The food is always great. We've been eating here for a while and the wait staff is always courteous. I had the migas and my wife had the breakfast tacos, and we shared the churro pancakes, which were delicious!!

JJ’s Cafe in Dallas is where breakfast dreams go to live their best life. Let’s start with the super chilaquiles (red)—slightly spicy, perfectly crunchy, and who even thinks of including birria with them, and honestly, if I could legally marry a plate of food, this would be it. I almost wrote them a thank-you card. Then came the green chilaquiles, and suddenly I was in a full-blown tortilla love triangle. They’ve got just the right kick—like they were made by a loving abuela who also moonlights as a spice wizard. Churro pancakes? I don’t even know how to explain the joy. Imagine pancakes went on vacation to Mexico, fell in love with a churro, and their delicious baby landed on my plate. I briefly blacked out from happiness. And the waffle? Fluffy, warm, covered in strawberries and whipped cream—it felt like a rom-com moment where I locked eyes with my food and soft music played in the background. I may have whispered, “Don’t ever leave me.” Service was fast, friendly, and somehow didn’t judge me for ordering enough food to feed a small army. 15/10, will return with stretchy pants and zero regrets.

I tried this place for the first time the other day, the service was a little slow, One Lady who didn’t look like a waitress took my order, then it was delivered by some other guy who did look like a waiter, he dropped the food and left. Took me a while to find someone who could get me more coffee, they brought no water to the table I had to ask for, so we’re really didn’t have an assigned waiter, we had to ask for things to any random person who works there and they sound facilítate. Food presentation was OK but nothing special. Food taste was below average to me, nothing special. Room ambience very uninviting.

Saw an instagram video on this place and I felt like I was catfished. Atmosphere was next to none, but the service was pretty good. We were seated immediately for my large party. Food definitely looked better than it tasted. We had the chocolate chip pancakes, the California omelette, the French toast, and strawberry Belgium waffles. The pancakes were just ordinary nothing to write home about. Syrup came in to go cups despite us dinning in and it was not warm maybe room temp. The French toast was plain, lacking the vanilla taste and creamy texture that makes French toast well French toast! The butter was not whipped it was hard so not easily spreadable. My omelette was okay, again nothing to write home about. The omelette came with potatoes O’Brien and the waiter said in his opinion they had more flavor than the hash browns. They had no seasoning and were plain. The Belgium waffles were the prettiest of the dishes but honestly, the taste reminded me of the ones you make in hotel breakfasts. Would not recommend, would not come back. 3/10.

I'm a regular at JJ's. I found them during Covid and frequent the restaurants and usually take someone with me. The food is good. The portions are ample. The staff is friendly and I love that they recognize me. Their prices are such that you can feed your family and not have to spend a great amount of money. I've tried many dishes, but my favorite are the chilaquiles verde mixed with a little rojo sauce.

Google
Me and the family came after church on a Sunday and were seated almost immediately. The service was really good and all the employees were friendly. The presentation of the food was excellent, however, the taste was just not there for me. My wife and kids agreed that the food did not taste like anything. It was not bad but the seasoning was definitely missing. Also, I felt the menu lacked sufficient choices. For instance, I settled for a brisket omelette simple because there was not an "regular" omelette choice, like ham and cheddar or sausage and bacon. Prices were okay, maybe on the higher side but not too bad.

Google
A wonderful breakfast / brunch spot.Saw an instagram post and had to try it. I got there around 9am and was seared immediately. I would recommend reserving if you go after 19, since it got crowded from then. The service was really good and all the employees were friendly. I got the strawberry Nutella waffles and they were excellent. They make their own whipped cream, which was rich and dense. Def recommend!

Google
We brought out my in-laws here for the first time, nice food selection, short wait time being a busy Saturday! but unfortunately our server was not having it today, i too work in the food industry and I completely understand feeling overwhelmed or flustered when it’s busy and hectic but if fed off through out my family and the rest of the tables near us, Still left 25% tip as I do believe in second chances!

Yelp
This place never misses! Our go to, exceptionally delicious, every time breakfast spot. Be prepared for crowds on the weekends, but the food is always well worth the wait.

Yelp
I like this place. It's very spacious inside - it could easily accommodate a banquet or a family gathering of some kind. I ordered the Huevos Divorciados which is corn tortillas filled with refried beans and topped with fresh avocado. One egg is topped with ranchero sauce and the other egg is topped with salsa verde. It's served with O'Brien potatoes. Muy delicioso!

Yelp
The wait time for two people on a Sunday was ~20min. We were sat at 12:55 and left the restaurant at 2:11. We felt the food took a while to come out, and so did the check once we asked to pay. I ordered the caramel macchiato which was basically diabetes in a cup. I couldn't drink even half of it. My boyfriend had asked for water as a refill and was brought back another horchata which was not free and not communicated. The food was ok. I ordered the red chilaquiles with birria. The meat portion wasn't enough, and the sauce was not a level 3 spice. Seemed more like a level 1 to me. My boyfriend got the chicken and waffles, which were not flavordu We shared a plate of the tres leches pancakes, but they were a bit dry. No syrup was provided and frankly, we didn't want to wait another 5min for them to bring that by. I wouldn't come back in all honesty. I was extremely disappointed to have paid $61 for an experience that felt inconvenient.

Yelp
Staff were helpful Food was okay the chicken tasted like can chicken Inside of the place was okay maybe a little older.

Yelp
Came here on Mother's Day so they were busy but we made reservations and waited maybe 20 minutes to be seated. The staff were nice and checked up on us. Our food came out warm/cooled down but the waffle n chicken was good still. The tres leches pancake was the highlight!!

Yelp
This place was busy early! We got there around 8:30am on Sunday. It was very roomy. I enjoyed the attentive service. I would not get the chorizo and egg again, just wasn't flavorful. The beans were very good! And the potatoes obrian was more onions & bell pepper than potatoes. The chicken& waffles were AMAZING! we really enjoyed the waffles. Also got a side of bacon & eggs, sooo delicious

Yelp
Friendly neighborhood spot for breakfast and lunch. The chilaquiles is a touted dish and so it should be. The refried beans at JJ's are exceptional. Service is generally attentive and efficient. The ambiance is ok and the space is clean and there is plenty of space for everyone. JJ's is also an event space available to rent in the evenings. Convenient location just off east Northwest Highway and Easton/Ferndale.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying my family and I love JJs and have eaten here many times. The tres leches pancakes are to die for. Our usuals are chilaquiles, waffle tower, cheeseburger and breakfast tacos. That being said I came during the week on my own to try the birria ramen I saw posted Infront. What a let down. I wish there was an easy way to communicate with the owners that I feel like it's such a fail. I looked for pictures online but couldn't find any anywhere. If I would have known it was going to be a large cup of the tapatío Instant noodle mix with birria in it I would not have ordered it. Especially not for $15. I had to put a bunch of the onions and cilantro in it to eat it. Such a turn off to be eating out of a large paper bowl in a restaurant. Please, post a picture of it somewhere so people are not shocked when you come out with an instant ramen like bowl of soup.

Yelp
I called the restaurant at 9:30am on May 11th to try to place a to go order. All I wanted was some tres leches pancakes for my wife and my mother to surprise them for Mother's Day. I was told I couldn't place an order over the phone. I drove to the restaurant to try to place the order there at 10am, and was told that they weren't doing to go orders due to being extremely busy. The restaurant was nearly empty and a lot of tables were open. The website says "Drop by or phone in an order and then take it home yourself." So I am very disappointed in not being able to surprise my wife a mother with their favorite pancakes. I understand with holidays that it can sometimes be over whelming, so maybe there should be a disclaimer on the website saying "no call ins on holidays" or something of that nature. But in today's situation, there was no wait for dine in, so I don't understand how difficult it would have been to make one to-go order. There was literally no one waiting outside. I've been here when it's busy, so I know how it looks. Today was no where near it. Also, don't email their email on their webpage. Gets you nowhere.

Yelp
I held a morning meeting for 11 people at JJs. I had JJs prepare a breakfast buffet and it was fantastic. Breakfast Tacos, Pancakes, O'Brian Potatoes, Fresh Fruit, and coffee to wash it all down. JJs is a great place to meet! #jjscafe #eastdallaschamber #gedcc #livelocal #eatlocal #smallbiz

Yelp
Drove the 30+ minutes specifically for their menudo. Possibly best I've ever had. Tipico's is a close second in taste but wins out in both distance (from me) as well as offering menudo daily, not just Saturday and Sunday. But if you're near JJ's, then by all means go! Big place. Busy. Decent service. Extensive menu with a good variety!

Yelp
Plenty of parking. Went on a Sunday around 10am, there was 8 of us. The wait was about 30 min, not bad for a large group on the weekend. It seemed to be kind of busy. We finally sat down and the service seemed to be good, they got our drinks out quickly and the server seemed to be knowledgeable. I asked for chilaquiles verdes and asked if the chicken was shredded, he said yes so I asked him to add it. Before our food arrived there were 4 flies flying around our table (we were in the back in the corner). We asked if they could kill the flies and they said no because they might fly onto a customers plate. We asked to be moved they said we would have to wait another 30 minutes. They also said they were very aware of all the flies but couldn't do anything about it. A table opened up and we moved. When we got our food, a couple of plates were wrong. The chicken was chicken fajita strips, not shredded. When one of the plates was taken back to be fixed (birria tacos), they never brought it back. When we asked them to take it off the table they said they don't even serve birria. After we moved, we had different people coming to our table to give us service and no one knew what was going on. One server told us they didn't have salsa, then another brought salsa to our table. They also gave us our tab as soon as we got our plates. Very weird. The food was bland. Overall, not a good experience and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

Yelp
It's been quite a while since I had been to JJ's and my friend and I decided to have breakfast there after church. While the menu was filled with a vast array of breakfast choices, we both opted for th Huevos Rancheros. She had scrambled eggs. Mine were over easy. Eggs came on a corn tortilla. They were topped with a spicy red sauce and slices of avocado. Potatoes O'Brien and refried beans were included. Eggs were cooked to perfection. The meals were both delicious and hearty. Everything was from scratch. Service was friendly, helpful, and prompt. Ambiance was as I remembered it. One large room with two smaller rooms. All three comfortably full on this day. All in all a tasty and comfortable visit. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Went to JJ's cafe for the first time and I ordered the chilaquiles which were okay. The salsa was not too spicy and the chicken was a bit dry. I also ordered some pumpkin pancakes and I will say those are some of the best pancakes I've had. The pumpkin flavor is there and not overly sweet. Will definitely be coming back for those pancakes. Our waiter was amazing he took care of us well and for our order in super quickly. Food came out pretty fast! Keep in mind that the restaurant does get pretty busy so there will be a bit of a wait but overall they seated us pretty quickly.

Yelp
The perfect hangover meal ! I highly recommend the tres laches pancakes and the verde chilaquiles ! Amazing !!!! There was a bunch of parking outside and I was sat down right away since we were a party of 4. Our sever was very nice and helpful in explaining the menu! I even took some to go since the portions are so big and ate it later and they were still yummy !! Can't wait to come back !!

Yelp
We had the green chilaquiles, huevos divorciados and a pancake and sausage for the little one. Great seevice.

Yelp
We called ahead to reserve a table and they allowed us! Once we arrived we were already on teh list and were seated immidiatley getting there. We ordered the Huevos Rancheros , Green chilaquiles w/ Birria, and an american breakfast. First the Huevos rancheros were good and spicy, the menu says it comes with some torillas but my sister was never given any, and when asked the lady said it was on the bottom of the eggs - just a little confused. I had teh green chilaquiles and they were okay, not spicy and the birria was actually good. They gave me a small cup on the size of it - it was well flavored, again no tortillas with mine either. The portions were okay would have like more beans but the flavors and dish were good! the American breakfast was simple just eggs and hashbrowns with sauges links. Was really busy when we left and there was a line to pay to get out the door with only one girl at the register. It made it on our list to try again when we come back to Dallas.

Yelp
Are you looking for a spot that checks your sweet and savory boxes? Well, look no further because JJ's Cafe is here. I had brunch at JJ's and I literally was in heaven! My sweet tooth was in full effect so I decided to try all the sweet dishes I could (seriously though, no exaggeration ) My favorite would have to be the Tres Leches Pancakes!!! They were a literal DREAM and my mouth still waters thinking about them! Plus, on the weekends JJ's really shows love and gives you two complimentary mimosas with your order That's a pretty great deal to me!

Yelp
Was wanting some breakfast food yesterday and found JJ's Cafe on Yelp, so a trip there was made. It was packed with a 30 min wait, but we got seated afterwards. The interior reminds of a wedding venue with tables not spread too far apart. I ordered the Crazymely Waffle (has strawberries, bananas, Nutella, and whipped cream) and O'Brien potatoes (potatoes with bell peppers and onions) with a request for crispier potatoes. I was completely blown away and not prepared in any way for how delicious these things were! The waffle was crispy yet soft. They actually added a lot of fruit on the waffle, and with the Nutella and whipped cream, I can assure you syrup is not necessary because it is sweet enough to me. The potatoes were also really crisp and salted very nicely and were not undercooked! I also had a bite of the tres leches pancake which was delicious and may be the next thing I get here! The prices here are incredible! Everything in the photos cost under $30. I only ate half the waffle and had to take the rest home. I don't think you can get high-quality food like this for low prices ($10 for the waffle was insanely cheap)! The service here was good, even if there wasn't anything memorable about it. Also, JJ's Cafe serves lunch (the catfish in particular looked real good) which I want to try one day. Overall, this cannot be the last time I come to JJ's. They are far too good to not try! This was a fabulous hole-in-the-wall type of place, and I am so glad this place is officially on my food radar. Please visit this place if you want great, cheap breakfast! I will definitely be back here sooner than later!

Yelp
Food is always delicious! Today i tried the huevos divorciados with the birria, super tasty! I do wish they would have given me more birria but overall was delicious!

Yelp
We got there at a good time for a Sat morning. We were greeted and sat down almost immediately. The waitress came by and took drink orders and kept coming back until we were ready to order. She was very attentive. The environment was very inviting. Now, for the food, words do not describe how AMAZING all the food was from the first bite to the last. If you are in Dallas, please do stop by here, you will not regret it.
google avatar

Victoria E.

Yelp
Early Sunday breakfast Tiki Hubby had the chicken fried steak with two eggs hash browns and sourdough toast. Not one of the best CFS but it was good served hot and fresh. I had to order the Crunchy French toast, soooo good fluffy bread covered in cornflakes and sliced almonds cooked crispy and crunchy. Delicious served with syrup but comes covered in powdered sugar so sweet enough as is.
google avatar

Lukia K.

Yelp
I ordered the huevos rancheros, which was very flavorful! The most delicious breakfast I've had in a while. Service was amazing- servers never let your coffee cup run empty. Will definitely be back when I get the chance!

Yelp
A little bit of a wait but it was worth it. Good food and calm ambiance. Service was friendly and attentive.

Yelp
The best breakfast place! Can't go wrong with anything on the menu! My kids go nuts for the Crazy Mely Waffle!

Kim B.

Yelp
Great Service ! Delicious food ! Worth the wait on a busy Sunday morning. Our waiter was Juan and he did a great job , love when a waiter plays along with classic dad jokes. Highly recommend the red salsa chilaquiles and Belgian Waffles! Great ambiance too! Spacious layout

Marian F.

Yelp
The food was good until I found a long black hair. Hairnets, People, Hairnets! Never going back

Jessica G.

Yelp
The food was really good my husband got the super chilaquiles and he loved them , the service was great we didn't wait long at all for the food and it was pretty busy ! Only issue was I don't know if they have kids meals I brought my children and I was just offered the normal menu no kids menu overall 9/10 recommend !!

Yelp
Esto es lo peor esperas casi 1hora para agarrar mesa más 30 minutos para que te sirvan la comida y te sirven la comida mal platos quebrados tazas quebradas no recomiendo este lugar huevos crudos hash brown Quemado horrible lugar!

Yelp
JJs is an institution here in the Old Lake Highlands/ Lake Highlands area. Food has been consistently good. I come here a couple times a month. Service the staff is friendly and accommodating. Ambiance, here's where things have kind of gone down hill a bit. Kids running around unsupervised. Loud noisy family gatherings. Long waits dirty tables because they are rushing to clear the table for the next guest. My most recent visit I discovered a gross syrupy stain on my clothes probably from the chair I was sitting in. I can't recommend coming here on the weekends. Weekdays seem to be more pleasant here. I know much of my experience here in the weekends was tainted by the clientele, nothing the restaurant can really control.

Joshua M.

Yelp
Wow this is a hidden gem in Dallas! We had the Super Chilaquiles with Birria meat, and also elected to have both red and green salsas on our chilaquiles. We were in heaven with that plate alone, but then tried the crunchy French toast that has sliced almost and corn flakes cooked on to the bread. The crunchiness of this dish was amazing. Our waiter was attentive and the cooks were fast to deliver. I'd give this a 9.7 out of 10. I would've been a 10 if our iced caramel macchiato had better caramel flavor.
google avatar

Yelp
Came in here after seeing so many posts about this place. It was near my home and actually never passed by the area. They have a salon in the side as well that they use as restaurant space and you can also rent it for events. It was Sunday and the lovely waitress mentioned menudo and I thought why not. The menudo was very good the spices were on point and not chewy at all. My wife and I had to get an order of the tres leches pancakes and omg that stuff right there is delicious. My wife ordered the huevos divorciados which were eggs fried on top of corn tortillas smothered in green and red sauce. Over all the place was excellent and will be back I highly recommend to it come check them
google avatar

Gabriela G.

Yelp
I came in today for lunch. Food was good, server was nice. When it came time to pay , I checked in to use the 10% off they have advertised on Yelp, they did not take it and I spoke to the manager SANDRA and she was rude & not apologetic at all, she didn't care and walked away . Why have the 10% off check in if they're not going to accept it! I was very disappointed !
google avatar

Charles C.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing! Now if you don't like restaurants who allow smoking then it isn't for you. I didn't mind the food was fresh and would definitely go back old school diner feel.

Yelp
Buen servicio y buena presentación de comida pero la comida no es realmente buena, probé unos chilaquiles pero parecía que la salsa es de la que compran en latas Good service and good food presentation but the food is not really good, I tried some chilaquiles but it seemed that the sauce is the one they buy in cans

Andrew D.

Yelp
food was alright. Ordered migas and got a special surprise hair in it! Also got chicken tenders and they were overcooked to the point where the texture was like beef. huevos divorciados were good however. wait time was almost an hour but service and staff were extremely nice and helpful.

Yelp
El servio que tuve hoy por primera vez pesimo la comoda fue buena pero el mesero que nos toco de nombre Juan nos dio un pesimo servicio no vuelvo

Yelp
I really had high hopes for this place as im big on reading reviews prior to going to eat anywhere. Took forever before someone came to ask us about drinks. The waitress was an older lady seemed like she was hard of hearing. We were sat down before a party of 6 and it took over an hour for our food to come out. I had drank 2 cups of coffee and still no food. Our food came out at the same time as the party of 6. My chilaquiles were all soggy and steak overcooked and prob like room temp. You could tell it was sitting up there and no one had brought it out. The girl who brought our food was not even our waitress. My husband asked for red onions on his burger and it was missing. Plus it was cold and the bread was soggy. Also, his cheeseburger had shredded cheese on it. Not sure if this is a Texas thing.. but was very odd. Then, she leaves our check at the table along with bringing the food. Is that normal? I've never seen that in Chicago. That to me speaks like eat and get out. Like we're not gonna be checked on after that. Plus we didn't to be honest. I was gonna ask for a to go cup but no one was around so we just left. This is exactly how i left my plate. Not even worth eating. Do better.

Yelp
I'm always looking for new place to eat breakfast Well I think I've found a very good place very big restaurant lots of sitting and very clean the food was very good the waitresses We're very attentive to the customers very pleased with this place. Glad I found it.

Yelp
We came with a big group this morning for breakfast. I had the California egg's Benedict's with hash brown and also coffee. They were good. The only pet peeve is that I came from Allen area through 635 going east, and the constructions are everywhere along 635 East now. Just drive carefully if you take that route. It's a good restaurant and I'd go back again soon.
google avatar

Yelp
I am sometimes amazed at reviews on here. Then again, perhaps I caught this place on a bad day when the regular staff and cooks were off. We had just missed the posted breakfast buffet times by 20 minutes and we were shown to a table. The place was about 1/4 full. The mirrors made it seem bigger than it was. There is a large adjacent room closed off with a sliding partition and people were filtering into it. The furniture reminded me of a large Chinese Buffet. After what seemed like they gave us time to memorize the order, they took our order. I ordered the Country Scramble and a short stack of pancakes. My iced tea set a bad tone as it had a funky taste and I don't mean funky good like Niles Rodgers or George Clinton. I bet they would have agreed. The food came out somewhat quickly as we discovered the buffet was still open and our waitress didn't even give us that option. My scramble looked way better than it was. The potatoes were cold and the green peppers tasted old. The eggs were slightly over cooked. The pancakes were crumbly in a soft way. Service was slow and had to be reminded to bring syrup and refills more than 2 times. Not a good encounter this time.

Yelp
Great food and service. Fantastic Mexican food with authentic flavors. Wife and I tried breakfast and will be back for lunch.
