Starbucks’ Oleato Has Hit DFW - Eater Dallas

"First, the bad news: there are still no plans to open an H-E-B in Dallas. But some good news reported by D magazine is that the chain is bringing two Joe V’s to East and South Dallas." - Courtney E. Smith

Google
Everytime I come here I get more and more disappointed. They opened up about a year and 2 months ago. When they opened up their fruit and veggies were looking good and people kept telling me this is a great place to shop, but like most grocery stores that come to the south part of Dallas, they lure you with prime product when they first open up and then they quickly take their prime produce back to the prime real estate. Today, the poblano peppers and cantaloupes were disgusting, well past their freshness date, but at least the gnats were enjoying it, last week same thing with the tomatoes. Just trying to sell us spoiled goods.

Their produce is fresh and plentiful. My cashier was friendly and helpful. I have it 4 stars because there's no bakery and the bread and baked goods selections and are very small, and the pet food selection even smaller. Also, this store (and its parking lot) is very crowded with shoppers and is extremely busy. It's not a quick in and out. The prices are outstanding, so it's kind of worth it to just be ready to spend some time there.

I loved this store. The prices are so reasonable. The selection of products was awesome. I will definitely be back because their meat selection is one of the largest I've seen and the quality was very good. I enjoy shopping here

Google
Joe V's smart shop has a lot of affordable items. I love the many brands of fruit & vegetables. This store makes it affordable to feed a small or large family. I usually go through the week because it isn't as crowded. When they first opened, they also had a lot of great sales on meat. I hope they bring that back

Google
Clean store, doesn’t smell, the prices are amazingly low. They do stay busy and parking lot is always full but that’s because they have deals you just can’t get anywhere else. I love grocery shopping here. The only thing I don’t like is that they don’t sell briskets here but besides that this is my new favorite store ☺️ I always save money when I’m shopping here.

I grew up utilizing H-E-B stores and was so happy when Joe V opened but the level of customer service is disappointing. I recently had surgery and needed to go shop annd to my surprise I was told they do not have motorized shopping carts. So while I was standing outside waiting to leave, I spoke with Jeremy the store manager and he stated all their motorized shopping carts were stolen. His demeanor was so unpleasant, I don’t know if it was because he was outside sweeping the parking lot or just the disappointment of the running of the store, but to just say they were stolen and the lack of concern for those that rely on these carts is crazy. What is the plan to prevent this from happening, just not to replace them. Sorry to say this is not HEB quality and something needs to be done.

I had an awesome shopping trip at Joe V's Smart Shop! The fresh produce and products were top-notch—crisp veggies, juicy fruits, and everything looked like it was just picked that morning. Best part? The prices were way cheaper than any other stores around, making it a total steal for stocking up. Super impressed with the value and quality—I'll definitely be back for more!

Google
Love this store, it's part of HEB and I'm here for it. You walk in and you already see the savings, fruit and veggies at a great price and the quality is so good. Lots to choose from. Always check for specials and the price. They have the family boxes, I have yet to try them out but I will try to get one some day. This store is worth it.

Yelp
I still want a real H-E-B like we can afford H-E-B in Oak Cliff, Duncanville, Cedar Hill, Desoto. I promise we can. Give us a real H-E-B. I think I just miss the size of H-E-B and some items I want are missing. Now I love the fresh sushi being made in the store. The produce get there quick fast and in a hurry because it will be gone. Joe V's was the only place I could find green tomatoes outside of Tom Thumb. As of late they don't have any and it makes me sort of sad. You can also find some great deals as well. There isn't a large selection but there is enough of a selection. Now one thing I will say is every time I come in one of the machines in self check out is down. I don't know if I bring the bad luck or if it is the store. Now the last time I went in I believe the cashier's name was Tricia she was the excellent in her service and the line was all the way down the aisle. So, please come in with some patience because the wait can be long if you have a lot of items. No frills just deals. Now since I do like to do price comparisons Joe V is giving Aldi a run for their money in low cost. Which is great for the citizens of 75237.

Yelp
Joe V's Smart Shop at 4101 W Wheatland Rd, Dallas, TX 75237 Definitely a new shopping sensation has hit this neighborhood. This was 4th of July before 11:00 a.m. in the morning and it was jam-packed. I did see some good deals in here but this is really a regular grocery store that has some pretty good produce and some meat deals. It is definitely competition for the other neighborhood grocery stores. Is this a real H-E-B in the neighborhood, that is not the case. Do they have some H-E-B products, yes they do. This grocery store caters to the neighborhood in the community that it's serving. The only way you're going to know if you like this store or not you're going to have to park and come inside. Enjoy your shopping experience at Joe V's Smart Shop Note: please park in the parking lot that is for this grocery store only

Yelp
This grocery store is great!!!! The prices are phenomenal and the produce department is wonderful. But what was most shocking was the reasonable prices. The affordability of the groceries is much appreciated in today's economy. I saw 3 pound bags of apples for $0.97! The same bag would easily cost $4-$6 at other grocery stores. The meats were wonderfully priced too. I loved that there were also so many items made fresh daily in store; ex- tortillas, sushi, Asian dinners, guacamole, bread, bakery goods, etc. Another nice feature are the $20 Bundle Boxes. These boxes have five... yes FIVE dinners inside for $20!!!! Quite the steal. I can't wait to go back. My weekly food expenses will be lower thanks to this welcomed addition to the community.

Yelp
I was skeptical about Joe V's as I wanted an H‑E‑B however walking through the store today, I must say my feelings have changed. Joe v's is basically a smaller version of H‑E‑B - granted you don't get all the extra that H‑E‑B offers (BBQ, seafood boil, etc) however what you do get is fresh food at an affordable price. Their weekly deals is something worth looking at as right now we are all trying to stretch our dollars. If you have the H‑E‑B app and clip coupons you can use that here as well. The store was clean and everything was easy to get to. The employees were friendly and there to assist. Although I have to drive a little further it's worth it to me! Can't wait to go back on a less crowded day but if you haven't checked them out, I highly recommend that you stop in.

Yelp
0 complaints, they have just about everything you need for as food options, cashiers are friendly and the store is clean.

Yelp
Can't drive by an HEB with buying hot butter tortillas. I was unfamiliar with this format. Entering the store, the produce and prepared foods seemed similar top other HEB experiences. I think they call this an extreme value format. Instead of stocking things on a shelf, a case of product is placed on the shelf and opened with a box cutter. I don't know if these were normal prices or because it is recently opened, but, for example , strawberries were 99 cents a pound and an entire pallet was on the floor. Green bell peppers were 6 for 1$, stuff like that. Full assortment. Also appreciate the two very visible security cars at the entry to the parking lot. I really appreciate HEB protecting my car and preventing attacks on shoppers walking to their cars, not just protecting their store. Thank you. I looked at the full shopping carts on my way to the express lane, shoppers buying large cuts of meat for BBQ, produce as well as general grocery. I disagree with the other review that the selection is unhealth versus other stores...no way. An it seemed I passed other grocery stores within 2 miles. Joe V's was packed at 7PM on a Wednesday, and polite customers were returning their carts to the corrals. Model citizens.

Yelp
PROS: Fresh fruits, meats, vegetables, fruits, deli options and sushi available. CONS: Store is not organized well at all, the entrance literally has not gap between the produce section. So you're literally walking into a congested fruit section. They do not have tap & go pay (tap card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, etc, so I wasted a whole trip of shopping to not get any of my groceries. Only physical credit or debit cards. Even to pay with cash you have to enter the bills into the kiosk which also dispenses the change, you also have to bag your own groceries even at the cashier station -- what's the purpose of the cashier if everything else is literally self-service?

Yelp
I wouldn't go out of my way to go back the selection is a lot of unknown brands my experience is they're usually to salty for my taste no riding carts, the basket are huge and heavy the handle comes to my neck wow ,who was this made for Andre the giant and heaven forbid you put groceries inside, its like pushing a cement truck you guys really need to cater to the handicap as well as others we also like to shop, I want return no time soon very disappointed customer

Yelp
Why didn't HEB build there Super HEB in Oak Cliff instead of that low grade Joe V? I can't find a lot of items in Joe V that I bought at HEB. Another failure for the area.

Yelp
You have to try the True Texans BBQ restaurant in Joe V's. There is a drive thru. Much better than ANY other BBQ spot. Especially the brisket. The burnt ends are worth the drive.

Yelp
Super duper crowded most of the time. Be very patient when you visit the store. It was clean considering the amount of people there. The prices are ok but if you're not within a 10 to 15 mile radius you will this may not be for you

Yelp
nice store! Prices was good! Supply was very low had to go to another store to complete my shopping! Recommend to go early to beat the crowd!

Hgk K.

Yelp
great opening prices, sadly fresh veggies that need hydration were not getting it and all turning bad. Loved the .77 cents a pound chicken breasts with bones and skin. Perfect for grilling. So big, had to use quart size freezer bag for one breast. I have a hard time finding them elsewhere but love me some BBQ chicken breasts. Every manager from Dallas county must have been there! Not all the choices I can get at our local walmart(s). But great prices on what I was able to get! Hoping for an HEB in MidlothIan......very soon one in Mansfield was swamped. Couldn't even get to the parking lot! Need more! We have the shoppers for HEB!

Yelp
Too crowded, not enough room to maneuver, kept having to wait to get around people gawking around.

Yelp
Not happy with the Meat department. Got some pork ribs home and they reeked and as soon as the package was opened. I returned them next day and got carnita meat. Same thing. I have been buying groceries for decades and never had this issue. Let alone twice.

Yelp
Missing a lot of items you would see at HEB stores in so called "nicer" neighborhoods!

Lindsey D.

Yelp
I've lived in Oak Cliff since 2008 and was so looking forward to the possibility of having a one-stop grocery store that wasn't Walmart, a Dollar Store, or other lower quality chain with few healthy choices. I'll start by stating I'm an HEB evangelist - I grew up in South Texas and I actually cried tears of joy when they first started opening stores in DFW. When I heard about the "discount" version of HEB , "Joe V's" opening in our neighborhood, I was disappointed but willing to give it a try hoping it would be more like the smaller HEBs from 20 years ago. I actually left Joe V's REALLY angry. Y'all, outside of a couple decent deals on staple items we go specifically to HEB for - it was 90% dollar store level processed junk foods. Even the fresh prepackaged meals, bakery items, and meat sections were either junk food, lower quality versions of regular HEB items, or food that was no longer fresh you could tell they were just trying to get rid of. Yogurt? You'll only find versions with candy or cookie toppings. Truly the unhealthiest version of every food was as far as the eye could see. Even the in-store made sushi was 100% only rolls drenched in mayonnaise and sweet sauces and not the healthier rolls and nigiri you see in regular stores. I'm not mad that it was really busy, I expected that. I'm disappointed for our community & mad that HEB thinks we don't deserve an actual HEB, let alone deserve healthy choices and more fresh items. Sorry for the rant, but this area has been desperate for a great grocery store for decades and all we keep getting is more dollar stores and discount "grocery" stores packed full of processed crap that makes us unhealthier by the day. Shame on you, HEB.

Yelp
Good enjoy shopping in it. Parking was great. The product isle need a work on it is too close together. The store is kind of small but it works
