Everything is relative...
Wine tasting in Woodinville is completely different from wine tasting in Napa or Temecula. Not only are the wines in all the aforementioned areas tremendously different in quality and variety, but the tasting room experiences are as different as night and day.
For those who simply want to get plastered in as few stops as possible, then Woodinville would probably be ranked highest of the three areas I named; the average pour size is generous, and their tasting fees are the most reasonable. Napa would probably be ranked by most as the place with the best quality wines, and Temecula is a good candidate for the place with the worst average tasting room experience - at least in my book ;-)
On to the specifics of JM Cellars!
This is a small, family-run operation where the wine is grown in Eastern Washington State. Their tasting room is a bit apart from most of the other venues in Woodinville; it's up on a hill in a lovely setting with outdoor seating available both for groups and individuals. The interior of the tasting room is warm and welcoming, and the wines are quite good by Woodinville standards.
I recently a friend to Woodinville so she could have her first wine tasting experience. We made six stops that day, and the one that struck her best was JM Cellars. The Sommeliers here were all very pleasant, and one of them really went the extra mile helping my friend understand and appreciate some of the nuances of wine tasting vs. wine drinking. That welcoming helpfulness, along with some really enjoying wine pours, really did the trick for us that day :-)
Tip: Of the five pours we received (for a $15 tasting fee), I particularly enjoyed the 2014 Longevity. It's a Bordeaux-style blend featuring grapes from Stillwater Creek Vineyard; I found this complex, rich, full-bodied wine surprising drinkable now, and expect that it will only get better with cellaring.
For me, JM Cellars has provided a consistently enjoyable tasting room experience the past few times I've come in. I have no hesitation in recommending that you add it to your short-list of tasting rooms in Woodinville.
