"Adding to that lengthy list of downtown restaurants and bars coined after country singers, Johnny Cash’s Kitchen and Saloon will open at 121 3rd Avenue South in spring of 2019. In collaboration with the Swett family, a Nashville name known since 1954 for its cafeteria-style Southern fare, Johnny Cash’s Kitchen and Saloon will serve traditional meat-and-three fare, with a little soul food thrown in." - Delia Jo Ramsey

I had a fantastic breakfast at the Johnny Cash Restaurant in Tennessee! The atmosphere is cozy and filled with great memorabilia that adds to the experience. The food was delicious—I ordered a side of biscuits and gravy and a side of fruit, and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and the service was quick. If you're a Johnny Cash fan or just looking for a great spot for breakfast, this place is a must!

Google
Good music and good food. Service was a bit slow (food came out quick but getting anything needed was slow). The pork was probably the favorite out of the meat we tried. Ribs were tasty with the brown sugar rub too.

My visit was for dinner with colleagues but I love that this place is also open for breakfast! I had the barbecue sampler platter and I thought it was the best choice I made all day that day! They don't serve it with barbecue sauce with the pulled pork was perfectly sauced on the plate. The ribs tasted like they had just come off of the neighbor's barbecue and the potato salad was just as good as the last Church potluck. I love the live music in The honky Tonk vibe. Staff were very friendly and it was a quick table service.

Was in Nashville and had to visit the HOUSE OF CASH- and went to hear the band in the upper bar- Taylor B. (The bartender) was great! She was a one person wrecking team- tending bar, cleaning tables and making sure everyone was having a good time! Went back the next day and found her at the lower bar! Great place, safe, and great ambiance!

Google
Great place (aren’t they all?) 1/2 block off Broadway in heart of Nashville nite life. Went on a Tuesday nite and crowd was perfect. Great open air band, server was great, food (fried chicken) very good. Please is casual, relaxed, no pressure. Architecture inside is original from 100 years ago.

Google
Great for the live music! Plenty of room to listen to music and hang out. They also have regular restaurant seating and serve food. I got the fried chicken with a Biscuit and Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese was just okay. The chicken was a huge portion and tasted amazing! Service was pretty average. It was probably more fun for just listening to music and grabbing a drink

The food looked and tasted like it was cooked in Johnny’s kitchen before he died and kept warm until 2024! The chairs are tiny and the most uncomfortable chairs on the planet. The service was below any standard in the industry there might be. If you want a picture and some good live Country music stop by have a drink, take a picture and buy a key chain or T-shirt and leave. This place needs a makeover and a new Chef!

Google
We hosted a private event upstairs with catered food, bar and live music and I was quite impressed. Food was fantastic and the staff were in and out making sure everything was stocked hot and fresh and there was no clutter of trash. Music was amazing, great band with a wide variety of music and styles plus custom tidbits to add to our speakers for our event. Last but not least the bartenders were on fire. Drinks came out fast and decently strong what more could you ask for. This place really stepped up for us and did The Man in Black's name proud. Highly recommend 👌

Terri ..

Yelp
TJWatson music was awesome and the beer was cold. Didn't eat, but really enjoyed the music.

Destiny G.

Yelp
So glad we decided to check out the restaurant after going through the museum. We visited in June. The atmosphere was so fun, and the live band was amazing! Our bartender was super nice and funny, and she was quick with drinks and our food order. The chicken was really good, as well as the fried pickles. I'd recommend getting a bucket of drinks to share with your companion, they had a good deal.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this place, and the music was good, but they were extremely understaffed. We sat down at a dirty table, waiting 20 minutes for someone to take our order. I felt so bad for the waitress. She had no help. She was doing everything from bussing tables, to mopping the floor, making drinks, on top of her regular duties. She apologized profusely, but we understand there was only so much she could do. They need to double their staff.... Next thing is that we just ordered a $14 cocktail and $6 fruit cup. It's EXTREMELY overpriced for what you get. The drink tasted good, but it came in a small plastic (water) cup. And the fruit cup was.... Disappointing to say the least. (See photo) $20 for this. So sad to see a legend's restaurant have such a disappointing experience for visitors.

Yelp
Johnny Cash's Bar and BBQ: A Disappointing Experience Our visit to Johnny Cash's Bar and BBQ in Nashville was underwhelming, to say the least. Despite the historic name and allure, the experience fell flat. Customer Service: The service was inattentive, leaving us feeling neglected throughout our meal. Pulled BBQ Pork with Slaw: The pulled pork lacked the rich, smoky flavor we were hoping for, and the slaw did little to elevate the dish. Grilled Chicken Plate with Slaw: The grilled chicken was bland, and the slaw failed to add any memorable taste. Unfortunately, even the iconic name couldn't save this place. The food and service were subpar; probably could have received better service and food at a gas station. Sadly, nothing stood out as memorable beyond the name itself. This was not the experience we were hoping for.

Rich C.

Yelp
Poor waitress working hard, sweeping floors while serving "meh" food. Their check recommends tips ... 20 - 22 - or 25%. Feel bad but ... 15% was too much for the food. Blech! Nacho Fries ...

Nik H.

Yelp
We spent a couple of hours here having a beer or two and enjoying some lunch. The ambiance was good and it had a lot of Johnny Cash Memorabilia. People were in a great mood and the duo on stage were playing some great tunes We had a Nashville hot chicken with onion rings and it was really good. I loved the bone-in chicken they used versus a pre-breaded filet. Definitely worth checking out.

Lisa T.

Yelp
Great food and fun ambience! There is a live band, keep all the other fried chicken we had in Nashville this one is so good!!! Cool old building. Stairs down to the bathroom is interesting and go into the museum store to get some fun souvenirs right next door.

Crystal G.

Yelp
I was too full to eat something here because we just came from house of cards Buffet . That did not mean that we did not come in to enjoy the music and admire the whole place. I mean it is the Johnny Cash restaurant, so yeah I'm gonna stop and hang out.#LoveJohnnyCash

Ryan E.

Yelp
Don't eat here if you're hungry! Waited for almost an hour and a hour while watching 5 tables around us who sat down after us get their orders. If your waitress is Bobby just get up and leave immediately!

Sierra B.

Yelp
Definitely between 3-4 stars. Mac and cheese was a great flavor. Fries were crispy and had good seasoning. My only real complaint is the breading in the chicken tenders, not the best. Chicken was a good quality though. Should've had the fried chicken instead

Ashley A.

Yelp
Live music even at 10am, the band was good. I like that it wasn't super loud. Service was seat yourself but staff was really nice. Everything was cooked to perfection. Probably the best potato's I've had in a long time. The sausage gravy was chefs kiss, super rich with lots of sausage bits. Price was good. Bacon was crispy. The only "complaint" was the pancakes were too sweet but that's just because we added chocolate chips so I don't blame the restaurant at all. That was our bad

Madison M.

Yelp
The food was just OK in my opinion, the atmosphere was very nice though, same with the band! The service was great although it was hard for us to find a table at first. I got the Mac and cheese and a smash burger, nothing special. But my boyfriend got the pulled pork sandwich and loved it! It was very hot in there though!

Raymond S.

Yelp
It was our third try at breakfast and finally we got served. The food was ok but nothing special. The service was good but the cutlery was plastic and in a wrapper, huge turn off for me. The bar is big, bright and clean and the band was outstanding. Right next-door to the Johnny Cash Museum which should be a must stop for all.

Alison M.

Yelp
We came in after visiting the nearby museum and wanted to see the BBQ menu and listen to some of the live music. It was mid-day so not crowded at all but they had a wonderful house band playing all Johnny Cash music. They were really good on the string instruments and had guitar, fiddle and steel guitar players. I'm in! We really enjoyed the music for a while but decided to go get BBQ elsewhere. It's no frills inside but has a comfy bar and plenty of seating.

Amiee W.

Yelp
My husband and I are first time visitors to Nashville, in town for the Drake concert. This was the first restaurant we decided to try due to the location (across from our hotel), and of course, the man, Johnny Cash. Unfortunately, the food did not live up to the expectation. If I were to rate on customer service and live entertainment alone, it would be a 5. However, the food was tasteless. The slaw tasted like raw cabbage, the pork was dry and cold, and the chicken was not seasoned at all. There were two different BBQ sauces to choose from but one had an overbearing vinegar taste and the other was just a mustard based sauce, nothing special. I do not recommend this place for food but maybe the drinks are better.

Mark W.

Yelp
Friendly staff. I ate there around lunchtime. Other reviews talk about the music being too loud, and I thought it was loud but not over the top. The sandwich was good, but I would have like a little more bbq on it. The onion rings were good and served hot. My son ordered the loaded French fries with pulled pork. The kitchen must have had some challenges. Sent out with no sour cream. Once we noticed that, we then noticed that no pulled pork was on it. Overall, ok experience.

Bill B.

Yelp
So the atmosphere was very nice here. And the bands were pretty good. The drinks were a little expensive but the food was about average price The brisket sandwich and the pulled pork sandwich were good the Hush puppies were decent The corn was only ok And the brisket entree was actually terrible Very fatty and lacking flavor

Dave B.

Yelp
Before going to the museum we stopped here for lunch. Very limited menu, BBQ, but that's what we expected. It was good, shared the sampler platter and it was enough for both of us. Waitress was good and the music was great. Lots of places to choose from on the strip. Nothing really special here but if you like Cash, it's as good as any other place.

Madelyne V.

Yelp
Delicious Nashville hot friend chicken with awesome live music. I got a platter of hot chicken with onion rings. It was great! The chicken was moist and definitely spicy (we were surprised at how spicy!). The onion rings were also really good and you can tell they were homemade. The live music was a covers band that we enjoyed. Highly recommend this spot!

Evy V.

Yelp
This establishment saved our night after my cousin was accused of stealing at Kid Rocks bar. The ambiance here was good. Energetic band and friendly bartenders. Close enough to all the madness of downtown Nashville, definitely had a great time.

Cori W.

Yelp
Positives: -Good looking place -Bartender was great and hooked up shot -Music/band was great Negatives: -The stage was in the front when you walk in, but when you sit to eat, you have poles in your way to view the stage -Food we got were bbq nachos They were probably one of the worst nachos I have ever gotten. Cheap cheese and slopped together. Johnny Cash would be ashamed. -Service sucked, we were standing around for about 5 minutes looking around to see who we order with and then all the sudden the waiter that was sitting down talking to people then got up. Did not wave at us or even acknowledge us. At one point he had leaned over the bar and I could see his underwear's. He was not delightful.

Troy B.

Yelp
Went for breakfast on a Friday morning . The service was slow and the food was terrible. The food was brought out and you could tell it had sat for a long time. Go for a drink and the band but pass on the food . They got an extra star because the Bloody Mary was good.

Foxy

Yelp
The service was awful. Awful. Our waitress didn't refill our drinks, she never checked in with us for the hour duration we were there, other staff members were checking in with us and bringing our food. She only brought our drinks. She didn't ask if our food was okay or anything. The experience of this establishment would have been far better if we had a waitress that actually waitressed.

Tracy B.

Yelp
Food is horrible! Coleslaw has zero flavor! The baked beans are gross , they don't give you any sauces for your pulled pork.

Chip H.

Yelp
Nostalgic place, great atmosphere. And day after day, some of the most outstanding bands and music, you'll hear! Service was quick, especially for as busy as it was they do a great job. The food is great as well although I didn't care for their coleslaw, and I get coleslaw everywhere but this one had an unusual twist that I was not impressed with... other than that, great place.

Nadja B.

Yelp
Family was visiting and wanted to try this place. I really didn't go in expecting a lot. I feel like most of the places around the area are just kinda meh. Service was fine, our waitress was nice and kept our drinks filled. Food took a really long time to get out though. For that limited of a menu you'd think it go faster. The food was nothing to rave about. Just fine. The band was good, mainly really loud. But obviously it's downtown and I didn't expect a quiet dining experience.

Andrea D.

Yelp
Had the best time listening to Lambie and the Livestock with Chloe Kimes. They are a MUST SEE for your next Nashville trip. Every time we're town, we look them up. Keep it up guys!

Dede C.

Yelp
We stopped here for a drink after visiting in the Johnny Cash Museum. It's a little off the beaten path which is nice, and it's a smaller bar which we enjoy as well. I will say the band that was there was really good but they were so loud you could barely have a conversation. As far as value they use the smallest plastic glasses at the bar and even with house liquor the drinks were $13 apiece. I didn't think this was the place I was going to go for anything else because the drinks were small and expensive. I didn't look at the food menu, but the food look good, but we didn't try any so I don't have anything to say about that.

Lauri B.

Yelp
Fun bar with live music. It's directly next door to the Johnny Cash Museum. The food was basic; nothing to write home about, but the live entertainment was great!

B O.

Yelp
Stopped in for a cocktail on our way home, roughly 10:30 pm after a nice night of dancing and listening to some great music Ordered two bourbon on the rocks for my wife and myself and checked the bill as we've had some issues with bar people not giving the right change . In this case it was a credit charge for $57 dollars. Told the bar lady she overcharged us and was told belligerently this is what you ordered. Said no it wasn't and asked to speak to the manager. After 5 minutes there was no manager and asked where is the manager. She said don't know and didn't care. Told her this was bull shit and she said fuck you and called the bouncers Told the bouncers she was trying to screw us and they just said you have to leave. I said why?, I've done nothing wrong but order a drink and get over charged One of the bouncers seemed to understand my position but the other one started to push me and tell me to get out. Both bouncers were not much for bouncers and would have got their asses kicked for pushing me for doing nothing more than questioning by bill. I was just there to just have some fun. The bar maid smirked at me and waved fuck off as I was escorted out of the bar. I would say that ripping off clients is just the way things go at this bar. I never raised my voice or anything even remotely disconcerting I just asked to see the manager and got thrown out I'm 70 years old and certainly wasn't drunk so really not that much of a threat or even remotely a problem Never touched my drink but did stop payment in my credit card. Of all the times I've been to Nashville this is my first bad experience I would never step foot in this bar again and with all the other well run bars on the strip I would recommend that you not either

Mary T.

Yelp
After an enjoyable visit to the Johnny Cash Museum, I was ready for some lunch. Next to the museum is Johnny Cash's Bar & BBQ. I might as well be a tourist by having lunch next door. There was a male staffer in front of the door. He encouraged everyone to enter. There was live music happening, which made my day. I asked him where to go for the eatery area. He said straight ahead. I thanked him and walked in. You basically seat yourself. I wanted to sit at the closest table to the live music, but it still had plates and drinks on it. I sat just behind it with a good view of the performances. The stage is closest to the main entrance. I love being able to enjoy a meal and take in live music. It was a treat here. It took a long time for my server to come over. I am ridiculously patient and fit into Nashville perfectly. I got a male server who was great. While in Nashville, one needs to try Nashville hot chicken. The typical thought is that you get it as a sandwich. I was delighted to get two pieces of it with two sides and a biscuit. I ordered the chicken with baked beans and green beans. Yes, it was a day of beans. I also got a Diet Coke and ended up getting another refill. My Diet Coke came first. I was thirsty, so it hit the spot. It was cold, fizzy, and yummy. Another male server brought my food over to me. It looked good. I started with the Nashville hot chicken. I got a wing and a breast. I tackled the wing first. There was so much spiciness going on. It was spicy, but yummy. I needed to lessen the spicy burn in my mouth with some of the baked and green beans. They were excellent. The baked beans had some sweetness, but not on the gross side. I loved them. The green beans were so good. I could have asked for a double order. They were delicious. I went back to the Nashville hot chicken and tackled the other piece left. The breast wasn't as spicy, likely because there weren't as many nooks and such for the spices to hide and do a hot number on you. It was juicy and so good. Both pieces were crispy and done perfectly. I wanted to stay longer. I maxed out my parking through the app. I then ordered an apple cobbler with vanilla ice cream. It was essentially a slice of pie that was bashed around in a bowl, with vanilla ice cream on top. It wasn't what I had expected, but it tasted yummy on a hot day. The bar was across from where I was sitting. If you want to grab a drink and stand to take in the live musical performances, you can. I managed to see two different acts play. They were so talented and I appreciated them. It was such a lively place, especially to people-watch. I loved it all. My server came over with the bill when I signalled that I was ready to pay it. He brought it to me and thanked me for being so patient. The eatery were short-staffed that day. It was such a nice statement coming from him. I was on vacation and didn't have to dash anywhere, so it all worked out. I paid with a credit card. He ran it through is payment kiosk. He brought me a receipt to sign and indicate my tip. It was an old-school thing that I had forgot about. The washrooms are in the basement. I don't recall seeing an elevator, so I can't comment on the accessibility. There are a fair number of steps. The staircases are to the right when you first enter the restaurant. The women's washroom was clean. No complaints. I had a good time having a late lunch here. I would love to try the mac and cheese next time. (268)

Yelp
The chicken was great when we actually got it. Pretty sure our ticket got lost or forgotten multiple tables around us received their food before us who sat down way after us. When we asked our waitress she threw her hands up and acted very rude and inappropriate. The artist performing was awesome and I got sung to for my bach.

Adam E.

Yelp
only thing good was the food service was awful was there for 2 hours with a party of 7. got charged for ice cream we didn't ask for. and the worst thing in the world was they chargers a processing fee for the credit cards. ridiculous. I love Johnny cash. But bar doesn't represent what he stands for.

Darren N.

Yelp
Excellent spot for live music right off the strip. It can get a little crowded but it was a great experience. The only reason it wasn't a 5 start experience was mainly due to the bartenders. Sometimes it seemed like they were being bothered having to serve drinks.

Ted G.

Yelp
What do you call going to Johnny Cash's bar and BBQ during the CMA music festival? A big mistake. Since we barely made it through the front door, there was little opportunity to see much of the bar. Clearly popular and quite country as I would expect nothing less from a business with the name Johnny Cash on it, Naturally a two story bar would have equal accommodations on both floors, including live music. Outside of the typical bar and dining seating, there are also some very comfortable couches arranged just outside the bar area where we decided to sit and listen to the music from a reasonable distance without being crowded with everyone else. It's definitely a typical country bar, so if that is what your looking for I guess this is it. Cheers!

Jon F.

Yelp
If cash was alive he would be rolling over in his grave. The brisket was as dry as cardboard.Ribs mediocre at best.band playing was only saving grace.waited all my life to watch here and now I regret it

P W.

Yelp
The flavor was good but just such tiny amounts. Deviled egg appetizer had a total of 4 bites (2 eggs), not worth the amount charged. Same with the brisket plate, which came with 2 small slices of brisket and 8 small hushpuppies. Again, good taste but the value of amount received to paid drives this low rating. Additionally, the serving techniques generate a Ton of trash. Disposable everything, plastics, and no attempt to recycle or reuse. Dinner time live music was all rock like Journey versus anything Johnny Cash era or country genre.

David A.

Yelp
The BBQ was pretty good, but there was a huge disparity in quantity of food vs. price depending on what was ordered. A single meat plate was maybe 3-4 oz of pork and a small scoop of potato salad for $19. We also ordered the BBQ sampler that was $25 which was the same amount of pulled pork plus three slices of brisket, a 3-bone end of ribs, 2 sides, and a bun. Just didn't make sense as we could've divided that one plate and had more food for each of us than what was on the single meat plate. Cole slaw was kind of bland and the beans were pretty undercooked.

Dr C.

Yelp
Johnny would be disappointed if he saw this place. Bad music bad service and we'll just not that hot. Did get to watch a really good street fight between two drunken idiots though. D-

Deedra F.

Yelp
Such a cool experience!!! The atmosphere was fantastic, back was awesome and service was great. It was very busy and the kitchen messed up our orders, but the waitress and manager were quick to make sure it was corrected. We appreciated their help and would highly recommend stopping by.

Suzanne M.

Yelp
We were heading to another diner on the street but the line was out the door... so we ended up at Johnny Cash's for breakfast. Coffee, coffee, coffee... the refills kept coming without being asked. The biscuit was okayyyyy but I had been spoiled by some other amazing biscuits already in Nashville so now I'm a biscuit snob. The bacon was crazy greasy and my friend couldn't finish hers. The live music was great but loud so we sat near the back and sucked down our Advil and nursed our aching heads. I'm summary, this place was fine for a much needed breakfast but not really a place I'd highly recommended.

Andrea C.

Yelp
I guess it's somewhat similar to the other honkytonks on Broadway in Nashville. Come for a drink and stay for a while and listen to the music, from morning till late night. The band we saw really wasn't bad at all. Fun to listen to. The menu is extremely limited, so we ordered chicken wings with Mac and cheese, and hush puppies. Chicken wings were edible if you were hungry. They at least had some meat on them. They were super greasy though. And even though I ordered them with buffalo sauce, they came dry and they just gave you a bottle of bbq sauce. The sauce was really mediocre. Not good bbq sauce at all. Mac and cheese was pretty good. And the hush puppies were dry as dirt and hard. Really terrible. Come here for a drink or two and listen to some music, then go someplace else to eat!

Al R.

Yelp
What a cool spot! Tons of Johnny Cash memorabilia and merchandise to purchase. They had a live band playing, which was awesome, and the service was very on point. It wasn't to best brisket I've ever had but this place is a lot of fun, check it out!

Lauren G.

Yelp
If I could leave this place no stars, thats what I would leave. The employees at this establishment are very disrespectful to ALL customers. They disrespect all Veterans and do not respect them for what they have done for our country. My blind uncle presented with his Veterans ID and they would not accept that as a form of identification and told him he had to leave. He is 75 years old. That is a disrespect to ANYONE that has served for our country. I will not support this place in any way possible.

Carly M.

Yelp
While walking down the strip in downtown Nashville we could hear the Johnny Cash music playing. We peeped in and was totally captivated ! The two man band was playing on the left when you walk in. The bar was directly across from their stage. We were told we couldn't eat at the bar. We ordered a meatloaf dinner for my parents to go. The server advised me the Cole slaw wasn't the best. We got mashed potatoes and cheesy hash browns for our two sides. We enjoyed listening to the live music. They did have a bathroom downstairs and plenty of seating. My parents said the meatloaf , sides and biscuits were really good. It was a fun place and everyone was friendly!

Izzy B.

Yelp
Waiter wasn't friendly, I asked for my chicken and waffles to be not hot, and she still brought me hot so I couldn't eat the chicken or the waffle.

Maram A.

Yelp
Laid back bar with good live music. Out of all the places where we had spicy hot chicken this chicken actually had some sort of a kick. I know it's a taco but I suggest they take the cheese out of it or replace it with a higher quality cheese. The coleslaw in the taco was good but there wasn't enough. The place is chill so it's a great option to come to among the other chaotic options. Mera's Tip: get the hot chicken but hold the cheese.

Lil P.

Yelp
Kai was a pleasure! She was so friendly made us feel right at home for our first time in Nashville! 10/10 service! I guess hospitality is not lost! Kai reminded us of that thank you so much! :)

Quy M.

Yelp
This was the only bar on Broadway that had a DJ. Our group had a good time jamming out upstairs to something besides country music. They also had the water dispenser which was great. Downstairs, there was a live band, like every other bar but this band was rocking out which drew us in here.
