First - I love the entrée food here. Have never had a bad one, and today was no exception. We had the AM Burger and the Pulled Pork Sliders - both with Tots. Everything was great.
Then, dessert. While the restaurant was 75% less full than when we placed our dinner orders, our desserts took 45 minutes! WTH? 45 minutes to fry some Oreos, scoop some ice cream and put a piece of cheesecake on a plate???? We watched as table after table that were sat AFTER we put in our dessert order, and saw them get their entrees.
The waitress, who was as kind as could be - kept telling us the kitchen was backed up. However, I could HEAR them all the way out by the patio hooting and hollering.
Then, when our Fried Oreos FINALLY came out, all the ice cream was melted. What I was left with was Fried Oreo Soup. Now, the waitress concurred that this was terrible, and they comped us our desserts. But this is the second time the ice cream has come out soupy. And I do mean SOUPY. I asked to have a couple scoops of fresh ice cream. She returned and said even in the freezer, all the ice cream was soupy.
Ok. Now I'm getting concerned. If the ice cream is melting, how is the frozen FOOD staying to temp? What's going on here? This is the SAME thing that happened MONTHS earlier with the ice cream. Is this freezer working properly?
Then we watched as another waitress was shouting at guests who arrived at 8:40PM and were told the kitchen was closed. Wow! The place is open until 11PM and closes the kitchen before 9PM? Not a good look.
I'll chalk this one up to the fact that Sundays rarely have the best people working at night. But if I get soupy ice cream again, it will be my last time here. 3 strikes and you're out. I can't trust a place to keep frozen foods frozen that can't keep ice cream from melting.
It's a shame because the evening started out great. Our order was taken promptly, nice waitress, food arrived timely, and was great. But it seems as though the kitchen decided to check out around 8PM. The owner/manager of Johnny Black's should not tolerate this.
All I'm doing is giving the place 3 out of 5 stars. The party they literally chased out of the building through the patio was on their phones ranting to everyone under the sun, including people getting out of their cars, about how they closed the kitchen early and were treated rudely.
It only takes one bad experience by a few customers for bad word of mouth to start. We'll probably return at some point, but the desserts are on their last strike.
Those guys in the kitchen clearly were goofing around and decided "it's later on a Sunday - who cares?" Well, the people with MONEY that came to Johnny Black's care. And you can undo a lot of goodwill in 45-60 minutes. That kitchen phoning in the last hour and shutting down early came with a high cost. As a chef, manager, and owner, was it worth that cost?
