Johnny's Big Burger

Classic, chill diner, full of nostalgia. Great prices. Good service. Good burger! I've been hearing a lot about it, and it didn't disappoint. One more local spot in the books. My only rubs were that the burger and fries were bland (nothing seemed to have any real seasoning), and the staff may have smiled at me once (only noticed because I sat at the bar facing the grill watching everything). Other than that, it would have been 5 stars! I'm sure I'll be back to give this experience an update!

I decided to try this place out since moving into Austin Peay this year. I was blown away at how good my burger and fries were. When I came in I was greeted almost instantly and the server asked me for my drink order. The server was really sweet and even asked me if I would like more tea for the road when I went to pay. The grill cook came over and asked if everything tasted well and it did. I am very pleased with my overall experience here. Fast service, good food, and a good time!! I will return here!!

I hadn't been to Clarksville since 2019, but I got into town I headed straight to Johnny's, and it didn't disappoint. The burgers were even better than I remembered them!

Had heard they had a good burger, We were in the area & dropped in. Plenty of seats, but we sat at the bar, then realized we had no cash (it's Cash only). Ran to bank, came back, and the place was nearly packed! We know why! The burgers were amazing! Sweet tea was perfect. Worth running for cash! (Yes, there is an ATM machine on site)

The food here is SO GOOD. If you’re looking to get some old fashioned burgers, THIS is it. Prices are excellent. I usually never finish a burger when I get one, but here I am able to eat a whole double cheeseburger with thick cut bacon AND their ice cream honeybun (which by the way is a delight). Johnny’s big burger is hands down the best burger place in town. 🍔🤤

The parking was terrible. I hit the curb trying to get into there but the burger & fries was good. I give it a 8/10. It was be better if they would season the beef with a little, salt, pepper, & garlic. That’s all.

Our waitress was awesome! Food was fantastic. The only thing I didn't like was no menus. Would definitely eat here again. The bill was very low for the quality of the food and great service. Not many places can 4-5 people eat for around 50 bucks.

I visited with my wife in early December. I remember going here with an old buddy of mine some years back. And just had to have it again. It’s cash only but I luckily had the exact amount required in my wallet! I got a Double Bacon Cheeseburger with an egg which was delicious! The burger was nice,thick and super juicy. The egg was perfectly cooked, yolk still gooey! And my fries and onion rings were also cooked to perfection. My wife got a BLT and she enjoyed it! The sides come unsalted so you’ll have to salt your sides yourself! We wanted to try the fried honeybun but we were full, so thats our Goal next time we visit to try that because it looks delicious!

Great place with a great breakfast. We were visiting our daughter and brought our grandson in. Chicken fried steak and pancakes. It was great

This place is a Clarksville classic. A must if you're in the mood for a fantastic hamburger. The service is old fashioned and excellent. The grill is right in the front and you can see the cooks hard at work making the burgers. The ambiance is rustic and almost "diner car" feeling. If you're going for lunch, make sure you get there early. This place gets packed!

This place isn't fancy but it's GOOD! The prices are very reasonable and the food is prepared quickly. It's the perfect place to go when you're just in the mood for a burger but don't want to spend $15+ on one. It's right across from Austin Peay University, so it's the perfect place for college students. As others have said, it's cash only so be prepared for that.

local historic burger place in the heart of downtown. Is it as good as 5 guys? no but you'll have some money to spend on other things.

You want a friendly, responsibly price and good food place to eat? Well look no further. This place is it. Not only do they have AMAZING breakfast but their lunches are good too. The place is bigger than what it looks from the outside so don't let that turn you away. Every time we've been in there it's always been clean. You get a lot of regulars in there. But it's not loud and no one is rude. Service has always been great. I honestly don't know what I'd recommend cause, everything we've tried there has been good. But give them a try y'all

What makes food good ? It's how you treat it. When you take humble ingredients and turn them into something that warms your soul. It could be pigs feet and oxtails in one place but at Johnny's, it's burgers! The burgers are made to order and have juicy, well cooked patties. The fries are crispy, not greasy, and well seasoned. The honey bun with ice cream was a nice dessert and not too filling. We were greeted by the owner behind the counter when we came in and service was as expected. Bottom line. Johnny's Big Burger makes their food with care. Or as I like to say, with soul.

Cool old time grill and counter service. Seems like staff all wanted to be somewhere else, college town on a Sat afternoon, I get that part. Never got to eat the burger, counter help couldn't get basic order right, staff at grill never asked to clarify the mess she wrote down, they even talked about it, "well I guess this what she wrote". Wasted 20 min of my time and acted as if they did me a favor. Facts. Old, dirty, greasy with subpar ingredients and service. I guess what makes them famous is grilling a honey bun on the flattop. Honestly, nothing special here unless you are waxing poetic & back in the day went to school at AP and rolled in to try and loose your hangover after a night of drinking. Go to Kelly's, or one of the 30 other chain burger places around town. It will save you time, bellyaching and a trip to the ATM. (Cash only, who even caries cash, get with the times Jethroe).

I definitely have to agree with the award for best burger and the hype for this gem that has been around longer than even I have. We sent an exchange student there to try it as well from APSU and he absolutely loved it. Definitely the best burger in Clarksville and I hope it remains that way for many many more years! Thank you again! Not only are the burgers amazing but the price is as well!

The absolute best and freshest hamburgers in Clarksville! Enjoyed every bite of my triple cheeseburger and fries and onion rings as an appetizer. Family enjoyed their burgers as well. Full strips of bacon and fresh lettuce, tomatoes, pickles and onions made every bite good. Meat was not greasy like some fast food establishments. The honey bun and ice cream was good but, its ice cream on top of a warmed honey bun. I will say the ice cream was not the cheap, basic plain vanilla (it was very good and flavorful) and the honey bun was heated to a perfectly warm and delightful temperature. It was tasty and a "check in the box" for Clarksville fan favorites, but didn't excite me personally. I would definitely eat it again but the delicious fresh and juicy cheeseburgers will be what brings me back - for sure! Quality was superb - food was delicious and no one at our table had a single complaint. Restaurant was very clean and servers extremely nice. I like the cash-only policy. It was nice to give a cash tip to our server. No need for menus, they had their menu on the wall. They keep things simple and do what they do to perfection. This was a most delightful dining experience!

Best burgers in town! It's an old building, but that's half the charm. If you visit often enough, the staff knows "your usual". It's cash only, but they have an ATM inside.

After being under the weather for a month (now better) and asking my wife to go out to dinner - - the only place she said "ok" to was Johnny's Big Burger. So I drove there and did a take out order for a double and single bacon cheese burger with 3 orders of fries. Calmly waited 15 minutes and a hot bag arrived at the counter - paid - got home and dug in. These burgers are supreme AAA+ excellent meat that makes you feel good afterwards, not sick like big name fast food joints do. The next day we are still talking to each other about how great our Johnny's take out was. An equal plus is the staff that works at Johnny's - from the cooks who took my order at the counter to the ladies running the table and cash register. They are always very nice and make your day better. Best burger anywhere - Johnny's Big Burger.

Best burger in Clarksville! Cooked to order and great flavor! Bring cash. FYI, get your order in well before closing time because they often start cleaning 45min or sooner before closing.

Oh my what a lil gem!!! Cash Only!!!! So be prepared. The service and food was amazing. It's kind of got an old diner feel. Will definitely be back to this one.

Johnny's is and always will be nostalgia for a whole generation! Generous amounts of fries to go with that fresh off the grill burger at a fair price for late night college students! I am glad some things never change!

Haven't been to Johnnys since my wee younger years but when we were in town and my parents electricity was out we needed somewhere to eat dinner. Johnnys it was! And what better than it being my mom and kids first time! We all enjoyed our burgers, fries, and we had to finish the night with a bun and cream! Just as good as I remember.

Good ole double burger. Pretty big serving. Classic place that reminds me of the past. Great price They keep it simple... which is totally cool.

Upon reading the mostly positive reviews, we decided to pay this place a visit. Since it's across the street from APSU, it's very convenient if you want to grab a bite to eat. We walked in and sat at the bar, maybe two or three other parties in the entire place. The younger man working there did not look up or disengage his conversation with his attractive patron for a second. The older cook made eye contact with us, which was better than nothing. Since we sat for there for a few mins with no acknowledgement with a party of three we decided to move into the sit down area, thinking we possibly were not following protocol we were unaware of. We sat in the seating area for under 10 mins. Literally as I asked my family to pack up, our server showed up and apologized for the delay. We ordered two large burgers and a fried chicken sandwich. Burgers came out hot. Very large portions. Downside? Completely unseasoned ground beef. Zero flavor, which I have honestly never before experienced :/. Chicken sandwich came out 10-15 mins later as we were getting ready to leave. My wife had to wait about five mins at the register for the staff to return from their break outside in order to pay. Everyone wants to get paid right? *By the way they only take cash* In total, the large portions of meat and fries cannot overcome the lack of urgency and customer service at the moment. Basics: Greeting or acknowledging customers, taking their orders, being available for the register are just plain basics. Lots of room for improvement for sure.

This business is very inviting and employees are very nice! The food is absolutely delicious and well worth the money! I highly recommend this eatery and will continue to eat here as well as recommend it to others!

Newbie alert! This burger spot is around the corner from my house and it is a gem!!! OMG I was craving a cheeseburger for some odd reason cause I am not even a burger person but anywho.. I asked my husband could he go there for lunch and grab us some burgers. He did and we love them. He stated that the service was awesome! Friendly staff. And the burgers were the bomb.com! Definitely will be visiting again!

I enjoy getting breakfast there, and the burgers are great. Service is never found wanting and I've never left hungry. Great food, fair prices, friendly service, and good hours all come together to make this a great place to grab a meal! I definitely recommend!

Johnny's is a Clarksville Classic; there is no doubt about it. I have eaten here for a week straight before and it never got old. The flavor of their burgers is simple; and in it's simplicity it is wonderful. I do wish they had real malted milkshakes, but it's something I can get over.

I would honestly probably put this right in the center at 2.5 stars. Service was good and our food was cooked quickly. The burger was mediocre tasting, the fries are crinkle fries and unfortunately they tasted the same as they do when I cook crinkle fries at home in the oven. They're famous for the honeybun with ice cream on top, but unfortunately even this isn't homemade, but rather the packaged one from the store, grilled, with vanilla ice cream on top. It's good, but nothing I couldn't make at home for a lot less money. The ranch is also clearly store bought, not good, and the restroom, while clean, is in dire need of an upgrade. Felt like going into the port-a-potty version of a bathroom in the restaurant. Not certain if we will give this another try or not.

Spent a week in Boston and got back into yelping, and thought WOW I really haven't reviewed my local restaurants here. So here I go. We have been introduced to Johnnys by a co-worker when I moved back to Clarksville for work. On my first visit it was like oh the burgers are smaller and didnt think anything of it, but as I got into understanding the taste of meat, I came to appreciate Johnnys A LOT. The meat is fresh, never frozen. The veggies on it were always fresh, and their food and service is very consistent. I also love the old diner feel and vibe in there. Their fries are nothing to brag about but it pairs very well with the burger. Always freshly fried and crispy. Their honey bun with ice cream will definitely add to clogging your arteries but I consent to it. Its SOOOOO good~~ I mean its just honey buns and vanilla ice cream nothing else to it but why is it sooo good?!?!?? Anyhow, I always recommend out of towners or new Clarksvillians to try Johnny's Big Burger. I went to Shake Shack in Harvard Square up in Cambridge MA last week and Gabby's Burger in Nashville not too long ago, and I can say Johnnys Burger is better!

The food was large portion. I came here because I was trying to find a good burger spot being semi new here past 2 years. When I came in, sat at counter. Took lady few mins to get my drink, no big deal. Mixed up my order, gave me fries instead of onion rings. No big deal, didn't charge me for the mixup (thanks?). Onion rings had no flavor, kind of like the kind you would find at a generic grocery store. When I got my burger, 0 flavor. I mean come on.. Beef can only taste so .. beefy?.. No seasoning at all? Do they expect because it comes from a local farm, they don't need to season it? Burger was juicy and cooked well. I give them that. But, not worth deserving "best burger in town".. I had a better burger at BRGRS n More, even though they are more pricey. Please step up your game Johnnys, add some seasoning.. I want to give my money to local mom and pops, but please get better.

TREMENDOUS service, you start a conversation with the workers, you end up leaving there with a belly full & a belly bouncing from all that laughter!!

What a disappointment. Have heard the hype & was excited. Big burger??? Where? Thin, grissle ridden meat patty that didn't taste that great. Bun was falling apart. Fries tasted of old grease & were cooked to a strange texture. They were brownish in stead of golden. ZERO seasoning on them. Tea was decent - but not great. 3 in our party and none of us liked it. One couldn't eat her meal because it was actually making her nauseous. The bathroom is strange. There are 2 doors. No light above th stouter so it's a little dark in order to check if swat is wet first (you know we women do that). Server was pleasant enough. Although instead of serving us from the front of the table she was at the wall part of the booth. Between this place and Kelly's we will go back to Kelly's. Better selection of meals and taste is better. I'm really sad too. Also. Ever since lunch my gut has been unhappy with me. Such indigestion. Again. I'm really saddened this was just a really bad experience. Update. It's 2 days later & all 3 of us are still having stomach issues.

My daughter and granddaughter and I looking for a good hamburger while driving around through Clarkesville. Best hamburger and onion rings anywhere the people are very friendly very clean.

Loved this place when Johnny owned it, hoped all would stay the same But the truth is the meat is just grizzled and kinda falls apart when eating and bland and the fries are just not the same I've been back 4 or 5 times, always the same, I hoped it would get better My husband overheard a guy getting a haircut that the meat was a weird consistency On a good note, the Honeybun and ice cream is still good

Ok, these burgers are fantastic!!! Now, don't be disillusioned, this is definitely a no frills kind of place and borderline greasy spoon...ok, it is not borderline, it is (lol)...but they put all their effort into fresh, authentic, old school diner-style burgers! I had a classic cheeseburger with the traditional toppings (lettuce, tomato, pickle, grilled onions, ketchup and mustard) and my hubby threw a fried egg and mayo on his. We devoured them!! The fries were cooked to crisp perfection - just the way tasty crinkle fries should be ;) Washed them down with old fashioned brewed Lipton Sweet Tea and I was set (you couldn't tell me I wasn't at someone's home chill out! We passed on the grilled honey buns with ice cream and pies because we were full, but maybe next time!

Traveled to Clarksville and needed some lunch. We all decided a burger sounded good so we opted for Johnny's. I was here years ago and was interested to see how the quality compared to my last trip. The place was hoppin which is usually a good sign and that proved to be the case here. The burgers were made of ground chuck and had a good flavor. They do serve crinkle-cut fries which are not my favorite but I didn't decrease my rating because of the fries. Don't expect a fancy atmosphere but you can expect a good burger.
