulous. I will certainly be here again. The staff were all super kind and friendly, helpful with navigating the menu. This is the spot.

Excellent food. I've been driving by this place for years, had no idea about what I had been missing. It's not actually Thai. Food is just great, everything we tried was fantastic.

I ordered pad Thai and dragon tofu and both felt like I had ordered candy. I'm sorry for the bad review but it's honest. This iteration is the opposite of Thai

The food is delicious and the service is fast and so kind! I've had the hand pulled noodles, pork with bean curd, and chicken hearts! I've loved every entree and the price is good too! The only reason I give 4 instead of 5 stars is because the macaron I ordered was still frozen when I got it. The flavor was good but it wasnt crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside like a macaron should be. But I will be back for sure! :)

First time coming here and I loved it. Emma took my order and she was the nicest lady. I ordered the Shrimp Fried Rice mild spicy and I probably didn't wait more than 10 min. The rice, the shrimp, the veggies, all tasted great.

Biang Biang noodles (with beef) and lamb skewers were both awesome. Lot of flavor and high quality. Person I picked up the order from was nice as well.

When I found this, all I had to go off of was the reviews, but I have been bitten by that before. The food was delicious, fresh and exactly as ordered. Not to mention the delivery came 20min early on a Sunday night which never happens. If you want delicious Asian cuisine at a good price, look no further. Steamed Wontons - 4/5 Good size and filling. Decent flavor, but not a lot of it, would have liked a little more to it. Still tasty! Edamame - 5/5 Fresh and delicious Sesame Chicken - 5/5 Crispy, and not too sauced up. Subtle spice to it that made it 'pop' The serving was plenty to share with two people. Chicken Pad Thai - 3/5 This was good, but for me a bit too oily and did not have much peanut flavor as I have come to expect from Thai dishes like this. Grilled chicken skewers - 4/5 They had a bit of spice, but nothing that was overpowering. Would have liked them a little bigger for what you pay for them. We will certainly eat here again, the menu has many great options.

Not a fan. I ordered the Kung P. chicken and the peanuts were like the ones you'd put on an ice cream sundae. Chicken didn't taste fresh. I had only a few bites. Paid my bill and left a tip but wouldn't go back. Note: They do mostly takeout, not a place to take a date.

I ordered this on Uber eats and it was bland. The pad Thai is not pad Thai. There's barely any type of sauce and they put huge thick cuts of green pepper and nothing else. The fried rice also had no flavor. If you're looking for actual Thai food do not go here.

Solid solid Thai. The noodle dishes were amazing. The bok choy was done perfectly in the dish. The flavor aroma and color of the dish was better then what unexpected. Service was quick and they where busy. I will be back many times.

This is by far the worst Thai restaurant I have ever been to, and I have been to a lot of different Thai restaurants around Columbus. I ordered the most expensive item on the menu the lamb chop stir fry, and there was barely any meat on the bones, not to mention it was over seasoned with salt and a lot of very spicy chilly flakes. After that my stomach grumbled, and was upset for the rest of the day. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody unless you want a miserable day with a stomach ache.
