The general tso's was crispy, but it had little flavor other than "sweet". The pad Thai was extremely egg heavy, the pad see ew was supposed to come with thick rice noodles and vegetables, but there were only a few broccoli spears amidst the plate of salty yet cloyingly sweet fettuccini. The Thai basil with chicken was ok but very salty. Interesting take to blend the basil into the sauce rather than add it straight to the dish. Our soup appetizers were ok. We kept hearing the characteristic "beep beep beep" of a microwave and we joked they were heating our soup up, then moments later the bowls of warm (not hot) soup came out. Even if they were microwaved they were tasty. The martinis were boosted to be the biggest around, but when they arrived they were normal sized. The flavors were unique and fun, but the only thing that was large about them was the price. Definitely have sticker shock and honestly buyer's remorse. Also...$6 for a glass of diet Pepsi? Still a little stunned by that. The service was good, no complaints there. I don't remember the price of a side of rice but the small ½cup of rice that came was paltry.

We were blown away with how great everything was. We were expecting a dive bar, but it was very nice and modern restaurant and bar. I was skeptical of Thai food in Ptown because I grew up with great food at my family's Chinese restaurant. Food was so delicious and honestly the best Thai food I've ever had. We had the Thai Tuna Tartare, House Pad Thai, and the Thai Peanut Chicken. My dad makes a pretty good Pad Thai, but the House Pad Thai blows his out of the water. Shhh! Don't tell him! There were chunks of beef that fell apart, not the typical thinly sliced flank steak. The calamari were also super tender, not rubbery at all. Absolutely delicious and great portion sizes. The food also came out really quick, which is a sign of a great Asian restaurant. We also got Thai Tea and the double espresso martini and they were great as well. My fiancée said the espresso martini was the best he ever had, beating out our favorite spot back home. Cannot recommend this place enough!

Google
The food was good. I was not a fan of the bottle of Pellegrino being $15, in a store barely $3.50, the up charge is insane. We got food and thought about martinis but decided against it because we could walk down the street and have one for $5 less just as strong.

Google
Amazing food , Singapore rice noodles my favorites and their CRAB RANGON is so good, also their drinks ,coconut espresso martini 🫶 and their staff is super nice ! You need to try it if you visit PTown .

Elliot Young

Google
I ordered a take out from them , they put the food that had oily sauce in a paper container without letting me know, it soaked through the container into my bag and stained all my personal items and clothing , the sauce ran on my leg down to my sneakers and burned me as soon as I took out the food from my bag . when I got home, all of the food fell through the soaked paper container onto my floor. When I called to complain , they told me they were gonna have the manager call me back on the same day , but they never did . ------------ To the owner who replied 1. I DID NOT call the person an idiot , I said “it’s the stupidest idea to put liquidish food in a paper container.” Would you put a soup in a paper container???So don’t twist my words here. 2. Not just paper container, you put everything in a paper bag too , it doesn’t matter if I put in my bag or not ,, It would NOT change the result—all the food fell through the paper bag eventually onto my floor because the paper bag and the container were all soaked through and broke, It all went to waste, yes of course I tried to dispute my charge. 3. This justification of yours is a total fail, you need to work on your logic first.

Got seseme chicken and sweet and sour chicken. Called out of work today with food poisoning. My friend that went with me is sick also.Stay away!

Google
Their martini menu is off the charts. I had the panang curry with chicken. Very delicious. Our server was really sweet. She chatted with my friends and me and gave us some insight on the area. I wish her well on completing her college degree. My friends all ordered different martinis so we all could sample. Great experience. Ambiance was good. We ate rather late so it was not that crowded for a Sunday night.

Abhi Reddy Dandu

Google
Great place for drinks and appetizers. I have not tried their main courses. But the ambience and drinks are extremely good. Very quick service and quality drinks! Will visit again

Yelp
Johnny Thai is great, right next to the monkey bar. The food is amazing, very authentic Thai and other Asian food. Drinks are great too. I highly recommend you visit if you are in ptown

Yelp
Came here because my partner had great experiences in the past. Cocktails were on point and boozy the way I like 'em. Got the inside scoop from one of the bartenders (Duffy) at the adjoining Monkey Bar about what he recommended on the menu and he was spot-on about the Khao Soi Chicken (great Thai flavors bouncing around my mouth with satisfying noodles, some fried/crunchy, and some traditional). As an appetizer we had an order each of tuna and eel sashimi, both had substantial slices of fish with perfectly prepared rice. So enjoyable, and Johnny and David were so gracious. Can't wait to come back!

Dale G.

Yelp
This restaurant doesn't know ANYTHING about Thai food. We were so disappointed by both of our dishes. The curries were bland and unrecognizable. The lack of flavor made them inedible. The serving staff was friendly and sweet although we received the wrong dish and even though we didn't make them take it back, we should have. The prices were high for the product we got. Also 2 club sodas from their fountain were $10. On a good note, the sushi roll was delicious, so all was not lost.

John C.

Yelp
Insanely expensive, small portions, and the food taste is way off. Gone to some nicer Thai restaurants over the years and this was terrible. $15 for 3 spring rolls ??!

Christopher V.

Yelp
$26 cocktail and running out of ingredients mid-August because the establishment will be closing for the season on Labor Day. While the food was good, I don't understand how one can run a restaurant this way. It is unlikely I will repeat any time soon.

Scott C.

Yelp
We came here for lunch and had a pleasant experience. We tried both a Thai entree and a sushi special. The sushi was good, basic, no complaints. The Thai peanut chicken was fantastic -- fresh, lively flavors. Service was friendly (we were one of few tables, so there was no servicing stress). The only downside here is the pricing -- a bit on the high side for the food portion size and quality.

Amy C.

Yelp
Well. It wasn't great. The vibe is much more cocktail bar than dining. Steamed dumplings were soggy, peanut chicken tasted like jif, general Taos chicken was just tenders with sweet n sour sauce. Not a great lunch. Service was very nice and they did remove an item sent back. Would stick with cocktails

Yelp
We had dinner here last night. I was a little hesitant after having read all the Yelp reviews. My friends have been eaten here before, but I was not totally reassured. But I was pleasantly surprised in the end. The restaurant is actually part of the Monkey Bar. There is no separation between the bar and the dining area. The ambiance was dark as befitting of a bar. We were a group of 5 and were seated in the back. Our server was actually the same guy who waited on us at the Crown and Anchor the night before! He was great--he was very attentive and gave his recommendations on drinks and food items. The drink menu was extensive. The martini list was itself a whole back side of a menu page. I got the dragon fruit cosmo martini, which was our server's recommendation. It was good! Now the food... the menu was a bit overwhelming. Thai is not the only cuisine that is offered. They also have Mexican, Chinese, and everything in between. We started off with some appetizers: calamari, vegetarian spring rolls and the pot stickers. The calamari was nothing worth mentioning. The spring rolls were sort of mushy on the inside, and perhaps a bit overcooked. The pot stickers were good, but like everything else, were overpriced for what they were. Yes... everything on the menu was in my opinion on the high end for Americanized Asian food. I would expect this price point at a trendier upscale fusion establishment, but this was basically a bar restaurant. I had the Nasi Goreng (Indonesian style fried rice) with "jumbo" shrimp. I was happy to see that the portion size was huge because again, I wasn't too thrilled about the price ($18 for the fried rice plus another $6 to upgrade the meat to "jumbo" shrimp (which was not really jumbo). The taste was okay. The place was dead when we we got there at 6:30 pm, but picked up by the time we left for our show (around 8:15 pm). While the food was okay and service excellent, Johnny Thai Bistro does not make my list of restaurants to visit while in P-town.

Ernie B.

Yelp
Honestly Johnny thai is the meal I look forward to most when I come to Provincetown. The khao soi northern Thai noodle dish is spicy and so so good, but I have never had a bad meal here. The drinks are fancy and pricey but it's the food that is great.

Michael K.

Yelp
Whatever you read from 3 years ago, don't believe it anymore. This place is beautiful inside. Very chic and comfortable and any type of martinis you can think of. The food is delicious. The service is excellent. The atmosphere is very inviting. I will recommend this place to all my friends.

John C.

Yelp
Definitely the most expensive least tasty Thai food I've had in my life. I had the massaman curry and it was just bland. No spice, no richness, it even needed salt! Hubby got the Thai Basil. Also tasteless. They didn't even have a spice tray to kick things up. To top it off it was $25 a dish...for Thai food. The decor and music are the only things that were great so giving it an extra star. Would not recommend for food. Maybe come here for a drink.

Josh B.

Yelp
I'm not sure why all the negative reviews but I can honesty say I was impressed with this little restaurant located right behind the Monkey Bar. We did arrive at 11pm so the menu was smaller to order from than the regular menu. I didn't know what to expect after having to wait for ten minutes to be seated but we ended up sitting ourselves. After that we got a young male waiter and he was on top of everything from refills to bringing us whatever we needed. We ordered the Ptown roll and the crab Rangoon's which my boyfriend said were the best he's ever had. I was very impressed by this place. 5 stars for sure.

Anthony G.

Yelp
I am going to be kind with this review, really, I could be much more difficult. Things started out nice, which made sense because when we walked in to the very dark place, we were the only customers. The host and waiter were very nice. But then . . . We ordered dumplings and I didn't have any but they were soggy messes, looking more like tripe than dumplings. When we politely said they were not so good, soggy, the host insisted that that's the way steamed dumplings are. NO, THEY ARE NOT. Annoyed, he took them away and, in the end, didn't charged us for them. My wonton soup was salty but OK. I got chicken in peanut sauce. There was a lot of it, but again not all that great. The seared tuna on a bed of iceberg lettuce was again, soggy, and bland, but the dressing was tasty. As I stated, the restaurant is very dark, and that's good because you really can't see how iffy the food is. The place we wanted to go was closed on Tuesday night so this seemed like a benign choice. WRONG CHOICE. This was a fair review, and consistent with many others. Johnny, get with it or just be a bar. The bar looked like it could be fun, as fun as a bunch of monkeys are. But monkeys would be smart enough to order in pizza.

Bilbo L.

Yelp
The food is simply awful. They should take "Thai" off the name, coz it's not even Asian food. Ordered Thai Basil Chicken which turned out a mix of random veggies with random ground meat, without any basil though. 20% mandatory gratuity makes the restaurant a bigger joke.

Butch H.

Yelp
After a few cocktails at Monkey Bar my friend and I were lured to Johnny Thai for a meal. We started with fried shrimp dumplings and I have to say, fried is the way to go. They were fantastic. We each ordered a bowl, mine had chicken, shrimp and mixed veg with a sweet, not to spicy Thai chili sauce. The meal was perfect.

Rbear C.

Yelp
SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED WOW THE WORST THAI FOOD I EVER GROSSLY OVERPAID FOR!!! So I came here very excited. All my Bear friends told me I had to go. I ordered some staples that I've had many times. The shrimp soup with galangal was way too acidic, even for me. The real disappointment was the Thai Chicken Basil. Dryer than dry,and served with a fried egg that was so overdone I put it to the side. None of the spice and flavor I expected from this dish. The priciness of this restaurant would lead me to believe that more care would go into their dishes. What I got I'd never pay for again.

Christian T.

Yelp
Great service and Atmosphere. The go to spot for Thai staple in Ptown. The drink selection is vast. Ask for recommendations. The lunch selection is yummy and portions are pretty big. My go to is the Crab Rangoon, Tom Kha Soup and Ginger chicken. Pair it with a classic Me Tao to cut the savory.

Chen H.

Yelp
Try to avoid this place at all cost - the food wasn't good by any standard, let alone asian food standard... We got a variety of food (sushi, pad Thai, and fried rice) and we could barely finish them - not because of the big portion, but because it was simply hard to eat ... The service also wasn't that good. We thought this would be a great spot based on the ratings, but was utterly disappointed.

Bill A.

Yelp
This is consistently our go to restaurant in P Town! We have been coming here for five years and have never been disappointed. The staff is great and the food if fantastic. Space is tight, but this is P Town and our fellow diners are typically very friendly. Love it!

L F.

Yelp
My friends were super excited when they saw a sign that advertized "sushi and taco happy hour" so this is where we went. Personally, I didn't particularly care for this combo, but I figured there should be something edible on the menu ;-) I have to say, the staff was incredibly nice and friendly. We ordered a round of drinks for $14 each, which is pricier than what we pay in Boston O_o The drinks were a little bit weak, but we didn't try to get tipsy so that was fine. Unfortunately, there are very few vegetarian choices on the happy hour menu so I ordered off the regular menu. My $14 veggie burrito came with fries and was surprisingly tasty considering this is supposed to be a Thai place. My friends loved the sushi rolls, spring rolls, crab rangoons, nachos, and tacos off the happy hour menu. While the menu did say "happy hour prices" the actual price difference seemed to only be about a dollar per item. In general, the restaurant seemed pretty expensive. I got away with a $14 burrito because it was vegetarian -- as soon as you add meat to any dish the prices skyrocket. There were dishes for $20+ which I can rarely justify. So while the food tasted good, I don't think it's quite worth the price and I'll look elsewhere next time I'm in town.

Jim S.

Yelp
You might want to avoid this place. Food was lousy. Restaurant was dark and creepy. I wouldn't go here again, ever.

Brent W.

Yelp
This Commercial street Mainstay has a ROCKIN' sushi happy hour every day from 3 to 6... 2 for 1 on all rolls and nigiri.... If you are a fan of spicy... DO NOT MISS the "Red Hot Chili Pepper" roll. Tuna, jalapenos, veggies, more tuna topped with eel sauce and hot sauce.... DELICIOSO! The staff is uber friendly and very well informed about the menu... not to mention the Cocktail list from the adjoining Monkey Bar... Please bring this concept to NYC!

Edward V.

Yelp
Wonderful! We come here every year and they treat us like gold! Food is excellent and service is outstanding!!!!!!

Aaron B.

Yelp
Three thoughts: 1) WAY overpriced ($24 for pad Thai?) 2) Bland, generic, and did I mention bland? 3) As we left, the music blaring over the speakers was Cher, appropriately singing: "If I could turn back time..."

Matt K.

Yelp
The fact that this place not only exists, but is located on the main strip of an otherwise lovely tourist destination is mind blowing. You might think that their exorbitant prices are justified by the fact that their portions are cartoonishly enormous. They are not. I felt genuine guilt as I dumped out what seemed like 5 pounds of Pad Thai back at the room. (I had only taken the rest home as a courtesy.) Admittedly, I found the restaurant's ambience and decor specious so I tried to play it safe with a classic Thai dish. Based on my experience, I can only imagine what some of their more experimental fusion dishes taste like. Probably like something from the Moon, because the Pad Thai that I had contained spices, flavors, and ingredients the likes of which no human has ever tasted in Pad Thai anywhere on this planet. And the drinks. I told my boyfriend to order me an Old Fashioned while I went to the bathroom. He later told me that that the waiter didn't understand the request: he had never heard of an Old Fashioned before. Both of our drinks were not only disgustingly strong, but literally painful to consume. The only redeeming part of our experience was turning the consumption of these drinks into a kind of dare. That and the fun we had watching people at other tables grimace whenever they took a sip of their own presumably unrecognizable concoctions. It was so unpleasant that it was almost comical. Comical until the bill came.

Tom S.

Yelp
I literally joined yelp to express how bad this restaurant is... Prices are ridiculously expensive. $9 for two pieces of sushi that would be $5 at the best sushi restaurants in Boston. $20 for chicken pad thai Service was terrible too. Won't be coming back, ever....

Marleena C.

Yelp
My husband and I really enjoy the food here and the drinks from the adjoining Monkey Bar! We come here every year and I always get myself a Singapore Sling which leaves me always a bit buzzed and order up one of my favorites: the Ahi Tuna sliders....yes, yes, a thousand times YES! The decor is fun, the service very good and the dish and drink names are a good time. I enjoy the Rihanna :) Will go back again next year!

Sutan A.

Yelp
I love the Monkey Bar which shares the same space! But the food by Johnny "Thai" bistro is shameful. It's sad that they feel the need to charge so high for "Thai", "Indonesian", "Malaysian", absolute slop! Disgusting

Tricia M.

Yelp
Believe the reviews. Literally the worst thai food I've ever had. Ordered the Thai curry. No idea what was in it. I know my curry and literally this was the bottom of the barrel. Not to mention, it was served with white rice not jasmine rice. and overpriced. What a waste.

Ryan R.

Yelp
Went here with some friends after Tea Dance to grab drinks and some food. For food, we decided to go with some sushi rolls, steak and chicken skewers, and the pad thai. Of all the food, the pad thai was definitely the best of the dishes. It actually had great flavor and really was a great dish. The other meal items were alright, but definitely not worth writing about. Overall, the service in this place was pretty good but the prices seemed to be pretty high considering the dishes. I know Ptown has a higher price point, but paying more than $20 for pad thai is a bit overkill if you ask me.

Yung D.

Yelp
The food was mediocre, the setting was loud and dark, because Monkey Bar is on the other side. Perhaps it was better dark so you can't see your food? The Pu-pu Platter was the most offensively priced appetiser when split among 3 people. We each literally got about one bite each from the samples. It was quite small and felt a bit much for $30. I had an ice tea which literally was tea in ice, but was charged $5 for it called Thai Ice Tea.....wow....I've never paid $5 for just tea in ice before. The seafood pad thai I had was okay, but certainly not the best by far. I'd save your money and go eat somewhere better.

John S.

Yelp
Coming from Manhattan we've been to our share of Thai places. Reviews here on yelp looked sorta mixed, but figured we'd give it a try. Food was great!. Ginger chicken outstanding, soups great, shrimp dishes fresh. Ginger chicken outstanding . Portions large. And huge cocktail menu from adjacent monkey bar. Engaging waitstaff made it fun too!

Remi C.

Yelp
EXPENSIVE! That's really the only thing that I have to say about it....the service was meh and the availability of some items was meh...but all of that was pretty average. What sets them up for failure is the exorbitant amount of money they are charging for food and drinks. Maybe if everything was 1/3 of the price, then i wouldn't feel cheated. Wait until you get back to a major city if you're desperate for sushi. I wouldn't bother with the prices here for what you get. On the other hand, if you just can't wait, then this place will suffice, just don't expect 4-5 star food, as the pricing suggests.

Bill S.

Yelp
The good was delicious and very fresh. It's a bit pricy but the portions are large. Love the vibe of a comfortable yet upscale place.

Robbie S.

Yelp
I love Thai food! I was very excited to be staying so close to this restaurant. Sadly, it was the worst Thai food I've ever had. Ketchup over spaghetti would have been an improvement (and that's close to what my Pad Thai tasted like). Just awful.

Matthew V.

Yelp
Service has always been great. Food is fresh and hot and flavorful. They produce some of the best orange chicken I've ever had.

Darion L.

Yelp
The food is FANTASTIC! I had amazing Thai as did my friends. The sushi looked good too. Honestly do not understand the negative reviews. It's sooo tasty! Portions are big and food is fresh! Stiff drinks too!

Martin K.

Yelp
The lychee martini came out blue and either they wouldn't cop up to making it wrong or their receipe is just gross. Most the food was just okay at best. My hot and sour soup was too thick and the broth wasn't clear as it should be. Lettuce wraps were okay but a lot more onion than usual. Short ribs appetizer was actually pretty good but too much sauce. Every dish had something wrong with it. Can't recommend.

Ankita D.

Yelp
Worst food ever. Waitress Jessica was extremely rude. We didn't like her service nor the food, thus we didn't have her tip. So she followed us out of the restaurant with the check to ask for tip. How ridiculous can that be?!! Not recommended at all. The food and service sucks big time.. #soAnnoyed

Heather H.

Yelp
You're going to walk in and think it's expensive. You're going to walk in and scoff at those prices. You're going to walk in and wonder if you should walk out. Please: stay anyway. I have never in my life had tom kai gai soup with the rich depth of flavor as that soup, and I've had a lot of different tom kai gais in my time. My boyfriend's meal was just as spectacular. The ambiance is fun, the music enjoyable, the staff exceptionally sweet and friendly. The drinks were delicious. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. We're locals here and it's high on the list of the best food in town.

Thawdar K.

Yelp
This place is horrible, I wish I could give zero star. They don't even know how to make Phat Thai, the noodles came out very rubbery and saucegy. Over charges Price on all foods. and the waitress will change you minimum of 20% tip on your bill without notice. She will give you unnecessary sweet-talk and give you horrible food with overcharged. WATCH OUT EVERYONE!!

Mika E.

Yelp
I haven't had the food, so this review is just for the Monkey Bar. It's my favorite bar in PTown, never too loud, great drinks and friendly bartenders. I like that the bar itself is tiny everyone seems to talk to each other. Great place to meet people.

Jay A.

Yelp
We stopped in for a mid afternoon drink and snack and were too early for the 3pm happy hour snacks. Sadly all it would have done was knock off a dollar. The Thai guacamole had a good kick to it and the Thai crispy chicken wraps were very tasty. I could not believe that a martini was $18. Way too expensive and my partner said it didn't have a lot of flavor. The atmosphere was dark and very 80s. It didn't feel open and airy like most places here are. Though they did have dance video music tv on. Not overly impressed

Sam R.

Yelp
Has to be the worst Thai food i've ever eaten - shocking bad pad thai made with tomato sauce!! And the red curry chicken was more like coconut onion. Steer away from this place, such a rip off too - was $120 for dinner for 2 - an absolute joke. I can't believe Americans think this place is good. I mean $27 for a pad thai?! $17 for a cocktail when much more fancy places are $9.50 on commercial road. Oh and don't expect to get a beach view - you can see someones backyard and cars there.

Peter K.

Yelp
The sushi is great, as are the drinks, but I'm not a fan of their thai food. It's a very different flavor from other thai places. I usually like things that are different of have their own unique twist, but this one was not my favorite. But check it out yourself. I do love the place. The staff and customers are lots of fun

Emily G.

Yelp
Overpriced, mediocre food. Peanut sauce on the entrees is very sugary. Sushi was very bland, especially the tempura sushi. Wouldn't go back.

Sara F.

Yelp
WORST FOOD!!! Do not go! A piece of plastic in the calamari and the rice was sour and bitter! Fish was so nasty! Do not go!!!!!!!!!! SOOO AWFUL!!! I couldn't eat any Asian food for a little while after cause it grossed me out!

Jeffrey L.

Yelp
Way, way overpriced for what you get. $25 for pad Thai is just ridiculous. The only reason they get two stars is that there are often Groupons for $20 for $40 worth of food. So many other finer places to eat the Provincetown.

Neil F.

Yelp
Bought the Groupon... Food was good... Very pricey on food and drinks =-(
