The 24 Best Sandwiches In London - London - The Infatuation

"In the pantheon of great sandwiches, a golden-fried schnitzel stands high on the podium. And, if you’re after a handful, then pay Johnny Schnitzel a visit. The deli sits on a quiet corner between Islington and Clerkenwell. The bread is doughy and flecked with olives, the pounded meat crispy and tender, and a handful of mayo-slathered crunchy slaw the perfect foil for this KO of a sandwich." - jake missing, rianne shlebak, sinead cranna

Johnny Schnitzel - Review - Islington - London - The Infatuation

"A golden, fried schnitzel stands high on the podium in the pantheon of great sandwiches. And if you’re after a handful, then a trip to Johnny Schnitzel is very much worth your while. The idyllic deli sits on a quiet corner between Islington and Clerkenwell and, with a few tables outside, is an excellent choice for a not-light lunch. Nothing about these brutish focaccia sandwiches are subtle. The bread is doughy and flecked with olives, the pounded meat crispy and tender, and a pile of mayo-slathered, crunchy slaw the perfect foil for this KO of a sandwich." - Jake Missing

This deli is within walking distance from my office so I’ve bought lunch from them for a fair few times. I usually go for their “Johnny Schnitzel Special”, it has been consistently delicious, always very generously filled, a good balance of lots of chicken and lots of coleslaw. I had their sandwich with prosciutto once and that was slightly too rich / intense for me as work lunch (also because of its large portion size as well…), but I definitely enjoyed the flavours a lot. Hints & tips - try to go before 12:10, otherwise the queue could get a little long. Worth the wait though 😎

📍Place: it's located in a lovely neighborhood, definitely not a tourist place as it's not that easy to get here. It's a small place, mainly serves for take away, but also has some tables outside. 🍛 Food: the sandwiches are HUGE and massive. It's definitely enough for 2 people. I had the J. Schnitzel Special with coleslaw, cheese, lettuce, mayo, schnitzel all in a focaccia. It is super fresh, soft, juicy and full of flavours. Coastwise they set you back around £11-13. 👩🏻‍🍳 Service: everything is made freshly so you might need to wait a little, but nothing unbearable. The guy at the counter is kind and explains everything in case you have a question.

I ordered the Johnny Schnitzel (£9.95) sandwich and it was ok. There was a decent amount of filling and the homemade slaw was good. It's a little disappointing that a place that prides itself on schnitzels just buys them in instead of making them. Wouldn't rush back.

Really glad I stumbled on this shop! A nice little corner shop nestled away from the pandemonium of Kings Cross station. Beautifully made schnitzel sandwiches and salads and super friendly staff. The deli has an arrangement of food that suits lunch time. Take away or eat there on one of the tables out the front. I had a pesto schnitzel pasta salad, the pesto was delicious and tasted home made.

This used to by my favourite spot, they used to make the most stupendous chicken focaccia- it used to be fresh, and saucy, garnished brilliantly, it used to be delicious. However as per my last visit- it has become horrendous. Perhaps it’s the rise of produce cost, and cutting corners, also they’ve halfed the size of chicken schnitzel, and now it tastes so unfresh and burnt due to the fact it being reheated and sometimes burnt I’ve attached an old photo when it used to be delicious n top class. I’ve also attached a photo from my most recent visit. This place used to be amazing but sadly it has dropped in quality dramatically. It’s sad to see prices go up and quality falls. Really hope they can improve the quality and climb back up again

Johnny Schnitzel serves some of the best sandwiches I’ve had in London. The flavors are bold, the bread is fresh, and every bite is packed with quality ingredients. A must-visit spot for anyone craving an outstanding sandwich experience.

Without a doubt the most reliably delicious sandwich in London. It can be a bit of a wait at peak times but that’s because we all keep coming back. The shop sits atop a hill so the sun is always shining on the outdoor seating.

A schnitzel sandwich that can make you smile from ear to ear? Weird opening line, I know. But that’s what happened. Schnitzel in general is one of those fairly formulaic, common things that is notoriously difficult to stuff up, and is usually of a standard that is common almost anywhere you go in the world. It is also difficult to find one that could be deemed elite. Then every so often you come across something that is special. Well I discovered precisely that in the back streets of Angel / Kings Cross in London, at Johnny Schnitzel. What a place. A providor/caterer with much to offer to those of quality taste, I went in specifically to try the schnitzel sandwiches. I settled on the J Schnitzel Special, and my word it matched those expectations. It was special indeed. The service was excellent and friendly. It was efficient as well, despite everything being made fresh. The schnitzel itself was so fresh that upon first eating I burnt myself in a mad rush to consume what smelt like an absolute treat. I will even admit to something embarrassing. I had intended to post this yesterday, but I ate the sandwich so quickly, I forgot to take photos… Such was my inability to stop eating once I started. Remember we are talking about a chicken schnitzel sandwich here. It should be pretty standard. This is anything but. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Just get here, try it. Eat every single thing they have here, it is amazing. I’ve come for two consecutive lunches… there could be more.
