The best French bread you can ever purchase. Every time I visit home, I have to bring back 3–6 loaves. The customer service is A1. I will always return to this place whenever I head back home.

I love this French bread, don't get me wrong, I like Leidenheimer, but I love this one. The addition of the sesame makes a huge difference and the loaves being a little wider makes for a better PoBoy. This place needs to be protected at all costs, a true treasure of New Orleans.

It doesn’t get any better than this. Born and raised in New Orleans. The French bread here can never be completely explained on just how it’s different than any other French bread I have ever eaten. It’s crunchy yet tender taste and feel in your mouth after coming out of the oven melts in your mouth! It’s good plain, with butter, with garlic & butter, or with anything you put on it. Trying it is the only way to know what I’am talking about. This place deserves a “10” star rating 5 just isn’t good enough.

This is the backbone of my favorite Nola must haves, the muffuletta! Fond memories of Cochon Butcher and their version made with in-house made charcuterie and this amazing bread!

Gendusa has the best French bread around. And the price is unbeatable. Takes me back to my childhood when we would take the ends of the bread and toast it with butter. If you want genuine frechbread Gendusa is the place to go.

Bread is never warm, so how fresh you know it is, but it is ok..

We always buy our poboys from perino's seafood in Marrero, the bread is so good I finally had to ask where did they get their bread from. They said from Gendusa's bakery.....just want to let you know for my taste buds Gendusa makes the finest French bread around, bar none. Thanks Gendusa the your fine quality product....Mr. B..

A Gentilly tradition Always Naturally Nawlins. Nicest bakery guys Just roll up knock on the door and they'll sell you restaurant quality beads, French bread $1.50, bag of pistolettes about 15 for $3 and baby muffuletta bread by the bag, The earlier the better bc after 2-3pm its sporadic They sell to the neighborhood but main objective is selling/delivering to local restaurants, Sat is ok til 1-2 then they run out but they've worked with me I told them then tell me when I'll come bk by 6-7pm they had more of everything but No Sundays even if they're working they're not selling, but pistolettes/french bread sells out fast Earlier the Better, best in town...

Love their French bread. (Best in New Orleans). Great for non New Orleans sandwiches like Philly cheese steak or Chicago Italian beef.

I love the Gendusa Bakery. They don't sell their bread retail, yet if you walk by and door is open, they'll gladly sell you as many loaves as you want. For a whole $1.50 a loaf. John Gendusa was the originator of the fluffy loaf of bread with flat ends that Bennie and Clovis Martin used in their poboy sandwiches given out free to the striking streetcar engineers in 1929. They're still the best and used by numerous restaurants, including the takeout shop right about the corner, Zimmer's Seafood, which has one of the best shrimp poboys I have tasted. The Gendusa bakery opened in 1922 and has been operating at the Mirabeau Avenue location since 1996.

Someone actually wrote a review saying the bread goes stale really quickly. Sometimes it's embarrassing to be an American. That's what fresh bread does. That's with no preservatives and Baker's yeast and fluffy and delicious light puffy wonder baking is like. Omg ! It has a downside it doesn't stay fresh for 12 days. Fortunately people in New Orleans still have some European in their blood which is why there are places like Gendusa's flourishing in our neighborhoods- just like other parts of the civilized world - but not Ohio. Yeah it goes stale after six hours which is why there's bread putting and home made croutons But oh those first six hours! One a home smoked shrimp Po boy. Thank you Gendusas

This bread is awesome!!!! I had a po boy at Giorlandos and the bread made the Po Boy!!! My wife had the Muffaletta and that was the bread was Gendusa as well; perfect flavor!!!

I went to a Restaurant Supplier Convention back in the early 1980's. I tried every poyboy bread there and John Gendusa was the the absolute best. I continued to buy from them for the next 15 years that I was in the restaurant business in New Orleans. I didn't know it at the time but this is where they poyboy bread was invented, everyone else just copies the original.
