The 31 Best Restaurants In The Hamptons 2024 - New York - The Infatuation

"If summer to you sounds like lobster rolls and delicious fried things you can eat with your hands, you’ll be very happy at this super casual spot in Westhampton, the first seafood spot on the highway entering the Hamptons (and the last if you’re heading back). Google
The only place to eat in the Dunes .. so it could be crowded.. we went on a weekday so there is no line but the place is still buzzling.. great place to watch the sunset! food was okay.. my husband love the coffee burger.. something we haven't tried before.. fish and chips are okay but not over the top, might order something else if we come back! service is good.. valet parking 👍🏽

Google
Always a good time and it's the only bar on Dune Road near Cupsogue. Valet parking and laid back service with a view. Go have fun and enjoy and tell Julia we said hi, she's a great bartender! Tell em Barsnobs sent ya! Another amazing time at JS! Cool vibes and delicious summer drinks. Tell em Barsnobs sent ya!

Brought a group of friends and their kids for an early dinner. Great place to watch the sunset. The picnic tables and the live music made it a great place to bring kiddos to run around while waiting for dinner to come. Food was solid, drinks were good, but atmosphere is a unique setting!

If you had to ask me what my favorite all time restaurant is in the entire world, my answer would be John Scott’s Surf Shack. They are seasonal so they are normally open from the first Friday in May to the last Saturday of September, however their dates vary so make sure to check their social media outlets for details. For their 2024 season, they opened on Friday May 3rd, and of course I had to go on opening day. We arrived around 5p and it wasn’t busy yet. The parking lot is small, very small, and there is no parking on Dune Road so they hire a valet service. Since we got there before the rush, we parked our own car, but as we were leaving, we noticed that someone time in between they started their valet service. During peak times, there is often a line of cars waiting on the shoulder to be parked, but you have to wait with your vehicle, and the restaurant will not seat you until your entire party has arrived and parked. We sat outside in the sun overlooking the bay. As the sun set, we did get a little cold so be prepared for chilly times, even in warmer weather. We ordered so much food for their opening night (four people in total sharing everything). This included the following: -Surf Shack Famous Wings, 2x -Firecracker Shrimp -French Fries with Old Bay seasoning -Cajun Calamari -Popcorn Shrimp Wrap -Tijuana Chicken -Baja Fish Tacos -Fish and Chips Their chicken wings for opening night were the best chicken wings I’ve ever had from John Scott’s. I’m in love with their buffalo sauce however they are normally lacking in the quality of the wing itself. But this night, out of the world hence the two orders of them. On their ‘secret menu’ we ordered the basket of fries with old bay seasoning, and this is the best with fries, no ketchup for dipping even needed. My favorite thing on their menu is the firecracker shrimp. This has a Thai chili glaze and just bursts in flavor. On this day, two people finished the plate in less than 5 minutes. The popcorn shrimp wrap comes with wing sauce inside and we ordered extra on the side for dipping. 10/10! The fish and chips was new to me personally.. and I believe it was cod. But that coconut beer batter is something I don’t know how I lived without. The Cajun calamari was different but in a great way, and would order again. I didn’t taste the Tijuana chicken or the Baja fish tacos. For a drink I had a dirty Shirley and a Kona big wave on tap. Overall, my favorite place and will always continue to come back.

Google
Perfect spot for a quick bite w/ great ambiance & delicious food! The outdoor deck had plenty of seating (and SHADE!) with great views of the water. Service was very quick and attentive. Prices were great considering the location. I ordered the clam chowder and a quahog - both hit the mark. The chowder was rich and perfectly New England style; the stuffed quahog was classic Cape Cod style - toasty on top but soft on the inside.

Sat outside, service food and atmosphere was great. I would visit again and recommend here if you want to have a relaxed feeling.

Google
Parking lot was nearly empty, and valet yelled at us for parking ourselves and told us they were working and demanded tips. Then when we asked for a valet ticket they said “don’t worry, we’ll remember your face” we left and went down the road to another place to spend our money

Michael T.

Google
We expect to wait a bit without a reservation. So we'll eat at the bar or in that area. The waitstaff, Eileen, set us up with chairs that had backs to save our backs. When the skies opened up, everyone entered the bar area, and we were happy to have seats with backs. The special, scallops was perfect, as was the attention and service.

Yelp
A solid fried fish shack located right off dune road. This is not the place to get a fancy hamptons cocktail or high-end seafood, but if you want a beer (or my personal favorite... a cheesy frozen vacay drink like a piña colada) and a tasty quahog and wedge salad while you listen to some live music and chill in the sun, this is a great spot. Be prepared for long lines for parking if you come in the evenings but they have valets who make it go super fast.

Yelp
Visiting lifelong friends in the Hamptons. They recommended this restaurant for lunch. Great choice! Seated promptly in an upbeat manner. Mike, our server was friendly, made good recommendations, and seemed to genuinely inquire about our meal and if we were doing well. Quohouge was tasty, not too bready. Fish tacos were fresh tasting and loaded with fish. The corn-based slaw was refreshingly delicious. I had a lobster with drawn butter, a potato, and corn on the cob. All delicious. I enjoyed some of my wife's crab cakes ... and highly recommend. Montaik draft beer, I think, was tasty. Thanks Mike (see photo) for making a really good meal better!

Yelp
Drinks were great, coconut shrimp and clam chowder was fabulous. The lobster roll, disappointed.

Yelp
Typical fried seafood joint. Prices are on par for the area. If you're looking for a place with a water view, you'll find that here but at a distance. The only reason I took off a star is because I got a gnarly sunburn. Before being seated, the hostess mentioned that they only available seat they had was in the sun. We were seated at pretty much the only table without an umbrella.

Anthony C.

Yelp
The Lobster Roll is excellent ! The tap beer is cold. The bar is like being in Key West. Nice crowd. It's a summertime place. Reminds me of Cyril's ......( MTK).
google avatar

Lizzy K.

Yelp
A local gem, always packed, always a long line for the parking lot. That speaks for itself. When you are here, you are part of the WHB community - years worth of tradition - you know everything is good on the menu. Friendly staff, summer vibes, a must go. No frills, just straightforward delicious, fresh seafood. Order the lobster roll with French fries with or without the old bay.

Dennis J.

Yelp
Great casual place that's kid friendly. Only reason it didn't get 5 stars was that we had to wait 25 minutes for waiter to approach our table. Notified hostess and bus man after 15 minutes and it still took 10 more minutes until he showed up. Food and drinks worth waiting for!
google avatar

Yelp
Kate was beyond amazing. She took care of my whole crew and even though there was a mixup, she handled it like a professional seriously this girl save the fucking day.
google avatar

Rocco C.

Yelp
Amazing scenery Cajun chicken wrap was delish $15 for a daiquiri should come with mid shelf alcohol not that funky stuff where you look at the label 5 times when it's being poured Still an amazing summer vibe place
google avatar

Rachael T.

Yelp
I can eat 10 of these they are so good. It's the stuffed quahog. The other food is ok to me but you can't beat the vibe of this placed
google avatar

Rose Marie O.

Yelp
Four stars is for our Server, Nick and the food. The hostess is miserable. Maybe she's overworked like everyone in the restaurant business this summer? Tables are empty and people are sitting outside waiting to be seated. Minimum of an hour to sit and wait. Bring the bug spray! Great fries!
google avatar

Charles S.

Yelp
i was there this evening and had the best time. we got there close to the dining room closing and rhiannon couldn't be kind and helpful getting us food. whoever is her supervisors would be really proud to have her on their side. she is really great at her job. then we had the pleasure of being served by chris and devin. they too could not of been more kind and helpful and courteous. we loved the food and we appreciated the entire staff. thank them for us. they are great for the surf brand.
google avatar

Susie H.

Yelp
Best lobster rolls in the Hamptons. $44 this season but they were really good. Highly recommend
google avatar

Erin B.

Yelp
Good food, great drinks, best vibe/view. Cajun calamari was absolutely delicious, has a kick to it. Bowl of shrimp was SO GOOD, but different. It wasn't spicy, but great so the spices don't get your nails dirty. Best part was the vibe. It is super laid back with the games like cornhole to play in the back. Yes it's the hamptons, but it's still nice to just relax. Only negative - parking. Walk if you can. Very small parking lot and may have to wait

Victoria S.

Yelp
It's what you expect but the view isn't as nice. This place has alot more potential than it's using but it's fine for shack food & quick lunch. Servers very friendly.

Timothy W.

Yelp
Just spent the nicest afternoon with the owner of this fabulous, timeless surf shack. I recommend coming here to hang... In fact, it's worth a drive from wherever you are to come spend time with these people. The kind of atmosphere we all search for!
google avatar

Zach G.

Yelp
Really solid seafood, really solid vibe. I've had better pina coladas elsewhere but I probably shouldn't have ordered it. Will go back every time. Get the lobster roll.

Jackie R.

Yelp
The perfect place for a cold beer on a hot day post Cupsogue. Stopped by for a beer on way home. Sat at bar. Friendly and v attentive bar staff. Love that when your beer is 3/4 done they immediately ask if you need another. Wings were great. Atmosphere made me smile. Not stuffy Hamptonite. Fun. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Sarah N.

Yelp
I really hate writing negative reviews on small places like this but for the only spot on the entire road, they need to do better . Food was on par with bad hospital food. The coconut flavored food is only coated with coconut oil and thrown in a fryer. chowder fries is slop on top of pretty basic frozen shoestring fries. Service never checked on us after our food had to track the waitress down for our check 20 mins after finishing and table was cleared. and it still took her an incredibly long time to get it over to us. People seated right across from us left full plates of food.
google avatar

Stephanie H.

Yelp
This place rules. The best little dive in the world. Get the fish tacos.

Sarah T.

Yelp
The food is pretty consistent, great view and service. Love the old bay fries and crab specials.
google avatar

Shannon T.

Yelp
Fun laid back atmosphere. Food is great and so is service! Lots of drink options. Cajun Calamari are a must order- lightly breaded and friend perfectly (not too chewy) the Cajun seasoning is light but enough that it can be tasted and is a fun twist on a classic. So good The New England clam chowder exceeded expectation. My boyfriend is extremely picky about chowder but tries it everywhere and was delighted to eat every drop of this. I don't normally love chowder and I really enjoyed this one!!! Shrimp tacos are a decent sized portion and delicious!! Burger was just okay- but fries were great!
google avatar

T G.

Yelp
Been coming here since before 2002. The lobster roll and stuffed quahog is my go to. Best on LI. Laid back atmosphere with none of the glory glam types who go out to Montauk and Southampton. Anyone who leaves a negative review is probably high maintenance and thinks they deserve anything whenever they want. If you are looking for a chill lunch spot or after beach dinner/drinks spot this is the place. It gets packed and I actually like that they don't take reservations it's one of the only places that does this. The staff is great and like I said I've been coming here for a long time. It's my favorite beach bar/beach bar restaurant of all time.
google avatar

Martin T.

Yelp
Very cool place in Westhampton Beach. We stopped after our trip to Montauk Lighthouse and had some calamari, garlic shrimp and shrimp tacos. Fast friendly service, calamari was overdone but good and the garlic shrimp with rice and shrimp tacos were a hit! Fresh and tasty. We will be back! Oh and an added bonus Dune Rd. is amazing.

Yelp
What a scam and a disappointment. Been coming here my whole life for dinner, and more recently for the nightlife over the past few years. This year it seems John Scott's has completely sold out. Arrived at 9:45pm and waited in a cold, dark line in the parking lot for TWO HOURS and never saw one person from the line getting let in at the entrance. Yet mysteriously, people who were in line behind us magically appeared inside the bar, along with anyone who pulled up in a Porsche or Mercedes. I'm convinced the line is a scam to create the illusion of demand, meanwhile the staff will let in anyone who rolls up to the side entrance who might have a little extra to give in addition to the TWENTY DOLLAR cover. Ended up leaving at 12am after wasting 2 hours of my time on line to NOT get into a place I used to love. This is not a high end bar with ample amenities. This is not an exclusive club. This is a dive in the middle of nowhere. The only reason it gets this crowded is because it's one of about two bars in the area for a younger crowd. Save your money. Save your time. RIP John Scott's. The locals will miss the old you.

Yelp
Grabbed lunch at John Scott's Surf Shack on Thursday afternoon. A mixed bag in terms of food, but isn't a bad spot to enjoy a drink when visiting Cupsogue Beach. Quality: We ordered the Blackened Shrimp Tacos and the Lobster Roll to share. The Blackened Shrimp Tacos were just okay. Filled with house slaw, field greens, pico de gallo and smoky garlic lime sauce with corn salsa on the side, they just seemed to be overloaded and leaving a muddled flavor. The Lobster Roll was better, but still had issues. That issue was certainly not the mounds of delicious lobster, which I was a big fan of. It was the pathetic piece of bread it was served on and the less than thrilling fries. Quantity: The Lobster Roll is absolutely massive and stuffed with tons of lobster. The Blackened Shrimp Tacos come with two, which is a substantial lunch. Value: $15 for the Blackened Shrimp Tacos. $32 for the Lobster Roll with Fries. Ambiance: John Scott's Surf Shack is a small bar and seafood spot overlooking the bay in Westhampton Beach. It is one of the few restaurants in the area, and it has an okay view of the water, even though it is actually quite a distance away. They have a ton of outdoor seating with a covered patio, a raised porch, and open area tables with umbrellas. It was unclear to me if they were allowing folks to eat inside yet as most folks requested outside, but it did seem like they were ready. The music was expected soft rock and the vibe was very relaxed. Crowd: Despite arriving before they opened, we weren't even the first ones. The entire outdoor seating area was filled before we finished eating and this was on a rainy weekday afternoon. Service: Sat us and took our order before they technically opened and had the food out insanely fast. They also were quick to offer a different table as it started to drizzle. Parking: Large stone parking lot in front of restaurant.

Yelp
I think the food was very good. I had a lobster roll and french fries. Delicious my husband had fish tacos. Delicious. The only reason I didn't give it Five stars was it was the worst Margarita I ever had in my life. I don't know why bartenders can't make a decent margarita.
google avatar

Julia T.

Yelp
Frozen food for 100x market price. Gross and bad service to, what a shame! The chef was just not on it today or he's given really bad supplied to work with. Miniature shrimp and wrong fish in the tacos
google avatar

Ted L.

Yelp
Enjoyed the Lobster Roll with chunks of meat that could probably fill 2 rolls served back in the city. Side order of Shoestring fries were nice and crispy. Service was average and come to consider during these pandemic days where you don't get to have chatty conversations with the service. Overall, nice and enjoys experience on our stay in Westhampton.

Lauren A.

Yelp
Great seafood shack. We had fish tacos, baked clams and fish(made in coconut oil yum!!!). Kid friendly.
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
Basically the last old school bar left in WHB. The fish tacos are some of the best I've had. The batter has some coconut flavor to it, and the corn salsa is outstanding. Firecracker shrimp is a really big serving and well worth it, although the sauce tastes just a touch processed. Lobster roll looks good but at $39 I have yet to try it. Highly recommend the rum punch to wash it all down!
google avatar

Julio V.

Yelp
I've been wanting to stop by this place for two years now. The service was excellent, the beer was cold and fresh and the portions were tasty and generous. They had plenty of outdoor seating and a cool breeze flowing through on a hot day. I drank Montauk Wave Crasher IPA on tap and it was super fresh, cold and satisfying. I ordered the Firecracker Shrimp which was crispy and delicious and Calamari which was lightly breaded, tender and flavorful. The portions were so generous I couldn't even order anything else which is a shame because all of the food people ordered looked delicious. Don't come here expecting anything fancy. It's called a surf shack for a reason. Just good vibes, good food, cold drinks and good music. So happy I stopped by and will definitely come back again.
google avatar

Roger S.

Yelp
Lobster roll sandwich (or order it over mixed greens if you are low-carbing it), Honey BBQ Wings, Steamers. Drinks. View. Done.
google avatar

Sal M.

Yelp
I get a headache every time I think of this place. As you may or may not know this is the only bar on Dune road in WHB. As so, they operate the place like they're actively trying to provide a bad experience for their customers. The service is usually bad- the bartenders always have an attitude like they're doing you a favor by serving you and your party. They have a $50 minimum for credit cards (this should be telling enough of how much management really doesn't give a f). Every surface of this place is sticky and gross. They have live music that is wayyyy too loud. You can't hear yourself think much less talk with people. The one and only good quality of this place is the location. I wish the city of WHB would allow for another bar on Dune road just so people had a choice. Larry David should strongly consider opening a spite bar next door. I would go every single day!
google avatar

Ray P.

Yelp
Let me start off by saying I love the atmosphere here. The Hamptons is known for fancy restaurants. This is a dive bar that reminds me of NYC. You have a beautiful outdoor seating area with live music at times, a large bar area and plenty of indoor dining. The drinks are pricey at $14 each, but they are strong. If you come here with 2 or more people, a buyback is usually a possibility. The food is very good, priced right, but won't blow you away. The Lobster roll is good, but for $39 you will be very disappointed. This is a great place to visit after a day at the beach.
google avatar

Elsie W.

Yelp
Great atmosphere and service. Love the New England clam chowder. Also, their fries taste and look like McDonald's which are my favorite so that's a compliment. Generous lobster meat on the lobster rolls!

Jess J.

Yelp
The biggest a holes you will ever meet. Bouncers and workers and so extremely disrespectfu. Came from a business they own and had not let us in told us we are allowed to use the bathrooms but you better get "the f out of here" So rude. 4 ladies who are extremely respectful. Staff is so rude i'm so disappointed all we wanted was to eat NOT sit at the bar. Starved us and had us sit outside like animals. No one go here staff is so disrespectful GOOD JOB JOHN SCOTTS!
google avatar

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Went here on Memorial Day and had a really good lobster roll! It was packed with lobster meat. The pieces of meat were really big too. The French fries were nice and crispy. I thought their cocktail list was unique and the ambiance was very cute/summery. Great spot right on Dune rd.
google avatar

Ronni R.

Yelp
Really fun place live music friendly staff sunset views neighborhood place I go all the time
google avatar

Suzanne F.

Yelp
This place is written up in multiple articles as dog friendly. We arrived after chickening dog friendly places on yelp and reading these articles. I still had my husband get out and ask because we are respectful. The staff was not respectful and told my husband no! And if we wanted them tied up Outside the gate we could stay. Really????
google avatar

Katelyn S.

Yelp
The restaurant was overcapacity during a pandemic, not at 50%. patrons were standing around tables most We're not ordering food and just drinking. It seems the staff were selective on who had to order food and who didn't (we were there for Food and drink so that didn't matter). Bouncers on power trips assaulting customers physically and verbally... grabbed a member of my party and ripped the chair out from under him and grabbed him (while complaining about being in a pandemic he was in our 6-foot radius) cursed out a woman of our group (assuming because she filmed the bouncer assaulting the member of our party). Moral of the story would not recommend we've been here many times over the years and not sure where this bouncers power trip came From but it sure ruined my outlook of this Business and I will be sure to tell all my friends with homes out East and who frequent here.

Alexis U.

Yelp
The food was okay, the service was absolute shit. The only thing asked was about my outfit, not the drinks, not the food, not the 4% credit card fee. Had to ask for utensils, and a cup of water, never got a single refill. When we were finished we were asked how is everything, and shortly after given the check, no offers of dessert or the check. Truly was just so inconvenient I would rather go to drive thru than pay for service not given.
google avatar

Yelp
Fun atmosphere, beautiful views and excellent mussels fra diavolo. Recommend lunch or dinner at sunset

Guest U.

Yelp
On Saturday, June 12th I went to John Scott's with a few friends to grab a few drinks and enjoy a nice summer night. I walked up to the bouncer to present my ID and the first words out of the bouncer's mouth were "put that necklace away, you're not getting in with that necklace." Confused, I asked the very large and intimidating man why that is, as I've never heard of a rule like this. For reference, I was wearing a Mezuzah (a Jewish parchment inscribed with religious text) necklace. When I asked the bouncer why this is a rule and that I've never heard of anything like this, he said, "well now you have." Very informative. A second bouncer came to back him up and intimidate me. They claim and pretend that this is just some rule of the establishment, but there were MANY girls and guys visibly wearing necklaces and chains inside. So if that is the rule, why did it not apply to them? Also, I have been here many times over many years and NOT ONCE has anyone ever said anything like this to me. Absolutely disgusted and infuriated my friends and I left. The clear and utter disrespect toward me and my religion as well as the blatant anti-semitism, nonetheless in a community full of Jewish people, seems like it borderlines a hate crime. John Scott's management and staff members: I highly recommend re-evaluating your morals and "rules". They are disgusting. Pathetic and shameful.
google avatar

Jody F.

Yelp
Great spot I. Westhampton Beach with a backyard vibe and a view of the marsh. Lobster roll was the biggest and tastiest I've ever had. Fish and chips was fresh and plentiful. Happy bar staff too.

Melissa N.

Yelp
We love John Scott's! It's a perfect place to bring your kids and casually have lunch or dinner. We go here often!
google avatar

Andrew J.

Yelp
Yesterday, my group was denied entry to John Scott's for their Monday wing special because "Your group doesn't spend enough money". When we arrived at 4:30 with a group of 10 people, most of whom had not attended this restaurant previously were denied entry, we were shocked and appalled. Management didn't rectify this situation and we left and spent our money elsewhere. Needless to say, being denied entry to this establishment was embarrassing for all of us. We will not conduct business here again.

Yelp
Ok...let me hit my joint so I can mellow out before I write this review...Pulling up, the place looked cute. Obviously wasn't expecting a Michelin star dinner. Local scene, cigarette machine, horrible live band which is actually the best part of the experience, place seemed cool. Everything's great! I'm in the Hampton's, I can get into the vibe. Beautiful day, so I'm good. We're in West Hamptons so I'm not expecting Pierre's, let's get that clear. I know what this is. And that's my point. Local cheap bar food. But wait, my bill is $140 for two lobster rolls two glasses of wine and two clams, literally two stuffed subpar clams. I took one bite of the lobster roll and ate half the clam, because I was hungry...I'm done smoking my joint and I don't even care about the money or the food anymore. Whatever, go check it out if you're ever in town. Anyway, about to throw something on the grill.

Theresa K.

Yelp
This is a negative star review. I asked at the door if I could order take out. The girl said yes just go to the bar. I waited at the bar for about 10 min and was told I couldn't order take out. If you can't order take out, do not advertise it.
