Maybe it was the day after Christmas or maybe no one knew they were open, but there was only a single person eating inside when we picked up our togo order. The girl that had taken our order was nice on the phone, and our order was ready, when we got there early to pick up.
Or maybe I'm just trying to find an excuse for the lack of customers dining inside and just how bad our food turned out to be when we got it home (less then 5min away).
But it was bad, I've never thrown out that much food.
To say it did not meet our expectations, would be understating what we took home.
We expected it to be fresh, really good Italian, enough for the next day.....like we've had before from there months, ago.
It wasn't fresh. It wasn't good. But there was a lot of it...but not edible.
What we ordered-
Spaghetti with Italian Sausage- The pasta was like mush, so overcooked. The sauce tasted like it came from a can of chef boyardee. The sausage link had been sliced into rings and spread to cover the top....(I should have taken a picture before my husband tried to eat it). One side of each ring was black from either being put under the broiler to heat or in a skillet. And we paid extra for a little ceasar salad that was just pale lettuce, garnished w/a couple of tiny slices of cheese and a side dressing that did not taste at all like ceasar dressing.
How was that even allowed to leave the kitchen?
The second entree was Shrimp Ala Palmero (Shrimp Scampi)- There were 6 shrimp on top....they were ok....not great, but ok. The angel hair pasta was mushy, soft some stuck together.....way overcooked. I'm guessing they're precooking then putting it back in the water to reheat, don't know....but it's awful. who wants shrimp scampi w/the texture of babyfood? And the sauce, I've never had scampi where you could actually see a layer of oil on top of the sauce.
And the house salad....I did take a picture of that, and yes, the lettuce was that white....and yes, that's a slice off the bottom of a tomato and a thin slice of onion. I've gotten better salads from fast food burger places.
And I ordered a small Greek Salad---and it seems that they continued what I think is recycling their "precooked"/"pre- prepped" items, had the same finely chopped pail lettuce, a ton of sliced red onions and bell peppers, and chunks of chopped, peeled soft (not fresh) cucumbers. It certainly wasn't worth $8.99 after throwing away the extra bell peppers & red onions that drowned out the little bit of lettuce, three kalamati olives, three chunks of feta cheese, and yes...another small slice of tomato. The dressing was good.
The eight bread rolls were very good, warm and obviously fresh. Those, I would recommend.
I'm not sure why any of this was made like this, or left the kitchen, or sold.......would they serve this to someone eating inside? Do they not want take out customers? Do they discourage repeat business? I do not know.
I do know that someone doesn't care what leaves the kitchen.
I do know that I regret spending $44.89 trying to treat my husband to an Italian Dinner. A dinner that was akin to leftovers from when?? that had been reheated more then once. I'm disabled, we're in our 70's, and I could have made this at home for a lot less, and so much better.
