"Joe's Noodle House has long been a standard bearer for Sichuan cuisine in the area. Spicy dishes like dumplings with red hot sauce, mapo tofu, and homemade bacon with leeks have brought diners in for well over a decade. Want it more incendiary? Just ask. Google
Good Chinese food in Rockville. We ordered Yu Shiang Eggplant, Vegetable Chow Fun, and Yu Shiang two kinds (liver and kidney). They were all tasty and delicious. The menu was reasonably priced for a sit-down Chinese restaurant Friendly staff members and plenty of parking

It was our first time ordering food from here, and we took it to go. The soups were excellent. Our three main dishes were a big disappointment. There was barely any meat in my drunken noodle beef dish. The noodles were stuck oily and soggy at the same time. It was very bland. I could’ve been eating a blanket. The pineapple fried rice with chicken did have a decent amount of chicken and pineapple. The rice had a light sweet flavor to it, but overall it was bland. Kung Pao Chicken had a lot of heat to it, but no flavor. I had high hopes for a great meal due to the number of reviews and high ratings. I will say the food was ready when we went to pick it up and check out was quick.

If you are gluten free or have Celiac then you need to eat here. I just had a wonderful experience eating real Chinese food that is GLUTEN FREE. The menu may not be marked gluten free but the kitchen is highly accommodating and understands issues with cross contamination. They are willing to make modifications like using gf soy sauce, cleaning pots and pans, and using new oil to fry food. Highly recommend a visit.

Went in yesterday to order dinner to go. The staff was great. I got the chicken and eggplant in the hot pot and this is the best Chinese food I've had in a very long time. Very delicious!

Google
I ordered noodles for my son and me for dinner tonight. Took them home. The pork Pad Thai had almost no pork. The Drunken Noodles with beef had microscopic 0.25 cm bits of meat and the sauce was never incorporated into the noodles. A brick of unsauced noodles is my dinner. Disgusting.

Google
So much salt. I don't know if we got a cook who was just heavy handed with the salt but couldn't even finish our meal. You have to order your food at the counter and it comes out quick...a little too quick. We ordered the beef noodle soup and mooshu pork and it was out in less than 5 minutes. That's not necessarily a bad thing but it was just so oversalted that it just made us question how much of it was precooked and reseasoned.

Google
Mediocre Chinese food. Horrible service! They make you pay before getting your food and don’t care afterwards if you enjoy it or not. I accidentally ordered a dish that was TOO spicy for consumption and asked if we could either get our money back or exchange it for a different dish. The answer received was “no” and they did not bother with any further actions to satisfy our needs. Left feeling robbed of our hard earned money, a tasty meal, and an enjoyable dining experience. There are many other Chinese restaurants in Rockville. Stay away from this establishment!

Google
The food and service is on point. We travel an 1 1/2 hours to eat here. Dumplings, string beans and any dish with eggplant, wow!

Yelp
Huge menu. Delicious food. Friendly service. My top picks: Greens with garlic, vegetable dumplings, beef with hot peppers, SPICY Szechuan Beef over Vegetables soup, Beef Noodle soup, Salty Crispy Seafood combo, Eggplant with Basil. Other interesting dishes include Rabbit, Bruised Intestine, Tibetan Lamb, Mongolian Beef with Cumin, Singapore Noodles with curry. If you're looking for " Americanized Chinese food" like Kung Pao Chicken, etc, the have that too, but I recommend sticking with actual Chinese food, which is hard to find around here. Give it a try. Best Chinese food in DMV.

Yelp
Vegan reviewer here! I went to Joe's Noodle House for the first time on Easter Sunday for dinner seeing they had ample vegetarian options. I called ahead to ask about if they could make them vegan and the woman on the phone said yes, they could make options vegan free of meat, eggs and milk and they were closing early due to the holiday. I came in and the place was pretty empty. I was greeted and seated immediately. I asked about the vegetarian menu and she said they combined it with the normal menu and to look for items that contained the letter V next to it. As I was browsing I noticed several items that could be vegan but didn't have a V next to it. When it came time to ordering I asked about some of those options and my server said yes, those could be made vegan. I went with shredded potatoes, vegetable lo mein with tofu and mixed vegetables with tofu. The food came out pretty quick and the portions were huge and could easily serve 2-3 people. The lo mein was great! It was exactly what I wanted flavor wise. The shredded potato had some slices of green bell pepper was also delicious and tasted very similar to other Chinese restaurants I frequent. Usually the shredded potato has slices of jalapeño but I was not mad at their rendition. The mixed vegetables was my least favorite dish because the brown sauce the veggies were cooked in didn't have as much flavor as I'd hoped and reminded me of a watery gravy. It was the healthier option of the bunch which was alright but not the flavor I was hoping for. It was still good though. They use braised tofu in their dishes which adds a nice texture to the dish. A bowl of rice was also included with my meal. I ate until I was full but made no dent in the three plates and asked for boxes. They packed them up for me which I appreciated and my total was $47 before tip. I was in and out quickly and love that I'll have left overs for at least 2-3 meals. The food is authentic and I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
3 stars, as 2.5 isn't allowed, for a cheap lunch menu and decent Taiwanese noodles. Otherwise very bad Dan Dan noodles w almost no flavor. I got them without pork so maybe it would be different with it? But any Dan Dan noodle I've had had texture and sauce. This had neither. Kung pao tofu was fried well but sauce was super sweet. Si u noodles weren't good at all. Bad, spongy texture w no flavor. Need to try some other items to make a real judgement so don't want to take too many stars as maybe lunch specials aren't representative.

Yelp
We come here every year when in town for a conference. We always have a wonderful time and the food is always the best. I hate so many of the modern slick restaurants which have more of an investment-scheme vibe than a place for human beings to eat. Joe's Noodle House has the kind of family restaurant feeling where I can actually enjoy my meal.

Yelp
My husband and I have tried soooo many Chinese restaurants in and around DC looking for an incredible, basic Chinese place (to fill our hole of Mulan Asian Bistro in Memphis, TN)! NOBODY MAKES BETTER FRIED RICE THAN EDDIE PAO!!!! We have tried everything from Taipei Tokyo & Far East Restaurant to Lao Sze Chuan & Peter Chang/Q by Peter Chang, but still haven't found that exact one. Joe's Noodle House has fit the bill for great Chinese dishes (Mongolian Beef (or Chicken) w/Cumin, Ma-Po Tofu (without pork), Celery and Pressed Bean Curd, and the Three Pepper Chicken. The Chili sauce is great, but I especially LOVE that you can ask for white meat/chicken breast for $1 more! The fried rice was the closest but needed more veg and egg. We also preferred the Egg Drop Soup from Far East (w/extra fried wontons... small comes with soup, but larger bag for $1). Jin our server was SUPER NICE and helpful in recommending dishes and alterations to regular menu items! It's not fancy, but excellent food; I see why they have gotten so many good reviews and awards!

Yelp
Wanted to try for a while and finally did. Worth going for sure for authentic Sichuan style cuisine. Decent prices and portions, super fresh and very tasty. The menu is large and there are wonderful dishes to be had. The MaPo Tofu and the beef and pepper dishes were better than most others in the area. Lo Mein was a bit on the ginger side but still good. Other dishes all good. Will be back and highly recommend if you're in the mood for the real deal food.

Jessica L.

Yelp
We hadn't been here In literally a decade+. The food was still good and very affordable. I'd go back for sure and hopefully in less than a decade! Get the noodles of course!!

Neta H.

Yelp
The food was not done n the service was not very good 1st and last time I be going there

Beth K.

Yelp
Average food and average service! Lots of parking. It's convenient to the Hilton Hotel. It was decently clean but it was a bit dark inside. The food was average. The egg drop soup was good and hot.

Sam S.

Yelp
This rare gem offers Chinese food for the Asian community, not the American Chinese food we grew up eating. That means dishes you won't find in most restaurants. My favorite is the pickled vegetables seasoned with chili oil. Also, the pickled cucumbers are sweet and tangy. We're vegetarian and there's lots of delicious options for us, but meat eaters will find very special dishes here, too. This is still one of the best restaurants in Rockville after decades in business.

Yelp
Recently ventured back to Joe's Noodle House per having not been for a couple years. After reading the extensive menu, we started with the scallion pancake and steamed pork buns. A generously sized scallion pancake compared to other establishments. The steamed pork buns were just okay. Main dishes, Kung Pao Chicken, Ma Po Tofu and Pork with rice cakes and an order of Pineapple rice. Kung Pao Chicken good sized portion, was too sweet and the sauce was very syrupy. The Ma Po Tofu was a good size portion with nice heat. Pork with rice cakes, also a good portion but salty. Finally, the pineapple rice was bright yellow, sticky and overwhelmingly sweet. A few of use experienced and picked out sugar granular. Hospitality was good, ambiance not exciting and prices were reasonable if you're looking for a quick meal.

Gwen S.

Yelp
The menu is quite extensive but the dishes we tried were all quite good. The hot and sour soup is tasty and nicely seasoned. The Shrimp dumplings are flavorful as are the green beans and the steamed flounder. The tables are closely spaced and the decor will not win any awards but good food reasonably priced is the name of the game here.

Yelp
Stopped by here yesterday to take out as I was in the area. I called and placed my order from across the street and I was told my order would be ready in 30-40 minutes. I didn't want to wait that long but it was the first time in a decade to eat their food so I accepted the long wait. When I got to the restaurant 30 minutes later, I found out that it was take out only and no dining in. And take out orders must be placed by phone. I ended up waiting for more than 40 minutes total. It was not a pleasant experience at all with customers all waiting outside the entrance for a long time. The restaurant was receiving many calls and could not handle quickly enough. Maybe because it was the Lunar New Year Eve. For the food, Mapo Tofu with Pork was pretty good, but the Wonton w/ Red Hot Sauce 紅油抄手was terrible. I had never had such bad one. The dumplings were like tiny meatballs and the sauce was just spicy and salty.

Yelp
The must get dish here is the Mongolian Beef with cumin. The surprise runner up was the Spicy and Tasty Fried Tofu with Pork Solid szechuan food. From a mala perspective, they know how to make it la, though fail on the ma. I was disappointed that nothing I tried numbed my mouth. There was no indoor dining, only takeout and you can only call ahead. Had I known that, I would have called before the 40 minute drive, oh well. As usual, I ordered everything I possibly thought would be super good and remind me of what I could get in NYC. I ended up getting the following: -Cold Pasta with Sesame Sauce ($6.95) -Mapo Tofu ($9.95) -Triple Pepper Chicken, Crispy Fried ($12.95) -Triple Pepper Chicken, Dry Sauteed ($12.95) -Spicy and Tasty Fried Tofu w/ Pork ($11.95) -Fish Fillet and soft bean curd in Szechan Sauce ($15.95) -Szechuan Spicy and Dry Beef Saute ($16.95) -Mongolian Beef with Cumin ($14.25) -Fried Fancy Bread ($3.25) -Scallion Pancakes ($4.35) Again, the Mongolian Beef and Fried tofu were great. Everything else was about par for this area and not as good as I have had atKF12 (although KF12 in Clarksville looks to no longer be Szechuan and will become a sushi place...really sad.) The two dishes I would not again would be the cold pasta with sesame sauce and the fried fancy bread. I guess I learned what fried fancy bread was and it wasn't anything amazing in my book. The sesame sauce on the pasta was the most lackluster flavor of sesame sauce I had tasted ever. Probably avoid that one. Otherwise, this is a solid Szechuan spot if you're looking for heat. I did ask for everything to be extra mala and they complied with the la portion at least.

Yelp
Authentic Chinese food. Great options, highly recommend bringing some friends and getting several plates to share!

Yelp
Absolutely shocked at the good reviews. I try to be sensitive with restaurants since they struggle due to Covid, however we are so appalled by the food I want to warn others. Did they even try with our meal??? This is some of the worst food we have ever had! Hard dumplings, flavorless noodles with a ton of OIL. Horrible experience and wish I saved $60 to go elsewhere. Even the rice was not good. We ended up throwing every entree away. I didn't ask for a refund because I still feel bad for restaurant during these times.

Greg C.

Yelp
Very inconsistent. We've had some great stuff here and some not-so-great stuff. Last night we had dan-dan noodles (very spicy but otherwise weak on flavor), fried dumplings (good), and orange chicken (so lacking in flavor that it seems like they just forgot something).

Steven I.

Yelp
For some reason, this great restaurant has been the subject of very judgy reviews. Because of them, I avoided it for a while, but I missed some of their great dishes, so I gave it another try. In short, it was great. The hot and sour soup hearty and pleasingly tart. The numbingly spicy Ma Po Tofu is best in class. Its flavors are distinct and richly complex. Mongolian beef with cumin, long a classic, didn't disappoint The beef, onions, and peppers, coated with cumin in the spicey, peppery sauce made every bite a peak experience. In sum, Joe's Noodle House is in a league with the best of the area's Chinese restaurants. I plan to eat there frequently.

Ellen M.

Yelp
An unpretentious place that serves some of the best Szechuan food I've had in along time. We asked the server for recommendations and she suggested stir fried pork with leeks and hot pepper. We also ordered home style fried tofu. As a last minute add- on, I ordered a large hot and sour soup - a terrific rendition. Two of us had a lot of leftovers and are looking forward to a repeat performance tonight.

Victoria S.

Yelp
If you a craving Sichuan cuisine this is the place to go. They even have a separate 2-page vegetarian menu (instead of the usual 7-8 choices under the regular menu). As of 7/2022 they are still doing only takeout. Service is courteous and prompt (my takeaway order was ready in less than 15 minutes and piping hot). Their ma po tofu rivals that of Sichuan Jin River's. The dish contains copious amounts of numbing peppercorns, leeks, garlic, roasted chilis and chili oil. Their vegetarian dan dan mein is also a standout (great spice and ya cai to complement the noodles). They also have reasonably priced lunch specials and Asian style brunch items (sesame balls, fried bread, bean curd roll) that are excellent.

Sharon J.

Yelp
The noodle soups are very good. I would recommend beef noodle soup or the one with shiitake mushrooms.

Adriana R.

Yelp
How lucky to have found this place!! I absolutely love the food! It was so flavorful! I got the triple pepper chicken a with rice! It was a lot of food. I order over the phone to pick up and it was ready within 10 minutes. Can't wait to go back!

Hayley R.

Yelp
No frills needed. The food is amazing here and the staff is excellent. We love the crispy fish filet, mapo tofu, steamed dumplings, spicy wontons, and Szechuan string beans. :)

Richard K.

Yelp
For lovers of Ma La flavors, their spicy Sichuanese dishes are consistently delicious and is the reason why I'm a repeat customer. The food is better than other restaurants I've tried, IMHO. The restaurant closes in the afternoon which is inconvenient for me but I cannot fault them for that as many restaurants do that to prep for the dinner service. Ambiance is dark and dated but clean. It's a non-issue for me as I order to take away.

Linda O.

Yelp
The menu here is perhaps the most extensive I've ever seen--it almost overwhelms. The food has been below par in my experience. I have asked staff for suggestions as well as tried recommendations of other yelpers, but nothing impresses me. The wonton soup is average; the Hunan preparations I've ordered have no zing; and some of the specialty dishes I've gambled on are poorly executed. The interior has seen better days; restrooms could stand some TLC.

Ana P.

Yelp
The lunch menu prices is what brought us in on a Wednesday afternoon we were off from work. The hubby and I ordered quite a few dishes and enjoyed each of them. It was awesome that the lunch specials came with the option of soups or egg roll and we mixed and match to get a variety with our order. I very much liked the hot and sour soup I had as well as the hubby's egg drop soup. The egg roll was crispy and not overt greasy. We very much enjoyed the Mongolian Beef because of how tender the meat was. The Lo Mien noodles were soft and had just the right amount of chewiness. The fried rice was tasty as well and nothing was overly salty. I appreciated the hot tea served with lunch and how the staff was around for refills. Plenty of free parking right outside in the lot!

Yelp
This place takes both cash and credit card. I came here on a weekday to try out their food dishes. Given that this place is known for their spicy dishes, I thought I give this place a try. For those of you that you intimidated to go to an authentic Chinese restaurant, don't be scared. The staff here speaks English. We ordered the Dan Dan noodles, eggplant with chicken casserole and their spicy beef with veggies Sichuan style. The eggplant dish was very tasty. Very good portion size for 2 people. It also comes with onions which makes the dish stand out more with bright vibrant flavors. This dish was around $13 The spicy beef with veggies is served in a huge glass bowl. In terms of veggies, I only noticed cabbage which seems crazy. I thought there would be more veggies. However, the flavor of the dish was great. Spicy and seasoned well. The Dan Dan noodles.. I really had high hopes for this dish as it got a lot of food reviews here on Yelp. The noodles felt a bit mushy as in the noodles were boiled a tad bit longer than usual. The sauce, which plays a huge role in the dish, lacked the flavor that you normally get with authentic Dan Dan noodles. This was my least favorite dish. If you want better noodles, jin river down the street has better Dan Dan noodle in my opinion. The staff here were friendly and kept filling up our water cups often. The tipping (gratuity) can be given before your meal or after. You have to pay your meal beforehand before they can serve you. Overall, this place has decent spicy food. And their prices are very reasonable and pretty big portions. I give it a 3.2 out of 5.

Yelp
I don't know how it's possible that I've lived in Silver Spring for this long without eating at Joe's, but I know that I'm destined to be a regular diner at this modest restaurant. I won't be able to help myself, because I now know that they have my favorite fish dish in any Chinese restaurant in the area. It's listed on the menu as Fish Filet with pickled peppers, but my family just calls it crack fish. It consists of fish filets in a clear sauce, under a thick layer of the most deliciously spicy/tangy peppers that you might ever want to try. This is not a dish designed to sear your tastebuds. Instead it plays with them as the flaky white fish blends with the heat and vinegar snap of the peppers. There were other dishes on our table, and I was happy to try them and to take photos and offer them to my loved ones. Every bite that someone took of a dish that was not crack fish meant one more bite of fish for me. Yes. Go ahead, have another bite of this delicious Chive Pocket! Would you care to try the Mapo tofu? How about this Crispy Fish, which is truly worth a star all by itself? We also have Noodles- and you know that this is a Noodle house...What, you're full? Oh, so sorry. Can you pass the fish please? I've left them with four stars instead of five due to two things which probably can't be helped. First, the cleanliness and outdated nature of the decor. I do appreciate that that they have reusable chopsticks but didn't like the looks of the inside of my cup. The restaurant shows its age, and not entirely gracefully. The second issue is with the way that orders are placed and paid for. Having to order at the counter was odd, especially as the food arrived on actual platters via a waitstaff. I didn't enjoy having to jump up and ask for and pay for drinks in the middle of our meal as it put a damper on a pleasant evening, and I can not see how it saved the restaurant any extra steps. I know that I'll continue to eat at Joe's. I'll order the Fish Filets with pickled peppers, and I'll be willing to share it with anyone at my table. Let me know that you're on your way and I'll meet you there!

Kathryn L.

Yelp
What a fitting opportunity to give the last star with good food & fellowship amongst great friends. A year & some days later from my initial review, I have made my way to JNH. I still highly recommend the Crispy Fish Fillet that is marinated in spices & red peppers in which my counterparts delighted in. In turn, I tried one of their suggestions, the Fish Fillet that came out like a huge bowl of super fresh made ceviche, especially due to the pickled affect on the fillet. We partook in a smorgasbord fashion with ordering an abundance of appetizers & entrees from the menu's massive selections of fish, meat & plant eaters alike. The preparations, portions, tastes & ambience provided a complete & enjoyable balance. The staff of two, the Manager who rang up the orders shared foodie insight while assisting our friendly Server, who ensured us a pleasant Asian cuisine experience. Deliver, Dine In or To Go, you'll enjoy Joe's Noodle House.

Zoya F.

Yelp
I'm having leftover remorse: remorse about not grabbing more of the leftovers from a New Year's Eve dinner when I had the chance. My friend chauffeured me to and from a New Year' Eve Party, so it seemed only fair that he should get all of the leftovers from dinner. But on New Year's Day, I was thinking how nice it would be to have just bit more of the crispy and tasty Szechuan tofu with pork. Or maybe a lunch of the pork with leek stems--so refreshing. Even this morning, I was thinking of the radish (shredded daikon) with hot sauce. I'll just have to return, order more dishes, and grab lots more leftovers. By the way, Joe's offers not just memorable food, but excellent service. Highly recommended!

Jerry T.

Yelp
Been ordering for years. Glad dining room is open again. I wasn't sure that they would survive Covid.

Sharon L.

Yelp
This place is not what it used to be 15 years ago. I've been coming here for most of my life and this used to have some pretty amazing Sichuan food, but I'm guessing there have been a couple changes of ownership and chefs throughout the last two decades so I would guess this had caused the decline. First off, in terms of the location, this spot is tucked in a little strip right off of Rockville pike. There is ample parking available. When you walk in, you may or may not notice a sign, but after they hand you your menu and seat you, ORDER AT THE COUNTER. Ok, back to the food. We decided on two sides and one entree for two people becuase most entrees here were a little pricier (around $15), but they do give large portions for the entrees. We ordered the cold and spicy mung bean noodles, which is always one of my favorite dishes, the cucumber salad, and the Tibetan cumin lamb. The spicy mung bean noodles are much sweeter than they used to be. In fact, my boyfriend even noted that they almost tasted like a honey barbecue because they were so sweet. It was flavorful, but I would prefer that this dish use more fresh garlic, definitely some more cilantro, and less sugar. The cucumber salad was also on the sweeter side. The cucumber salad isn't your typical Chinese cucumber salad you will see at most places, they were actually wedges and marinated, for what it looked like, a couple of days. They are more resembling of pickles than a salad, including in the sweet aspect, but they are ok. Lastly, for our entree, we had the Tibetan lamb. This was actually delicious. It was Smokey, well spiced with the cumin, and extremely tender. I couldn't get enough of this. Overall, the experience of this place has gone downhill in the last couple years and the appetizers were a miss, but I do hope to return to try more of the entrees.

Ryan D.

Yelp
Wasn't a fan of the food for the most part. Especially the pineapple fried rice. Wouldn't go back.

Nick D.

Yelp
Solid lunch spot for $8 can't beat the price of a big plate of chicken General Tsao, soup and tea! It's right off of Rockville Pike where there are tons of other Asian options. The 3 star is mostly for the fact that this is certainly a fast causal type place with low key service and cleanliness that predates the 2000s.

Heather H.

Yelp
Well, this was simply a terrible dinner while at a conference in Washington DC. Let me try to put in writing what went down, but first make sure you know to stay away from the rabbit appetizer. So..... We got seated with a signal of the hand and were handed two menus, while walking to the assigned , pointed to, table. Water(tasted terrible) and green tea were served promptly and when I asked the waitress what her favorite dish was, she responded with : "I like spicy" Hmm, not much help with the gigantic menu with lots and lots of options. Thanks to the guests on the next table, we were told that we had to go to the counter order and pay up front, so we decided on: Szechuan style rabbit appetizer Tibetan style lamb with cumin Drunken Noodles with chicken Appetizer and Lamb came quickly and at the same time. Hmm, I guess we didn't really want to have an appetizer before anyway. After having realized the chop sticks on the table were dirty and switching them out for some Bambu take out ones, came the shocker: the rabbit was FROZEN! We asked the server and asked if we had a wrong impression of what the appetizer was going to be? She told us, NO! We will remake it. Ok. Armed with fresh plates we started with the Lamb, but the lamb meat was fried into a jerky style, completely dried out and had no sauce what so ever. But was covered in red chili pieces, that had no flavor, but heat only. Disappointing! When the drunken noodles showed up, a blob on a plate that already looked undesirable with tiny pieces of chicken slithers on top we were suspicious, and proven right: the sauce was so sweet and thickened, it was unpalatable and the veggies that belong into the dish were literarily non existent. At the end the rabbit came back to the table, apparently freshly made, but was cold and half frozen again. We gave up and left the establishment, to never to return again. Bottom line, save yourself some trouble and go somewhere else: two people = $38 dollars + tip wasted.

Clarice H.

Yelp
We came in for lunch around 11:30 and it was empty. We ordered the edamame tofu cold appetizer, one xlb, the hot and spicy beef, and the stir fried rice cakes. I thought that the only thing that was truly tasty was the hot and spicy beef. Joe's excels in spicy sichuanese food so I would advise sticking with that! The service was average, nothing particularly interesting to say.

Priscilla Y.

Yelp
3.5 stars. Come here for their Spicy Beef Noodle Soup. The broth is very flavorful and the beef is cooked to perfection. It also comes with veggies. It has a good level of spiciness and perfect for a cold winter day. It is better than the beef noodle soup from A & J's. I also like their MaPo Tofu. Their Fish Fillet and Soft Bean Curd in Szechuan Sauce is really oily and has way too many red peppers. Other than that, it's a nice dish. Don't order the A23 Steamed Chicken with Spicy Szechuan Sauce. Because it is drowning in hot chili oil, they think you will not notice how mummified the chicken looks. It's obviously been sitting in the refrigerator forever. Kind of gross. Service: The guy at the front counter, who may be the owner, looks like he has a stick up his ass. He's not friendly and treats customers like they're a nuisance, especially if you don't speak his language. The female waitress, on the other hand, is really nice and friendly. Even though they seat you and hand you menu, you have to order and pay at the counter. Credit card minimum is $10.

Vince C.

Yelp
I was a little taken aback that I had to provide my credit card information when placing my order over the phone. I have placed many Chinese takeout orders at different restaurants and this was the first that I was asked. I must have sounded surprised and the lady in her own loud condescending tone said, "Don't you know that we ask for credit card over the phone?" When I questioned how would I know, she chuckled and said, "Everyone knows." I was turned off. Thank her and good bye. Perhaps she thinks Joe's Noodle House is the only Chinese restaurant in town. I ended up ordering from East Pearl and had a delicious takeout dinner.

Yelp
Don't be like me, and not realize that Super Mario Big World style sign that hangs above the cashier. I got seated at a table, got a menu from a woman, and then attempted to call back the woman when I was ready to order. *She then points to a sign the size of a Jumbotron that says "Please Order And Pay Here." *Other options - She then points to a sign the size of my embarrassment that says... - She then points to a sign the size of a hump back whale... - She then points to a sign the size of a small carrier jet... - She then points to a sign the size of one of those giant novelty fake checks that reads... - She then points to a sign so large that could be misconstrued for a highway exit sign... In the same vein, it is weird that you would be seated, receive a menu from- from someone who for all intensive purposes is a server- and then you would go to the front to order... but to each their own. I mean... she did pack up my food... and also brought me my drink. So... pretty much the only thing she didn't do was take my order and receive payment. She even gave me fortune cookies on one of those plastic check presenters... with no check... just the fortune cookies. Beef Noodle Soup: Great level of spice, noodles are of a great texture, broth is a bit thinner than Sichuan Jin River; more reminiscent of Shanghai Taste. Dan Dan Noodles: These were fantastic. It gives me second doubts about calling Sichuan Jin River's the best Dan Dan Noodles. Great spice, noodles are perfectly cooked with the right amount of sauce. A really hearty portion too for the price.

Yelp
FIRST: "JOE'S" was removed from the name of the place many years ago. now, it is simply The Noodle House. It is located across 355 from Congressional Plaza and sits next door to Yekta, a wonderful middle-eastern market and restaurant. I've been a customer and fan of this restaurant for nearly 50 years when I worked at the nearby "Parklawn Building." While the chef and ownership have changed over the decades, the quality of the food has stayed consistently superb. IF you want to try Sichuan food, THIS is the place (or Sichuan Jin River, a couple of miles North - reviewed separately). This is a relatively tiny and unprententious restaurant. Do NOT expect fancy decorations. You cannot eat them, anyway! This was one of the first Asian restaurants in the area to recognize that some people like me are sensitive to Gluten and to use Gluten Free soy sauce upon request. My only regret is that they will only custom make hot and sour soup for me using the special soy sauce if between meal times. They make the BEST hot and sour soup anywhere! I have two favorite dishes: their Native Style MaPa Tofu is the best I have ever had anywhere, in any country. It is fiery hot, but made with tongue numbing Sichuan pepper such that they achieve the difficult task of making food hot but tasty. You can get it either meatless or with meat. They add a few greens from the top of leeks. I happen to LOVE this and ask for extra. My other favorite dish is called simply Beef with Chinese Vegetable. It is beef in an awesome sauce almost identical to that for their MaPo cooked with perhaps Snow Cabbage. Just writing about it is making my mouth water. If you are NOT into spicy, their noodle dishes are superb. Since I went gluten free, I am limited to those made with rice noodles like Singapore Rice Noodles. But I well remember how wonderful their Drunken Noodles are. My wife loves their casserole dishes. In addition to all of the above, they have marvelous genuine Chinese appetizers in the refrigerated showcase at the counter where you order. I have tried many of them and they are great. Finally, for authentic food, look at the large board on the wall behind the counter. The Noodle House will have seasonal favorites many of which are unknown to westerners. ASK and yee shall be told. Many are veggie dishes featuring authentic Asian veggies. The people who own and run this restaurant are simply wonderful. Even though you must order at the counter, instead of at the table, service is perfect. Ask for a "frequent dining" card, you WILL be back and if you pay with cash for meals over $20, you will get a stamp on your cards. After 10 stamps, you get $20 off your next meal!

Yelp
WARNING! This restaurant is American Chinese style. Lots dishes are not supposed to be sweet, but taste very sweet. For example, steam fish with sour cabbage sauce.

Yelp
As another review pointed out, this place has not been called "Joe's Noodle House" for some time now- rather just The Noodle House. It was popping back when I used to go to this restaurant and am now writing this review because I went recently. They've redone the inside, but for Sichuan food, this place was still disappointing. They switched management many years ago and the quality went down. If you want real Sichuan food, go to Sichuan Jin River a couple miles up the road in Rockville. That place has the best Sichuan food.

Yelp
We used to eat in at Joe's, before covid and really liked it. In fact, we recommended it to our friends as the place to go for Chinese. We just had carry-out for the first time and both our meals were terrible. The box of white rice was so mushy we made our own white rice at home, before eating our meals. I got the triple delight and after three bites I threw it in trash. My wife ate 1/4 of hers and did the same. I used to love that dish here, but oh my goodness, what happened. I am sorry for being honest, but really was a total waste of money. I have to look for a new Chinese place now and this one was very convenient. Lazar

Yelp
This was my first time coming here, I was a little bit nervous as I walk in because no one was there except the people that works there, I'm guessing it's because I went there for early dinner. Inside the restaurant was okay, its small. The set up was different compare to the other restaurants you seat where you want and the waitress will come give you the menu and tea. The hot tea is a complimentary not sure what kind it was though but it's good. The food was alright, i ordered spicy and tasty pork chop it was totally different to what I expected. It's SPICY! They put a lot of hot peppers on it. I also got lemon chicken it was pretty good my boyfriend loves it. It was cheap for the amount of food they gave us.

Yelp
Why people like this place? No clue. I fondly think back to Chinatown in NYC and wonder how the Chinese restaurants get away with the disgusting food they parade in MoCo. Ordered the fish filet in white sauce - my favorite dish. I could taste the uncooked flour and the "white fish" was pink and frozen inside. I nearly vomited. Service is not great either. Spend your money elsewhere on Rockville Pike.

Yelp
My husband was very excited for us to try this place out but, unfortunately, we both left disappointed. With the exception of the slices pork with garlic sauce appetizer, all of the dishes were mediocre at best (smoked duck, a seafood dish and eggplant with pork). Not going back.

Yelp
We used to live in Queens and were used to the best Chinese food on this side of the Pacific, so we had low expectations moving to Maryland. Well, those expectations have been utterly blown away by Joe's Noodle House. Not only is the food unbelievable, but every time we're there I feel like we are treated like family. Some of my favorites: - Dan Dan Noodles - Beef Noodle Soup - String Beans with Pork - Salty & Crispy Squid - Tibetan Style Lamb with Cumin - Soup Dumplings I could go on and on. What a great place.
