Let's talk about the good before I go into why J&S gets only 3 stars. This new concept from the minds of Doppio Zero's owners looks inviting, modern, and impressive. For the most part, the food is nicely prepared, presented well, and very good tasting. The Zucchini fries were light and delicious, being accompanied with lemon basil aioli. The Bucatini and Ravioli were delicious as well. The "Castro" pizza was a bit bland IMHO. The flatbread itself was a bit underwhelming. Opened since May 2, 2025, I am having a hard time trying to understand why DZ is always crowded and this place, not.
My pet peeves heavily influence the number of stars I deduct from a review.
1. I noticed a difference in the length of the seats where we sat and what was across from us. The other dining area's "couch" extended to the opening that led to the bathroom and other dining areas. Our "couch" was quite a bit short, exposing much of the wall behind it.
2. I think the staff needs a bit more training, etc. Our entrees arrived at the same time as our appetizer (Zucchini fries). Huh? Were you trying to rush us out? I ask because the restaurant was not full the time we were there.
3. When our pastas were being served, no one bothered to ask if we wanted any freshly grated cheese. Based on what we saw on the Zucchini fries, freshly grated cheese was available. During our meal, we did ask for cheese; we were given a shaker full of Parmesan cheese. I know we had ordered a pizza, but someone should have known we had pasta as well.
4. Most restaurants are very attentive regarding the replenishment of iced tea drinks. This was not the case here. I set up a test to confirm this. After finishing my iced tea, I asked my wife to flag down our server. She arrived and my wife asked her for a new glass of iced tea. Instead of observing mines was empty and asking if I wanted a refill, the server simply left to get a new iced tea for my wife.
