FDA Says Strawberries From These Areas Are Linked to Multistate Hepatitis Outbreak | Eater SF

"Partnering with HenHouse Brewing Co., Johnny Doughnuts helped craft joint concoctions including Fresh Pots (a coffee saison), a barrel-aged pastry stout aged in bourbon and maple syrup barrels, and the Delicious Little Devil (a coffee riff aged in bourbon and maple barrels), available at HenHouse tasting rooms in Santa Rosa and Petaluma over the weekend." - Paolo Bicchieri

Google
I have wanted to try this place for awhile based on the other reviews but man $24.00 for 6 doughnuts?!? And the doughnuts arent even good at all -they actually taste like doughy store bought bread. Beautiful space and presentation but not the best tasting doughnuts and for that price? Ouch!

Paul D.

Google
Great doughnuts. Definitely on the higher end of a market price for a doughnut but completely worth it. Great service. The atmosphere is less than desirable but I’m also extremely bias on design of environments. Great area to play games, but it’s definitely a sparse design atmosphere. Don’t let this deter you to the doughnuts. Run, don’t walk. Some of the best doughnuts around.

Google
I would give it 10 out of 10 if they had longer hours and be a bit less expensive. Husband's fault for not being able to wake up early to be able to get a better selection.(i cant drive due to vertigo)I did however get a cronut thingy. I was not expecting to have it be a filled donut. Absolutely amazing. I honestly could of easily had a whole box of just those to be honest but by the time we got there there was only 2 left. I got to try the basic donuts and they were nice too. A bit less fresh then expected probably cause we were there last minute. But I do however enjoy the fact that even if it was a hint dry it wasn't greasy like other donuts I've had. Feels..healthier? I mean as much as you can with donuts lol I would like to return to try the other kinds for sure.

Google
I want to like this place, but the doughnuts just aren't my style. The flavors are good, but the texture is all wrong, like glazed bread. They do have a wheat-free option if you need that, though.

Google
A little tough to park in the rain- yet totally worth the GF blueberry doughnut and the deliciously well put together buttery coffee!! The girls were perky and kind. The vibe was quiet and peaceful. Best neighborhood shop to pop in for some cheer and festive start to your day!!

Google
Vegan donuts were 🔥. They make it from sweet potato tried the sweet potato glazed and sugar and spice. Also got a zebra donut for a friend. The donuts are made very thick where every bite feels you’re indulging in quite a bit of dough. May not be preferable to some but I thought these were some pretty good donuts. They also have pretty good tea and espresso drinks including a non-espresso based mocha which I want to try!

Daniel K.

Google
This uniquely modern doughnut shop is beautiful. Unfortunately the donuts don’t live up to their hype. The dough is hard and way too chewy… almost stale like. Donuts should be soft and melt in your mouth. Service is great and is so is their selection of donuts. They should have more vegan options though, there’s only 2.

Google
I was so excited to go to this place for my birthday after hearing good reviews. Worst mistake ever. As soon as we walk in we were not greeted, the employee just stood at the counter and stared at us with a blank expressionless face, not even a slight smile. It was really awkward and an uncomfortable experience. I got the brown butter donut, a glazed donut and a cinnamon sugar twist. Everything was so mediocre and disappointing the brown butter literally just tasted sweet there was not a hint of any type of brown butter flavor. And don’t even get me started on the lattes. My partner ordered an Iced mocha and I ordered an iced maple, vanilla triple shot latte. It took over 10 minutes for these two drinks to be made. We were the only customers in the whole place besides one other woman who already had her stuff. We were also still waiting on the donuts. My boyfriend’s iced mocha came as a hot mocha as well as it being somehow lukewarm HA! Also it had no chocolate taste. Got the order wrong and still couldn’t make a proper mocha. My latte was nothing but milk and tasted like nothing. Mind you I got a triple shot, the drink was barely off white in color. I work at a coffee shop I know what a drink should look and taste like. We threw our completely full drinks in the trash and got out of that awful place as soon as we could. We will not be coming back and I will be avoiding this place like the plague and spreading the word.

Yelp
3.5 STARS. Good: The size of the donuts are bigger than most places and the unique flavors are refreshing and the quality of some of the donuts were noticeably above average. Their jelly donut was one of the best jellies I ever had. Pushed me from a 3 to a 3.5 star rating. Staff was nice. Place seemed clean. Bad: Price. I understand this is more of a gourmet donut shop and I'm willing to pay more for a quality donut, but you don't want to price yourself out of someone going to another shop because it's cheaper and/or closer. Five donuts for almost $5 each before taxes is too much. Especially considering one of my donuts was a standard maple bar. Speaking of that maple bar (a donut I use as my "test donut"), it was very average. The dough was thick and good, but the icing left more to be desired. It was thin and the maple flavor was just ok. I could go to another place and get four better maple bars for the price of this one. That's not a good thing. I don't live in Santa Rosa, but I would only visit this place every once in awhile. There's gourmet donuts down in Pismo Beach, SLO, and Atascadero that have the same quality, yet for a few more donuts 6-7, the price is usually $22-24 out the door.

Yelp
First I love the aesthetic of the place and the presentation of the doughnuts, they are huge, lots of flavor options which is great, theylook delicious-starting at $4.50.... I've been here twice and unfortunately both times was a no for me. My dislikes are the taste of the doughnuts, in my opinion lacking flavor, kinda airy and dry. Big for nothing, I got a vanilla sprinkled doughnut and a vanilla old fashioned. Also I don't like the customer napkins they offer. It reminds me of a public bathroom. I don't like that. The vanilla sprinkles felt off at the touch, I consider it messy and disappointing. The old fashioned tasted like a pumpkin flavor also disappointing. The service was friendly.

Yelp
Nice open shop. When came in the woman at the counter was very friendly and interacted with my toddler on which donut he wanted to pick. A lot of good choices but we went with the sprinkle donut and the Cronut. I actually really liked the Cronut and was surprised by the cream in it, it was really good . Over all we loved our donuts but with 1 donut and 1 Cronut and a small coffee came out to $13.00 so a little to pricey to become a regular.

Yelp
Holiday flavors released today! 1) Santa's helper - a Caramel brûlée topped doughnut with maple bourbon custard filling & 2) Chocolate peppermint candy crunch - a chocolate old fashioned infused with peppermint, chocolate glaze and crushed peppermint candy. Both were delicious, but my favorite was Santa's helper because of its uniqueness. Great seasonal adds to their standard lineup. Service is always friendly and the place is kept clean. A regular stop for my family.

Andreya P.

Yelp
I used to love coming to the donut shop. They used to have multiple gluten-free options on the weekends and always had a good selection. I feel like every time I go in there. It's the bare basics with very limited options and now only one gluten free option and their selection is very very limited. It's unfortunate because it used to be so good.

Yelp
JD in Santa Rosa is a taste of home! The doughnuts are dense and top quality! The location is similar to a café which adds to the character of the shop! The staff were very welcoming, in addition to the fantastic menu items! My favorite Crodough does have a surprise in the middle in the form of custard filling. Coffee and espresso beverages are just ok, so stick to the pastries. I'm also glad they spell "doughnuts" correctly lol

John H.

Yelp
It was my first time trying it. The donuts are huge and fluffy. My son got chocolate glaze with a sprinkles and I got an apple fritter. My son loved his. The apple fritter was light and had big chunks of apple in it. Not as flavorful as Tans but good. For donuts very pricey. Over $5.00 a donut. The staff very friendly and it looked clean inside.

Yelp
I just found this little gem in Santa Rosa. I've lived in Santa Rosa for years and haven't ever spotted it! But today I did! And oh boy was I excited! I brought my daughter to school at 6am and nowhere was open near by, so I thought. And then there was Johnny doughnuts! Not only are the doughnuts gourmet and unique but they've got options for almost anybody's taste buds! The service was great. The place was very clean and it's very cute inside as well!! Thank you Johnny doughnuts for brightening my friYAY!

Yelp
This is definitely the spot when you need a treat yourself moment, but need it in a hurry. The donuts are big and a bit heftier than the average donut. I love their cronut and their basic chocolate glazed donut. They have vegan options too. My husband loves their mocha and their lattes are good too. I had their old fashioned latte recently and I would order it again. Worth a visit!

Yelp
Ordered a chocolate classic raised donut, a maple latte, and the brown butter latte. Service was polite and prompt. Having no line in the late morning when we went definitely helped with that, but it did mean there was a limited selection for the donuts. The space was clean, simple, and comfortable. Obviously smelled great too. Brown butter latte was the favorite. Such a yummy flavor. Maple latte was just okay. Tasted pretty good, but nothing special when you can find maple lattes all over the place now. The classic chocolate raised donut tasted good, but texture was not our preference. We both prefer a lighter, more airy donut. The chocolate was delicious. I'd be very curious to try the rest of the selection of donuts, but at those prices it's not likely we'll be back.

Yelp
The donuts and coffee I've always enjoyed but the staff always seems like they hate life. I have gone a few times and every time it's the same. But besides that I love the fluffiness of the donut
google avatar

Yelp
I've been coming here off an on for a few years and was really disappointed today to find that they had slimmed down their offerings. I have some dietary limitations and typically I'll get my daughter one of their overpriced donuts ($4.50!) and I'll get something savory. They used to have variations on avocado toast and other simple breakfast fare but now don't have any of that anymore. They were also out of the gluten-free doughnuts which meant that there was nothing I could eat there at all. 90% of the time I go there the GF doughnuts are gone. For a place that looks so hip you would think they would have more alternative diet choices like vegan or more GF but it's a very limited, traditional selection. Granted they are large "boutique" donuts. The staff were ok but not fairly flat and had some bad pop music on way too loud. This hangry writer wonders how they stay in business.

Yelp
Came to Santa Rosa and heard about Johnny's and the donuts are absolutely delicious! I HIGHLY recommend the Crodough!! These donuts are unique, the staff are welcoming, and the vibe is wonderful!

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic donuts and cinnamon rolls! We walked 1.2 miles from our hotel and they did not disappoint!! we had a brown butter cinnamon roll and three different donuts and they were all delicious. the service was great and quick and it's so cute inside. highly recommend!

Yelp
I have been meaning to try Johnny Doughnuts for quite some time. The space is clean, open and inviting which I really appreciate. I chose a cream filled cronut. It was not only absolutely delicious, but beautiful as well. The flavor and texture of this cronut was out of this world. I'm looking forward to trying more of their selections in the near future.

Yelp
Good shop with a good selection of doughnuts. It was hard to choose because I wasn't sure if I was feeling fruity or chocolaty. I decided to go for the chocolate caramel old fashioned. My boyfriend got the maple bar and cinnamon roll. I was full 3/4 of the way because they make pretty bready doughnuts, and honestly, it got a sugar rush pretty fast. My boyfriend's only criticism is that the doughnuts are too bready. Although he enjoyed the flavor. Overall, good doughnuts. A star for the clean and artsy atmosphere. 2 starts for the doughnuts and good customer service. Would give more, but I didn't try too much. I'm hoping to come back and check out more soon!

Yelp
We love Johnny Doughnuts! We've visited many times, and we especially like the brown butter, strawberry, and blueberry raised doughnuts. After deciding to host our wedding in Santa Rosa, we knew we had to serve their doughnuts for dessert! The doughnuts were delicious and many of our guests commented on how great they were. They even had wheat free options for our guests with dietary restrictions. We would highly recommend Johnny Doughnuts for doughnuts at special events (or anytime)!

Yelp
I wouldn't call these donuts but works of art. They're not cheap but worth it. Very friendly service also.

Yelp
Fresh hot donuts, no bougie flavors just classic awesome donuts! Owners are behind the counter and were very friendly!

Yelp
They're more dinner roll than doughnut. Softball sized fistfuls of... can we call this pastry? They feel like those little 1/2 pound bar bells you're supposed to work when you're on a running machine. The flavor is good, not too sweet, with the potato batter especially welcoming, but it feels stodgy and the texture is halfway to being an overcooked Bundt cake, and about as heavy too. This is not a light crumb. I swear to you, on our way out the door, we saw a couple sitting in their car out front cutting into their doughnuts with a knife and fork like it was a petit filet. These things are DENSE. The coffee here is nicely hot but made with grade Z beans and bitter as all get out. Did somebody grind the beans and leave 'em out to go stale? Tastes like it. Also, it's LOUD here, between the customers and the 90s top forty blasting, you're not gonna ramp up to Full Awakeness here. It's more like a slap in the face. Maybe that's why all the people working here look dour. I dunno... I don't hate this place but I wouldn't come back here. Bigger is not better. It's why we don't wear clown shoes to the pub.

Yelp
Very greasy donuts. Not sure if they were having a bad day but probably won't be visiting again

H C.

Yelp
Delicious vegan sweet potato donut! Not too sweet and even came in within 30 min of closing and didn't have a small selection. It's hard to find good non dairy donut options so so happy Johnnys is open. Friendly service as well.

Chunk P.

Yelp
The donuts are pretty expensive, but they're also really mediocre at best. A grainy, near-flavorless jelly filling in a donut the size of a baby's head just makes for an even larger uneaten reminder that you've been ripped off by some hipster dingus who lives for the Insta. Add a cup of weak coffee, served with a scowl by a staff that isn't so much hostile as it is begrudgingly alive, and you've just spent almost ten bucks on something that, for $2.50 in an interstate truckstop, would be mildly disappointing. In addition to the bad "jam" filling, my son was struck by the cold, stark whitewashed walls that reminded him of the inside of a box in which a bad person would abandon newborn kittens to die. And the tables were sticky. It's an overpriced pastry mausoleum. 1/10 would not bang again.

Yelp
I know I sound like a broken record with others on this but I really miss City Garden! We seriously enjoyed their doughnuts and were heartbroken when they closed. Because of our love for doughnuts we came here and gave them a chance, but it really wasn't the same. The space is open and clean, and their selection was pretty good even for a weekend. We ordered a Maple Old Fashion ($4), Lemon Rosemary ($3,75), Cinnamon Sugar Cro Dough ($4.75) and a Brown Butter Seasonal ($3.75) with a large coffee ($3). We did get some attitude from the redhead cashier, who was really short with us and quite rude, which really dampened the overall experience. We took the doughnuts home and tried a bite of each one. I wasn't impressed with any of them except the cro dough which I thought was above average-stuffed with a decadent creme. The other doughnuts were a little close/heavy in texture, and honestly a little boring. Pair that with the rude cashier and a somewhat high cost, I definitely miss City Garden even more! Overall, not a great first experience in their actual store. We have given them a couple tries (lime, sweet potato, and fritters) at the various farmers markets, and those were pretty "meh" as well. With so many delicious things in this county with better customer service and attention to flavor, I probably won't be returning.
google avatar

Tom S.

Yelp
Previously in this location was City Garden doughnuts. That team made pastries that were kisses from heaven. Creative combinations not seen elsewhere, light density, extremely fragrant, pleasurable mouth feel, physically invigorating & spiritually redemptive. These 4 Johnny doughnuts ($20 + tax) I just sampled, Not so much. Comparisons can be unfair, "that was then, this is now", but that's how we usually form opinions. The Johnny doughnuts have similar size to the former City Garden creations. The appearance though is not as refined nor as artsy. The Johnny old fashioned was a belly bomb. Heavy & dense. Thick gooey. Like the dough never got the chance to rise. Vanilla cream filled / chocolate & sprinkle topped doughnut was hardly better in appearance, finesse and taste than a Winchell's at nearly 4X the price. Now I am being critical. These doughnuts are better than Tan's or Safeway. Johnny does surpass those bargain basement makers. Though for my money I like the Safeway puffy raised doughnuts priced at 69 cents just fine. Go see and taste Johnny's. Let's hear your opinion. Mine? I vote with my dollars and feet. No return for me.

Yelp
What a tough thing to do - open up a donut business in the same location as the most amazing donut store that closed during covid shutdowns. All the previous reviews mention this and the donuts that came from there. So, just like everyone else in their reviews, it is hard to steer away from that subject. But.... here it is again. Johnny's Donuts on their own and from their successful food truck in Santa Rosa (often seen at the weekly Farmers Markets) might have delicious and unique donuts and other items. My experience in their new location was just so-so. First, they just opened up the dining area as well as pick up to go orders. Walking in the music was so loud, the building was vibrating. My friend had to go and ask them to please turn it down, otherwise we would have had to leave right away. Then after I ordered online for my early morning pick up, for some reason they couldn't find the order. After 5 minutes they did find my box. Brought the 4 very large donuts ($5.00 each) home for hubby and I to share and try different flavors. We got an old fashioned, two with mascarpone and lime filling and a chocolate frosted with vanilla creme filling. I forgot to mention that it was National Donut Day and that is what prompted the order in the first place. Donuts are one of those foods that is considered a real treat in our house, so I was so looking forward to a new discovery. However, these donuts didn't hit the mark for me. Yes, they were very freshly made, had good fillings, but for some reason, these are very very heavy donuts! Nothing light and fluffy about these at all. These are just not my thing. However, they are beautiful to look at, the fillings are awesome, and you should check it out to see how they compare to your previous favorite donut in town!

Yelp
Johnny Doughnuts in Santa Rosa! Yes please! A few years ago at work, we rented out a Johnny Doughnuts mobile truck for a work event and it was so successful. Since then I have tried their Larkspur location and now they are so close to home, I can have them anytime! This location opened on 5/8/21 for Mother's Day weekend. On 5/9/21, I arrived at 7:03am and find a long line snaking out the door already. I was probably the 15th person in line. The wait was about 20 mins or so which wasn't too bad keeping in my social distancing and they were letting 2-3 people in at a time, spaced out. I ordered: Sprinkly Guy Chocolate $3.75 Lime Mascarpone $4.75 Classic Chocolate $3.75 Vanilla old fashioned $4.00 Maple old fashioned $4.00 Donuts are larger than your normal donut, they are thicker but still soft. They do not make you feel stuffed or full. I also enjoyed that they source local ingredients like their flour, dairy, and fruits for their fillings. They also source local coffee. All ingredients are from Marin or Sonoma. The winner of the day was the Lime mascarpone! Soft outer layer and you cut it open to share and out drips the lime jam oozing out! I wanted to order the Blueberry raised donut and the wild berry jam which they did not have which is fine. Some of their donuts are seasonal. NEW, HOT & MUST TRY IN TOWN!
google avatar

Jennie N.

Yelp
I should have listened to the review that says they are more like dinner rolls than donuts. This sentence alone encompasses it all. Hard pass if you are in the area. Super cute shop, aesthetically pleasing--clean, bright and very welcoming but my review is based solely on the taste and it's just not good. The donut was a dry dinner roll AT BEST...a waste of calories for what's supposed to be a treat. :(
google avatar

Ilya S.

Yelp
i was surprised by how good the donuts were. the strawberry rhubarb filling donut was mind blowingly good.

Randalyn P.

Yelp
I love the coffee here and generally the service is good but I find it rude to have paid for 2 coffees and then have to wait for the people behind us to make up their mind on a several donut order and get passed on our coffees being made. Why is this the policy?
google avatar

Summer M.

Yelp
Delicious donuts, great coffee and a clean, lovely space. One donuts leave me fully satisfied after one and without that sickly stomach feeling I can get from eating other donuts.

Miranda M.

Yelp
Love this place! Best donuts in town, no contest!! And the lattes are so goood, flavored with the donut glazes!!! My favorites are the chocolate cream filled and the french toast one. Anything with their brown butter glaze is wonderful too!! Also very cute aesthetic inside vibe.
google avatar

Lily S.

Yelp
I really enjoyed my chocolate glazed donut but my friends had a gluten-free donut and an apple fritter and were disappointed. The gluten free donut had a very "off" texture and my friend questioned whether it was day old. The apple fritter had all the apple pieces at the bottom of the fritter, where they had formed into one apple clump instead of being nicely distributed throughout the fritter. I'm willing to give them another try but am hopeful they can work out some of the quality control issues.

Yelp
Wednesday mid morning wanting a bite to eat...Not breakfast...Not lunch as headed to the gym afterwards. I just wanted something to satisfy my hunger before working out. First time stop at Johnny's! Perfect! Greeted by a young lady behind the counter as soon as I walked in. She explained the donut selection to me within the case. I ordered the croughnut. Absolutely delicious! An iced chai latte to accompany while sitting at a long table within the shop. Very good! Super clean and a bit of a retro/industrial vibe inside the shop. Just enough to eat while enjoying the experience before the gym. Excellent!

Benita C.

Yelp
Even though the price of a donut is expensive, they are extremely delicious. They have fun alternatives to basic coffee. They also have a comfortable sitting area with great attentive staff.
google avatar

Rebecca S.

Yelp
The flavors are CRAZY as well as crazy-good! I grab a box to give as gifts and I'm never disappointed by the rave reviews that I receive (read: Johnny makes ME look good). Their vegan and gluten-free options are outstanding, as they never sacrifice flavor. The peeps behind the counter are witty and kind, the storefront reminds me a bit of an old-fashioned soda-fountain somehow. It's super clean - plus there's something about being served on a small baking sheet that tickles me. And is it just me or does the aroma of sweet, baked goods trigger the best childhood memories? LOVE this place!

Tracy S.

Yelp
Will never go back to this place again. The customer service is non existent. Young kids these days don't want to work. The employees is what makes the experience in a retail small business. No one welcomed me nor had a smile. When you're a paying customer you should be able to order 3 lattes without an ugh 3 lattes mumble to the co-worker. You need to get some friendly employees in the place! Miss city gardens they were super friendly and welcoming
google avatar

Kelcey A.

Yelp
Really good donuts i got a dozen of pretty much everything they are so fresh and soft with great flavors i didnt expect to pay for each donut so 100 for donuts is more then i wanted to buy but you get what you pay for, i would get 4 out of the 12 i liked.

Malina C.

Yelp
I tried Johnnys for the first time today. I ordered a dozen and 1/2 for my coworkers and a coffee for myself, letting the employee choose for me. I knew the donuts were expensive but was completely sticker shocked when I saw the total. Once I arrived at work I realized they charged me twice for the coffee and instead of 18 donuts there were 22 that I paid for! I tried one of the donuts and enjoyed that it wasn't as heavy as some donuts, but was really disappointed with the processed aftertaste. Lets just say I'm not a fan and will not be returning.
google avatar

Joya C.

Yelp
Im so glad Johnny's opened right near my house. Iv been going in weekly for a vegan donut and an unsweetened London fog. They go perfectly together because the glaze is sweet and the earl gray tea with oat milk is so creamy. The vegan donuts come in either glazed or chocolate and they are a raised donut made with sweet potatoes so they are both rich and light. They are so popular and I do wish they made more flavors and didn't sell out so often. The people who work there are always friendly and greet each customer who walks in. Also they serve Equator coffee so if I'm not getting a London fog I like their cold Brew. It's super flavorful and fruity. Get there early or call ahead to get the flavors you want. You can even order on the phone and go pick up your box as take away. They wrap everything up so cute and tidy just like the aesthetic of the cafe.

Jesica D.

Yelp
Super excited to try this place!!! Finally got there and there wasn't a line around the building. Get ready for the thickest, dense sugary over load you could imagine!!! The flavor was delicious, however overwhelming of sugar over load for my tastebuds - even though I'm a sucker for doughnuts l! But worth a try and special treat of course!!! I could not decide on what flavors so I got a dozen! Get ready to splurge and drop off change on a dozen. I walked out with a dozen for $50 of fancy doughnuts for the family heheheh.

John C.

Yelp
revisited because my friend paid for my donut and coffee. Coffee was good! Attitude from servers and donuts themselves, just as dry. First off, Sunday...No one there! donuts....always a poor selection, and if you say something to the effect, you get a poor response. and then , please TIP US because we handed you a donut and rang you up! Wow, that's exceptional service. Needless to say, Tans is better, one block to the south. No, it doesn't have the atmosphere, but who wants to hang in a place that has such bad energy.
google avatar

Morgan P.

Yelp
I frequent the Larkspur location but wanted to bring mom for doughnuts after a wonderful stay at Sonoma Mission Inn, and this was the closest location! This store is expansive with plenty of seating and makes me wish I was a local college student because I would absolutely make this my normal hangout to sip on nice strong equator cold brew and munching on whatever the seasonal doughnut is. This location did not disappoint in variety or quality, as always, delicious, thick and dreamy.

Yelp
So it's 6/4/2021 and it's National Donut Day!! Not wanting to be unpatriotic, I tried Johnny's Donuts in Santa Rosa California on 4th Street for the first time. Plenty of on street parking can be found, but watch for fast traffic because 4th Street is a busy thoroughfare. The building is clean and inviting with a retro black and white paint job. The inside is done in a mod deco style that reminds me of a cross between an old bakery and a pharmacy soda shop. Walking up to the display counter that is far from the generic donut case of other places, it's plain to see that what is being served is far from plain. Sure there's an assortment of the familiar "bars, old fashioned, filled, glazed" treats, but it's clear that they look bigger, taller and maybe fluffier. As much as I would have wanted to try one of everything, this review is from one bite of the "Browned Butter" glazed donut. It's basically huge. It's tall and fluffy and pretty much an exercise in how far your jaw can stretch in order to get that first bite. The texture was light, fluffy, and chewy. The flavor of the glaze was vanilla forward with a light caramel warm note, probably from the brown butter. The ratio of glaze to donut was weighted heavier on the glaze side, but isn't that what we want out of a glazed donut? It was quite tasty! A great way to participate in National Donut Day! Now an FYI to the dear readers who haven't been here before. You might want to look at the price per donut before casually ordering two dozen to go. Ummm...they "add up" quite quickly. My own measure on the "worth it" scale is this- If I had to choose 2 Krispy Kreme glazed raised donuts or one of the Browned Butter donuts I had today (because that would be about a fair cost comparison)...well I would have to pick the two Krispy Kreme over this one. I mean, it's good...it's delicious even! BUT- me not being a donut "purist" the super special-ness of this particular donut didn't hit the "worth it" meter quite so high. Now please know that this is just one donut and one person's review. Safe to say I do recommend you do try Johnny's Donuts and decide for yourself! It feels good to get out of the house and support our local businesses, and each other! Thank you to all who play a role big and small to getting us back out into our communities!! I look forward to seeing you on National Muffuletta Day! And if you got a hot tip on where the best is- please share the info!!

Yelp
I came here on opening day, and the owner, Craig Blum was there to greet everyone. So sweet! It's really astounding that his idea to start a food truck became such a beloved brand. I love a good food truck story. It's a bay area business, with its first location in Sonoma County - and what a treat! It's a little bit dangerous though. I live so close from it, but the smiling employees behind the counter are just such a joy. The donuts are huge by the way, I ate half for breakfast and half for lunch. I picked up a couple to share with friends, because there's usually a line around 11 am. I've been noticing that they've been selling out too, so early risers are in luck! Everything inside looks absolutely pristine. The donuts I am made with a little bit of potato so that it creates an awesome chewy texture to the raised doughnut and the cronut. I didn't try the old fashioned, because I mainly don't prefer them, but I have friends that tell me they're their favorite donuts. I'll pass, but want to try the vegan donut! The bismark I got was filled with raspberry jam preserves, and they taste freshly made! I like that the flavors change based on seasonality, and they say that they use local ingredients. It sure looks like it. I haven't eaten donuts in a really long time, but I think about these beauties so often bc they're so pretty and tasty! I'll be back, and these make great treats for friends :)

Yelp
Underwhelming doughnuts. I havent found a place in santa rosa that has both good coffee and doughnuts its either good coffee with bad doughnuts or bad coffee with good doughnuts. Than you have johnny doughnuts which is bad coffee followed by underwhelming doughnuts

Yelp
What a beautiful donut shop, big, clean and modern. Did not realize this is a chain, looks to be Bay Area based. A bit expensive, and the donuts I bought were just okay (maple bar, vanilla glazed old fashion, and glazed cinnamon twist). This was the closest shop to my hotel in Santa Rosa so did not have much time to check all reviews and hunt for a donut shop.

Yelp
Honestly, it's been a while since I've had johnnys because the prices have gotten so wildly out of control. $72 on door dash for a dozen doughnuts. 100 by the time you add services fees. You may have high end doughnuts but certainly not worth this.

Yelp
The doughnuts are okay, not much of a selection and way overpriced.. it has a nice space and the staff are friendly
