"Joe’s knows King Cakes — this family-owned business consistently offers high-quality cakes in a range of flavor. Besides flavors like cream cheese triple berry and fillings like Bavarian cream, Joe’s offers the only fried king cake we’ve seen, a fitting twist for the much-loved doughnut shop." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

My husband and I visited the O’Reillys and asked them a good place to eat in town and they sent us to Joe’s! We are from Texas and was driving back to Gonzales from taking an airboat tour and we were hungry!! Food was amazing. I had the shrimp and grits, my husband got the JoJo special and we shared the Joe’s swamp fries and we at every bike! The swamp fries we ordered the sauce on the side and the fish had such a good breading on it, and the food was fresh right out of the kitchen!! The sauce was AMAZING they sell it by the package to take it with you!! I plan to go back because we did not try any of the beignets or pastries, they all looked amazing though and will be trying them SOON! It will be worth the drive and the husband and wife that works there at the Metairie location where as sweet as can be! Very helpful, very friendly and made us feel welcomed and right at home! Service was excellent, we were well taken care of! Thank you again for the wonderful meal and experience!

When I realized how far a drive it was going to be from my hotel at the airport I didn’t know if it was gonna be worth it as I was tired after a long day of travel and work, but I always try local spots. The service was fantastic, super friendly and great conversation. I was the only one in the dine in, although several people came and bought donuts while I was there. I had red beans and rice along with fish, which was delicious! Had beignets for dessert, which were also delicious. Would definitely go back!

Google
Hownthey dint have a perfect five-star rating is beyond me! My shirts and grits would make you slap your mama because they're were so good. Perfectly creamy grits piled high with shrimp greeted me, and I appreciated every bite. I didn't have any donuts, but they must be good considering the constant line of people coming in to buy some. Parking is a little tricky but worth it!

Google
Great place to get single slice or whole King Cakes. Several varieties available in three sizes. Donuts as big as your head made straight from the heart. Careful getting in and out of traffic. Couple video machines available. Highly recommend! Stopped back for a late night dinner and it was spectacular!! Got a King Cake for the ride home!!

pondra mcallister

Google
They have a lunch and dinner menu as well!! Employees are great and the food. I can't wait to come back through.

When I ate here it was my favorite place that I ate at the entire time visiting New Orleans.the food was absolutely amazing I ate everything off of my plates. Service was great.

Google
We went for National Waffle Day to enjoy the waffles. The staff was most welcoming and knowledgeable. The facility is a cross between an old-style diner and a donut shop. They serve breakfast, lunch, and dinner with a good selection of options. The place was busy with dine-ins and take-outs. Adequate parking. The service was quick. We ordered waffles and they were out quickly. I placed butter and honey on mine. My wife had butter and syrup. Although the waffles didn't stay hot, we still enjoyed our time with one another. I gave Joe's a 3-Star rating...leaving room for an increased rating when we return. Yes, we'll give them another opportunity to woo us over with their food. Enjoy.

Google
Amazing doughnuts at a very reasonable family price . Has the best breakfast freshly made from a variety of options to choose from . And ladies and gentlemen..they have king cake so beat the crowd before the crowd beats you .

Randy S.

Yelp
Had the waffle and large tea. Tea is smokin hot and waffle is good, but could be a smidge crispier for my taste. Would have had the giant apple fritter, but afraid it would leave me in a coma. Maybe on my day off next time. Service is outstanding, the wait staff is sweet and kind. The place is small, but clean, which works for me.

Tashonda J.

Yelp
Breakfast was good just needed a little more seasoning ! It was down the street from my friends house so I figured why not! Great portions, everyone was nice, coffee was delicious... also the hot chocolate. They ran outta cup holders but that's not a big deal

Brooks W.

Yelp
Donuts were good. But they were clearly understaffed trying to wait on people doing full service while also taking donut orders at the counter.

Terry H.

Yelp
I rolled into this place, mostly just to stop and get my bearings since I just hit town, and I've got to say they have the most awesome freaking donuts, I had the Applefritter and it was the best one I've had in a long, long time. And the wait staff are super friendly too!! Thanks for being my go to while I stayed in your nice little neighborhood.

Greg J.

Yelp
I ordered a donut king cake on Monday morning. I had a chat with the lady on the phone. I told her I bought my first king cake at Dorignac's and everyone loved it so I told her I was ordering another one for my husband's birthday. I picked it up yesterday morning put a candle in it last night. Cut it and it was a traditional king cake, not the fried donut King cake. I was so upset. I called and spoke to a guy who told me basically there was nothing he could do. At least he could have offered some donuts or put me down for the right king cake next year. Really really upset. Gave the whole thing to my neighbors. Also, the guy on the phone said no returns on the box but the only thing on my box was cream cheese. I would love to do business with them in the future because their donuts look delicious but I can't see doing it. BTW the king cake cost $36 with a tip.

Yelp
8.14.22 @0830 - Tried a glazed donut and a chocolate sprinkle donut.  The cafe was packed, but the customer service was fast and good.  The cashier went out of her way to make a fresh sprinkle donut because they had none left.  The donuts were hot and perfect.  Great donut shop!  $3.10 total for two amazing donuts.

Beryl D.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Good authentic flavor and awesome customer service. I was craving glazed beignets so my hubby and I stopped by. He got powdered beignets, I got glazed and then he had an omelet. We were well pleased and our belly's were satisfied. I highly recommend!

Yelp
All Kudos to Miss Carrie! SHE and her awesome customer service actually surpassed the disappointment of the cook's onion rings that day. SHE was patient, attentive and very friendly. Very knowledgeable of the menu items and had only started there about 2 months prior! A customer and her young daughter came in asking about eggs in the donuts due to allergies. Something to take VERY SERIOUSLY! Carrie was VERY patient VERY professional and offered them a real-time inquiry and answers on the SPOT. The Roast beef PB was good, but just okay, the onion rings-disgusting (both made by the cook in the back & NOT made or dropped by Carrie) were cold, old & GREASY AF. I didn't complain - but just didn't eat them. I was in a hurry to catch a flight. Again, Carrie came to the rescue by dropping the glazed beignet I had ordered, HERSELF to speed my order along & they were absolutely EVERYTHING. Owners??? Management??? She seriously deserves a meaningful RAISE! Please Keep her. If she's not there, my next time in town (?) I don't even want to stop by. Seriously. Carrie saved my experience! Thank you, Carrie. God bless your sweet soul

Yelp
Great experience!! The staff is super friendly, and makes amazing recommendations. Randy is the best!! My eating companions were super happy about their Monster burger and Waffle Burger, and I loved my cheesesteak loaded hash browns. The price is right and the food is great - it's a little small so if you have a party bigger than 2 your only choice is the bar. The staff was cleaning behind us and under us and It was a little disconcerting to hear ewws and gags while they were cleaning the bathroom but it was entertaining! Overall this is a super cute and friendly local diner and is perfect for quick breakfast or hungover brunch.

Jerry G.

Yelp
After being excited about my first visit here I was quickly disappointed we placed our order after waiting for 45 minutes our food still had not arrived I asked the waitress to check on our order well she never gave the cook our ticket.I offered to pay for the drinks and we left still hungry. There was others customers that waited over a hour for their food.I would never return to this establishment!!!!

Fox E.

Yelp
If the owner's name is king, then he must be Joe King. Tiny little coffee shop punching above its weight that is known mainly for the coffee and donuts, but they also serve gumbo and chicken fried steak and other delights. So they're doing great, and this kind of local place is a heartbeat of the community of Metairie and of what makes New Orleans great.

Jessica M.

Yelp
First of all WOW. The french donut was the best donut i've ever had. They are made to order, and she told me she remade them for me so they would be perfect. They were. My boyfriend had a bacon egg and cheese sandwich and we both loved it. Definitely coming back here during my stay in LA.

Jovan W.

Yelp
PREFECT! Much better than the last location I visited 2wks go in terrytown. The service was amazing. I was greeted with a big smile. I pass this location every morning on my way to work... never stopped because it always looked too busy. I was getting a little nervous about stopping today, when I saw all the cars parked out front. However, I did order my food online so that save me some time as well. I was in and out in about 5 minutes. My order ready and waiting for me when I arrived. YET STILL HOT! The surf and turf omelette is something new for me... I eaten them separately but never together. So when I saw this on their menu I said it was a must I try this omelette. It was AMAZING, FULL OF MEAT/SEAFOOD and tones of flavor. You can order with your choice of cheese, so I opted for cheddar. The biscuit was so light, so fluffy, and airy. Also had enough time to peep into the donut case and saw some delicious fresh options. Those cinnamon rolls really caught my eyes. You can tell they were just baked. Nothing day old in those cases. I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE. Don't let the lots cars outside fool you. Stop in, it's worth it!!!

Jono B.

Yelp
Cook/Server who gave me my glazed beignets was really nice. The glazed beignets were great too...made fresh to order. I suggest eating them right away for best taste. The glazed donuts are good too, I didn't get to eat those fresh so I probably robbed myself of its maximum quality. Nice local donut spot.

Christopher W.

Yelp
Stopped into Joe's for a king cake while out in Metry and I thought it was just ok. It wasn't as moist as I would like even with cream cheese filling. The cream cheese itself was a little loose and heavy. Its a good king cake but not one I would get again.

Paula P.

Yelp
I always try the basics first. Oh my goodness. Glazed donut melts in your mouth but I was on a mission to try a glazed beignet. It did not disappoint!!! Salivating thinking about it. Lol

Avram L.

Yelp
Miss getting beignets. Be happy. Joe's Cafe makes them to order. Hot fresh delicious beignets. No wait line...no tourists..:) This cafe made our ending just as sweet. Thanks for reading. Avram The Avg. Joe

Darriane J.

Yelp
Love their donuts! Not a big fan of their hot breakfast. The hot breakfast was not badly priced for the amount of food you get! I felt like the breakfast was average taste wise & I could've gotten a better breakfast plate at one of the corner stores in Nola for less. The customer service was great! The staff was very nice. The donuts are what keeps me coming back!

Hime C.

Yelp
Just ordered some Togo. Took about an hour wait. Got back to the house and and found my chicken jojo PASTA had no pasta. Just chicken and sauce. As well as my mash potatoes came with no gravy. No ranch for my fried mushrooms. And when I called to see what happen the waitress told me that she didn't know what to do and to call back tomorrow. Poorly ran establishment with no mangers and quality assurance.

Joseph R.

Yelp
This place is the definition of gross. Cooks smoking weed in the back at night. Was told by a waiter his/her tips were being taken by others because they're "learning" Owner doesn't care about who he hires as long as they have hands and feet. The food is all frozen even tho they say it's made fresh to eat all of it is pre cooked and warmed up except for the burgers and some other things. The salad sits in a bag and rots until someone decides they want to order it. Found hair in my donuts multiple times because they DO NOT wear hair nets. Johnny needs to fire everyone there and hire on a new crew they're getting too comfortable. Never visit this place I know they're open 24 hours but iHop will even be better

Yelp
--approximately 6:15 Tuesday, 12/114/21 I called because I couldn't find where on the website to order the mini burgers. I was told I had to order online. Said I couldn't, so the girl (honey, sweetie, baby, were her favorite words) said to hold on a minute, and she would take my order. I drove from Cleary and Airline on hold, and hung up when I got to the drive up window. Placed my order, paid, and gave a tip. I waited 35 minutes, and never got food. So I rolled over the bell, and the same girl came out to take my order. I told her I was still waiting for my order. She went to the other side of the restaurant and came back a few minutes later with my food. I asked if was still hot. She said, yeah, we had to wait for the chili. She also gave me 6 glazed donuts--complimentary. (Thanks!) I drove off and realized I did not get my drinks. I got home 6 minutes later, and the burgers and fries and even the chili were all cold. Heated up the chili--is that barbecue sauce I taste in the chili!?!? - YUCK! Really? So so disappointed for $24 worth of cold food. Yelp makes me give one star, so that's what I gave, even though I didn't want to!

Steve I.

Yelp
Friendly staff and always open! If you didn't know breakfast is my favorite meal of the day (not sure why since my favorite foods are BBQ, steaks, and gumbo). I enjoy the consistency of breakfast and Joe's is pretty reliable in the breakfast department. They have good donuts but unfortunately not a big variety of donuts. They also serve hot food till 9pm every day. Joe's is a 24/7 spot that has its regulars. I enjoy going to little cafes like Joe's that has good food and a great clientele.

Mandy E.

Yelp
Ordered 2 dozen donuts for my son's class. I called the next morning when I was on my way and they said they hadn't made them but will start at that time. No biggie, waited an hour and then headed there to find out that they never made them and couldn't make them. Not a reliable business. I would not recommend placing special orders here. My son's class had no snack for the day due to in inability of the staff communication.

Robert D.

Yelp
For the past year, I've had a routine of picking up 6-8 biscuit sandwiches for customers on my way into work. I would call my order in when getting on the Causeway on the North Shore and it would be ready once I passed by. On my last experience, I had issues with reaching them on the phone. and when they did answer I was rudely told they don't do phone orders. I asked is that a new policy, the answer was no. Guess they don't want the business anymore. Long story short, I purchased the breakfasts from another restaurant and will do that for now on.

Huong H.

Yelp
If I can give 0 starts I would! THE WORST FUCKING SERVICE EVER! There's no point doing a phone call order and come and still have to wait! Waiting over 32mins for a phone order when I arrived! And coffee taste like water because they didn't put in new coffee grinds, over price for food. Horrible service. And the girl just rude! She said I didn't make the order till 11:15am but I called at 11:03am! She's the one who didn't put in my order right away!

Katherine S.

Yelp
I got a pecan praline king cake from Joe's to share with my coworkers. I wish I had taken a picture, but it was devoured before I got the chance! So good!

Christina P.

Yelp
Stopped in and needed a quick fix on breakfast for the staff, grabbed someone donuts and they were absolutely heavenly! There's all sorts of variety here and they sell sandwiches as well. Great place to grab something f and go. People are great and friendly!

Keith T.

Yelp
What's going on? Donuts have not been to good lately. I took a couple of pictures I hope it explains my concerns.

Sean K.

Yelp
This place is the worst!! They are never open even when the website and sign on the door say so, they will take an online order when they are closed but meant to be open charge ur card and never make ur food or refund u, the staff are very rude and prejudice as well, and they will never answer the phone, they just refuse too, completely awful, I've seen much better run establishments in third world countries

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
We stopped in to get donuts in the evening and they were excellent. They had a fluffy consistency and there was a great variety to chose from. With a location just feet off a major highway, it's a great fast stop for breakfast or an indulgent snack

Tim E.

Yelp
Giving away donuts to some customers. I sat there 10 minutes waiting to even be acknowledged and was then told no service. Can't get into the register due to a power outage. So I leave along with other customers awaiting service and see someone walk in and get doughnuts. Last time I ever come here. You just lost a regular customer. And I mean a two to three night a week customer.

Alissyn H.

Yelp
The best fresh donuts...period. I love this little place. The employees are always really nice and attentive. The coffee is always hot and the donuts are always delicious! The donuts are light and always interesting. The food is so so and the place is divey but my husband and I just adore sitting at the wrap around donut bar, sipping our coffee and conversing with the staff and other friendly patrons. I have eaten donuts all over America and all over our fair Greater New Orleans area... These are consistently out of this world, perfect donuts! Yummmmmmay!

Jennifer M.

Yelp
The cajun seafood eggrolls are the bomb. They are so addictive...... I love their glaze donuts

Ryan F.

Yelp
Eggs Benedict I waited 20 minutes for, and ordered 20 minutes before I got there. This garbage is not worthy of being called prison food. They said I have to bring it back if I want a refund. I will be glad to after I finish my 12 hour shift. My call in order prior to this one the waitress forgot to put my order in. So much for breakfast before work!

Nicole T.

Yelp
The only downside to this place is, it's too small. But, if it were larger, it would lose its charm. Food - Everything was fresh, and tasted amazing. Pastries/doughnuts/King Cake - wow ! Service? Great!! Locals frequent the place, so you know it's good.

Rebekah H.

Yelp
Order the eggs Benedict.. never seen anything like this . Just terrible.. it was a salty, yellow, gravy like but thick .... terrible.. Joes catfish plate was okay...

Jennifer K.

Yelp
I give my clients a free gift every month and this month was a dozen donuts at Joe's (free for the clients but Joe's gets the full $$ for the dozen donuts). I had 2 separate people complain about the terrible service when trying to retrieve. One of my clients couldn't even get the free donuts because the cashier refused. My boyfriend and I went to check it out and also get the donuts and ordered food. The service was horrible. The cashier was extremely rude as if we were bothering her and the omelet that we ordered took forever. It was the most awkward, longest 20 min ever waiting to get the food and get the heck out of there... Donuts were good though :/

Brianna G.

Yelp
Should've seen the red flags from the previous bad reviews and the overall rating. I was referred to this place and will most likely NOT be returning. HORRIBLE customer service. I ordered an online order before class, and the lady at drive thru is basically making me PROVE that I had an order. I told her my order then she stated "No, I need to see it". I did ask why and was told only the cooks receive the order. Well, then it's not your business. I'm sure the orders are organized by name or number. Then she kept going back and forth with me. Once again, do not work in customer service if you lack communication skills. She was too comfortable speaking to a customer in this manner, which shows it is normal. If workers behave like this, I can only imagine what the owner is like. Definitely a poor reflection of this establishment. And my order STILL isn't READY. Food was great, but I will not support bad customer service.

Casey R.

Yelp
Truly a mediocre first experience. Been dying to try this place out because I live right at the apartment complex across the road. Would love a regular breakfast spot within walking distance. We stopped in and the place was pretty packed. The two ladies working were very warm and welcoming. They were busy but still hospitable. Probably the only reason I'll return. Coffee was just generic. Nothing special. Could probably get better coffee at a gas station. No iced coffee either Just served in bottles. Ordered the breakfast plate with scrambled eggs hash browns and sausage. First off everything is served to go even if you dine in. A little annoying trying to eat with plastic utensils. The eggs or should I say egg was okay. Just very small potion. Bread soggy from being served in a Togo box. Not buttered. One measly little frozen sausage patty. The whole meal was basically uncooked hash browns. I was hungry so I picked at it. I'll return to give it a second chance but maybe next time steer clear from breakfast. Kind of a shame considering how Much business id give this place if the first experience went smoother. I love breakfast food and I really had high hopes for this spot.

Dubya P.

Yelp
A great basic breakfast joint. It is exactly what you would expect. Its mit Antoine's, but it's not trying to be. Good coffee, good bacon and eggs.

Eden A.

Yelp
I want to preface this by saying the donuts were really excellent, super fluffy with a crisp layer of glaze even when I visited at midnight. However, I had a really uncomfortable experience that will probably keep me from coming back for a while. I've been here often to use the WiFi since I've moved to town. I ALWAYS tip the counter lady working at the time in cash. So at 12 AM Sunday morning, I pay for my 2 donuts and milk with a card. I go back to my purse to pull out a cash tip, but I got a lil bit distracted by my laptop. 2 minutes later, the lady working the counter (blonde with a ponytail and raspy voice) goes "WOW, these guys just tipped me $7! Makes up for the who don't tip" and she looks over at me. Ok ma'am. You pulled a milk out the fridge and two donuts off the shelf and I heard you say you get an hourly wage but ok. She continued to make loud comments to other customers who would walk in like "these young kids don't think they need to tip anymore!" Made me super uncomfortable. Maybe I'll go to other Joes' in the future, but probably not this one.

Jerry L.

Yelp
I had a very nice breakfast here, the Monster omelet. It's huge, it will be lunch also. Andrea was my server and she was awesome, very friendly and fast. I will be back.

Paul E.

Yelp
I have eaten here plenty times in the past and every time is a new experience. One reoccurring theme however is the inconsistency of staff knowledge on the menu, how to operate the pos, how much time passes from sitting to ordering, delivery of the order, and the bill; which used to come first but now comes last. I won't say the food wasn't good, because it's always hit or miss depending on the cook. Be very specific on what you order as to what you're looking to pay. Orders are not the same from the pos to the menu pricing it seems and additions are contradictory depending on what you're adding to; via sandwich, burger, omelette etc. I watched 8 people walk out without ordering in my hour wait and only two orders come out before mine with four people dining in including myself and another two having coffee. Any educated guest would leave after sitting for ten minutes without being asked if they'd like a menu or what they're having to drink. Furthermore, anyone with a cash budget should have an idea on their total after taxes for those I say, ask for your total before the food is delivered because there is a good chance who ever is working will mess up your order in the pos and overcharge you mistakenly. Much love to Joe's but it's more like a circus without a ring leader.

Ronald F.

Yelp
Good donuts and coffee. Very crowded due to too may small tables by the windows. Took my grandson to bathroom and floor was filthy. Looks like it had not been cleaned in quite a while. My brother managed large restaurants his whole life. One thing he beat into my brain. Always check the bathroom before you eat at place. Bottomline, if the bathroom is filthy guaranteed the back of house, ie, kitchen will also be filthy. Will not be eating there, only drinking coffee there.

Calvin M.

Yelp
Come here for the donuts. Go elsewhere for food. This is the second time I've eaten here. Never had a salty and greasy omelette before. Until now. The cook said its from the ham. Ugh.... I tried to eat it, but can't.

Nichole J.

Yelp
These burgers have really gone downhill. I'm never eating here again. It's unfortunate because the Hawaiian burger used to be my favorite. I don't know who decided to cut corners on food cost and start getting disgusting frozen patties instead of using fresh ground chuck but I'm not wasting my money here again. I didn't even finish my burger it was so gross. The worst is I was really looking forward to eating it.

Ashley R.

Yelp
Ordered to go with Waite here the food was ice cold didn't get mushrooms onions or my garlic bread with my hamburger steak didn't get a jalapeno cheddar bun on the burger and didn't receive our cinnamon cluster we ordered so not eating there again

Dalena T.

Yelp
I stood there for a good few minutes before they acknowledged me - and they saw me. Just decided to walk away. Sat down the people who came in after me, bs'ed around for a bit, and finally asked what I wanted or if my order was to-go. I only wanted some donuts and kolaches to get back to studying. Charged me. Waited about 10 mins for the kolaches and decided they were out. Uncharged me and didn't ring me up for the donuts. I don't care for the free donuts. I didn't get an apology either. It was an uncomfortable environment - very uncomfortable. I do not recommend this place to anyone. Just observe. You'll notice who they're nicer to.

Kimberly V.

Yelp
Had their country fried steak and eggs with a biscuit. The food was delicious and their doughnuts were AMAZING!! Will definitely be back!

Vanessa L.

Yelp
Really disappointed. I live across the street. On weekends we order in. They really can't get an order right to save their lives. The leave you on hold for ten minutes (literally, not an exaggeration), you have to hang up and keep trying, then they mess the order up every.single.time and beyond that they lie. I ordered the hungry man and got two tiny pancakes, a spoonful of hash, and maybe one egg. For $12. Outrageous. Inept. Incompetent. And half the food is inedible from being too salty. Wtf. You don't have a super difficult job with an outrageous amount of options. How hard is it to not screw up a simple order and actually give the customer what they pay for? Also. 10 oz is not a pint. Charging $2.10 for ten ounces if apple juice is utter bulkshit.
