Joe Brown's Carmel Corn

The location in the Lloyd center tastes nothing like it used to. The carmel was burnt, so it gave a bitter after taste. The cheese flavor was flat. The bag wasn't even greasy. If you grew up eating this popcorn, you know there should be cheese dust in the bag! The MLK location tastes much better.

Went there on a first date last Saturday and the proprietor was very friendly, more than happy to give me a quick tester since I don't wanna buy mediocre caramel corn, and we were both blown away with the flavor and texture. It was fresh still warm with every corn kernal was covered with that wonderfully buttery,sweet flavor of. Caramel. I don't know how it used to be but I can say how it was for us and it gets a 5 star rating from us and has earned repeat visits from us❤️⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Diane

Joe Brown's Caramel Corn was pretty tasty. Got a small bag of caramel corn (Price $4.95) and cheesy cheese corn ( Price $4.95). They also sell caramel apples (Price $6.50) With nuts it's Extra. I would recommend getting the cheesy corn. It was sort of better in my opinion, than the caramel corn.

This place has been around since Lloyd Center opened over 60 years ago. The original owner is gone but the place is still “popping out” the best Carmel corn and cheese corn in the Portland. I make my pilgrimage from Beaverton ever so often to fill our tin when guests come into town. The new owner is awesome! She is also native portlander who has enjoyed this place since she was a kid. I do not feel unsafe at Lloyd Center Mall. Sometimes there’s an event going on and always the skating rink. Go get you corn. It’s always fresh and the prices are sooo reasonable and you’re keeping a local institution alive.

After watching the lady who works the counter at the Lloyd Center location, dump a large plastic bag of caramel corn into the window bin, I asked if it was a fresh batch, she replied that she made it yesterday. When I politely declined a purchase, she made a face and a rude remark under her breath as she walked away shaking her head… I apologized for upsetting her, and she continued with the rude face and attitude and said that I didn’t upset her… Call me crazy, but when I’m paying $10 for a small box of popcorn, I’d like it to be fresh, not day old… and not from a crap attitude or dirty unhygienic employee. This is not the first negative interaction, including poor hygiene (not washing hands, wiping nose, coughing etc.) that I’ve encountered with this person over the years, I guess it’s time to pass on Joe Brown’s - at least at this location.

Came to the mall just to get this stuff! My husband did the purchasing, I don't remember the exact prices, but it is a pretty penny. Tastes great and is supporting a piece of Portland history. It is easy to find in the mall. Second story right above the skating rink. The shop itself is tiny and you might have to wait, but that's because this place is popular!

Joe's Carmel Corn that we received online was terrible. Their popcorn used to be the best, but this batch was off tasting and burnt. It made both my husband and I sick. Tried emailing and calling. Poor customer service, so we weren't able to resolve the issue. We will never buy Joe's Carmel Corn ever again.

Hello! I just wanted to say that I was in the store about two weeks ago with my son. There was a lady there who was so helpful and accommodating, being that I have never been there. I didn't remember her name, however, she was definitely ethnic and had an exotic appearance. She gave me samples of different flavors and interactive and catered very well with my son . She was welcoming and because of this, I will definitely be back. I ended up purchasing the BBQ and cheese mix and Oregon style that she recommended. My son walked away with the cotton candy and Carmel apple. The service was phenomenal and I will definitely be returning. Hopefully she’ll be there!

I used Joe Brown's for a company event--wow. it's as good as I remember from my childhood. I'd never tried the Oregon Style... It was addictive! Customer service was great! My order was packed and shipped immediately.

Got a batch today from here and I remember this as a kid! Super generous portion and so glad they stuck it in a bag for the plane ride but it's a little burnt this batch. Still would come back but a little too toasted.

Who doesn't love Joe Brown's Carmel Corn. It's always such a delight. I suggest getting the refillable containers because it's so fun and def saves you money if you go a few times. Cheddar, White Cheddar, Carmel Corn are my faves to mix. It's so dangerously good & delicious. Once you stop, you can't stop.

Enjoy your Lloyd center caramel corn while you can. Their lease goes to summer 22 then after that who knows. Been going here since I was little. The best caramel and cheese corn. I like to get it Chicago style where they mix the two together. Super friendly staff and such a yummy snack!

Easily the best caramel corn I've ever had. It's a must-stop for me before live games or even a big game that I'll be watching from home. A great game-day treat. Plus, other types of corn that are popular as well, along with a large selection of candy options. My wife loves their sour balls.

Best Carmel corn in portland hands down,been going there for years.I heard Lloyd center was closing down so I tried calling many times and no answer.I thought I would try one more time ,and a girl answered, I said I saw an article that you were closing by summer of 2022, she said she's never heard that rumor, she said we're not closing.

The Caramel Corn is very good, both w/peanuts and without. HOWEVER, STAY AWAY from all of the chocolates. Hideously stale. You'll vomit from or spit out your first bite. Please get rid of this part of your offerings entirely. It's an embarrassment. The Service is fine, pleasant, but Joes: Stop pretending you can provide even moderately fresh chocolates of any kind. Multnomah County Health Dept might agree. I understand that there's likely little turnover regarding this product, so, hard to keep fresh. But shame on you for actively ignoring the obvious and stop promoting it - or say good-bye to your reputation.

This place seems to be an institution, so when I was at the ice rink I decided to check it out. I got the regular caramel corn and really enjoyed it. Very tasty, warm, and the small was quite a lot! My daughter and I could only finish about half of it before feeling stuffed. The staff was friendly and the place seemed clean. I'd come back here again.

Owner verbally attacked my friend at the new location. She turned around in the driveway and he came running out at her cussing. She tried to explain that she worked nearby and had forgotten something. She was just turning around. She tried to calm him down by apologizing even though she did nothing wrong. He grew more aggressive and she feared for her life. Beware of this aggressive owner. She didn't want to post because she was afraid. But I'm not and think it's BS that he would treat a community member like this. She is a professional, in a nice car, and dresses business casual. There was no reason for the owner to approach her with such aggressive. Check your ego Bro.

Joe Brown's Carmel Corn well what can you do for me..my popcorn was HORRRRIBLE after spending 25$ and throwing it all away I'm sooo disappointed..I have never had caramel where 1/3 of what's popped had no caramel..and barely any flavor on the white cheddar,cheddar..I'm lost and the popcorn was actually stale/old since it get sent over from the LLOYD CENTER ..I'm so confused I use to buy at least 4-5xs a month I can't do it if I'm getting a bad product...Martin Luther King store..

I've been an online customer for a little over two years now and their caramel corn is amazing! The Oregon Mix is fantastic, too. Over the holidays, they started offering the corn in bulk! Yes! The shipping charges are a little hard to choke down, but by following them on Facebook, I got a 20% discount code. The shipping is always fast and the weights were accurate. (I have to admit that I did check because it just didn't feel like five pounds, but it definitely was). Two thumbs way up from this happy Minnesota customer!

I placed an online order last weekend and paid via PayPal. I received the email confirmation from PayPal, but never received anything from Joe Brown's, so I emailed from the website a couple of days ago to confirm that my order had been received. No response. Called the store today and the call almost immediately went into an unidentified voicemail. Not sure what is going on, but I am not impressed.

Sooooo delicious and addictive! The Oregon mix is everything and they are also on Uber eats. Best popcorn ever. The kool aid pickles are definitely something you should try at least once.

Was in town for a visit from CA. My dad asked me to bring him back some of their caramel popcorn which reminds him of his childhood. The happy lady that helped me provided me great customer service. My cousin who is local also got their caramel popcorn mixed with the cheese popcorn. Thats a great mix too! Thanks again!! :) Look forward to buying more on my next visit to Portland.

Sent my brother in CA one of each flavor and he loves them! Everything was shipped with no issues!

Buyer beware! I used my debit card and was charged twice for my purchase. After 7 phone calls, 1 email, 1 voicemail, and being hung up on twice, I was told to drive to the store to retrieve my refund. Staff informed me they had attempted to refund my card and call, but no messages were received and my bank had no record of an attempt from the store. Another staff person also informed me that one of the people who hung up on me was the owner. Why is this an acceptable means of customer service? And the folks who refunded me didn't seem at all concerned about my length of time and effort in acquiring my refund. They walked off with their hands up and said "oh well".

i had the lloyd ctr caramel corn decades ago, and they just opened the ne mlk store recently....it is located at 5601 ne mlk, and we have tried it twice now....the first time we had the cheesy popcorn, and white cheddar, and yesterday tried the caramel corn.....the staff member was busy making a fresh batch while we waited and it was fascinating to observe....i had the older caramel corn with nuts, and my partner had the fresh batch....it was how i remember it decades ago, so delicious!...the store was busy, and we look forward to trying joe's bar next door for a beer/snacks.....thx so much!

The best cheesecorn you will find. Most others are way too salty, Joe Brown cheesecorn is perfect!

This goes through my mind every time I set foot in Lloyd Center, but it always happens, I find myself on the second level heading straight for this place. I am weak, but I am one happy weak man! Carmel corn, dude! How can you not?!? To refer to Joe Brown's as simply carmel corn is a disservice to this place and the product they serve. If there is a better product out there I would love to find it, but so far that hasn't happened. It would be a disservice to Yelp to stop looking, so I'll keep working on that. The mall is well suited for handicapped access, a solid A for that.

I love this little popcorn shop in the Lloyd Center. We don't have fresh popcorn shops in the UK and it makes me feel like I'm really on holiday when I visit. Now, Yelpers, listen close. I'm going to tell about something, which may sound strange but is in fact delicious. Chicago mix, which is an equal mix of cheese and carmel popcorn is a perfect blend of sweet and savoury. Try it. You'll thank me!

Alright so there's not much to add on this but it's the popcorn place inside of the mall. They do have some candy items but they have mostly popcorn. They have cheesy popcorn, Caramell corn, and regular popcorn. For each pampering they come in three different sizes but be careful because the specialty popcorn (cheesy and caramel) actually come in smaller boxes in the regular popcorn the only way I found that out was because I had gotten a box of caramel corn and I friend had gotten a box of regular popcorn in the boxes with different sizes and different prices. So obviously the specialty popcorn cost more and you get less when you think you're buying the same size. The popcorn itself so good. Let me repeat that so good. But I love popcorn, all popcorn. It's rare for me to meet a popcorn that I don't like. But I really didn't like about the place, it was that it looked really dirty. They had things hanging over the walls and they were all kind of faded, and really really dusty and dirty. The probably shouldn't have bought popcorn from there, but like I said I love popcorn.

Not a local. Visited Portland in April for old time's sake. Ventured around changing Lloyd Center and wandered into Joe Brown's. I figured why not and bought a medium size of the Oregon Style mix and continued walking around........... The Oregon Style mix is the best rendition of Caramel and Cheddar I've ever had in my LIFE. It's not just caramel and cheese popcorn, but nicely cheesed (is that a word?) popcorn covered in a really good buttery, sweet caramel glaze. They really did a good job on this popcorn there. Bought 1 more bag before I left the mall to bring home to family. It's been months.. literally think about this specific popcorn often. And that's why I'm writing this review right now lol. Sad that it looks like Lloyd Center is about to be a ghost town. Hoping Lloyd center won't be or isn't your only location. A+ on that popcorn Joe Brown's

I am from Portland and I grew up going to Joe Brown's at Lloyd Center, as a kid it was a special treat to eat the caramel / cheese popcorn, licorice ropes, ICEE's and peanut clusters. It's something I remember fondly about growing up. I haven't lived in Portland since 2003 and man do I miss it. I definitely took for granted all the great places I grew up on and with the pandemic I'm hearing it may be closed temporarily or for good( which I hope isn't the case). Portland is such a special place and no matter where I live I will always be a Oregonian.

Fabulous popcorn! So Delicious..there is no other caramel popcorn like it! Seriously addicting! Beware...you might be entering into a lifelong habit!

I LOVE this place! I've been going here since a child growing up in northeast Portland. My mom would take us here pretty much weekly through the years and changes to lloyd center. We always had a box of caramel corn and an icee. Even now, the caramel corn is just as good. Warm, fresh, buttery caramel inside that white box. I'm about to get smushy here: It's a box full of love from the high schooler's angst that's working here part time while attending benson or franklin high. And almost always when it's warm- it's like a huge bear hug inside my mouth! Good job awkward sassy teens, good job. I often go for a box before heading to PDX for my flight or atleast visit it once during my stay in Portland. A lot if times you can see these guys making the caramel corn too. I'll have to take my little bro bro when I come back to Portland as the last times I've been back we've been going on a frozen yogurt spree. I'm hoping this place lives forever. Love caramel corn. Been going here for ages. It's gotta be one of the oldest stores to occupy the mall. The caramel corn is always fresh and the cheese popcorn is equally as good. Try them both actually, "Chicago Style,". It sounds gross, cheese and caramel corn together, but trust me it works. The sweet with the salty. That can't be beat.

This is the best popcorn out. It has the best flavor not like those stale flavorless popcorns in the tin. I will be recommending this to all my friends and family.

I had a hankering for some caramel corn so I drove the few miles to try it out and I was not disappointed! I ended up getting both caramel and cheese popcorn (because who can say no to cheese?). Every bite was crunchy and sweet - a true flavor dance in my mouth! They also have a variety of bulk candy options and I found some jelly bellies I've been looking for for a few months (pink grapefruit). I've literally looked in a dozen candy stores for this flavor and nobody else has it! The best part of it all though was the friendly service. I was greeted right away even though there were a few others being helped. I was given samples so I could make my decisions and the women working there was patient and kind. I'll be going back for sure!

OMG CHEESE CORN. Visited Portland and found this shop in the mall accross from our hotel. Chicago style popcorn and cheesecorn! Just like when I was a kind. I ordered a giant cheesecorn and packed it to go home with me. Yes, I am a pig.

Joe browns is a jewel of the Lloyd Center. I remember walking from Benson High school, thru the field and to the mall...Joe Browns was almost a definite stop. The cheesy popcorn is unparalleled. Salted chocolate turtles are heaven. A range of sweets and drinks, a sweet tooth dream.

Hands down the best "Oregon style" popcorn ever! My bff and I went all soccer mom last weekend and donned our favorite matching track suits to make the trek from the burbs to the LC. I've been coming to this place since I was a kid and it's as good as I remember. Every. Single. Time.

The best popcorn place in Portland! The closest thing to Garrett Popcorn in Chicago. The taste is very similar. I am so elated I have found this place. Do the Chicago style, caramel and cheese mixed, you will be glad you did! I have searched for an excellent Chicago mix pocorn, hoping I would find something that comes remotely close to Garrett Popcorn and I was blown away! THIS IS IT! I LOVE THIS PLACE!

We're visiting Lloyd Center for the first time, so we walked through the entire mall (that's a whole different review) and ran into this store. They have cheese and other varieties, but I was after the caramel... errr... carmel popcorn. They had the batch at the window just like how this candy store displayed in when I was growing up in San Francisco's Fisherman's Wharf. There were two clerks behind the counter and we were the next customer. I ordered the largest carmel box they had, $9.25. The popcorn was still warm! Crispy and sweet with beautiful coloring. Service was great. They also have cheese and other flavors, also carmel with nuts. I would definitely return but would buy a smaller box because I really shouldn't eat that much!

Joe Brown's is the only reason I make the trip to Lloyd Center from the west side. They'll mix the various popcorn flavors (kettlecorn, caramel, 2 cheeses, buttered) any way you like. My favorite is the white and regular cheese corn together. I hope the upcoming remodel of Lloyd Center won't raise the rents so high that the smaller businesses (Joe Brown's) get chased out. You know how that goes sometimes.

Caramel corn, cheese corn, candy, soda. What else could you want? The quality of their sweets is very high, and their prices are reasonable. A good place to grab a snack while you're shopping. Or you can grab some popcorn while watching the ice skaters below.

The service was good. He was very polite and friendly with customers. I got the caramel corn. There were lots of bites that tasted burnt. I didn't think it was all that great. With the reviews I had been excited to try it.

Best popcorn ever!!!! I got the caramel corn and the regular pop corn... It was awesome. I generally do not like the caramel, but loved the one they sell it here. Always a bit of nostalgia getting caramel corn and cheese corn from Joe's. Part of the Portland landscape for many years. Grab a box or two for a relaxing evening or weekend. Be sure to share your thoughts with the new owners and store staff. As one of the final places now remaining, we want to keep this Portland experience going.

I always stop by when I fly into Portland. This is the best homemade caramel popcorn this side of the Mississippi. My favorite is still the plain caramel popcorn, no nuts, no mixing of other favors. It's always fresh and so buttery. This shop is one of the original stores when Lloyd Center Mall opened, and it's still there. That goes to show they know how to please their customers with an excellent product. This is a small business and they aim to continue to offer the best pop corn in all of Portland. Do support your local business.

I have gotten caramel corn here since i was a kid in the 70s. I feel badly for the one reviewer who must have gotten a rare bad batch. I've had burnt caramel corn before, but never from Joe Brown's. This place has always had the best caramel corn around. The fact that it's been around since Lloyd Center was an outdoor mall should speak volumes since so many places have come and gone. Try the cheese corn and caramel corn together, AKA "Chicago Style." It's a salty-sweet concoction bound to have you begging for more when you fingernails sadly scrape the bottom of your once-overflowing box of deliciousness. This is the best snack to smuggle into the Lloyd center movie theater. Everybody does it, so it must be okay!

Delicious fresh popcorn. Though shop is small, the flavor is huge. I love all the flavors but the caramel is my favorite. I drive all the way from Vancouver for their popcorn.

Good caramel corn, great price. The box is handed to you overflowing, they put it in a bag so you don't lose any caramelly goodness. The service is friendly. Loved it!

This is that best cheese popcorn I every had my son bought me some from seaside and now I found out that we had it at Lloyd center, I wish they had a place in Gresham Oregon..
