San Francisco Restaurant Ssal Is Serving a Fried Chicken Tasting Menu | Eater SF

"The new Peninsula restaurant from the team behind Doppio Zero is now welcoming diners with a menu that skews toward Italian classics rather than the pizza longtime fans associate with the group. Chef de Cuisine Santiago Avila Gonzalez and corporate chef Antonio Inguscio are helming the kitchen, while co‑founder Angelo Sannino has tailored the wine menu alongside a slew of Negronis and Bellinis." - Paolo Bicchieri

We had the most wonderful time for our family gathering at Johnny & Sanny’s by Doppio Zero. The restaurant itself was spacious with cool interior. The vibe was hip but somewhat warm and homey. The food was delicious and fresh, I personally love the branzino fish. The pasta was al dente, the kids favorite was the squid ink pasta. The pizzas were in different style, we love how thin and crispy it was with plenty of toppings. Don’t forget to try their burrata salad and beef carpaccio for antipasti , they were 👍👍 ! Our waitress was also very lovely and accommodating, overall very recommended 😊

Google
This place is pretty new, so I think they’re still working out the kinks maybe? The food was fine. We tried the ricotta and olive appetizer (which didn’t have a ton of olives honestly) but was tasty. It took a long time for it to come out too. And for our entree we had the spicy sausage pasta, which was tasty but very basic. The food presentation didn’t match the upscale vibe of the restaurant if that makes sense. The staff is super friendly!!

Google
I would like to leave an honest review , so this place will get a deserved at least 4.5 rating on Google. Food is just great, simple, southern Italian with a twist. The octopus carpaccio is 10 out of 10, ricotta with olives is a very soft and deep flavor combination . We ordered fettuccini (light pesto, and what important al-dente pasta ) and lasagna (same perfect one as in doppio zero) which were both great ! The ambience and the thought they put into creating this space is top notch. Definitely come and try, don’t let the soft opening reviews to fool you that this is not a great place. Ciao!

Google
I think it is a relatively new place, so the restaurant itself was clean and looked very nice. The mushroom ravioli was probably my favorite dish, with the zucchini fries being a close second. The margherita pizza was a little bland for my taste, but overall the food was good. The sharing plates were a little on the smaller side. There were lots of open seating and the staff was friendly!

Google
Delicious pizza, entrees, drinks and more! The whipped ricotta is to die for. Atmosphere is lively and welcoming, staff is friendly and attentive. Great for date night & after work drinks, but also families.

Unfortunately, the food was just ok. The service was good and the atmosphere was great but I was hoping for some really good Italian food on Castro. Lots of seating though so perhaps the food will get better since they are quite new.

Google
We were skeptical to try this place (we had just come back from Italy, and another Italian in Mountain View??) but it really exceeded our expectations. The fried calamari was above average, the pear salad was super fresh and delicious, the gnocchi is the one of the best I've tried, and they have a delicious coffee chocolate dessert. Great cocktails and service too, highly recommend.

Google
This is a gorgeous restaurant and the staff are so kind. The tiramisu and blueberry cheesecake were delicious! The other dessert options looked enticing as well. But our entrees were just ok and the brussel sprouts were no good…

Yelp
Very very friendly staff - hosts, waiters, and cleanup crew kept checking in with us in a genuine friendly matter. We went for some appetizers around 6:45PM on a Wednesday night with no wait. Restaurant has a really nice interior and cute outdoor seating options Would highly recommend for a late night outing with friends or date night!

Yelp
I'm a huge fan of Doppio Zero so I was excited to try their sister restaurant. AMBIANCE: Near same terrace + interior as the previous spot (Vida Tapas y Cocteles). I've only ever eaten on the terrace which is wonderful. The interior is cute with nice decor and clean spaces. I believe reservations are needed for larger groups (maybe over 6?) but I haven't needed a reservation for a party of 2-3, even on a weekend. SERVICE: Nothing spectacular nor bad to note here. The staff didn't check in very often nor had any particular recommendations for us when ordering. However, nothing of bad nature to note either. Just neutral. FOOD: While I love Doppio Zero's dishes, here were my thoughts on what we tried. 5/5 - Ravioli: Really liked these mushroom ravioli and its sauce. No notes! 3/5 - Sofia Loren Pizza: This pizza was alright, but the buratta topping seemed like an afterthought. I would've added an olive oil drizzle, a flakey salt, or something to have this cheese pop more in the pizza. 3/5 - Zucchini Fries: These were cut way too thin in my opinion. They weren't able to really retain any of the aioli sauce and the breading felt like it was "falling off the bone". 2/5 - Croquettes: My least favorite of what we ordered. The inside didn't feel warm and I thought the cheese (?) didn't complement the mushroom filling flavor. This is definitely pricey, at $140 w/ tax + tip for a party of 3 (w/ 1 drink). I'm eager to see if their menu or service improves, and I'll come back to update my review.

Yelp
Hmm, hopefully they're still just experiencing startup issues, but I was very underwhelmed by the food and most drinks here. We ordered the zucchini fries, which were extremely limp and not crisp at all. The ravioli was pretty good (hard to go wrong honestly). The branzino was...ok, but the skin was also soft and not crispy, while the flavors were just meh. We also got two drinks each, and the only one that was good was the Rosso Vesuvio. Moonlight was pretty meh, while La Dolce Vita and Mambo Italiano were not just meh but served weirdly warm. I was very disappointed by the food and drinks given their association with Doppio Zero, which is usually great. The service was weird too. Our waitress kept looking at us but not being helpful? Like she surely saw that we were out of water or had finished with the zucchini fries, but chose not to refill the water or take away the fry plate to make room on the table. We also received the ravioli and branzino at the same time, which was disappointing given that we had asked for the dishes to be coursed out, though it wasn't a big enough deal to bring up. The space looks nice. If they can get their act together and make the food and drinks taste better, it'll be a decent dinner spot.

Yelp
Sister restaurant of Doppio Zero with more of a focus on pastas and other things outside of pizza. Pretty spacious spot on Castro in MTV and they have both indoor and outdoor seating but low key it was super hot indoors cuz they didn't have AC on and it was just dead still air. They did end up turning on the AC for us though The bucatini was quite yummy. The sauce was very tangy tomato vibes and there was quite a lot of meat. The bucatini noodles were also a fun texture and it was super bouncy from the perfectly al dente cooking. The margherita pizza was quite yummy as well. The shape of the pizza was more like the Romanian style pinsa (think Montesacro in sf?). The bread was quite tasty and had the nice wood fire smokey flavour.

Yelp
Really solid Italian food!! Fried zucchini w that lemon aioli is a must get. Lamb gnocchi was perfect, and my girlfriend's pasta special was also very tasty. Was too stuffed for dessert, but it looked amazing. Will be back since I live a few blocks away.

Yelp
Walked by Johnny & Sanny, a new restaurant concept by Doppio Zero and really enjoyed it! Looking over the cocktail menu, we both found drinks that spoke to us and more importantly, both of us really enjoyed our choices! For our starter, we went with the fried zucchini which was delivered as a small haystack. We both liked how it was lightly crispy and not over fried. The lemony aioli with the ample amount of cheese also gave each bite a nice acidity with some nutty salty undertones. For entrees, boyfriend got the lasagna which was delicate but very fresh. That tomato sauce was really tasty! I got the branzino which was a show stopper. It was so tender! The garlic lemon olive oil and the fried basil were also perfect accompaniments to each bite. Yes, there are bones to work through but it wasn't terribly difficult to pick out in my opinion. I would absolutely recommend it. There were definitely other options that sounded very good in my opinion. Johnny and Sanny's has that really nice Californian Italian vibe. Plus, sitting outside on a warm MV evening? Sprinkles on top.

Yelp
Wow! So the previous restaurant in this location was awful so I'm not surprised it's gone. I didn't have the highest of hopes for this new place until I saw it's by the Doppio Zero guys. Very pleasantly surprised. The pasta was fresh, the sauces were delicious, the bread was amazing. Service was also excellent. Their menu is what I would call new or Californian Italian. Loved everything we tried here. Will definitely be returning!

Yelp
A friend and I stopped by to try out this new restaurant to Castro St. We were welcomed by the staff who were friendly and attentive. We were seated near the back in the booths which was a fun setting. My friend and I ordered zucchini fries which came with a basil aioli and the funghi pizza. The fries were fun to eat but were a bit soggy which isn't too surprising. The pizza was disappointing as the dough ratio to the toppings were off and a bit disappointing.

Yelp
Pretty solid food with great happy hour deals!!! So many cheap appetizers that are very filling; I could eat them as an entree. I loved the grandma's meatballs and fried calamari appetizers. For entrees, the rib eye steak was definitely my favorite. I wasn't the biggest fan of the chicken parm or carbonara. I've definitely had better. The sides of broccolini and garlic fries were so yum and addicting to eat! Service was great!! We were checked up on and they helped us rearrange the table to fit all the food. The place itself was so clean and a great date night spot in downtown mountain view.

Yelp
Huge fan of Doppio Zero so was quite excited to see that they opened up a new restaurant on Castro Street! Came here for happy hour, thought the deals were terrific. I had the broccolini crostino and little gem salad, both of which were quite solid. Also appreciated the bread basket on the house. Attentive service, and really cute decor inside the restaurant. Curious to try their main dishes to see how it compares to DZ!

Yelp
Step into retro Italian supper club vibes here, a brand new gem in downtown Mountain View. The interior is simply gorgeous. I love the different themes in the different areas of the restaurant, especially the room projecting a retro black & white movie while you dine. Pasta is a must! We ordered the chef's favorites Grandmother Lasagna, loved the layers and strong and flavorful tomato sauce. Sanny's Mafaldine was spicy and rich, the squiggly noodles picked up the sauces so well. I also really enjoyed my drink- Meloncello (gin, melon liqueur, & various fruits) plus it's so fun watching the bartenders make the drinks We ended on a high note with their fluffy and creamy tiramisu. Whether it's a date night or girls' night, this spot is seriously bringing Italy to the Bay.

Yelp
Super friendly and nice employees. It was day 6 for them when we came by. We had outdoor seating and the patio heater was lit when we sat down but then it went out. We were at the end of our meal but they happily moved a new tank and relit it for us. We had the malfadine carbonara, it's their homemade, long curly ribbon shaped pasta with ruffled edges to hold the sauce better. The homemade noodles had a little bite to it. It wasn't too soft or too heavy. The carbonara sauce was ok. It was made from guanciale - pork. It's soft not crispy like bacon or pancetta. I've tried for years to get my carbonara sauce just right. The carbonara sauce here was good, not lumpy. I don't think the flavor was strong enough for me. They added cheese at the table but I like a lot of cheese and pepper. The malfadine con salsiccia was spicy sausage, Calabrian chilies, tomato topped with basil ricotta was not overly spicy. The noodles were different from most pasta places. It was good. Neither dish was so great that we had to come back and have it again but we would try other dishes. My son loved his chicken parmigiana and I actually preferred his side of spaghetti over my carbonara and lucky me, he preferred my carbonara more than his side of spaghetti. The lava cake was normal lava cake with ice cream. We like the pink packets of sweet & low for our ice tea. They thought they had it but they did not and gave us an option to switch drinks but we stayed with the yellow Splenda. If you drink iced tea with a sweetener, you can taste the difference. Super great crew! No specials since they just open. We hope to come back.

Yelp
Food our party of 4 ordered: -calamari (came out nice & hot, batter was light & crispy but maybe missing a lil seasoning so the aioli added a nice flavor) -chicken Milanese (crispy & tender but lacked a lil flavor for me) -chicken parm (good amount of sauce & cheese, really tasty) -malfadine (with spicy sausage; served with spinach ricotta & delicious) Service was great, Nick was very attentive & helpful. Loved the decor, it's modern chic. Will definitely be back to try the other apps & entrees I was eyeing!

Yelp
Beautiful place with incredibly friendly staff, but we left a bit unsatisfied. I had high hopes for this place as I am a big fan of their pizzeria but I left desiring a bit more. Though I will say they do cook their pasta to the perfect aldente.

Yelp
An extension of the wonderful Doppio Zero, I was invited for an event they hosted for meeting planners and I was lucky to meet one of the owners, Johnny (Gianni). Johnny was very friendly as well as his staff that were working. Maria was our server and she helped guide us along on what drinks to try. We tried the: - Pornstar (don't care for the name but this was a crowd fave! Nice and foamy - La Dolce Vita (old fashioned with a banana twist. The banana syrup softens the bite without being too sweet) - Meloncello - so so good. - Lychee Amore - among those listed above, this one is eclipsed by the others. It's tasty but I'd rather try the ones above before I tried this one As for the food, we tried: - Zucchini fries - so good by itself, I love the shoestring style - Broccolini Crostini - nice and herby, a nice switch from the typical bruschetta - Grandmother meatballs - I liked the sauce in this one, my friends didn't care for it - Saffron Risotto - this was my favorite and I'm not a huge risotto fan so this was a nice surprise hit - Ravioli - nice umami and I liked the cheesy sauce it came with - Croquettes - can be a little salty but I liked the cheese sauce that came with it - Castro pizza - I'm not a huge fan of eggplant which is the main component here so I ate around it and it was good The restaurant has lots of ample seating inside as well as outside. For optimal experience, I suggest sitting either at the bar for a couple or in front of the alcohol wall for best vibes.

Yelp
Let's talk about the good before I go into why J&S gets only 3 stars. This new concept from the minds of Doppio Zero's owners looks inviting, modern, and impressive. For the most part, the food is nicely prepared, presented well, and very good tasting. The Zucchini fries were light and delicious, being accompanied with lemon basil aioli. The Bucatini and Ravioli were delicious as well. The "Castro" pizza was a bit bland IMHO. The flatbread itself was a bit underwhelming. Opened since May 2, 2025, I am having a hard time trying to understand why DZ is always crowded and this place, not. My pet peeves heavily influence the number of stars I deduct from a review. 1. I noticed a difference in the length of the seats where we sat and what was across from us. The other dining area's "couch" extended to the opening that led to the bathroom and other dining areas. Our "couch" was quite a bit short, exposing much of the wall behind it. 2. I think the staff needs a bit more training, etc. Our entrees arrived at the same time as our appetizer (Zucchini fries). Huh? Were you trying to rush us out? I ask because the restaurant was not full the time we were there. 3. When our pastas were being served, no one bothered to ask if we wanted any freshly grated cheese. Based on what we saw on the Zucchini fries, freshly grated cheese was available. During our meal, we did ask for cheese; we were given a shaker full of Parmesan cheese. I know we had ordered a pizza, but someone should have known we had pasta as well. 4. Most restaurants are very attentive regarding the replenishment of iced tea drinks. This was not the case here. I set up a test to confirm this. After finishing my iced tea, I asked my wife to flag down our server. She arrived and my wife asked her for a new glass of iced tea. Instead of observing mines was empty and asking if I wanted a refill, the server simply left to get a new iced tea for my wife.

Yelp
Ambiance is great. Location is easy to access, but you will be hearing the caltrain go by if you sit outside. Service isn't bad, but: - they didnt bring olive oil to enjoy with the bread. only butter.. which felt interesting, given this is an Italian place - seafood pasta was so underseasoned I actually asked for salt - friend got a chicken entree (can't remember which one), and they didn't ask her which side she wanted to pick from the options listed in the menu - price is pretty steep Given this, not sure I'd return.

Yelp
Was excited to try this new Italian entrant in Mountain View. However the dishes were meh. Chicken parm wasn't crispy and a bit one note on the flavor side. Caprese lacked the fruity tomato flavor that makes the dish shine. Tiramisu also just ok. Service was still new and inexperienced.

Yelp
Fresh housemade pastas, fresh dough oblong pizzas, and nice glasses of wine. Newest of the 3 new restaurants I tried this past weekend. Just opened May 2nd. 4.25 stars Food 4.25 Service: 4.25 Atmosphere 4.5 Cost to worth it ratio: 3 (starters ~$15, pizzas ~$20, pastas ~$26, entrees ~$30) Opentableable: yes Return worthiness: yes Highlights: - Mafaldine con salsiccia: super spicy sausage packs a punch and one of my gave curly edged noodles and dollop of ricotta on top reminded me of a deconstructed lasagna like pasta 4.25 stars - Arancini 2 crispy decent sized ovals with a gooey cheesy center. Liked that it was on a bed of arugula to cut the friedness. 4.25 stars - Margherita pizza: puffy oblong crust with a crispy bottom. More cheese than a standard margherita but who's complaining about an excess of cheese? 4 stars - Fettuccine: I choose vodka sauce which was pretty good version with decent flavor, but could've used a bit more umph. 4 stars - Wine: Italian and Californian with good selection by the glass with generous pours. I loved my glasses of vermentivo (light and bright--almost like a vinho verde) and primitivo (same grape as a zinfandel). - Menu: had classics and no pastas that were overly fancy and also sandwiches for any appetite. - Waiter: Nick was efficient and had good recommendations. - Fun decor with old signs on the wall about cocktails for some whimsicalness, stunning bright backlit wall of liquor by the bar, and a saying by the reception saying "life is a combination of magic and pasta." Midlights: - Fettuccine on the menu is written as "a medley of sauces" giving the impression it came with all which seemed suspect but cool cause I like variety. Turns out there's no coolness: you just pick 1 of them. - Chicken added to the fettuccine was a small portion of super small squares. - No gluten free pasta options noted on the menu and many non-pasta items are breaded Lowlights: - Dance club music on a Sunday night didn't match the theme, decor, and vibe of the place. Loved that we have a place with housemade pasta close to us and will be back with friends to try more--and some of the classic protein entrees too (piccata, parmesan, etc).

Yelp
Honestly I've been twice and I'm already dreaming of going back. I want to try everything on the menu. Spanning our visits so far we've tried the garlic bread, brussetta, fries (for my 3 yr old ), brussel sprouts , Caesar salad, carbonara, spaghetti meatball, casarecce, mafaldine con salsiccia and the eggplant parm. Really almost everything has been good. Standouts for me : Malfalfine con salsiccia -- sauce is so delicious I'm honestly wishing I had some right now. Casarecce-- I expected to love the carbonara more but the rich flavor from the truffle was awesome. Brussetta -- so much flavor Lowlights-- the Brussels sprouts were kinda meh. Service and atmosphere were great. I love the old movies in the background with the oldies playing.

Yelp
Came here with a big group for a bachelorette party, so take it with a grain of salt. The restaurant was pretty empty for a Saturday evening, but service was quite slow. We essentially ordered one of each appetizer, but they were underwhelming and largely not memorable. The zucchini fries were seasoned well but soggy when they hit the table. I got the fettuccine as a main dish because I'm a sucker for fresh pasta. The pasta itself was fine, but pesto was so bland. I ended up taking it home and augmenting with homemade pesto. Much improved. Overall kind of a meh experience. Not the worst, not the best.

Yelp
Delicious pizza, entrees, drinks and more! The whipped ricotta is to die for!! We came for their grand opening and will be back again, most definitely! Atmosphere is lively and welcoming, staff is friendly and attentive. Great for date night & after work drinks, but also families.

Yelp
Truly an undiscovered gem in Mountain View. We were there twice in our week long stay in MV. Our first visit was so good we said "we have to come back to this place and we did. The food was excellent as was the service. All of their pastas are house made. On our first visit Ana took care of us. George took care of us on our second. Everyone at our table enjoyed everything we ordered. The Frito Misto was an ample portion, enough to share. The ingredients were lightly breaded and fried. Not at all greasy. Same comments for the garlic fries and the fried zucchini. Grandmas meatballs were amazing. Maybe the best marinara we have had in a restaurant. Great lasagna, thin noodles. Salmon, saffron risotto and gnocchi were also very good. We enjoyed the Grandmas meat balls so much that on our second visit we asked if they could take an order of the meatballs, with the sauce, and put it on top some plain fettuccine. No problem. It was wonderful. We asked for more bread so we could sop up all the wonderful sauces. We wish the best for this restaurant. We want it to be there the next time we are in Mountain View.

Yelp
Discovered this place through Yelp when we were searching for a date night to celebrate our anniversary. My boyfriend and I decided to come here for our anniversary. The restaurant is beautiful: we were seated in the back what they refer to the movie room. First off, when we got to the table they had a hand written note congratulating us on our three years; such a thoughtful detail. Our server Nick provided awesome customer service - he was helpful and attentive. We ended up getting two different mocktails and they were delicious. We tried the the that's amore (tasted like strawberry) and island nectar (more tropical) both 10/10, not overly sweet. We started off with the warm bread they serve and the garlic fries - both were great. For dinner I got the fettuccine Alfredo (they have many options for vegetarians) and it was perfectly cooked al dente and it was creamy. My boyfriend got the rib eye with spaghetti and he enjoyed his meal. As an anniversary gift they gave us tiramisu and it was perfect. Highly recommend checking this restaurant out; lots of food options, flavorful food, reasonably priced, great customer service and it's beautiful!

Yelp
Amazing and fresh entrees, beautiful decor, friendly al fresco dining - new fav! We used to go to Deppio Zero (sister restaurant) but this is what we will go to now.

Yelp
Service 4/5: waitress was prompt and very nice, but never told us the specials (we overheard them being told to the table next to us after we'd already ordered), which was disappointing given it was pretty slow the night we came in. Food 3/5: arancini tasted like frozen fried food, pretty bland. Chicken parm was good, spaghetti was great. Pizza was just okay. Drinks 4/5: my husband had the Negroni which was good and I had a glass of wine which was also good. Cocktail menu wasn't my favorite, lots of sweet and vacation-like drinks.

Yelp
very much a fine experience that seems to compete with their other restaurant down the street (doppio zero) at least a little, but what's one more italian spot on a block with two others already haha. the food quality is good, on par with vida which was at this location until about a month ago, but for what you get, pretty expensive, honestly. we ordered some appetizers to split: the croquettes, the zucchini fries and the broccolini crustino. the croquettes were probably my favorite. super flavorful and not overly truffle flavored, which can overpower pretty easily. nice fry on them and served perfectly hot and melty. the fries were good, well battered, but it was hard to eat them as fries. i ended up just using a fork and skipping the sauce. they fell apart in it, plus the flavor (lemony dill) fully covered up the nice zucchini flavor, in my opinion. would be interesting to see them try this tempura fry with them in bigger, dippable sizes. the crustino was tasty, but so difficult to eat. it fell all over the place, got on my nose... would maybe help if the kitchen/staff ate this dish. i think maybe that would help give them an idea on how to make it less about presentation and more about practicality of eating. but tasty. could have used more hot pepper :) service was impeccable and kind. might be back to enjoy some wine here as their menu is bigger than DZ's. thanks for the hospitality, y'all

Yelp
Very friendly & inviting staff. We were drawn to the ambiance. We came for the dranks, stayed for the food. Thanks for the super service & great cocktails, Jesus! Great to meet Marco & Eric. We plan to return for round 2 soon! (I'm not an Italian food connoisseur but I will just say I enjoyed my fettuccini dish.)

Min K.

Yelp
service wise was great. ambience is up to par. as for the food, i dont know.. the salad was dry, the pizza seemed more like a flat bread. gnocchi wouldve been better in a white based sauce. overall good for pets and large groups.

Yelp
basically didn't change the interior since the Spanish spot. had higher expectations for a doppio zero restaurant. pasta and pizza ok but not mind blowing flavors. squid ink, bucatini, fettucine, fritto misto, al dente ok. many other spots to try on castro st now.

Yelp
Basically it seems to be a good place and we would go back. The service was (as one of my party put it) "a little wonky". We were there on a Sunday and it wasn't particularly empty. For some reason, the bartender was also waiting on our table. I don't get that. Whatever. I got the Salmon with broccolini and Calabrian peppers. Pretty good. LOTS of broccolini. Mild heat from the peppers. My sister got the Fettuccine with Shrimp which was good, I don't recall the description but basically a pesto. A bit on the oily side as pesto can be. I took the leftovers home and was glad to have it the next day. A couple of odd things, the bartender, I mean the waiter, brought our check without even asking if we wanted dessert. Well, we wanted dessert so he took it away. The dessert was a limoncello cake which was very good. When he brought the check a second time, we had to call him back because two items were missing from it. Some people would just pay it and consider it good luck. I just don't do that. It hasn't been open that long so hopefully service gets smoother. Details are what separate an ok dining experience from a great one. Lots of potential, et's hope they can take it up a notch.

Yelp
Food is OK, mildly overpriced. Drinks 8.5/10. Service 3/10. 10+ servers doing f all but talking to each other.

Yelp
Our family of four loves trying new restaurants. When I saw their menu on Yelp, I was intrigued by selections like Sanny's mafaldine and clam chowder that you don't usually see in Italian restaurants. However, the experience was rather disappointing due to the service and miscommunication. I specifically asked the hostess before entering the restaurant if they have a kids menu. She assured me that they do have kids offerings, they just haven't "printed out the menu yet" but the waitress can tell us what they have. Once seated, we were given a menu that is completely different than what I saw on Yelp (no mafaldine or clam chowder). When I asked about kids offerings, the waitress said that they do not have any. I insisted that she double checked with the kitchen and she returned saying that we can order from the regular pasta menu for the kids. When I asked her if that means the kitchen can make any pasta "kid portioned" she said no, they would be just the same adult portion and same price. Since they don't have a kids menu after all, I decided to order the lasagna and the fettuccini for myself to share with the two kids. The fettuccini was described as Homemade Fettuccine pasta, cherry tomato, basil pesto, shaved Parmesan cheese. However, the waitress asked me which sauce I would like for the fettuccini and when I showed her that the menu said it only comes with basil pesto, she looked visibly frustrated and said that the menu was changed overnight and she did not know. We added a Misto Fritto to share and when she repeated the order to us, she said that it was a pasta and we had to again show her the menu and explain that misto fritto is an antipasti which she did not seem to realize. To be honest, the Misto Fritto and the lasagna were both really delicious. The fettuccini was drenched in pesto sauce and did not come with any shaved parmesan cheese on top, and when we asked for it (it was a different waitress), she gave us parmesan cheese powder for pizza and I had to remind them it is listed on the menu before they brought out shaved parmesan. A man also came by and asked if we would like more bread to which we said yes but then he never came back with fresh bread and we had to ask another waitress to help us. I understand new restaurants need to work through some growing pains and the issue is management/training, so we paid the usual 20% tips. When I received the check, I also noticed that the lasagna price seemed higher than I remembered but as I didn't have the menu to reference in front of me, I thought I just remembered wrong. However, on the way out of the restaurant, I double checked the menu by the front door and it was listed as $24 on the printed menu but we were charged $28. Based on the Yelp menu ($28), it looks like maybe the printed menu had a misprint or maybe they changed pricing but forgot to change it on the cashier end. Overall the food is fine but the level of communication between staff members and training provided to staff are very lacking. As this is run by Doppio Zero, I had expected a more smooth experience. Perhaps families are just not their targeted audience.

Yelp
J&S hosted a group of almost 20 of us for a wonderful meal to cap off our work gathering. We had a global group of foodies and everyone raved about the food. Our dishes were tasty and plentiful and the family style servings were fun because we got to try everything! They even sent over an eggplant parm for the group as a gift and it was delicious. The calamari and the steak were particularly good! I highly recommend working with Camila who runs their events. My entire experience with her was easy and delightful - from working with her prior to the event to plan the meal and finalize the contract to her hosting us for the event where she and the rest of the staff were gracious and efficient. I highly recommend Johnny and Sanny's, especially for a group event - it's a fantastic addition to the Mountain View restaurant scene!

Yelp
We were so hopeful yet ended up disappointed. Sauce lacked flavor, the ambiance was the highlight. This place will not last

Yelp
They got it right, good people! Italian-American at its best and they know the difference! The food is excellent, possibly only surpassed but certainly matched by the warm, professional service. A special mention to Camilla, Anita and Kerleta for making my dining experience memorable for me and my guests! Get yourselves a table, good people!

Yelp
The eggplant parmigiana was delicious; the fries that came with the takeout order as the side were quite generous. I was delighted to find a Classic Cobb Salad, as they seem to have disappeared from menus in Mountain View. I was not able to order online; I was able to complete the order up until the final point. I did wonder whether that was because I declined to create an account with Toast. Boo. I was pleased that the fries container and the Cobb Salad container were both compostable. The container for the eggplant parmigiana was black plastic, so it's neither compostable nor recyclable in Mountain View. I can see that a compostable container might not work well for eggplant parmigiana, but at least clear plastic would have been recyclable. Sigh.

Yelp
Went here with my wife about two weeks after opening. My review is mixed. Seating was immediate. Dining room was spacious and nicely decorated. Service was friendly and attentive. Food was served promptly. I ordered a salad, chicken piccata, and a side of broccolini. My wife ordered frutti di mare. Here are my impressions, good and bad. First the room was loud and noisy, which made conversation difficult. The complimentary bread was small - just four small cubes of bread. Stylish but insufficient. The salad was ample but simple and bland. A few more ingredients would jazz it up, such as sliced onion, olives, or capers. The chicken piccata had an outstanding sauce. The meat was tough and required a knife to cut, but the sauce was heavenly. The broccolini stems were stringy and tough. Broccoli, par boiled or steamed, al dente with garlic and lemon, would be better. The frutti di mare was generous and good. We like Italian restaurants. Mountain View is blessed with many. We will visit this one again.
