Neighborhood joint with some good food. I had Shepherd's Pie, it was a little skimpy on the veggies but an awesome meal anyway. Tasty, hot, obviously prepared with care. Bartender Karen was very busy but stayed friendly and on top of everything. No hesitation to recommend checking it out.

Went there last night with my good friend. What a nice place with such friendly people. Met the owner who's a great man made me feel very welcome. Karen at the bar was spot on with her drinks

Tried Joe’s Place on Union recently. The experience was okay overall. The atmosphere was casual and the staff was polite, but the food didn’t quite hit the mark for me. I had the Shepherd’s Pie — it was decent, but lacked seasoning and could have used a bit more flavor. Not a bad spot, but I was hoping for a little more from the dish. Might give it another try in the future to sample something else from the menu.

Super expensive for what you get. Frozen chicken sandwich was sub par and expensive. They charge the bar and food separately and they charged me 2x for the food. Waitress didn't even give me copies of my receipts she also said she signed the receipt and when I checked my bank statement I was charged twice for the food and once for the bar. Shady stuff going on at this establishment. Currently disputing the duplicate charges.

Give this local place a try if you can. As you can see by reading the reviews the staff is so friendly, and welcoming, they take care of you. It’s not just a bar, there is a casual dining room, plenty of tables. The food is good, VERY GOOD!! I ordered shrimp and veg upon recommendation 👍👍. Others at my table had penne vodka with some great looking grilled chicken, and fish n chips. Bring your family or friends. A full meal thats more affordable than many places.

Great place if you like little hole in the wall pubs. Although has a dining room I've never seen. Love the bar, though. Staff is very friendly. Nice local place good for strangers. Can get a little loud. Love it!

Cool place with, a good atmosphere, came for happy hour $1 off drinks no happy hour food. The bartender is funny and a friendly good host. 👍

Fruit flies and sewer smell will not be going back until the full renovation is done. This place is no longer Joe's it's JT. While we were sitting amongst extension cords, fruit flies, the smell of sewer gas over heard they were going to redo the dining room. Hope it gets better. Good luck in the future. Service couldn't be better woman was attentive and super sweet..

One of the best burgers you will ever have. Full menu and great service. There is a separate dining room, but sitting at the bar make the Joe's experience memorable

Great divey bar to watch the game and grab a quick drink along with some bar food. I stopped in at Joe's on a Monday night and ordered a round of beers and some appetizers. The service was quick and the food came out fast. Buffalo chicken tenders and tater tots were pretty good and I hope to try out their other menu options. Check it out if you're in the Union area and looking for a no frills place to catch any major sporting event on the tube.

Great food great service and nice people. Not fancy but comfortable and clean. Right on Morris Ave and has off street parking.

Haven't been yet, but I'm going tonight. After reading the reviews, I think I'm gonna love this joint. I'll be back at you later with more.

have to say it's been 4 years since i stopped in this tavern. What a good time hanging out with the locals, plenty of laughs, good eats ( had wings ,burgers and grilled chicken sandwich ) all came out hot, tasty and filling. recommend this place if your looking for a good meal and fun time will be back in near future

i originally came here for food, but kitchen was closed... :( but, i'm an avid bar patron and ya know what? the bartender and vibe here made up for that real quick. this is my first bar experience here in Union, and it feels like home already. if you're around the way, come by for a night cap.

No better feeling than a local dive where you can walk in and say hello to just about everyone. You open the door and walk in, greeted immediately... by more than a few people. Nice, comfy, and the food is on point! My personal suggestions? Grilled Chicken BLT (amazing), gotta get the tots with whatever you order although the fries are sick too.. fried buffalo chicken wrap.. and cmon, the famous burgers! Any of em! Dont miss out!

They don't cook burgers per temperature, you ask for a rare, you're getting medium well, you ask for a well done, you're getting medium well, you ask for medium well, you're getting medium well. lol The burger buns have changed, no longer do they have soft buns but now they are using that rough Kaiser roll type stuff and I'm not a fan of it. aside from that their fried items taste like their grease could be changed more often. The ambiance of the place is a total dive bar, it might as well be someones household basement bar with meme-ish townie pictures, random scribblings and decor plastered about. A few years ago I would have gave it a 4/5, but It's different last couple times I've been inside.

My friend went here on the spur of the moment because she had a giftcard (school fundraiser raffle-cause teacher's drink... A LOT!) This place is small. The new owner, Timmie who was standing outside having a smoke, told us the dining area was closed dor a private event, but we could sit at the bar. Remember I said the place is small, yeah, well "the bar" about 8 seats, were all taken. Timmie delt bad & yelled to Elizabeth, the bartender: "get them whatever drink they want, on me!" And this, ladies & gents, began our 4 hour night at Joe's Place. Beer-Sam Adam's Summer Ale was deliciously cold. I had the buffalo chicken sandwich, and baby, that thang was juicy My friend got a bacon cheese burger that she said was a real, handcrafted ground beef burger. The firemen that were (a graduation) provided the entertainment. My friend were the only brown folk in there, and despite the micro-aggressions, we felt comfortable & thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We shall return to Joe's Place, with or without a gift card

A+ I hosted my husbands 40th birthday party here. He loves a good dive bar! We had the back room to ourselves. They provided trays of finger food and everything was nicely set up in the back area. Our waitress was Jane and she was amazing. She kelp the drinks flowing for our guests. Thank you for a wonderful party!

Under new ownership, this dive bar is a great place to come and spend time with great people. The bar is basically a family, all the regulars and all the bartenders know each other, and they always welcome newcomers. If you're not into the bar scene, there is restaurant style seating in the back. The food here is really great, a big step above what I've come to expect from a 'dive bar.' It's easy to see why there are so many regulars, this is a great bar.

Too much to say. Killer total local cop/fire bar, super friendly clientele & staff. Good tap. Great specials & deelish food. BEST burgers ever, cooked exactly like you want! Fantastic anchor bar wings. Kid friendly, but rowdy when it needs to be. You might get lucky & hear impromptu Latrobe from the bar. Love this place!

We stopped in after reading that Joe's Place was a top recommended burger joint, and we're on a mission to find the best burgers in Jersey. It was a Saturday night, and our fears that this little dive bar might be crowded were thwarted upon our arrival. Besides a small "Joe's Place" sign, the place is nondescript, so look for the green awning. There are also a few random doors, and we had to try 2 or 3 of them until we found one that would lead us inside. There is a bar area and a room in the back for dining. While the bar was full with regulars, the dining area was empty so we found one small table against the wall by the bar. The bartender/waitress was lovely and quite helpful, and one of the regulars gave me a chair with a back so I didn't have to sit on a stool the whole time (so so nice of him to do!) We each ordered a burger, mine being a bacon cheeseburger. It was really just OK. While there was nothing bad about it, I can't sit here and say I would ever crave going back there just for that item. Also, the bun was kind of big and cold - almost like a bakery roll but one that could have been toasted or warmed so it added flavor to the burger instead of just being the thing that the meat sat upon. Two other things to note: 1. The regulars were a bit tipsy and it was only 7pm. This may be a place to go to in order to kick back and cut loose, but it isn't a place to go to to relax and have a casual drink. It was loud, people were stumbling, and there were arguments about a missing $20 with accusations of someone else stealing the money. It was amusing to watch from a distance, but I wouldn't have felt comfortable if we were sitting in the mix with everyone else. 2. There was a sign over the bar that said that "Bar Rescue" was coming. If that's the truth, it'll be interesting to see how this little bar changes in the near future.

Recently moved to the area and im a big burger enthusiast so we went to try Joes. The owner came up to us and noticed we were new to the pub and when we told him we just moved to the area he had our first drink on the house! Then he told us about the area and the bar is a neighborhood bar and a little bit about union. We thought that was really awesome for a first impression. They have a good selection of beer. The burgers were awesome, however i am not very partial to having a burger on a kaiser roll, but the patty itself was very flavorful! And reading other reviews of course the bar is loud... its a bar? But i didnt have to scream across the table to be heard . We will certainly be back!

I went to Joe's place for the very first time tonight after talking about going for a month and it was beyond fabulous. Bar tender Ann was amazing " I think her name was Ann" I was telling her about my obsession with burgers and she promised me I would be very happy eating a burger from Joe's place. She was right! I had wings and a burger and it was awesome! Bar a little loud but it's ok it was the " regulars" it's a good home town pub bar that everyone knows your name. I'm new so nobody new mine but you get what I mean. Anyways it was amazing! Great bar food but only judging from what I had "wings and a burger" On point! I will be going back!

Seems like a nice spot. Especially for locals. However, it's the bartenders party, if your not on her wave it's a tsunami-drown yourself in her reality. Your choice. Union deserves better

I would give this place zero stars if I could. My date & I went to grab some drinks here! After spending our money here my date played a pop/rap song on their juke box and was later told by a waitress that the manager said we can't play any rap songs... If an establishment has a jukebox with several genres of music on it you should be able to play the different genres. We left right after. If you want to feel outcasted this is the place to go bc they only cater to a specific crowd. If you like anything other than country music or rock this is probably not the place for you. If you're black this also is not the place to go. Worst bar experience I've ever had.

I have to withdraw my recommendation here. The last time I visited, June 1st, I went with a longtime friend. As we were leaving, a regular and a waitress got into a shouting match with some people in a car. A few racial epithets were uttered by the regular, and it greatly embarrassed me. My friend, sadly, said he was used to hearing things like that but that made me even more determined not to visit the place again. I am heartily saddened to write this, but it really put me off.

I heard it was a nice spot to eat at BUT as soon as I walked in, I got the "what are you doing here" face from everybody in there. This place is not ALL ETHNICITIES friendly if you know what I mean. The bartender was so rude and sharply speaking to me I just left. Never again. They need to get out the 1930's.

I used to work up the street from Joe's so I guess I became somewhat of a regular there. Joe's is the quintessential bar. I always ate their burgers and left as a happy patron! The burgers are thick and juicy and the bacon is smoked with something because I can taste it all throughout the burger. There's always a mixed bunch from local retirees to suits in that place but all appear to be happy when I am there. Drafts are cheap which appeals to my dolla dolla. I need a draft beer when I eat a burger. I GULP and bottled beer doesn't allow a full gulp. They throw an awesome St. Patricks day party.. kind of wish I was there right now! You can park in the back but no prking on Morris Ave.

Easy atmosphere & great bar food. Don't skip the chicken sandwiches! Takeout is always on point.

Joe's is a place of regulars. When I am back in my hometown, I frequently find myself here. Billy Boy, is my bartender and the coolest one there is. Food is excellent for bar food and the drinks are very generous.

Walked in here to try a burger due to the reviews. Upon walking in I immediately felt uncomfortable. Only person of color and no friendly looks. I stood in the back corner at the end of the bar waiting for anyone to acknowledge me. The bartender comes over and I ask to see a menu. She tells me the kitchen is closed on Sundays as she's clearing a plate from a guest right in front of me. Heard you loud and clear. My kind isn't welcome. I left expeditiously.

Good local bar... Burgers and sandwiches are good and lots of beers on tap... everyone is really friendly and there's a dining room in the back of you want to eat in a quieter environment.

Joe's is a nice dive bar. We have been here a few times and always enjoyed ourselves without breaking the busget. Think $3 beers and a local crowd.

Thanks for the tips about the burgers...they really are great, homemade and delicious. It was quiet on an August Saturday, so we walked right in. A family-run business...so friendly. We will probably become regulars. I can't believe it's been there 14 years and we've never found it, but now it will be our first choice when we are just looking for a quick burger.

Old school bar. Just a watering hole, but has AMAZING burgers. Feels like a dive from a movie but thats what makes it charming. Have been there many times over the years. Its the kinda place you go watch a game at or catch a beer after work. Mixed crowd of locals but always friendly. Parking is off on the side street and in a municipal lot.

Good dive bar, everyone's nice. Beers are very well priced. Bartenders funny. Place is pretty clean. Read the signs on the wall.

I really like this bar. Great burger, very good steak, chicken salad and the bar pie is ok. Very high percentage of men. Lots of tvs and a quieter dining room in the back. Very police,fire, tradesmen friendly. Could use a few more ladies to balance out the crowd. Sometimes it gets really loud.

Good local dive bar. Good beers on tap and there's a dinning room in the back to sit and eat when hanging and chatting with the locals gets in the way of eating. I went on a Monday and they had $6 bugers!!! Each order comes with fries, superdeal. McDonald's can't beat it. The burgers are massive, 10oz I believe. Good place to unwind after a crazy day at work.

Seriously an awesome dive bar. But, the clean kind of dive bar. Third time here, third time having good service. We don't ask for much, but being approached in the first minute after sitting down makes us smile! Thank you Joe's for being a go-to place for extremely casual drinking!

Had late lunch here which consisted of a Caesar salad with grilled chicken and a salad with blackened chicken. Both salads were awesome and so tasty. My friend said best blackened chicken he had, seasoned to perfection. We love it here! The bartender was also so very pleasant and friendly! Love Joe's

Joe's Place is the local dive bar in the town I grew up. Cheap drinks, fun music and hysterical encounters with people I haven't seen in high school. I always have a good time when I go.

Very much a dive bar! I walked in for lunch and it was so obviously all locals sitting at the bar. If your comfortable with that though, you'll like it. I had the BLT and it was nothing to rave over but nothing to complain over either. My dad swears by their burgers so go and give em a try!

Good place for a burger, depends who is cooking though. you can catch a good special on the right day. blue collar crowd during the day and a bunch of nut jobs on the weekends, loud music accompanied by louder singing. all in all a good place for a burger and a beer

Quite a mean burger this hole in the wall dive spot has to offer. Medium rare w/cheddar takes you home.

The sign outside says "Eat at Joes". That's very good advice. I'd recommend you do so. They serve the best burgers in the area. The drinks are fairly priced and Joes Place is well maintained. This is a wonderful neighborhood place and is worth a visit if you find yourself in the neighborhood.

i went a few years ago and it was horrible. i couldnt move! too crowded. not my type of crowd. never again.

Simple old school bar. Cold beer with a decent selection, generous pours in drinks and burgers to die for. The fries didn't suck either

I've eaten burgers all over the country and many of the best burgers in NYC and in my opinion Joe's Place makes the best burger I have ever had.My friends and I come here at least once a week for lunch, primarily for their burgers. I order my burgers medium rare and every time it is perfectly cooked. My favorite burger on the menu is the black and gold burger, which a burger with fried onions and blue cheese dressing. Its absolutely delicious. The atmosphere is that of a typical dive bar, where you can expect to see retired firefighters, police officers, and townies. Being 26 I can see where people might be turned off by the crowd, but it only adds to the experience. The bartenders are great and very attentive. Philomena or Phil as most of the regulars call her, is a very friendly and welcoming bartender, she is top notch and gets your beers and food to you in a very timely manner. I really can't say anything bad about the place, perfect dive bar atmosphere and fantastic food, I recommend it to everyone I know.

the burgers are so good ! get it with a Guinness or a black and Tan,nothing better then that !
