The 24 Best Sandwiches In London

"In the pantheon of great sandwiches, a golden-fried schnitzel stands high on the podium. And, if you’re after a handful, then a trip to Johnny Schnitzel is very much worth your while. The idyllic deli sits on a quiet corner between Islington and Clerkenwell, but nothing about these brutish focaccia sandwiches is particularly subtle. The bread is doughy and flecked with olives, the pounded meat crispy and tender, and a handful of mayo-slathered crunchy slaw the perfect foil for this KO of a sandwich." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Johnny Schnitzel - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

Really glad I stumbled on this shop! A nice little corner shop nestled away from the pandemonium of Kings Cross station. Beautifully made schnitzel sandwiches and salads and super friendly staff. The deli has an arrangement of food that suits lunch time. Take away or eat there on one of the tables out the front. I had a pesto schnitzel pasta salad, the pesto was delicious and tasted home made.

📍Place: it's located in a lovely neighborhood, definitely not a tourist place as it's not that easy to get here. It's a small place, mainly serves for take away, but also has some tables outside. 🍛 Food: the sandwiches are HUGE and massive. It's definitely enough for 2 people. I had the J. Schnitzel Special with coleslaw, cheese, lettuce, mayo, schnitzel all in a focaccia. It is super fresh, soft, juicy and full of flavours. Coastwise they set you back around £11-13. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: everything is made freshly so you might need to wait a little, but nothing unbearable. The guy at the counter is kind and explains everything in case you have a question.

100% YUM! Service was lovely, atmosphere is super cute with outdoor seating available. The food was fantastic. I got the Bellissimo sandwich, olive bread, schnitzel of course, mozzarella, basil, pesto, genovese, rocket, and tomatoes. So filling, reasonably priced, and spectacular. I recommend and I will return!

Without doubt, no question at all, this is the best sandwich in London. Maybe perhaps even in the whole UK... The pinnacle of your local Italian deli, you are welcomed with attentive, friendly service; provided with a dazzling array of top quality imported groceries; and the aroma of traditional Italian espresso. However, the stars of the show are the door stop sandwiches - freshly and lovingly made to order with top quality ingredients, the variations on chicken cutlet on focaccia are to die for. Packed so high and so large, you need to warm up your jaw muscles for that first bite, the quality shines throughout the whole experience - you will not go wanting. I can and do easily recommend the Johnny Schnitzel Stack, Special or Gourmet options. Absolutely worth the detour to come to this local deli, you will not be disappointed. As strong as a recommendation I can possibly make, Johnny Schnitzel is the Spot, the Real Deal, el Presidente, la grande fromage, numero uno - your insta and your stomach will thank you for it!

One of London's best kept secrets. Try the special - you'll thank me later. Their famous chicken schnitzel with melted cheese and homemade coleslaw served on a toasted olive focaccia - absolutely superb and worth the price especially when it arrived and was as big as my own head!! Definitely worth the trip to King's Cross just to check out.

The photo doesn't even begin to do this sandwich justice! It was incredible... The double layered schnitzel was so tasty and very filling! They also have deli style items for sale but the schnitzel sandwich was the highlight. 😁

The best food and produce at a great affordable price. There is no indoor seating but that has never bothered me. I’ve gone in all seasons and returned multiples times to this place over the past two or three years and it’s always fab. Salads and schnitzel sandwiches are 10/10 I recommend to anyone going even near Angel or Islington to stop by.
