On the Grid : Johnny Lobster

"This place has it all; slick branding, mouth-watering food and a great vibe. All sustainably caught seafood, these guys know what they are doing when it comes to making mean sandwiches. Picture whole lobster tails smothered in dill fronds, folded with chunks of potato and salty pancetta ensconced in a perfectly baked roll. If you love your lobster juicy and sweet, the eagle has landed. Don’t even think of sharing the ice-cream sandwich. Inside a soft brioche bun sits a splodge of vanilla ice cream generously drizzled with a salty rum butterscotch. Salty-sweet epicness." - Born & Raised

Dined here for lunch recently, nestled in the heart of the Crows Nest village. We had the Dirty Bird burger, Chicken Salad and Fried Pickles. Very tasty food, and definitely recommend the pickles as a alternative to fries, especially with the chipotle mayo. Thanks team!

Probably the best lettuce bun burgers I’ve ever had! The lettuce was so fresh and held all the fillings really well, not messy at all. Chips might need an upgrade though, didn’t seem as fresh.. The man working was so friendly and good at what he was doing. Will be back! 😊

This is a great spot for your American style burgers and fried chicken. The GF burger was one of the best I have had! Waffle fries were nice and crispy. Fried chicken was lightly coated and very crisp - I could tell the oil was fresh. The host is also a very nice and accomodating guy! We felt very welcome and will definitely be back.

Dined here on a rainy school night. Ordered the Johnny Burger and chips. The Johnny Burger was absolutely amazing. The chicken was crispy with a soft tender centre. The sauce was flavoursome and the whole Burger tasted clean. The chips came out first with the Burgers following up behind only minutes later. The only thing that could have improved was the seasoning on the chips as it tasted very peppery. Over all, great experience with friendly service.

Had a hankering for a burger. Johnny bird answered the need. Ordered the original burger with side of thigh tenders, fries and a beer. Great service from the team, found a spot for me to dine in (out of the rain). Food came quick smart. Due to intense hunger, I downed the burger too soon and got a burnt mouth. Flavours were on point for me. A little messy eating by hand but I don’t mind. Fries were excellent. Fried chicken I didn’t touch as I ordered a bit too much food! They were kind enough to give me some take away boxes to take the leftovers home. Probably a little on the pricey side, however it hit the spot for me. Recommend, will go again!

If your after a really good chicken burger, fries and drinks, Johnny Bird is definitely worth visiting. A big range of different style chicken burgers and sizes means you can really enjoy it. Shakes very tasty. I had the OG, chicken thighs as a side and fries. Friendly service.

Really yummy fried chicken burger. The chickens are moist and succulent to the taste. My absolute favourite is the johnny bird burger- a plain fried chicken burger with coleslaw. Absolutely define. Simple so so good. This time around we got the lost in translation burger- a katsu fried chicken burger which so yummy. We also got the dirty bird- which is okay, just a little too sweet from the overload of BBQ sauce. Definitely try Johnny bird, you'll get a good tasting of fried chicken burger 🐔🍔🍟🍖

Yelp
Saw Jonny Bird's show at Starve Rock Lodge in Utica, Illinois! He is a very talented Performer! His Show is energetic and gets the audience involved. His sidekick had the audience clapping and dancing - what a guy! I would suggest his show to anyone for a good time and it is a good value! Food was very good and the service was great!

Yelp
After a 30 min transit (train ride and walk) from the CBD, I was worried that this trip would not be worth it but what the hey, YOLO (you only live once). Arrived to a nice dimly lit restaurant on Sunday evening after the sunset with little candles at each table and was greeted with smiles. I already knew what I wanted... I did my research. I wanted fried chicken AND a lobster roll. Instead of opting for the Surf and Turf for $30, I went for the full plate of each which meant more lobster roll, no fries and about 8-10 small potato chips and slaw. For $2 extra, I thought it would a better deal. More tasty goodness (see picture). After putting in my order, I take a look at the options for hot sauce and landed on the Thai Grand Mountain Sriracha Chili Sauce (see picture). It went so well with the very tender and very well seasoned chicken. The lobster roll was near PERFECTION with the light, fluffy lightly buttered and toasted bread. The potatoes and corn were well seasoned and the lobster was fresh. I highly recommend coming here and spending the extra $2 to get the full plates. Maybe next time I'll share a small order of fries with someone just to see how they taste. In summary, the 30 min trek from the CBD was very well worth it! Very much so! "I'll be back!"

Yelp
I tried the lobster roll for $20, not many big flavours...in fact not much flavour at all. Very bland. Potatoes don't have much flavour as does a white roll, mayonnaise, lobster and dill. I've also tried the fried chicken and wasn't too bad, bigger flavours but doesn't fit Sydney.

Yelp
Nice lobster roll in a brioche bun. Staff are quite friendly, but the lobter options are all quite expensive...

Yelp
I have visited Johnny Lobster three times now, each time bringing a different group of people. On every occasion, I have been floored with the quality of the food, drinks, service and music. The staff is warm and friendly, the music fresh and lively. Their array of gins impressed everyone and their food is exquisite. Their all you can eat chicken evenings are phenomenal, absolutely great fun for a group of mates to get together and eat as much boneless thigh goodness as possible. Their namesake Lobster roll is also out of this world, overstuffed with lobster and complimented with salty crisps. Prices are incredibly reasonable, it's incredibly accessible and I highly recommend giving it a visit. I will be back

Yelp
For a place with Lobster in the name, I was surprised to only see two menu items with the crustacean. I got the roll. At $20 its certainly one of the more expensive sandwiches in my recent past, but hey, that's Canadian Lobster bulging out of that toasted St Marlo bun. And for $3.50, I was sure to add in a side of thrice-cooked hand cut chips (made fresh daily). And yes, they're licensed. The beer menu offers up a few of each of Young Henry's and 4Pines. Sydney staples. With a menu boasting about their fried chicken, and half a dozen or so other sandwich offerings (including pulled lamb and soft shell crab) there's quite a few reasons to head back to Johnny Lobster.

Yelp
My office crew and I had been waiting months for the unveiling of this new Crows Nest food option. It has a fun vibe, interesting menu and friendly laid back service. I had the lobster roll (would've been rude not to), it's $20 so not cheap but very tasty. Shared some triple cooked chips which were excellent if you like 'em extra crispy. They are waiting their liquor license so let us sneak in some beers sssshhhhh I'll definitely go back to try some of the other menu options. Not a bad shout for a Friday lunch!

Yelp
Clearly I'm really disappointed with this place. Firstly my food took over 25 minutes to come, i would understand this if they were busy but other than me they were only 4 people there who were already eating. Therefore, had no idea what was taking them so long. The fried chicken was overcooked, dry and burnt to some extent. I reckon because it was burnt, it just made the coating tasteless. The fish roll on the other hand was quite delicious with a lot of flavours, the bread was really nice and soft, however fish was cold. Seemed like the fish was precooked and kept, and then just put into a roll. Overall the roll was nice but there needs to be quite improvement.

Yelp
I had to order the lobster roll here and it didn't disappoint. The lobster was succulent and the potato salad with pancetta was unexpected but delicious all the same. It was all piled into a soft white bun and I paired this with their fries. After writing this review my mouth is salivating and I want to get another roll now ;)

Yelp
Johnny Lobsters has delicious fried chicken. Do yourself a favour and order the 5 piece feed with sides of mash, peas and chips. It's great quality! They also do a really nice gin cocktail. The service has always been top notch. I like!

Yelp
Dropped in here for a quick lunch and catch up with the boys. As a Crowie local it was well overdue for me to see what all the fuss was about. I ordered the chicken roll, my bud had the fish, his mate had the Lobster roll, we all ordered the fries. Came out reasonably quickly and the service was friendly. The soft toasted brioche chicken roll was delicious, but the triple cooked fries were amazing! His Lobster roll well worth the money, and the fish was healthy, fresh and tasty, wait, did I mention the fries!!! Sooo good!

Yelp
The menu has a perfect selection for all types of picky eaters. My boyfriend hates seafood but loves eating here, especially the fried chicken! And had lots of fun hanging at the bar in the evenings, cheers!!
