"Dinner at Johannes can feel like traveling to a different universe—and not because there’s some over-the-top design aesthetic or boundary-pushing menu. In fact, this casual Austrian-leaning spot is pretty standard in that regard. It’s because no matter what night you go, the entire place will be filled with people who actually live in Palm Springs. Couples with weekly standing reservations split crispy, tender wiener schnitzel (there are seven different kinds on the menu) and groups of neighbors swig red wine and inquire who’ll be their server tonight. Johannes is a complete throwback and where you need to go when you’re done talking over bachelorette parties all night." - brant cox

Google
Johannes has the trendy Palm Springs atmosphere one would expect when visiting the downtown area. We were seated near the kitchen, not in the dining room, and that may have skewed my review a bit. I felt that the service was on point, the food was okay, but it was very noisy where we were seated. All in all, I felt it was overpriced. I had the caper lemon schnitzel which was fair, but because of the price point, it wasn’t wonderful. There is no way it should be a $44 dinner plate. Probably not a restaurant I would choose to return to with all the other options in town.

I enjoy the majority of the restaurants in Palm Springs but have been looking forward to visiting Johannes for some time. I finally had some friends from out of town and we were able to get reservations. Johannes is by far a step above the other restaurants and worth every penny! The service is spot on. The server explained in detail a delightful variety of specials for the day along with information about any dish we asked about. She memorized everything we ordered and came back with everything perfect! The food was incredibly pleasing to the eye, stunningly full portions, that were equally incredibly delicious! We shared escargot for an appetizer and tiramisu for dessert. Both excellent! I will be frequenting Johannes much more often, even if it's just me eating at the bar. All the food is impeccable. There is an extensive schnitzel menu that has only compared to my favorite restaurants in Munich. You won't be disappointed with this place!!

Google
We had an incredible meal. I was so happy and surprised to see Sweetbreads on the menu! Fantastic! The service was absolutely fantastic as well! We sat outside, the traffic was annoying and I got bit by a mosquito on my forehead. Next time; indoors for sure, it looked pretty festive in there. We are definitely going back 😁

Google
I had an incredible dinner experience at Johannes! From the friendly greeting that Daniel offered, to the yummy cocktails, and exceptional service from Barrie and Ariel... I will definitely be back the next time I'm in Palm Springs! It's obvious that Chef and Owner Johannes cares about his guests and their experience; this shines through his personal comments and greetings at each table, and of course the extraordinary quality and flavor of the food. I highly recommend. Reservations are also a good idea!

Google
Hands down the best restaurant in Palm Springs. The service was friendly yet efficient, the mussels were the best I've ever had in my life, and the peppercorn schnitzel is a must. Will return. Definitely add this to your list!

Google
Worst food ever. 175/person for Christmas. Low quality. Scam. Had the “duck,” more likely 3 dollar Ralph’s chicken. Dry, and not duck. Total bill, $586.00, With $86.09 mandatory gratuity. Lamb, 16 oz was not worthy for my dog. Was tough, over cooked and dry. The shrimp appetizer tasted like mayo and ketchup. The creme brulet, wasn’t even hard on the exterior and was clumpy and mushy. The bread pudding had to be microwaved, dry and partly uncooked. This was the worst Christmas dinner in my life. I complained and the waiter laughed and said better luck next time as he enjoyed his 20% tip.

Schnitzel time! Weather a schnitzel lover or occasional fan, Johannes has what you are looking for to please your crave for schnitzels! And don’t forget to indulge your sweet tooth with an apple strudel. Nice ambience and superb customer service! Parking can be a bit challenging depending on the day and time, plan accordingly.

Google
Reservation process was simple. Called left message, got a prompt call back shortly after 3pm. Great wine and cocktail menu. Started with the meatballs in curry sauce and the seafood cocktail. Main course, I had the Pork Medallions My Way with apples, pees, gnocchi and a small side of spetzel. Service was good, food was good. Would definitely come back.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful experience at Johannes for dinner last night. We were celebrating our anniversary and valentines weekend in Palm Springs. This restaurant is in the main area of town and we were able to walk over from our hotel which was great. We arrived an hour or so early expecting to have to wait at the bar while our table became available, but we were seated right away outside under the heaters and were very comfortable. Our server was wonderful and attentive without interrupting us constantly. We had the shrimp cocktail to start which was different to what we are used to, but so good. The shrimp was tossed in their special sauce so no dipping on cocktail sauce. Very clean tasting and delicious. Then we had a mixed green salad that was so fresh and crispy. My husband and I both chose schnitzel for dinner (one with a peppercorn sauce and one Jager style). So delicious. If you have ever been to Germany or Austria the schnitzel is something you remember and this place just took me back there. So yummy. We also were able to sub out our fingerling potato side with spaetzel which was exactly what we were craving. Dessert for us was the apple strudel of course and it was also perfect. We'll be back!!!

Yelp
Johannes is one of our favorites in Palm Springs. The schnitzel is amazing! The Au Pear cocktail was just okay. It had a strong medicinal taste. The beef was cooked to perfection too. The service is always perfect. Once again, a great meal at a great place.

Yelp
Was looking for a place for dinner when I was in Palm Springs and I walked by this place. Looks very elegant and chic so I went in. Wonderful service with great foods. Clean and modern style. Sat outside on the sidewalk so I can enjoys people walking, Would come back next time to check out other dishes.

Yelp
We came all the way in from Rancho Mirage ... sort of a standing joke because as we get older a 20 minutes car ride is excessive lol. The restaurant was very nice inside. the decor was urban chic and when you walked in they have a small 4 seat bar and a large room off to the right side. they also have a nice patio for outdoor dinning. The place was busy and we say right away. cocktails we had the blood orange cocktail and a German beer. Food wise we had the meatballs and the escargot both excellent. entrees we all had Schnitzel which was the best Ive had. Our server was friendly and responsive with our drinks and food. This is definitely a place to try!

DaVina L.

Yelp
Its a lovely Wednesday night and my daughter and I are looking for a place for dinner. And much to our delight, we stumbled upon Johannes. From the moment we walked in we were greeted with a warm smile. The cocktails were outstanding and the food was better than I ever could have imagined. This is a must-try when in Palm Springs

Yelp
I love schnitzels so glad we found this restaurant in Palm Springs. Modern decor with covered outdoor seating. We came for dinner to a full house immersed in a jovial setting. Waitstaff are enthusiastic in recommendations always with a smile. My other half ordered the veal cutlet with hunter sauce and I had just a plain veal schnitzel that came with loganberry jam, also ordered a side of spatzle. Both cutlets are done just right--crispy on the outside while still fairly moist inside. I didn't expect them to pound the cutlet paper thin like in Germany but it's still quite tender! Comfort food done right. This will be one of our go to restaurantS next time when we go to our timeshare in P. Springs. Highly recommended.....enjoy!

Sharon S.

Yelp
Delicious food in a beautiful atmosphere. The service was spot on and the waiter was really lovely to us and made great recommendations. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Birthday party for eight people required a telephone reservation that was effortlessly handled by Ray who turned out to be our thoughtful server! Seated near an extensive climate controlled walk-in wine cellar with sliding glass doors, the South dining room was in full view from our table. Ray brought drink menus, food menus, and an astonishing wine list. Here is where the enormity of the offerings hit us... At length, three specialty cocktails, German Beer, Australian red wine appeared. The cocktails were beautifully presented. A sidecar, an espresso martini, and a Tito's "Triple 'X'" were crafted by an expert bartender. Red Silk, an Australian wine pleased the three who enjoyed its attributes. At the suggestion of a pal who thought Johannes would be a great restaurant for a birthday dinner, I had planned to order the Wiener Schnitzel. Ray had other ideas... There were specials that were even more tempting. Several ordered Veal Cordon Bleu. I lucked out. For one week only, the chef was preparing Veal Sweetbreads, a rarity, but a longtime personal favorite. Results were wonderfully delicious! Desserts included Tiramisu, chocolate cake, vanilla ice cream, and a sampler platter. Our evening ended with coffee drinks. Kudos to Ray for orchestrating such a splendid experience. Johannes is recommended without reservation, but diners will need a reservation, especially on busy weekend evenings.

Yelp
Lots of delicious German favorites (delightfully they are somewhat traditional but with small twists, but not trying to be too creative) and many non-German dishes. We loved our entrees, the Cheese Spaetzle and the 3-part dessert sampler. Service was a bit choppy, but it was fine. Would come back.

Nijole T.

Yelp
Being German myself, I was elated to find authentic German restaurant in Palm Springs! Reservations were prize and it was not too busy when we showed up for dinner. Beautiful restaurant, plenty of seating. Service is wonderful, very efficient and welcoming. I highly recommend trying the spaetzle with cheese, our favorite dish here. The schnitzel was not the best, I do make those better at home. Prices are a bit high, but considering the area and the quality of the food served it was worthy of the splurge. Nice dining option for the area!

Yelp
Modern American-Austrian cuisine in for a Mid Century Modern city. Johannes is expensive with modern inflation prices, but it is probably the very best at what it does. Service is friendly, interior is clean, modern, a bit retro, with good sound proofing so you can still have a conversation with your dining mates without shouting, despite the crowd. Service is smiling and personable. Johannes is famous for it Wiener Schnitzel dishes, one of my favorites! And Johannes does it good, real good! But you are gonna pay for it: $44 at plate! I got the special Green Madagascan Peppercorn Sauce(Au Poivre ?) which was flavorful, mellow spicy, and added pizazz to this traditional dish. The wife chose more wisely with the Lemon Caper sauce...it was rich, fragrant, buttery, and delicious...better than mine! My one critique about the schnitzels is that the outer breading wasn't crispy to my liking(Note: I've eaten schinitzel in America, Germany, Czech Republic, Poland, and Austria...they all do it crispier). $19 Cheese Spätzeln...this was a mistake, I ordered the $7 Spätzeln, but it was hearty and delicious mistake! Sautéed House Made Noodles Melted In Gruyere & Fontina Cheese, Wild Arugula, Crispy Onions, Chives. This appetizer is huge and great for sharing. It was so good, that I did not even complain to the waitress that she got this wrong. If you love a creative mac n cheese, you'll love this! Add in a beer, glass of wine, and taxes, and we had a $160 check, before tip, yikes! I don't have any regrets, but it's definitely a once in awhile splurge...

Yelp
A solid 4-4.5. Nice Buzzy Friday night crowd. We went with 2 friends who had been there before. Loved the Weinersnitzel (sp) w caper sauce. + hubby loved his lambies! All nice service + cute place too. Definitely recommend!

Heidi H.

Yelp
Fabulous Food! Had the scallops and they were Heaven Went in for Father's Day and we all had a wonderful time!

Jeremy Tyson J.

Yelp
Johannes is a must visit restaurant. The food is absolutely amazing. The steaks are pure perfection and melt in your mouth. The marinated berries dessert is to die for. The service and ambience are OK. However, if the food is this amazing they take a back seat to the food.

Joe L.

Yelp
I'll say the place is clean, the service was good and friendly. But the food was nothing special. Some of it was the worst I've ever eaten. I think it was way over priced for what we had. Sorry we won't be back and I can't recommend you. Your food isn't worth $375.

Ben V.

Yelp
My food was amazing! I had the fried oysters appetizer and the Wiener schnitzel. Would definitely come back to try the other types of schnitzel on the menu. Our waiter had a wide variety of specials to offer and was very helpful with any questions we had. It's a fun place that was busy on a Saturday night in downtown Palm Springs.

J H.

Yelp
I used to love this place, but the quality of the food has really declined as of late. I miss the days when Johannes ran the kitchen, and maintained the consistent level of culinary excellence that one can expect from an Austrian chef. I have come back several times over the past two years hoping that I was just experiencing an off night, or two, but it seems that things are not nearly as good as they once were. Tip: If you are seated anywhere near the kitchen, go somewhere else, your senses of smell and taste will be overwhelmed by the smoke, and you cannot enjoy the food, let alone your time at Johannes.

Lucy W. H.

Yelp
We heard so many wonderful things so we had to try the food ourselves. The Wiener schnitzel is excellent. The cheese spaetzle was very filling. My halibut was a bit dry and overcooked as it was thin. Apple streusel was seclusion.

Jacob N.

Yelp
So I will give my honest review about this place. I don't normally give 3 stars but I'm going to be honest about everything. Food: The food was okay, the best was the yellow curry. It had great flavor and the shrimp was very nice and meaty. The shrimp cocktail was a bit more on the slimy side and very creamy, which is an odd texture for shrimp ( in my opinion). It had a decent taste and so I'm not saying don't try it, I just don't feel like it's worth it. The cheese dish had an odd taste to it. My wife loved it, I personally wasn't a fan. The service: the service was decent our server was nice. Was really set me in the wrong direction was ANYTHING YOU SHARE, COST $10 no matter what.. if your significant other had a bite, they are going to charge you for that, which is insane to me. This is my wife and I first time and we only came by recommendation of strong drinks and a decent cheese dish (the drinks are more on the strong side) and after spending $130 there was a $10 SHARING CHARGE. THE STUPIDEST THING. Then our server says "yea it's been like that for 20 years" and then stares at me... I can understand if you told your costumers that, WHEN THEY SAY WE ARE GOING TO SHARE. WE we weren't made aware of that when we said we are gonna share this plate then it's slapped on and then we are told it's in the fine print and we are celebrating our anniversary. Honestly, really really good because I feel like the server could've been so much better about it and honest about it we were wanting to share and he had multiple chances to tell us that it was going to cost us to share not tell us when the bill comes. It's our first (and last) time here , we wanted to be referred food not read every detail and see it in the fine print. Overall 6.5/10. Not happy

Yelp
We're not 'fancy' diners, but we splurged at Johanne's for a special vacation meal. We used OpenTable as they recommend for reservations and were seated immediately - good thing we had the reservations on a Saturday evening, they were filling up fast. Clearly the place was full of regulars based on the conversations between the staff and diners. I've eaten schnitzel up and down Central Europe when I lived there, and Johanne's compares with the best of them. Delicately seasoned, perfectly fried. We had the Ahi tuna tartare and mushroom soup ("Hot Soup") for appetizers which were both on point, fresh and delicious. My wife went for the pork medallions which were melt-in-your-mouth savory. The staff was friendly and efficient, and anticipated our needs. We didn't exactly 'save room' for dessert, but once our wait staff told us about the dessert sampler, we couldn't say no. Glad we didn't! The warm chocolate cake was dense and chocolaty like I like with a just-enough scoop of ice cream and the lemon creme brulee type thing was lucious. All in all Johannes was such a pleasant and enjoyable experience. The decor is simple but elegant, everything artfully plated, and as some other reviewers mentioned, nice heavy silverware. That makes a difference! We look forward to returning.

Dave M.

Yelp
The schnitzel was the best tasting meal I've had in Palm Springs. It was that good! Both cheap but aligns with similar restaurants in the area.

Christine B.

Yelp
Wow wow wow is enough to be stated about Johannes. Service was spot in the the food was beyond tasty and fabulous. Would of gone back again but they were closed. Small classy place cloth napkins and great silverware nit the cheap bendable stuff.

Mark D.

Yelp
While staying in Palm Springs for the weekend, we were excited to dine at Johannes Modern European Restaurant. The ambiance was ok, the art somewhat dated, the crowd somewhat geriatric, that being said we were there only for the good food we read about online. From the start we waited at least 10 minutes to even receive menus, then were told if we wanted bread that was an extra charge. We didn't let those things bother us because again, we were there for the good food we read about online. We ordered, the filet mignon, medium. The Wiener schnitzel, and the beet salad- and of course some bread. While the food was beautiful, it lacked seasoning- and to our dismay- the filet mignon was raw, no where near medium. The sauce that smothered the meat also had a chemical burn taste we just could not get around. It tasted almost radioactive... and while we were nice about the send back, then didn't give us a new piece of meat, which was lame considering the dish coast 60$. We asked the chef to taste the sauce and apparently he refused. The worst part was they still charged us for the steak. Overall not a very good experience at Johannes...

Mark C.

Yelp
I'm sad to say that we can never frequent this place again. Food is absolutely fine (see previous) but this is the second time we've received horrendously slow service from the same server. The first time we understood because the whole restaurant was suffering but this time not only was everything delayed but we were totally ignored. No bread until we asked for it and received it about An hour after we were seated. When it came time for our bill, we split the bill and actually both cards were charged full price on each card/. No apologies and our server disappeared. Her sister, another server, told me that she must have been frazzled because my oartner got her upset and that she was sorry my partner was so mean about it and i get it, but who would be nice about such slow service in comparison to other tables and being charged double. The other couple we were with had not been there in 6 years due to similar issues and were giving it one last shot because more often than not, we received decent service . They were extremely disappointed as well: We were told the kitchen was busy but other tables were served way before us so ...perhaps the kitchen plays favorites with their servers in terms of speed. . I understand that things happen but I thought it was pretty horrible when they basically told us that we should have been nicer about it and despite all the issues, (including not even giving us bread for an hour) they didn't offer a single apology. All we ask is that you recognize the error and apologize instead of making excuses and telling us we should be more patient. 90 min plus to get an entree without anyone even checking on us is ridiculous. The idea that we paid a lot of money just to feel so stressed with all the mishaps really saddens me to no end and these people could care less. Maybe that's what happens after doing the same job for so long. We've been here in PS over 15 years and strongly believe in supporting our local establishments. This one is one of the very few we finally have to cut ties with and I'm sure they could care less. Thank goodness for all the other great options

Annette B.

Yelp
The food here was SUPERB!!! I really enjoyed everything that I ordered--especially the Wiener schnitzel. The staff here are so incredibly kind and inviting and the view from their outdoor dining area is lovely. My only complaint here is that the server I had was not very attentive. I also really didn't want to order dessert because I wanted to head out after spending quite a while waiting for her to check in on me; she nonetheless came back with a dessert menu and I spent more time sitting there with it. Otherwise, I really enjoyed this restaurant and found the food to be top-notch!

Luis S.

Yelp
A lovely place, can be a bit loud. Food is ok if you like over fried veal. Service is friendly but you got to wait, not enough servers. My issue is ever since we moved to the desert over a year ago there hasn't been any restaurant, any food market, any establishment at all hadn't denied us to bring our dog, and they have an outdoor patio. That is not service oriented and accommodating establishment. Not planning to visit them anytime ever.

Mylesha D.

Yelp
Getting there: Located on the corner of Arenas and Indian Canyon, you can find street parking nearby or you can park in the parking garage off of Baristo and Indian Canyon; the restaurant is a short walk from the parking garage. Experience: This is another restaurant that I always walk by and never thought to eat there until a few friends invited me out for dinner. The inside is small but super cute. I started off with their white sangria, which was a little on the sugary side but still refreshing. We also ordered I ordered the kobe beef wagyu for dinner. It was really good, but it was basically like a hamburger without the bun. I definitely would come back to try their other menu items.

Brandis S.

Yelp
I had an overall great experience at Johannes. The service was quick and maybe the friendliest that I have EVER experienced! Big shout out to the host that made my night just by being himself. The prices on the menu were extremely high, but I was aware of this in advance given how expensive everything is in Palm Springs. I ordered my food and it was brought to my table within 5 minutes max! Very impressive. My Wiener schnitzel was extremely plain, and while I typically enjoy mine plain with a squeeze of lemon, the breading lacked enough flavor to make this as amazing as others I've had. It did have a buttery taste, which was pleasant. The fingerling potatoes were undercooked, but it didn't matter to me because I wasn't very hungry and the schnitzel itself was huge. What was surprisingly amazing though, was the cucumber salad! It was simple, just thinly sliced cucumbers in a creamy dill sauce, was really delicious and added a great flavor to the meal. I'd love to return to taste the jagerschnitzel (with the mushroom sauce) or the seafood.

Shery P.

Yelp
Overall, I would recommend this restaurant. The mussels were amazing 5/5, the tuna tartare could have used more flavor 3/5, the scallops were extraordinary 6/5, and the filet was ok....good quality of meat and cooked perfectly medium rare. However, the sauce was not my favorite 3.5/5. The servers were nice and I enjoyed the bistro type atmosphere. I would definitely come back for the mussels and scallops!

Matt S.

Yelp
Having eaten here twice and have really enjoyed the Wiener schnitzel. We have the profiteroles, and they were amazing. Reservations are a must!

Arthur S.

Yelp
What an incredible disappointment. We live full time in Rancho Mirage and have been to all the excellent restaurants in the valley and couldn't wait to try Johannes. Very disappointing. Let's start with the fact that it was my wife's birthday and I informed them of this. The so-so meal ended and nothing in the way of recognition, a cupcake with a candle would have been acceptable. Instead there was nothing but, "so sorry, please accept my apologizes." As someone who has been in the hosptiality industry, it's a sign of lack of customer service caring. Oh and as to the food, the Shnitzel was nothing more than okay with quantity taking the place of quality. The fried oysters were awful. I doubt that there will be an apology. I don't think they care.

Phil J.

Yelp
We ended eating at Johannes twice, in our week in Palm Springs! Very good food. Reminded my husband of his time living in Austria. The duck was AMAZING! The spatzle was ok.

Kimberley H.

Yelp
Dinner here was phenomenal. We had their preset dinner during Christmas. The staff were so friendly and helpful. My wine suggestion with my meal paired so nicely with it and added to the tastiness of the meal. Their specialty drinks were amazing!!! Definitely will go back and try their regular menu.

Patricia M.

Yelp
Let me start by saying that on the multiple occasions I've been to Johannes, my experience with both the food and services has been 4+ to 5. I am writing this review to provide a heads up to those who may have a desire to order a cocktail calling for Belvedere vodka. When the bill came for our party of 4 there was an up charge of $16! in ADDITION to the $18 charge for the martini. I suspected a mistake but when I asked the server she indicated the charge was accurate and that, in fact, it was 'normal for the area.' That has not been my experience anywhere locally or otherwise. In addition, it would have been appropriate to advise us ahead of time of such a charge.

Logan J.

Yelp
We did research before our travels on where to eat and this place came up a couple times. This place did not diss appoint and definitely should have higher ratings than the 4.5 we saw online... We both started with an Au Pear Martini that was sweet and strong with ample pear flavor. For an appetizer we had the Meatballs that are sitting in a curry sauce with toasted almonds. So many flavors bursting at once it's an experience!!! We had excellent service from Beth who helped us decide on our entrees. I got the chicken Lemon Caper schnitzel... Wow! And she told us about a special the beef stew which was essentially huge chunks of filet mignon in a Demi glaze reduction with delicious potatoes. I cannot believe how delicious that stew was! We ended up sharing because we both enjoyed each others meals that much!!! For desert we had to choose the Apple Strudel since it was an Austrian themed menu. I am so In love with this place! Cannot wait to return to Palm Springs In a couple months. We Will Be back!

Michael T.

Yelp
Excellent! Greatly appreciate the service as well as the amazing food! Definitely going back!

John W.

Yelp
Food was good but overpriced, the prices have gone way up, bread is $8.00, you don't get bread with dinner, paying $18.00 for mushroom soup and no bread, we paid $260.00 plus tip for three and only had one glass of red wine, was over$300. For dinner, a little pricey, can only go there for an occasion.

Henriette V.

Yelp
We had spend some time in Vienna in March and really wanted Schnitzel, so we went to Johannes. I am sad to say, whatever was on our plate will pass as Schnitzel with anyone who never had the real thing. But what we got was deplarable. The meat was dried out and tough - the fingerling potatoes, artfully put on top of the Schnitzel looked and tasted like they were warmed up in a microwave. The cucumber salad was delicious but it was maybe scant 1/2 cup. We had a bottle of Gruner Veltiner wine which was ok. For dessert we had the strudel which was good, especially since it came with delicious freshly whipped cream. Service was great, ambiance is ok if you like a room that resembles a modern business cafeteria. Pricepoint is not too high by Palm Springs standards, however for the money we spend at Johannes we can get much better food and ambiance in a lot of places.

Vince R.

Yelp
It really hurts me to write this review but I have to. I love this place and I usually always get the same dish. I do wanna say that there is one server there that I find very rude. I always try to make sure I do not get her as my server because she just lacks personality. The bartender is awesome and has always been. Even the new staff they have including the matrie d' is a superb replacement of the previous one. This particular server is one of their oldest staff member and I am sure she earned her spot but she puts her opinions over a guests request in a very rude way. I am sure she this ks she is being prefession but only if she could hear herself she would know how rude she sounds. example: I bring in friends or clients here a lot. I have done this many times that if we are not ready to order yet since we are still catching up, I will order few appetizer to get things started. That way when we will be ready to order entree we are still moving things smoothly and not holding our table for more than we need to. I do this knowing that they are always booked and I don't want to hold on to a table for more than I have to. I never had that issue with anyone else. And I am sure they appreciate the gesture behind it. This particular server told me that she couldn't do that and she will have to take our entire order together because that's how they do it. Well even though I wanted to tell her what I wanted to I didn't. So we placed the order once we were all ready. We got our appetizer. We finished it, chit chatting. She came and asked us if we were ready to have them start our dinner. In my head I am thinking why she hasn't done that yet. We finished our dinner and she comes right away and ask as for dessert. We said no. She dropped off the check almost in lightning speed. I pay. We are finishing up our conversation. She the come and tells me that there are guests waiting to be seated and we are holding up the table. The friends I was treating that night were surprised. I just played it off as snooty pm springs thing and laughed it off. If she followed the procedure properly we could have left there in a decent time. I spent over $600 for 4 of us that night and that is the treatment I got. Any other place would treat us way better. I no longer take large parties there to avoid that situation. I definitely tell friends and people ask me about this establishment to avoid that server (by name but I chose not to mention her name here). I still go there but make sure I don't get her as my server. Maybe owners should look into that. I know you are well established but now I am taking bigger groups to other restaurants but I would rather come here since I do like your place a lot.

Yelp
Can I get a hell to the YES! Truly, what a pleasant surprise this restaurant turned out to be for me and my party. The GOOD: - The first bite of my crispy duck was unforgettable. My husband and my BFF looked at me after that first bite because I couldn't help but say aloud, "Mmmmm, this is good." But, as the food started to cool, the crispiness faded and it wasn't as enjoyable. - My husband got the Caper-lemon chicken schnitzel and he loved it. I tried it as well, and I approved! - My BFF got the peppercorn veal schnitzel and he enjoyed it as well. And yes, I liked it too. It was flavorful but it wasn't too flavorful if that makes sense?! - I love the ambiance in there; it has an artsy vibe. - The service is excellent! Could be BETTER? - The Orange Cinnamon Chipotle Infused Chocolate Mousse sounds epic, BUT IT'S NOT NOT. - My hubs got the special dessert - brownie sandwich, nothing spectacular here though. I am thinking about coming back here tomorrow night, just before we set sail to SF.

Yelp
Johannes Palm Springs! Put this on your list for a beautiful European dinner out on the town -- located at the corner of S. Indian Canyon and Arenas road so you can continue your special night out at the local's vibrant Gay scene! Features modern European cuisine from Austrian born Chef/Owner Johannes Bacher with an "upscale casual ambiance". We loved their appetizer specials: salmon, caviar and beet salad, accompanied by Cheese Spätzeln - sautéed house made noodles melted In gruyere & fontina cheese with wild arugula, crispy onions, & chives My main entree was off the "Schnitzel Lover's Menu -- Veal" Jäger - wild mushroom bacon red wine sauce, roasted parslied fingerling potatoes, cucumber In dill sour cream dressing, cranberry jelly, lemon Finished off with Apple Strudel - vanilla sauce, raspberry hearts, whipped cream https://johannespalmsprings.com/

Yelp
That Lady was up for some schnitzel, of all things, so she suggested that we revisit Johanne's in the Downtown area of Palm Springs. It is a lovely restaurant with a stylish, if not somewhat whimsical interior moldings and decor finishes. The hostess Barrie, seated us and took our order for French Martinis. We found her knowledge of her cellar exceptional and you can rely upon her for pairings of wine and food, once she knows your preferences. That Lady was stylishly dressed for a cool evening and I could not keep my eyes off of her, as our hostess left our table. Conversation flowed over cocktails and as we finished our drinks our first course appeared. We both enjoyed their endive salad, followed by our entrees (That Lady's Schnitzel with lemon and capers and I the Norwegian Halibut), both were absolutely delicious. Both dinners were paired with German white wines. Being a sucker for apple strudel I can recommend theirs. That Lady decided on fruit with sorbets. With each return this establishment just seems to get better and show another hand of its culinary magic.

Yelp
Great outdoor dining experience at Johannes. Our server was lovely and she gave us great info about the menu options. We started with the shrimp cocktail and escargot. The escargot is already out of the shell so now awkward pretty woman experience. Ha. Two out four of us tried schnitzel as it's a specialty. Everyone enjoyed them. I ordered the appetizer mussels and a side of fries for my entree. I really enjoyed the coconut broth and dunking my fries. I am always a fries gal. Overall a fantastic food and service experience with pretty Mountain View's too.

Yelp
Outstanding dining experience on every level. Excellent service from the attentive staff that's not intrusive or aloof. Food was delivered hot. The chicken schnitzel is amazing and I can't wait to go back again. Meatballs are divine. It's all prepared and served with pride. Make a reservation because it gets very busy. 5 stars for sure!

Yelp
We loved our dinner here. We came here on our first trip to Palm Springs in a while. The service was impeccable and the food was divine. We had the escargots for our appetizer and were so happy that they weren't all chewy and rubbery. They know how to cook them. Loved the mushroom soup as well! The dessert trio was amazing. We ate it too quickly though! The Kobe chopped steak? Yum! We are far from Palm Springs now, but we'll always remember the amazing dinner we had at Johannes.

Yelp
Best Schnitzel around. Especially the beautifully pounded thin and tender chicken schnitzel with lemon caper sauce. The chef is Viennese so he knows what he's doing. The staff is always warm and friendly, the food is the best in town. Try the Shaved Brussels Sprouts salad...just ask hot a little more dressing...it's fantastic! The bar is tended by the nicest young lady and I cannot recommend this restaurant more.
