Chicago’s Best Soul Food Restaurants | Eater Chicago
"Tri-Taylor isn’t the first neighborhood you’d think of when wanting to check out some of the best home-cooked meals in Chicago. Surprisingly though, it’s worth making the trip to the area if you’re in need of mac and cheese with fried chicken and greens. This is exactly the way you’d expect any auntie would unleash at a family gathering." - Ashok Selvam
This is a great restaurant to get food from. Tons of great options to choose from. I recommend the fried chicken, macaroni, and sweet potatoes. Everything was excellent. The service was great they are really nice people. They take only cash app or cash so come prepared.

The food is amazing. I wrote a review already it shut down for me in the middle of writing the review. So the fact that I came back to make sure that they had the right. should show that this place has an amazing food. Hospitality was amazing a BYOB affair, places and spaces for events. Did I say they have an outdoor patio? Well they do. Right on the corner and off the blue line and highway proximity.
Play my music, have my drink, and eat some good food. I ordered the sauté catfish and broccoli mac & cheese as well yams. YAMMIT it was good. Type of food that makes you hit itis mode directly after. There are a few TVs in the room was on and so they turned the game on and I was able to listen to music and just vibe.
This is clearly area where the minorities were disadvantage so to have a restaurant that has survived 13 years in the mist of all of these changes in the Chicago landscape really shows how dedicated to being a part of the community they are. But I also hate to at the same time because I want them to be able to maintain the higher level of customer service that they have.
The DETROIT lions are 8-1 and playing with a 40 point blow out. Good luck Bears 😈
This is also down the street from the Famous site where the City of …… assassinated the Great Late Chairman Fred Hampton of the Black Panther Party. Will be back.

The food is okay. I think the owners should be more specific about payment methods. The way they treated me was great, asking me if there was music I wanted to listen to and I ate out back. I had their smothered pork chops, and though it was salty I liked it. Dying to try their corn bread next time!

This food was so good. I got the itis after eating it. It was flavored well and seasoned. I ate and watched the game. The owner was friendly. The best food comes from spots that look like this. Def will be on my regular rotation.

Funny, I googled "where can I get some smothered porkchops, greens and mac & cheese NOW?" Johanna Cafe popped up. I got in my car, googled directions 6 minutes away and thought the place was closed because the neighboring establishments were no longer there; however, to my pleasant surprise I went in, asked what was on today's menu and Melanie quoted exactly what I was craving and YES it was good. My tastebuds are satisfied and I have a new nearby soul food option. Thumbs up Johanna's! Signed by Tammi ;-)

I just ordered from Grubhub. I can’t get in touch with the restaurant with any of the numbers provided. The food was amazing until I started choking on a piece of metal wiring or something that was in my macaroni 😩. So disappointing.

It was nice, had a chance to eat on the patio and enjoy some music but had to get home to prepare for the Bear's game. The food was delicious...
